The Guidelines are simple.

  2. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help. I’ve also included the words at the top of the page.
  3. Copy and paste the URL link of your finished haiku post into a comment here on the challenge post. I then know you did one, and we can all go visit your site to see what you have done. Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #14 Entries: THE #LINKS

I wasn’t going to do MUST READs this week, I mean most are must reads already. Then I read one that I could not ignore or pass by. Timely and for a writer this one hits home. Make sure not to skip it. We had everything from humor to death, and drama to suspense. Two new members joining in, and good storytellers at that.

A Must Read designation does NOT mean an entry is necessarily better than the other entries. It means that entry clicked with me in some way in that moment I read it.

The order appearing is the order in which the entry was received.

GL below stands for the reading Grade Level. Harry Potter is a GL of around 5. Tolkien is around GL 6.5. Passive Sentence percentage is included as Active Sentences are considered the preferred form of writing by most editors and publishers. Active moves the story along. Passive is not always bad. Sometimes a story works that way, perhaps through the language of a person or the type of story. Even then, keep the percentage low.

The Writers with The Links

The Prompt for the Challenge was:

You’ve just been handed a message that makes you drop to the floor, trembling uncontrollably.

  • No more than a Word Count of 600. (SUGGESTED)
  • Using the above scenario, create a scene of what the note is about, and why it makes you react the way you do. (REQUIRED)
  • No external dialogue for this scene. (SUGGESTED)

RonovanWrites #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt #Challenge #85 Tight&Warm

  • Please use the tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge with your posts, if you can remember. That way if links/ping backs don’t work I can find you. I saw about 5 or 6 people used the tag this past week. Unfortunately, they were not the ones that missed linking back to us.
  • Check your links you are using in your posts. Some are not working. If you are like me and like to copy a post from the previous week and just change what’s needed, check the link you may be using that’s built in.

Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge Image 2016

The Guidelines are simple.

  1. Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above has links within it to articles about how to write Haibun, Tanka, and even a new form I created called Freku. You can also do the 3/5/3 form if you likeinstead of the 5/7/5 that I usually use. Write, share, and have fun. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com. (You would be surprised at how many syllables some words actually have.)
  2. The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  3. Use the Tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge. This will help me find you in case you forget to ping back or leave your URL in the comments.
  4. Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link in the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). I honestly gain nothing by more people visiting the post. I don’t have ads running I get paid for by your visit. Click HERE for a detailed article on Ping Backs.
  5. You may copy one of the badges/images appearing in this post below or above and place it on your site if you wish, most normally use it within their post. I am not saying you need to, but if you would like to do so then go ahead. It is simply my way of saying thank you for participating. I sometimes make custom images for the week, if time and health permits.
  6. The Challenge currently BEGINS at 8 AM EST (New York City time) on Mondays. And a DEADLINE is Noon EST (New York City time) on the Sunday following the Challenge Post release.
  7. Are you interested in having your Haiku entry included in our FREE eBook Project? Click HERE to find out more.

If an author does not have a comment, as do the entries, that means they did not have an entry this week, but I left their place here. Is it for the benefit of advertising their work? No, it is for the ease of my formatting their next entry in the challenge. It’s a bear to do those. (And maybe there is a little heart felt type thing I have for authors.)

NATURE

TJ Paris: Moon in the Pond | La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin. Great Haiku. Interesting photo to go with it. An odd photo in a way, not a bad way, more an interesting way. Very much an art piece. @Roccoco_a_GoGo

Pat B: Pudding River | A season and a time. An awesome title I  had to use from words in the Haiku. A real place.

Lizl : Star Treks, Anyone? | Quilted Poetry. That’s the title of the post, with the name of the Haiku, I think, being Enjoy an Extended Vacation. Very well done. Makes you smile.

Marie: Opals | The Syllabub Sea. I think someone has jewelry on the brain lately.

Clarence: The Beauty of Just Born | PrairieChat. Awww, so cute. I wish there had been a photo with this one. Anyone else enjoying the headers he’s been sharing?

Cathy: At Home on the Stage (or Take a Bow, my title) | Rambling in the Garden. Beautiful words and the photography is excellent.

Denis: 5 Milky Smooth Haiku | HaikuHound. His title this week. I have to say, I had a title in mind as I headed into the third Haiku then flush, it was gone. Great variety of photography this week.

