The Unknown by @bwseekingbl

First in this week with a very good reminder in many ways and a great image chosen. Hard to believe how fast some have become at putting all of these together.

Qia works hard. She enjoys most of her work and she enjoys time off too. She enjoys many activities.

She wakes one day and she is in a space. It is not inside: no ceiling. It is not outside: no clouds or sky or sun or moon.

She is standing in a box. There are more boxes for as far as she can see. They are made of wood. Some are plain and some are ornate. Some are inlaid or carved. Some have rare wood.

She steps from box to box. They are up to her thighs. She is careful. Some are beautiful.

A male voice says “You need to pick a box.”

Some are square, a triangle, octagonal. All shapes.

“You need to pick a box.”

“I am looking.” says Qia. She doesn’t want to pick one. She wants to look at them and examine them. She could spend…

Writing Tip: Using Youtube.

You ever wanted to make a song or video on youtube loop or repeat and play over and over? Maybe you found a full length album or a movie or something?

I received my email notice of Jen’s Pen Den’s Music Monday about Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood song. I didn’t have a chance to visit the post at the time but I was on youtube for something and Taylor Swift’s name came up and that made me think of the email so I looked up the song. I’ve read the post now. 🙂 (If you want to see the video, click the blue link above and visit Jen’s blog post. Saw no reason to mention her post and then put the video here. Kind of would seem like a jerk thing, you know?)

Awesome song and even better video. Even if you are like a total Swiftie Hater you will love the video to this and the song itself has an attitude. I read the story behind it on wikipedia and oh yeah. Awesome. The video also has a lot of stars in it like Selena Gomez, Zendeya, and Cindy Crawford. No, not a modeling thing, a serious action movie.

I’ve been working on a short story and needed a song to capture a certain feel, well this one was it. But having to stop and make the song start over again each time sort of breaks the train of thought, the flow of my writing. Thus, the search for how to make the song loop.

Here is the YouTube Tip for Tuesday.

When you look at the URL for the song, let’s make up something like

http://www.youtube.com/taytayswiftkickbuttie (which is not a real link so don’t click it.)

To make that loop you would simply type the word repeat after youtube.

That means it would now look like

http://www.youtuberepeat.com/taytayswiftkickbuttie

That will take you to listenonrepeat.com. The song/video will then play on loop until you make it stop.

Simple, easy, and now you can write and keep grooving or jazzercise to your favorite 80s song over and over again.

That’s it for the day.

Much Respect

Practice Session: Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge #46

Had to Reblog this one. You’ll see why when you read all FOUR of author Melissa’s Haiku.

Passing Spring

First in this week is T..J. Paris. Great image with this one, as usual.

The springtime away

The cold words of a lover can change Springtime to Autumn

Haiku: pitch and time

Episode 323: Love For Hire. by @Edwinasepisodes For My Haiku Challenge.

First in, EDWINA! Um, perhaps I should rephrase that. I am not sure if the Haiku is humorous or she’s heard this pick up line a few times too often. I have a feeling there are a lot of black eyes where she lives. Oh, the Haiku that will be coming from these prompt words this week. What have I done?

Judy E Martin's avatarEdwina's Episodes

Its time for Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenge again and the words to incorporate this time are ‘charge’ and ‘lovers’. I like the sound of these!

Here is my attempt.

Love For Hire

“How much do you charge,

I’m in need of a lover?

Please say you are cheap! ”

Westminster

First one in this week is TJ Paris. A bit of a site seeing view of Westminster as a bonus. A Haiku and a little more too.

tjparis's avatarLife is too short to drink bad wine

Such food for thought in Westminster Abbey. The source of so much faith for over a thousand years. Such food for thought in Westminster Abbey. The source of so much faith for over a thousand years. This is how I saw it for the first time on a lovely summer’s day in London.

Searching for answers

I traced the spring to its source

And thought differently

I have only visited Westminster once and found it completely different to what I had imagined. Having only seen it full “Coronation mode” on television I did not realise that there are the most astonishing assortment of side chambers and chapels with relics from throughout its thousand year history. I would have gladly spent more time there but our tour guide was determined to show us the Houses of Parliament that day so whisked us through this labyrinthine edifice and I cannot disentangle my memories of the various wonders.

I do recall some particularly charming medieval floor tiles and walking over a number…

#BeWoW Day – Ronovan Writes Weekly #BeWoW Challenge

A new member of the #BeWoW Day family. I liked this one a lot. I like all of the ones I read but I thought I would share this one today.

EC’s blog is called thepbsblog or Pearls Before Swine. I believe today with the story written, the letter, I will rename it Perfectly Beautiful Story blog.
Enjoy.
I had no idea there was a book to the blog.

So today I am a newbie participant in Ronovan Writes #Bewow Prompt; a weekly twitter Blogshare of positive posts. BeWoW is an acronym for “Be Wonderful on Wednesday”. Participants are supposed to compose a post comprising positivity, encouragement, motivation, or just something positive. This week, Ronovan suggested a topic where we write to our younger self: “Advice you would give to your younger self.” Of course, as he states, we don’t have to use this topic, but it is a prompt to help us to get going. I thought this was a wonderful post idea. What’s special about it for me is that last year I did a post very similar to this as suggested by The Daily Post, about when 27 year old me met 17 year old me for coffee. I’ll be 28 this year and this topic seems to have come up…

I am really getting into writing these Haikus (if that is the correct plural). For Ronovan’s Challenge this week we have been given the words ‘time’ and ‘new.’

