The Poet When Asked
When asked when he most likely penned
the poem that ensnared the sun,
not unlike a Babe Ruth home run,
he said, that ode’s my sweetest friend.
It’s my heart, my mind, a rich blend
of verse, of dreams, that still of night
when the eye sees beyond the light,
that place outside this earthly plane,
past love, past death, past grief and pain,
a journey where the muse takes flight,
heaven bound to an untold height.