VronLaCroix: Suckling Calf | Simply Snapshots. Sometimes you gotta wonder about calves. How many get the fool kicked out of them? Nice photography. By the way, I am the one that capitalizes her name that way. I may be wrong, but I like it.

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #13 Entries: THE #LINKS

A LOT of great stories this week. The ones I have MUST READ beside are the ones I clicked with instantly. There are maybe three others I am itching to add a MUST READ tag to, but with some it is a habit so I thought I would spread it around this week.

  • Word Count of 500. (SUGGESTED)
  • Take your favorite quote from a movie and use it as inspiration for your entry this week. If you want more direction, make it the last sentence in your piece. (REQUIRED)

NEW MEMBER!
Puzzle of the Stars
Inkbiotic
An inspired and well plotted piece. Linking the hobby/obsession to the later part is awesome. 625 words, 3.6 GL (but you feel like it is higher), 0% passive sentence structure.

Rick’s
Jane Dougherty (Jane Dougherty Writes)
Looking the title, then reading the story, I’m not certain if the name is where they are dining or the ‘afters’, but I think that may be the point. 690 words, 4.5 GL, and 1% passive sentence structure. @MJDougherty33

Just Friends (Part 3)
Ritu (But I Smile Anyway…)
Ritu has created a monster. Check out the comments on the story to see how she’s doing. 589 words, 3.7 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @PhantomGiggler

The Cave – Not So Safe After All
Teresa Smeigh (Writing is my Life)
Good pacing with this weeks edition to Teresa’s series. 532 words, 4.0 GL, and 5% passive sentence structure. @TeresaSmeigh

Ronald Rump-A Minor Roast
Must Read Bill Engleson (Writings)
Talk about some nice political satire … um … I think it was satire. Hmm, maybe it wasn’t all that much satire at all. 592 words, 4.2 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @billmelaterplea

The Devil’s Wife: Valentine’s Day on Earth
Geetha (Geetha Balvannanathan’s Blog)
A sweet story. Sometimes that’s a good enough description but it’s difficult to feel three little words can be enough sometimes. 581 words, 8.6 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @geethap2007

Hospital White
Must Read Clarence Holm (PrairieChat)
A powerful story of last moments, reunions, and new beginning? 614 words, 6.5 GL, and 2% passive sentence structure.

Called Home
Natalia Erehnah (Weaving Gold)
Okay, we have one of those you kind of wonder what’s happening. I mean that in a good way. 507 words, 5.5 GL, and 4% passive sentence structure.
@WeavingGold

The Sacrifice
Must Read Melissa Barker-Simpson (Author Blog)
Melissa is afraid she hasn’t done her quote justice. I’m not worried about the quote. The story is great. A nice range of emotion to capture the manic feeling in one of the characters. I thought the imbalance of the feelings was done nicely to give the reader the sense of imbalance as well. 633 words, 5.7 GL, and 1% passive sentence structure. @MBarkerSimpson

Nobody
Annette (Annette’s Place)
A good story to check out. A lot going on here in a short span of time, but someone it’s pulled off and doesn’t feel rushed. Very nice. 441 words, 5.1 GL, and 3% passive sentence structure.

The Interview
Kat Myrman (like mercury colliding…)
Kat speaks the truth for a lot of people over the past several years now. 717 words, 4.2 GL, and 5% passive sentence structure. @kat_myrman

Unattended
TJ Paris (La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin)
The scary thing I must confess today is … this story makes complete sense to me. 482 words, 11.7 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @Roccoco_a_GoGo

Ride or Die
Shida (876LoveR)
One wild ride later . . . 334 words, 3.9 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @Rebel_Shida

She was and is
Florence T (Meanings and Musings)
A story I think is probably true for too many of the good ones and opposite for the ones that the qualities don’t apply to. 392 words, 6.3 GL, and 4% passive sentence structure. @FTThum

Return of the Warrior
Must Read Michelle LuNato (Chasing Life and Finding Dreams)
The third part in a series, but a stand alone as well. Actually this is a good place to jump if you haven’t already. The uncle ended up looking different than I thought for some reason. 685 words, 3.6 GL, and 1% passive sentence structure. @MichelleLunato

RonovanWrites #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt #Challenge #84 Milk&Smooth

Please use the tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge with your posts, if you can remember. That way if links/ping backs don’t work I can find you.

Haiku Poetry Prompt Writing Challenge Useful Links.
Thesaurus: Milk, Smooth.

