The end of a road.

I’ve been doing the Haiku Challenge for a long time. If I were to go until #520 it would be exactly 10 years. There has never been a missed week of a challenge. That’s through hurricanes, power outages, stays in the hospital, illnesses, and just not feeling like doing it. #500 is about to come out and that will be the last one.

The challenge began during a time in my life where poetry  was a big part of my healing after the accident that pretty much changed my life. Trying to come up with the prompts each week may sound easy but when you try not to repeat too much, wow, it’s just something else.

It also help lead to my not writing poetry. With the end of the challenge I’m hoping I will want to begin writing again.

To those who’ve stayed with me all these years, I thank you for that loyalty… or insanity… or OCD nature. There will be other things I’ll be sharing, so it’s not like the end of the blog and only the Ovi Challenge will be the lone post each week. It’s just I’m not a super blogger like I was back in the beginning. That’s not why I blog.

Much Respect,

Ronovan

  1. Ronovan, your prompts were a joy when I had the Mondays off to write. You helped spark a love for haikus. Life changes, more writing was done versus blogging but, I kept writing haikus. Maybe not prompted by you or posted here on my blog, but I kept writing. And that is your contribution to my writing journey. Thank you for everything you have done and hope to see you around the Reader. Cheers!

  2. Ronovan, your decision is totally understandable. You have done good work and deserve to work more for yourself at your leisure. While a very infrequent participant, I have enjoyed and learned from your prompts since I started writing on-line. I hope to see you around the blogosphere and hope you enjoy being on the other end of the quill. Thank you.

  3. Oops…edited I will miss your Monday morning prompts, Ronovan but appreciate the need to step back…I have an essay coming out in the near future on the Federation of BC Writers website/blog…and this is an excerpt: Haiku is a marvellous art form: brief, reflective, orderly. Currently, I visit two distinct haiku sites, Pure Haiku, which satisfies my occasional haiku competitive inclinations, and Ronovan Writes, https://ronovanwrites.com/, my Monday morning haiku (and shi rensa) go-to site. Ronovan fashioned shi rensa, a haiku hybrid, wherein the third line becomes the first line of a connected haiku and so on, for as long as you care to create. Ronovan’s blog is eclectic, and I also use his Wednesday prompts where he explores various other poetic styles.

  4. I have to say, I learned to craft so much poetry because of your weekly haiku challenge and I am forever grateful for that. May you be happy in your life, whatever you do. As I enjoy the OVI challenge, I am sure I shall continue to enjoy your blog!

  5. Thank you for the prompts, and I hope you’re able to get back to writing your own poetry. So many of the blog hops I participated in (even if not regularly) ended recently. I can understand. Actually, it just occurred to me, I quit hosting one on someone else’s site! It becomes a chore.
