I had intended to enter the Photo Challenge hosted by Daffy and Melissa for Stitch this week, and I am going to use what I planned to. The only thing is, there is an addition and a reason my own Challenge won’t have a detailed review. A bit difficult when you have to keep an ice pack on and your eyesight is a bit blurry. Click the blue words up there for other entries.
Below is the offender.
My son has baseball tryouts next Saturday, and I felt good because of my book being available for pre-order. So I thought I would go outside in the nice fresh air with said son and throw, or actually catch the ball, since he needed to practice throwing. I would underhand toss it high in the air for him to practice. That was easy for me to do. I actually did a good job at catching, until … well …
Below is the Offended.
This is the eye about two hours later. I am not showing you the whole area. I thought the color alone of that nice, first black eye in my life, along with that green tinge would be nice to see.
Apparently the ball tipped off my glove and hit a fence behind me, then hit me square in the eye, or round in the eye. But there it is. I yelled in pain once, and said ‘Oh, Gosh!” according to my son. Pretty proud of myself. Goes to show not using profanity or any bad language since the day I found out he was to be born paid off.

Ouch! If you have some apple cider vinegar, you can put it on a cloth and lay that on your “offended” skin…. feel better soon

It’s sometimes difficult for parents, let alone authors, to keep both eyes on the ball.

Ouch Ronovan. That story sure beats the walked in to the cupboard door one and is a lot more complicated. Also that is a wonderful pledge against profanity.

Sorry to hear of your injury. I can sympathise. My son almost killed his cricket coach while playing for the under 10’s when he made an impossible throw from the outfield straight into the coach’s temple. He went down like a ton of bricks. I can still see the poor chap dropping to the ground. Hope your vision returns to 20 20 soon.

Similar incident happened to me only it was my mouth that took the brunt of it. Nice to hear about your son, though not in the most pleasant context…for some reason he popped in my head recently thinking it had been a while since his mention. A very memorable entrance you have made to the photo challenge!! And way to go continuing to set a good example when reacting under stress. Feel better soon. 🙂

I’m glad your eye wasn’t too injured. Years ago a friend of mine did the same thing and was blinded for several months! At least your injury leisure-related!

That has got to hurt! Hope it’s a lot better now. Maybe you need to buy one of those facemasks some of the baseball players wear? Do they wear them, or am I thinking of the ones cricket players wear? Who knows, but get well soon.

The catchers wear them. There was concern about a concussion, as I may be prone to them now since my accident. But it was a one in a million chance accident. It hit my glove, then hit the fence behind me, the top pipe part, and then hit my eye. Fortunately, I didn’t have my sunglasses on, which I always do outside. Otherwise, there would have been glass/plastic involved as well.

It doesn’t bear thinking about with regards the sunglasses. I got hit on the head with a cricket ball once and it put me off the game for good. I was knocked out for only a few seconds and when I came around I thought I’d made it to heaven because I saw an angel-shaped cloud in the sky.