Thesaurus.com

RonovanWrites 83rd #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry #Links

Comments are bit skimpy this week. With the book launch of today for Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling now live on Kindle as well as Paperback, I may be able to get back in the swing of things. But after only links last week I felt I needed to get back to a normal review this week. Not that I ever am normal in anything I do.

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #12 Entries: THE #LINKS

Thank you to those who do participate and appreciate those of us who put the effort in each week to come up with prompts, read them all, comment, collect links, and post them to share with our readers and friends.

February 5th is National Wear Red Day, or Shower With a Friend Day. There are much more serious International Days the 5th is set aside for, but the challenge at this point in its growth is not a place to explore those quite yet. Although I’m not stopping anyone. If you know of another National/International Day you want to write about this week, go for it.

  • Word Count of 500. (SUGGESTED)
  • Some great stories were written last week. Continue those stories this week! (SUGGESTED)

OR

  • If you are not writing a series then It’s National ? Day and you are in charge of the party. Create your own National/International Day and spread the news. RonovanWrites #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt #Challenge #83 Gem&Flame

Please use the tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge with your posts, if you can remember. That way if links/ping backs don’t work I can find you.

RonovanWrites 82nd #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry #Poet #Links

Well, you’ll notice the sad state of the Review this week. The reason? A father practicing a rousing game of catch before the upcoming baseball tryouts with his son. A very HARD thrown ball hitting of the glove reaching across the body … from that point onward, it is not certain if the ball went directly into my eye or hit a fence then went into my eye. However, reading is difficult and holding an ice-pack on the eye makes typing difficult. But two awesome things … 1) My son can throw one heck of a fast ball, and 2) All I yelled out was a yell and a Oh Gosh. I was quite proud of myself that my habit of no use of profanity in my language usage came through in that moment. My son was happy too, after he was assured I would survive.

If you haven’t voted about the Review format as of yet, please click HERE and do so.

I thank all of you again, for understanding that I normally save my comments for the review and not always on your blog post. I am attempting to work toward doing both, but I forget sometimes.

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #11 Entries: THE LINKS

Talk about a great prompt idea. This one, or something like it, may show up again. Wow. Some great entries. If you’ve never read the entries of these Fiction Reviews before, start with this one. They are short, and very good.

January 22, which is Friday’s date, is Celebration of Life Day.

  • Take a moment in your life of which you would celebrate and use that as inspiration for a no more than 750 word story, but don’t let that stop you if you are enjoying yourself and the story is going well. (SUGGESTED)
  • If you are not doing a series, write the story as if the characters were animals living in the roles of humans. An example would be the policemen might be German Shepherds and other Police type dogs. (REQUIRED if not in the middle of writing a series.) OR
  • Use the same experience for a story in one of the following Genres: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Thriller. (Required if not using the above.)

NEW MEMBER!
Bella’s Reward
Annette (Annette’s Place)
A new member and a first time ever fiction writer. A great start with Tiny Dance from Elton John as her song choice. I can see Elton in the story. 270 words, 4.0 GL, and 3% passive sentence structure.
Hello! I am new to blogging and I have fallen in LOVE with it! I am 47 years young and have 3 grown son’s I adore. I am a fairly new grandma also of two kids. I simply believe they hung the moon! I was in… [read the rest of the story].”

A Must Read.Golden Earrings
TJ Paris (La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin)
TJ is insane. Certifiable. There is no doubt. No one can convince me otherwise. And it’s not because he chose Peggy Lee’s Golden Earrings. 293 words, 12.1 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @Roccoco_a_GoGo

Ludwig’s Friday Morning
Kim Russell (Writing in North Northfolk)
What a nice story. It sent me to the search engines to read about one of the characters. 358 words, 4.3 GL, and 10% passive sentence structure. @kim88110

Fear no Tear
Neel Anil Panicker (NeelWritesBlog)
An emotional charged piece. I think a lot of men go through something like this. Perhaps not the end result but the events through the story. 897 words, 6.1 GL, and 1% passive sentence structure.

A Must Read. The Perfect Illusion-Part 4
Nandini Bharadwaj (Pages That Rustle)
I’m not certain I’ve ever had an error free entry before. Whoa. I recommend you listen to the song used for this one, even if you aren’t a fan. I did. Excellent. 292 words, 4.0 GL, and 3% passive sentence structure.

