Ovi Poetry Challenge 31: RESCUE is your inspiration.

Rescue can bring many meanings to mind depending on what your life is like. Soon as I hear the word it’s about animals. Cats get dropped at the church next door and they seem to make their way to the house. Over the past year we’ve caught 3 momma cats and had them spayed. The three litters have been also. Which takes a lot of weeks and months of crates and vet visits for cats that aren’t ours. Fortunately we have a great vet who says whenever we catch one, bring them in and she’ll help with the procedures and finding homes.

OVI POETRY

Ovi is a syllabic/metre poetry form. In this case, Ovi is from India, originating in the Marathi language. The Ovi  has been in use in written form since the 13th Century, but the women’s ovee/ovi predates the literary form by at least the 12th Century.

The Ovi are in general, lyrical folk songs expressing love, social irony, and heroic events. They are written in the following scheme.

4 line stanzas, as few as one stanza and up to as many as you like.

8 syllables or less per line

Rhyming is AAAb. The second stanza would be CCCd. The third, EEEf. And so on. Meaning nothing in one stanza must rhyme with anything in the previous stanza. The fourth line does not rhyme.

Example:

Roly Poly by Judi Van Gorder

The big toothed tot with golden hair
picked up a bug on Sister’s dare,
it rolled into a ball right there
and won her springtime heart.

Notice the rhyming pattern is AAAb or
A
A
A
b

My Attempt

Blue flowers continue to grow,
with the shadow’s making them glow,
giving life to darkness and woe,
dying each year to yet return.

  1. Times Rescue

The drifts are high, a sea of snow,
awash am I, but this I know,
that deep within this wintry glow,
‘tis the secret of our release.

Thoughts waver as the wars go on,
pointless deaths, so many lives gone
before their time, each bloody dawn
is followed by a bloody dusk.

Each of us seek a world of peace,
a soulful plea for wars to cease,
to rescue all, a full release
    from man made obliteration.

  2. Countless exploited people
    Daily life ever a battle
    Twenty-four hours a struggle.
    Dreaming of being rescued.

But how are they to be freed?
    People with wealth and greed
    Force them to always bleed
    Who can fight against power?

    Thank you Ronovan 🙂
