Please come by on Wednesday for the new Décima Poetry Challenge. I sometimes have the prompt related to the Haiku words. It’s kind of fun to have the two work together in your own poetry.

The Guidelines:

  1. Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like.
    • The link above has links on how to write Haibun and Tanka. You can also do the 3/5/3 form if you like instead of the 5/7/5 that I usually use. Write, share, and have fun. For syllable help, visit HowManySyllables.com. (You would be surprised at how many syllables some words actually have.)
    • Words have different definitions and you use the definitions that work for you Haiku. You can also use SYNONYMS. Go to Thesaurus.com for synonym help.
  2. Copy the link of your finished haiku URL and paste in a comment below so we can all go and visit your Haiku.
    • You can do a pingback. What’s a pingback? Place the URL from the address bar up top from this post as a link within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenge, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). I honestly gain nothing with more people visiting the post. I don’t have ads running that generates revenue by your visit or by clicks on whatever WordPress has put up.

  3. If you like, copy the image in this post and place it within their post, just to show the Haiku is part of this challenge.
    • I am not saying you need or even should, but if you would like to do so then go ahead.
  4. The Challenge currently BEGINS at 8 AM EST (New York City time) on Mondays. And a DEADLINE is Noon EST (New York City time) on the Sunday following the Challenge Post release.

          • I guess we all have those days… It’s not like I’m boasting about my gift, but most days I think I’m as good as the writers I admire here on the blogs 🙂

                  • Tough question–as a Christian and Bible person, I want to believe God has a good destiny (Plan and Purpose), based on the verse in Jeremiah. But surely we, His kids, have to participate and cooperate…so I’m not confident to give a firm answer.

                    • Exactly. God does have a plan. But as you say, we must be active, not waiting children to ve fed by our Father.

                      He has answers when we pray, but if we don’t pay attention and realize He puts the opportunities to bring that answer into existence, then that’s on us. And if we don’t have a relationship that is strong and daily, then we won’t recognize His voice in what some call the everyday happenings around us.

                    • Love what you’ve said, Brother Ron–I treasure the strong, intimate, daily relationship I have with the Lord. Without Him, I’d be sunk! Today’s a good example: I got up with my usual state of “dread”, not wanting to go to a Dr’s appt scheduled 7/6… Each day I read a daily devotional first, then from my One Year Bible, which gives passages from Old and New Testaments, plus a Psalm and Proverb each day. So the devotional was His very specific word to me–about how He delivers manna for each day only, not for the week/month/year; and that we don’t need to be fretting about Tomorrow–only trust Him to have His plentiful grace ready for whatever’s up ahead. So that smoothed out my wrinkles somewhat 🙂 Recognizing His voice is key–and unless we Practice the Presence of God daily, our hearing is impaired and we’ll miss something good 🙂 PS: I’m really enjoying our Comment Box chats, Ron. I’ve followed you since 2011, from different blogs–and I guess the pandemic has freed up time for people to comment more 🙂

                    • For me, I decided to get more active again. I don’t work as I am disabled. I was burnt out on blogging, writing, life. I forced myself to jump back in the blog, and it was like riding a horse. Plus I like to reply and comment as it is appropriae. I just have to know when to rein myself in, as I can spend hours every day doing this rather than working on books. 🙂
                      As to living in today, Jesus said that no one know the time of his coming. So I don’t worry about tomorrow. It will come or not. Or I will be or not. Either way I know I am good to GO to a better place and have no fears. One of my life verses is
                      Psalm 46:10
                      He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
                      I will be exalted among the nations,
                      I will be exalted in the earth.”

                      That Be still, and know that I am God is the key to how I have lived. He has the small things and the big ones, but we have to be active. I was praying over this during a youth group meeting. We had broken up into groups of three and we prayed for what each person in the group needed in their life. Mine was peace, for my mind to become less cluttered and be safe. A week later I took the youth group to a Steven Curtis Chapman concert and he told a story about his song and the story behind it. I took this as a sign and recognizing God’s voice talking to me through the actions, stories, words, and songs of others. It’s a praise song so it’s repetitive.