GateKeeper
1000hoursleft (Work in Progress)
You’ll never guess what this one is about from the title, and it may even take you several lines in to figure it out. 283 words, 8.7 GL, and 7% passive sentence structure.

Teenage Lobotomy
by Teresa Smeigh (Writing is my Life)
I haven’t even read it yet and I’m already scared by the title. Okay, it turned out better than the title led me to expect. There are no zombies in the story! 281 words, 2.1 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @TeresaSmeigh

Swan Song
by Kat Myrman (like mercury colliding…)
Different. Wonder if she’s ever seen Hudson Hawk? 294 words, 3.6 GL, and 2% passive sentence structure. @kat_myrman

Within the Sounds of Silence
Clarence Holm (PrairieChat)
Dude gone dark on me. Well done. 288 words, 5.2 GL, and 4% passive sentence structure.

Just Friends?
A Must Read Ritu (But I Smile Anyway…)
Well this is well done. Ritu keeps bringing the goods each week. 311 words, 3.7 GL, and 3% passive sentence structure. @PhantomGiggler

The Moon’s Death
Geetha Balvannanathan (Geetha Balvannanathan’s Blog)
Another take on celestial beings. Such a creative take on the prompt. It amazes me where a suggestion can take a person. 366 words, 6.8 GL, and 10% passive sentence structure. @geethap2007

When the thorn bush turns white.
A Must Read Ruby Manchanda (Whispering Thoughts)
This short story could be about a young man in many parts of the world … during so many different eras. I enjoyed the simple quaintness of this, if that’s the correct way of saying it. Something peaceful about it in a strange way. Strange because in a way it shouldn’t be peaceful. 239 words, 5.2 GL, and 5% passive sentence structure.

I don’t hurt any more.
Janni Styles (JanniStyles1)
Probably a story familiar to some in a life they know. A shame really, but true. You can call me Sheila if you like. I’ve been there. 300 words, 2.8 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @jannistyles1

A Chance to Heaven
Wes Hollifield (NearlyWes)
That was unexpected. An interesting ride to an interesting ending? 221 words, 5.7 GL, and 11% passive sentence structure. @Nearly_Wes

Another and here we are again.
A Must Read Florence Thum (Meanings and Musings)
Very nice. Not sure what else to say. 342 words, 3.3 GL, and 2% passive sentence structure. @FTTHum

Always Searching for Something
A Must Read Natalia Erehnah (Weaving Gold)
A very strong entry and part of a novel in progress. Great suspense and sense of urgency. 170 words, 4.3 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. Not a single grammar or spelling error of any sort, even stylistically acceptable errors. Impressive. @weavinggold

De Composition
A Must Read Bill Engleson (Writings)
Okay, this guy is a serious writer. But I knew that already. The way he links together the lyric and that ending … nice. 248 words, 7.0 GL, and 6% passive sentence structure. @billmelaterplea

Broken Heart Drive
A Must Read Michelle LuNato (Chasing Life and Finding Dreams)
If this woman doesn’t write a Contemporary Romance, it’s a waste. 455 words, 2.4 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure. @MichelleLunato

RonovanWrites 81st #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Review

Sorry for the confusion last week with the posting of the Challenge on Sunday for a few hours. Never blog with very little sleep. I went hunting for those who participated last week and I did not have a link for to check and some had participated and some I could not find an entry for. If you missed out because of the error, and would like to be included in this Review, post a Haiku and I’ll update the Review when I wake up. 🙂 As soon as I saw the post had gone out, I took it down to keep as little confusion out there as possible. Some figured out I had goofed. We still had over 60 responses, even with the foul up.

I wanted all those who participate, my friends and Haikumily, (I know Haikumily sound corny for Haiku family but that’s what it is around here in this growing community.) that as we grow, I know I have not been able to be as personable as I used to be, but don’t let that make you think I don’t appreciate all of your dedication to this thing Y’ALL have made such a huge thing. (For those who don’t speak Southernese, Y’all is Southern American for You All, or All of You.)

New Offenders!

NEWISH! Bill Engleson (Author): Trill Born. These three Haiku are in my comments. Last week there was also an offering by this writer, although at that time I Like a Child to Home by Bill Englesonreferred to him as Den because of his ‘call sign’ of denmaniacs4. Since then I’ve found out more about our mystery poster.  “Bill Engleson was active in the child welfare arena for more than 25 years, most of them as a front-line, journeyman, government protection social worker and a dedicated union activist. … Like a Child to Home is also very much  meant to be a means of paying tribute to the amazingly resilient  young people that he met along the way as well as to the hard working adults who shared that journey… [read more from his Bio].”