Smoke Rings

Greg won the Guess Who and gave me a choice of two posts to reblog here. I liked this chain Haiku he did about he and his pipe. It all worked well together.

Greg's avatarPotholes in the Road of Life

A few days ago Carpe Diem Haiku Kai did an exercise on, what else, haiku: specifically form. The challenge was to stretch ourselves by doing three haiku in slightly different ways: one 3-5-3 stanza, one traditional 5-7-5, and a free form stanza. It took me a little longer than usual to get this done; I had an idea but it took several tries to get something I was pleased with. Consequently I missed the deadline but have a chained haiku that I really like.

Smoke wafts from
A burning ember
In my pipe

An animated
Enchanting dance of smoke rings
Drifting by my eyes

Lulling me into
A tranquil state of mind
Induced by rolling smoke rings

As you can see, I stayed with the guidelines using stanzas of 3-5-3, 5-7-5, and 5-6-7 for the free form ending, while, in my mind at least, chaining them into one poem. Even…

This is my first #BeWoW blog post.  This stands for Be Wonderful on Wednesday.  It was created by the one and only Ronovan of RonovanWrites.  I’m convinced he somehow has a 36 hour day compared to the rest of us with a measly 24 hours.  There are so many different aspects of his blog he’s got to either be parked at the computer all day or (if possible) part of the computer itself.

Moving right along…

I’ve been wanting to participate in #BeWoW since it began but I find that Wednesday, being mid week and all, is one of my busy work days.  So I’m either too busy with work or I can’t find that just right inspiration to post about.  Luckily, I just watched a video that fits the #BeWoW bill.  A wonderful message told via a beautiful video.

It’s message: “A simple act of caring creates an endless…

Heart’s Desire

Alyssa is first this week. Go check her out. Yes, I know it’s late for me, but here I am.

BWSBL's avatarBattered Wife Seeking Better Life

Another Monday, another Ronovan Writes Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge.  It’s hard to believe we’re up to week #39.  I started this Haiku Challenge at week #8.  Hook, line and sinker…I’ve been in every week since.  This week’s words to use are Vie & Reach.

Usually, my haiku have a little twist of the knife 🙂 but it’s a bright and sunny morning and finally, spring has sprung.  I guess that has me feeling a little lighthearted.

Heart’s Desire
A far reach for love,
To vie for one’s attention,
Countless ways to end.

Success will follow happiness. #BeWoW

be-wow-bloggerBeing positive is a difficult thing to do at times. Even with a lot of practice, you still have to practice some more. A week or so ago I was in the hospital and I will be honest, blogging wasn’t on my mind. Now, I’ve added a blog.

Writing is my life. I can’t sit around feeling sorry for myself even when dealing with Fibromyalgia or a white cell count double the normal. While in the hospital I was thinking of how to do a new beginning to my novel. I wasn’t happy the previous 3 or 4 versions.

Sitting and dwelling in misery only increases the misery. Now I have been back a week and am busier than before. Three websites, four if you count one I don’t post on unless I am moved to do so. It’s that kind of site. I don’t force it. I am also posting daily, Monday-Friday, writing tips on my Facebook page.

Why? I have lots of reasons.

  • The more I write the better I get.
  • Leaving a paper trail of memories.
  • Supporting authors.
  • Making friends.
  • Supporting bloggers.
  • Inspiring people to try new writing styles.
  • Hosting a Challenge where people have met and become friends.
  • Writing to leave something for my son to be proud of some day.

I noticed as I finished I never mentioned wanting to be famous. Even as an author I don’t really want the fame associated with the success. I just want to be a success as a writer, an author.

I look at writing the way I look at blogging. Do your best, ignore statistics. Get the job done. Be happy doing it. Success will follow.

Breaking out of your comfort zone. Be fearless to find your writing voice.

Do you ever get in a rut with your writing and creativity? That’s what I’ve felt with my poetry of late. My long form has been pretty much the same old same old. Even when it’s lyric poetry it gets a little old to me.

Every now and then I like to experiment. Some of you may have noticed my experimenting the past few days. With this being National Poetry Month, I decided to change things up. Yes, I am doing the A to Z Blogging Challenge this month but I am also writing a poem each day. Some may not be as experimental in the rhyming scheme that I am currently working with, but you’ll see something each day.

I believe different styles of poetry can bring out different emotions and attitude. For creatives, as I call them, there is never just one creative aspect. We may focus on one but there are usually many facets. As one facet’s edges become worn and dull, turn your creativity and work on a different one. As you work that one, the other facet’s edges become sharper.

The more you write the more you discover what you can do and then use that new experience with what came before. Never be afraid to try something new. Even if it is for your eyes only, you will learn something from it. It’s like Haiku. I can’t tell you how many people tell me they never tried it before, were afraid of it, thought it was too hard, but now are addicted to it.

My writing tip today is to experiment. Get out of that comfort zone and find out something you never knew you could do before. That’s how I found my writer’s voice for a novel I am working on. I wrote and wrote and wrote, anything and everything and then one day, there it was.
