On Hearing the News

That Monday morn ache,
that unease of rushing time,
that shift, life to death.

On Hearing the News-A Shi Rensa for Bob

That Monday morn ache,
that unease of rushing time,
that shift, life to death.

That shift, life to death
another loss, an old friend,
In my heart, still young.

In my heart, still young,
those halcyon days of yore,
unaware of time.

Unaware of time,
every day a work of art,
buoyant and complete.

Dental Health Memories

There, by their bedside,
they sat, false teeth in a jar,
ready to bite me.

Dental Health and Other Memories- A reflective Shi Rensa

There, by their bedside,
they sat, false teeth in a jar,
ready to bite me.

Ready to bite me,
Though I never mentioned it,
It did cross my mind.

It did cross my mind,
My thoughtless juvenile mind,
A swamp of sorrow.

A swamp of sorrow,
Their hard lives, and mine, so soft-
I did love them so.

Try on Shi Rensa Haiku:

The anatomy of vulture words
Bring about a sense of frosty chill
No, not the picture still!

No, not the picture still!
But bring about a grill!
On these bloody hearts

On these bloody hearts
Which won’t spell a single bill
For crying over the rotten mill of friendship

For crying over the rotten mill of friendship
Which are now the satire
Written again in those vulture words

-Exintrovert

William Thomas Engleson:

Winter: 1

morning dew glistens
glints, glows, awaits frost’s blanket
to encase the earth.

Winter: 1 A Shi Rensa

morning dew glistens
glints, glows, awaits frost’s blanket
to encase the earth.

To encase the earth,
The deep chill of late winter
descends on our souls.

Descends on our souls,
weather vane of twisted time,
you soar on the sun.

You soar on the sun.
The splendour of the next day
takes us home again.

Frost

Winter mornings wake
to the sound of glinting frost,
a crackle of white.

A crackle of white,
Winter’s symphonic poem,
a season composed.

A season composed,
notes a frozen harmony
prefiguring Spring.

I was happy to see most of the poems moving to the lighter side of life, as that was part of why I chose the words I did. One could make them a closing to a year or any type of experience you’ve had as well as something just openly freeing.

Haikuzi-Shi Rensa

Monday morn haiku,
a simple bouquet of joy,
a jewelled release.

A jewelled release
on this grey-tinged rainy morn
in search of beauty.

In search of beauty,
yet ‘tis there, a wing of birds,
a bounce of blue sky.

A bounce of blue sky,
a whirlpool of warm weather-
January’s charm.

Haiku Challenge 339 Poets Collected.

Links to the 24 Poets from last week’s challenge of CHILD and Grow and their haiku. All links open in a new window when clicked on.

I’m not going to do the whole ‘poems to check out thing’ any longer. Each time I don’t, I have to explain it’s because they are all so good. Well, they usually are all good. Sometimes a few do jump out and I let those poets know it on their comments sometimes if I have the energy and the fingers don’t hurt. (Part of my chronic pain affects my hands, especially making my fingertips tender, and when I type it’s like I’m hammering them into a rock.)

This week people went in some GREAT directions. Seriously check them out. You’ll enjoy.

William Thomas Engleson:

I Was Just Thinking of That

The child that I am,
that I was, that time has gone,
yet still I grow young.

I Was Just Thinking of ThatShi Rensa

The child that I am,
that I was, that time has gone,
yet still I grow young.

Yet still I grow young,
playful, easily side-tracked,
lost in misplaced thoughts.

Lost in misplaced thoughts,
I search the inner reaches
Of my memory.

Of my memory,
snippets of time that warm me.
For the rest, farewell.

Haiku Challenge 336 Poets Collected.

Links to the 29 Poets with around 37 Poems from last week’s challenge of MAD and Sane and their haiku. All links open in a new window when clicked on.

Please visit the blogs you haven’t yet. Visiting and clicking that like, if we like the poem, is something of an encouragement. No, we don’t NEED likes, but they’re nice to have.

Here are Four of our Poets who’s offerings jumped out to me this week. I don’t like doing this very often, because I do like everyone’s poetry. It’s just some have a message or accomplished something with how they put their piece together I wanted others to check out. Just scroll down for their links.

E-College voting:
A slightly mad process…still
sane is as sane does.

Sane is as sane does,
We hop, skip, jump ‘cross the land,
tallying the votes.

Tallying the votes,
is a fractured procedure-
Fractured and fractious.

Fractured and fractious
though it may be, it will end
With a beginning.

Old Cats-Shi Rensa

Once in a long while,
our old cat stretches her paws,
curls up at my feet.

Curls up at my feet,
my toes strain, shift the blanket,
and then she pounces.

And then she pounces,
playful, frisky, like old times,
those lost pre-Covid days.

Those lost pre-Covid days,
When old men, old cats recalled
how simple life was.

Pandemic tide, we

Your tsunami dreams,
your virus soars, crests in rage,

thoughtless to a fault.

Thoughtless to a fault,
Covid-19’s deadly surge

Haiku Challenge 329 Poets Collected.

The words for this one, for me, ended up being a huge challenge because I wanted to do a Shi Rensa. I did a few versions. A few meaning a lot, but I just wasn’t satisfied. I guess when I called this thing a challenge 6 years ago and not just a prompt I meant it. I just didn’t think I meant it for myself.

5 People were able to participate in my first RWThe13 Writing Challenge, a Halloween Poetry or Prose Challenge using specific word counts. Click HERE for those links.

William Thomas Engleson:

The Last Season

I am but a weed,
chilled on the earth, awaiting
Winter’s snow dusting.

(And a Shi Rensa)

The Last Season

I am but a weed,
chilled on the earth, awaiting
Winters snow dusting.

Winter’s snow dusting,
Scattered o’er the crying earth,
A silver wasteland.

A silver wasteland,
A dream of frozen sorrows,
And no passage home.

And no passage home,
The deep of it, the journey
Will not see the end.

Haiku Challenge 327 Poets Collected.

Links to the 21 Poets with around 27 Poems, including 2 Tanka and 2 First Visiting Poets from last week’s challenge of DRIP & DROP and their haiku. All links open in a new window when clicked on.

For some who visit, you may wonder why some links below have titles and some have the full post address. Haiku traditionally do not have titles. But, if a poet does use one, which is their prerogative, then I shorten the link to just the title for a more visually appealing, less busy, and easier to read post.

Very good variety this week. Nature, politics, love, senusuality, scorn, and more. At least that’s how I interpreted them. Even a Shi Rensa and some Tankas.