FANTASY

Colleen Chesebro: The Ultimate Battle | SilverThreading. Colleen shares a thought of what we might see in her book she’s working on and gives us a Haiku as well. @ColleenChesebro

Lizl & Melissa of Aran Artisan: Trees and Rainbows | Quilted Poetry. A back and forth exchange of Haiku between the two.

HUMOR

Judy: I so pretty. | Edwina’s Episodes. I am shaking my head as I type this. I’m speechless. @EdwinasEpisodes

Sandra: Winter | Wild Daffodil. Um, okay, is this NATURE, MOMENT, LIFE, or HUMOR. I think I’ll go with HUMOR this time, just for the fun of it. See what I did there? HUMOR … Fun … no? Pfft. (I’ve never typed Pfft before. Interesting.) You can find the list of this years photo challenges, from her and Melissa, on Daffy’s blog by clicking here. And information about the challenge in her post.

Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha: Testy | A Cooking Pot and TwistedTales. Did she have to go there? I mean really, did she?

INSPIRATION

MUST READ 1000hoursleft (Mek): For Pho’s Sake | Work In Progress. This, so far in my doing the review, is my favorite overall read of a post. Mek used words to describe the experience of creating Pho in such a way you could feel, smell, and experience it yourself. I only wish I could taste it. Two Haiku mixed in with the post, added at just the right moments made this a complete post. I placed this in INSPIRATION because it inspires the desire to experience things like this.

LIFE

Alice: The Gift | Boomerang Zone. Ouch, be more careful next time. It’ll still be there at the end. Take your time. @Vidocq_CC

Lizl: Trusted Source | Quilted Poetry. Lizl went slangy this week … and it works. Check it out and see how she used Trill as slang.

Ritu: The Match-A Tanka | But I Smile Anyway. I am sure she watches because she likes the sport. Mhmm. Has nothing to do with the shorts. Mhmm. @PhantomGiggler

Clarence: My Erroneous Trill | PrairieChat. For someone who misread the prompt at first … he made up for it with 5 Haiku.

Greg: Her Voice | Potholes in the Road of Life. It ain’t puccinie or pavoratii but there you have it. (And Yes, I  know I didn’t spell them correctly. What’s the fun in being right ALL the time?) @greg_wolford

Meredith & Martha: Opera by Meredith and Peace by Martha | Meredith’s Reveries. I don’t understand why Meredith gave us the one Haiku this week. Oh sure, Martha ran off and left her alone for the sunny environs of the wayward South, but still. Oh, and Meredith, I could have sent you my CPAP machine. @Meredithlbl

Mira: final call | To Wear a Rainbow. And the scene fades. @BediMona

Elusive: The Saxophonist | Elusive Trope. Play that funky music white boy. Actually this one deserves a more serious comment than that. Using trill in this way was inspired and also telling of personal enjoyments. Haiku can be very telling about the writer.

OBA: Dreamland Vibes | The king’s oracle. A bit of a nice rhythm to this one as you read it. @obapathway

Diedre Blake: Sonatas | Toward the Within … Let’s get musical, musical. Let’s get musical.

Mahitha Kasireddi: Charged Thunders | MagyKars. Hmm, a moment of life, a big moment I think.

Ruby Manchada: Wafting Rhymes | Whispering Thoughts. I think someone feels like dancing, dancing the night away.

Jen (JK): Higher | The Secret Keeper. The musicality rises and raises.  @occultguardian

Prakash: Lesson | It’s PH. Learn something new every day. @ItsPhTweet

Neel Anil Panicker: Shrill Till | NeelWritesBlog. I think someone likes rhyming.

MOMENTS

MUST READ Pancake Bunnykins: Last Breath | A Real Messy Beautiful Twisted Sunshine.  I’m putting this in MOMENTS, but it could easily be in LIFE, or NATURE. The word choice and writing allows for such a wide interpretation. Only the image used leads me to be specific in the placement. For those visiting this blog, the like button is to the left of the top image. A little different than the usual theme’s we visit.

