Why are you still Blogging?

Have you figured out why your blog is important to the universe and you need to keep going with it?

Oh be honest, you really have no idea. None of us do until an aha moment happens. No I do not intend to break into song  “Take On Me” and think of the greatest music video ever.

Okay so perhaps I did that last part. Now back to why I am here. Actually literally why I am here.

I’ve noticed in recent times my viewership has started dying away.

Does this worry me? I have to actually sit myself down and step back to think that through. That in itself should tell you if I am worried. Ultimately the answer is no. You see I think I know why it’s happened and it’s a rather sad reason. But I’m okay with that.

But I still serve a purpose. You know as long as you help or inspire one person, your blog is worth it. To be honest if all I had going here was my various Haiku challenges each week and my Sunday Thoughts I suppose I would feel like I was doing something in the world, something more than I ever thought I would do.

That’s what you have to figure out. Is there someone that has commented on your blog that you helped them in some way? If you helped one, don’t you think you’ve helped others? Those others who haven’t spoken?

You might be saying that you’ve never had anyone say that. There is something I’ve discovered while blogging, or maybe two, okay maybe three somethings.

  1. I get things out of me that I need to get out and that is therapeutic. I am mentally and emotionally healthier than I was the day I started blogging.
  2. I have found my writers voice while blogging. I am not afraid to write anything under the sun and I know I can write it. Sure, I may not be an award winning author . . .  yet, but I can write an article with the best of them when I want to.
  3. I’ve made friends here that I wouldn’t have otherwise.

I imagine many of you can agree with all three of those, if not then I know you can say yes to at least one of them. So when you feel like you can’t blog or it’s not doing any good and then you remember that you wanted to blog to change things in the world, you have. You just have to realize what part of the world you’ve changed, even it is you that has changed.

As readers of this here thing called a blog, why do YOU think my views are dying off? I do want to hear suggestions.

And believe me, I have a list of reasons, some are even very harsh, and I came up with them all. I just want to see if I am thinking right. So share, please do.

Does this mean I will change anything I am doing? Who knows. My main goal is to be happy.

Much Respect

  1. I guess I can’t say why your views are dying off since I just found you. But I can say that I find your blog to be informative and entertaining. Your haiku challenge was the first time (outside of high school) where I wrote a haiku. So thanks for inspiring me:)

  2. Being Happy and having Fun are the two most important parts of blogging, so do what gives you both Ron – If you are getting neither – then stop.
Regards changing the world – I wouldn’t presume, but if what I blog helps someone, then it’s been worth it.

    • 🙂 I did a test of something recently on my blog to see if I was right about some thoughts and I was. I’ve become a bit more serious in my writing and my purpose. I don’t blog constantly with 3 or more posts a day and I write things that mean something to me as opposed to random things that come to mind, although they meant something I don’t feel they were of the quality I wanted. But I see things and know my blog. I just want to see if other people that have been reading for a while will actually say something and admit what they see as the thing. But no worries, I still have plenty of views each day. Just I don’t have the astronomical ones I was getting at one point. But a Blog expert person would still say I am doing well. Not Ape well, but well.

    • I fully agree. Too many bloggers have high expectations from the very start and end up abandoning ship too soon. It has happened to me with blogs in the past. Just relax and write while having fun.

  3. I can only echo what other people have said here. I blog because I enjoy it (and on two of my blogs, also because of causes I support). Your blog is interesting and helpful and I look forward to reading your posts.

  4. Viewing figures. Mine have always been up and down like a yo-yo, Ronovan. Some posts I think are going to get loads of ‘likes’ and comments, just seem to take a nosedive, whereas others I’ve put out there quickly, seem to get ‘likes’ and comments for days and days on end.

I always considered it a ‘funny old world’ we live in and blogging has certainly confirmed that saying what with followers who never ever visit, ‘likes’ that come in within seconds of a 1,000 word post being published and comments which just contain an :0 – what are they trying to tell me? But I agree with the ‘reading ape man’, so long as I am enjoying blogging and getting lots of fun out it, then I’ll continue with it. The moment it becomes a monster and starts causing me stress, I’ll be packing my blogging suitcase and leaving on the first train.

  5. There are a lot of bloggers that are sort of ‘super’ bloggers, and follow loads of people and have thousands of followers. I don’t feel so compelled to comment on those blogs as I don’t feel they really know ‘you’. Also, blogs that re-blog ALL the time fill up my reader with a lot of stuff I already have, so I confess to unfollowing one or two of them (sorry, sorry) that’s not you, I do read a lot of your blog osts 🙂 But honestly, sometimes maybe you can get too big imo.

  6. Because blogging are one of the few things on the internet with full “freedom”. Most people moved on to the micro-blogging Twitter or just sharing with a group of friends through Facebook.

  7. I think it’s swings and roundabouts. Sometimes you’re up, sometimes not… the way it goes. If you feel you have become more serious or deep in your writing, the wrong readers might peter off but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t carry on as you are doing. They were just flaky followers :-)Some people click Like without reading (which I find inane), some bloggers don’t like blocks of text…yet, then again, my two most successful posts that readers continue to like are long and serious. Whatdyaknow! It’s swings and roundabouts… Carry on, good man!

  8. You have made a difference to me. In Blogging 101 one of our assignments t was to find a challenge and participate. I found you and your weekly Haiku Challenge. For that alone I am grateful. I also found a great blog and I love to read your posts ❤ Thank you
I do believe that you can never be all things to all people so keep on being yourself and writing what touches you. In the end you may not have the most followers but surely you will have dedicated followers that enjoy your writing.

  9. Looking at all these comments, doesn’t look like you have a reader problem to ME. Personally, my views go up when I make friends with other bloggers on their blogs. But it’s slow going. Just celebrated today though, reaching 200 followers!! Yippie!!

  10. You have a wonderful blog. Keep doing what you do so well. I think most blogs have their ups and downs. Some of my posts get more visitors than others. Check your blog stats and try to determine what it is about each posting that attracted more views, or less. Good luck my friend.

  11. Yes, blogging can be therapeutic 🙂 What I hadn’t thought of though until you mentioned it, is that the part of the world you may be changing is yourself… intriguing, wonderful thought that… profound. Nice 🙂
