Nice try . . . but even though I may be stupid, I do check.

Keep an eye out for messages  in your comments saying things like “I follow you and noticed you liked my post (so and so) how about following my blog in return.” Or a variation of that. Good way to get followers but sorry, I do go look. I didn’t ‘like’ the post, never heard of the blog, and sad to say might have followed it if approached differently.

I just wanted to put that out there for y’all. Yeah, I follow a LOT of blogs. I return follow if I like the blog and/or like the About page even if the topic of the blog isn’t my thing. I like to support. But don’t lie and cheat to try and get a follow out of me. I’m easy, real easy. I would have enjoyed the blog this particular post mentions and had someone in mind to recommend it to. But sad to say, two follows not happening, which the person probably doesn’t care about.

  1. I get this a lot, but it never really crossed my mind to go back and check if they are genuine. In Amanda’s world I like to assume people are genuine, but I guess I need to drag myself into the real world and accept the are some fraudstars out there! And all for a follower?! What’s wrong with these people! Geez!

Oh, Btw… You aren’t stupid! You are actually rather smart 🙂

    • I don’t follow someone with the expectations of a guaranteed follow back. Especially if I didn’t ‘like’ something on their blog. Sometimes I just like the site or trust a person that follows them. I’m not sure if I’ve ever been mad about someone not following back though.

  2. I share the rage. I particularly enjoy comments along the lines of, “I can see you write a lot. You’d get so much more traffic if you followed the guide at X.com”

    People are absolutely shameless.

  3. I encounter this phenomenon on Twitter a lot. I never follow someone back just because they’ve followed me. I definitely poke around on their page first to see if we are anywhere on the same wavelength. Social media will always play into the popularity vein of things, the parts of us that want to be accepted by others. We have to stick to our standards and wits. From there, the people that we are meant to connect with, we will. Also, I believe in quality over quantity, because really, who has time to keep up with even 500 people that s/he has never met?

  4. I understand that some people have that expectation. I try to periodically check who is following me and take a look at their work to see if it’s something I like. Having said that, I’m really behind doing that lately!!!