Marie: Empty Playground | The Syllabub Sea. I missed typing the letter l in ‘playground’ the first time through, not sure if that is telling of something or not. This one gives me a sad feeling of a devoted teacher’s thoughts. Maybe that says something about me. I get that hollow sad feeling when I think about having once been a teacher but unable to remember.

Olga:  Memories of Childhood | Stuff and what if. See the thrilling transformation of this trilling product of a nun. Say what?

jazzytower (PR): Fun Endings | Thoughts and Entanglements. A bit of a, um, play on words for the title there from me but I like it. A good memory shared. Well nice to have it shared.

R. Todd: Taps… | A Flash of Fiction. Very nice. Not much more you want to say really. Make certain to scroll down to click like or you’ll miss the second one. @psibrone

Nato: Trill of Love | Chasing Life and Finding Dreams. She is such a romantic. @MichelleLunato
Return to Top

NATURE

Kat: On the Wing | like mercury colliding. At first glance of the title I was concerned this might be a recipe. Then of course I read the actual Haiku itself and the interesting fact that went along with it. @kat_myrman

TJ Paris: Sunset |La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin. A feasty boy writes as poem, and his ships come sailing after him. Or is that chips? And what’s that about a prawny tiger? Aussie people have some strange anjimals. Then there was a pelican too? @Roccoco_a_GoGo

Ken G.: Spring’s Herald | RIVRVLOGR. Very nice Haiku and enjoyed the selection of image here. I’m wondering about that one fellow at the top though.

MUST VISIT & SEE Denis: Trilling Seagulls | HaikuHound. Guys, you MUST go and see this. The photography here of Australia at sunset is AWESOME!!! I always love Denis’ photos of his pet and all the birds he comes upon, but the birds are secondary in these. Makes you want to get up and make a trip.

Janice: Evening tweets | Ontheland. I like the tongue in cheek of that title. But the two Haiku are even better. And where else but NATURE would you find Janice? @ontheland1

Kim M. Russell: Evensong | Writing in North Northfolk. You have to like those Haiku that can be read as one sentence or two separate ones. @kim88110

Cathy: Winter Haiku | Rambling in the Garden. I climatic telling of the UK Midlands. It’s nice to see similarities between nations and people in things as simple as the weather. This matches what happened here this past weekend, much to the displeasure of my son.

Al: Sunset  | A Certain Point of View. Interpret this one how you may. How many ways can you? Will you go with the straight forward obvious, or obvious to most, or will you think outside the box? @AlistairLane

MUST READ JustMaria: Earth’s Cry | Doodles and Scribbles. (Why do I use JustMaria? Because we have other women named Maria in the challenge AND I first met Maria as JustMaria. Although there is nothing JUST about her.) When I saw the title in the link, the first thing I thought of was how when the earth begins to tremble for whatever reason, earthquake or some other cataclysmic event, birds let out a call of warning, alarm. They are like the cry of the earth to let other living things know something is happening. Maria came up with another idea and a lot more poetic too.  @ciisalveni

Roz Hill: Hardened Harmony | Small Spaces and the good life with Roz and Phil Hill. After some snowl searching, (It’s an inside joke, inside of me that is.) we have a nice Haiku with a photo that would be good for using in a story. That’s one reason you check out blogs, for reference material.

Janice: Canaries in the Coal Mine | Ontheland. I knew, of course, what this one would be about as soon as I saw the title. Then I read the rest of the post. The post itself had to do with the Writer’s Quote Wednesday hosted by Colleen of SilverThreading.com and the #BeWoW (Be Writing on Wednesday/Be Wonderful on Wednesday) event hosted by me. A good read. @ontheland1

Crow: Poem 20160128 (Forward Thinking) | Caw!.  As always the words are my title contribution. A programmer but I wonder if there is a gardener inside this one. @Crow

Melissa: Snowdrops/Winter Sky. | The Aran Artisan. Some of you may know what her titles mean, and some of you will be completely wrong. Melissa and one of our other Haikumily members, Sandra the Daffy one, helped compile this years list of ‘photo word of the week‘ challenge. @TheAranArtisan

Mira: Free | They, You and Me. Awww, she went NATURE on us. Very nice. Peaceful @BediMona

Lisa Greenbow: Gardens and Haiku | Greenbow. Nice Haiku with nice photography from the other half.

Becky: The Hills are Alive with the … | Becky G? Oh, That’s Me! When you read this one, you know you’ll finish that title.

