Why did you start blogging? For some it was to create a platform for their writing in preparation for a career as an Author. Others may have approached it as a way to share their creativity or even a cause they have embraced. And yet there is another category, therapy.
There are people who do not have an outlet in their lives to free their minds and souls of what ails them or inspires them. If they try, the people around them look at them strangely or even interfere. However, if they blog, they are looked upon as artists and inspirations. They are accomplishing something!
I’m not really certain as to why I began to blog, perhaps a platform, not a hobby, but most definitely therapy. I have so many thoughts and ideas that I need to get them out of my head and somewhere else.
I wonder if it’s validation I am seeking? But then I am also a person that likes to support and encourage others to push forward. I may see doubt in a specific word but in the body of the work I see hope and potential and I like to share that vision.
You may receive a comment from me every now and then. I only comment if I really feel moved to do so. It may be by the piece posted, or something that just inspires me that this person needs to be talked to, or maybe a personal link that I feel.
Whatever reason you post, it is a therapy of sorts and it does allow for healing in many ways. Just make sure to keep relying on the output of your thoughts and ideas instead of the input of the comments of others to help you know that you are great at what you do. Yes, professionals help you, but I am speaking of those of us who may not be complimentary for other reasons.
Every piece I see in blogs has something to it that I learn from even if it is not my cup of tea so to speak. It might be the most awful piece of garbage ever, but I learned how not to do something. Being honest there. I may not click like on the ones I really do like at times as I have a problem with remembering to do certain tasks at times, but I learned from it. So keep posting, keep therapying, I know I made up a word, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? I’ll keep reading, liking, when I remember, commenting and learning. And thank you for helping with my therapy by sharing your own.

Blogging is a great way of letting out those thoughts we wouldn’t normally share, and I find that the support from other bloggers is amazing! Definitely glad I started blogging 😀
Great post!

For myself I originally started blogging in order to have somewhere public to put my portfolio but it has changed quite dramatically since. Therapy has definitely been a driving force as much as I may not like to admit it but also trying to provoke thoughts and emotions in others as well. I try to cut out most of the fluff and get straight to the point.
Excellent post! Keep it coming!

That may not be what we all start out to do, but I think it’s where we all end up. 🙂 You just got a jump start on the rest of us. 😛

Mostly therapy for me. Feels so good to let out all the stuff I have to keep in to blend in with the “norms”.

I actually started Out of the Well because I was typing up some old journal entries and thought I’d blog the key things from them. But the blog turned into a place to simply write my thoughts. Therapy comes into it, but most of the therapy happens when I write in my journal. So, I guess I blog for fun!

Ahhhh, so you write for therapy and blog for fun. 🙂 Another possibility…hmmm.

That sounds about right. Although, I also started the blog as a way of doing my daily writing practice – discipline. Fun discipline.

I started blogging because it’s sort of like writing my diary/journal(except I omit certain names). It’s both a hobby and a therapy. Also I want to touch a few hearts in this life… maybe. 🙂

Reading your offerings and what those who Follow you say, I believe you have achieved that last part many times over. 🙂

You raise a good point, well, several. There was a period of time when I basically shut down all social contract except through my blog, and was dependent on the rare threadbare comments of fellow bloggers for my self-esteem… Which was a miserable era of my life… I used to use blogging (originally) as a form of communication with friends and family, but now it’s more of a chronicle for myself to remember who I was at different points in the past, and as a mind castle/memory theater for ideas I’d like to hold on to or to revisit later. Thank you for your insights, hope you don’t mind that I linked to your post from mine for remembering… 🙂

I am of the “aspiring writer” group. Blogging is a good way for me to practice writing consistently and hone my skills, while gathering some feedback along the way. I will admit, it is highly motivating to have my work enjoyed by complete strangers.

I guess I started as an “I bet I can do that” sort of thing which quickly became more like therapy. Then, I realized that there is a lot of opportunity in blogging and online, in general.

I started blogging to meet other writers and now really to build a platform. My writing started randomly when I had three months off after I graduated from University

I always think of blogging as kind of a warm-up for the real writing. It loosens me. It is a little like shadow boxing. Of course, there is also that whole procrastination angle. In a way blogging KEEPS me from my writing.
I was probably going somewhere with this but I think I’ll put it off for another day or two. No sense rushing into a hasty decision. After all, entire governments have been founded upon the principal of farting around and thinking about doing something but never really getting around to doing it because we were way too busy just putting things off.
Might even be a blog entry there.
Oh heck, I’ll get back to you on that. We’ll do lunch.

Writing was definitely a cathartic experience for me and that is why I began writing. I started young and it followed me. I can honestly say, if it were not for a pen and pad growing up, I could see my life taking an entirely different turn.

I started blogging to share information on living a healthy lifestyle. Then it turned into another blog to spread the word on teen pregnancy, being a teen parent myself. I’ve more so dedicated my time to YDHS, my teen pregnancy blog, because I want it to become an organization someday. I still enjoy working on HSM but not the level of YDHS. I just want to get the word out there to make others knowledgeable.

The blogging community is great. And the writing community. Writing is an experiment into ourselves. We all know that we reach inside and pull out things we never even imagined. It’s healthy to do so and examine. Some may look at my writing and some things I reveal and think I may judge or be a certain way, but the truth is, I don’t judge anyone because I have no right to. I learn from everyone. It takes opposites sometimes to make the self stronger to examine those cracks you didn’t know you had. Not that you and I are opposites, I’m not saying that, just saying in general. But it’s surprising who gravitates toward one another.
Much Love and Respect

Share, share, share your lovely thoughts. It was a therapy too for me (while I was struggling with the desire to get well) but my blog has evolved into a hodgepodge of words that I share to the world.

I think that learning and bringing new information into your life is therapeutic. As for blogging, it’s one way to learn and open up one’s vistas.

Is is definitely a way to discover things that might change your life. There are things about ‘modern society’ that one might look to as bad, but the sharing of so much of the world is something as a former history teacher I greatly enjoy.

Ronan, I just discovered your blog via Chris TSRA. I see that you’ve posted for #1000Speak for Compassion, as have I. The reason I started my blog, however, was to become familiar with the self-publishing industry and its authors. The first Website I designed was for a local author, just to try learning WordPress and more about social media. I’ve met some great people through WordPress, and I have to say that you’re now one of them! I’m often AWOL myself for periods of time due to illness, so I’m sorry to hear about your recent health problems. Nonetheless, I’ll try to “visit” from time to time to see what you’re up to.