VronLaCroix: Fence near an Oak | Simply Snapshots. The cool thing about this is what the fence is made of. Here, in America, you would rarely find this. Rarely, I said. I did not say not at all.

STORYTELLING

Simple Girl: Magic | PERFERVIDDREAMS. 3 selections creating a story of magic.

Wesley Hollifield: Broken/Trust | NearlyWes. Well done story even with a not so happy plot. I think my prompt word led to some rhyme to it and thus sent some in some interesting directions.

Sarina Jolly Roger | Shining Seeds I thought this title fit considering her mention of it in more than Haiku only. A story almost of pirate lore.  @shiningseeds

Thinky

Tolulope Sanusi: An Exception | Ruby’s Polaroid. This being a THINKY piece, you’ll have to think about it. @rubyr8_soul

Ronovan: Dripping Melody | Ronovan Writes. I really have no idea what I was thinking. @RonovanWrites

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #10 Entries: THE LINKS

A Must Read designation does NOT mean an entry is necessarily better than the other entries. It means that entry clicked with me in some way in that moment I read it.

This week has some awesome entries. Very imaginative and creative. Some are stepping out into new areas, just as the challenge was intended to do.

Celebration
Kim Russell (Writing in North Northfolk)
This could be an occurrence in many other countries, and I imagine some women would prefer it that way. 762 words, 5.2 GL, and 2% passive sentence structure. @kim88110

The Perfect Illusion-Part 3
Nandini Bharadwaj (Pages That Rustle)
Nandini gives us a fresh look at Vivian in this third part in her series. I’m glad she’s decided to continue on with the story. 748 words, 5.8 GL, and 10% passive sentence structure.

A Special Day to Celebrate
Clarence Holm (PrairieChat) Must Read
This week clearance gives a wonderful story based on true events in the style of using animals instead of people. The cool thing about this story is that you can actually visually see what’s going on in the story and there is some humor to it and the message as well. 422 words, 3.8 GL, and 0% passive sentence structure.

Surprise Birth
by Ritu (But I Smile Anyway…) Must Read
Somehow think our Ritu would know the viewpoints of the can’t in situation like this. Her imagination just keeps showing no limits. 760 words, 4.4 GL, and 5% passive sentence structure. @PhantomGiggler

Goober Picatsso
Bill Engleson (Writings) Must Read
This week Bill brings a great story humor, satire, you name it it’s in here is. A great take on how some people view themselves some of you may like it so you may not but it’s all good, right?. 748 words, 5.7 GL, and 3% passive sentence structure.

Surprise
by Teresa Smeigh (Writing is my Life) THIS ENTRY HAS BEEN DELETED FROM THE MAIN BLOG.
Teresa pulled in the animal with the thriller with the Boab tree in a very um, uh, smashing way. 865 words, 3.8 GL, and 6% passive sentence structure. @TeresaSmeigh

Milestones
by Kat Myrman (like mercury colliding…)
Kat reveals her 50th birthday adventure . . . with a typo. 671 words, 5.3 GL, and 3% passive sentence structure. @kat_myrman

Cycle of Life
Florence Thum (Meanings and Musings)
Florence steps outside her genre comfort zone this week with a Fantasy piece. She says she started in one direction but ended up someplace else. 795 words, 5.5 GL, and 12% passive sentence structure. @FTTHum

The King’s Dance
Michelle ‘Nato’ Lunato (Chasing Life and Finding Dreams)
Does Nato get her man in the end? Does she dance with the King? 637 words, 4.3 GL, and 5% passive sentence structure. @MichelleLunato

Life is Round the Corner
Neel Anil Panicker (NeelWritesBlog)
I imagine this is a very widespread case across different places and circumstances. 834 words, 4.6 GL, and 1% passive sentence structure.

Laugh of the Week and site changes.

Did you notice the site looks different?

First up, check out the CHALLENGES BY MY PALS page. As I discover people who participate in my challenges who have Weekly Challenges of their own, I’ll be adding them to this page. You can add your challenge to the comments if you like so I know. But I reserve the right to say no and delete the comment. If you aren’t an active part of our community I can’t see my promoting your site … yet. That may sound unfriendly but I think it’s fair.

As for the new look of the blog. I’m experimenting. My theme has different layouts and I’m going to see what I like.

Ronovan Writes Laugh of the Week

I’ll be putting videos at the top of the sidebar and for now those will be the LAUGH of the WEEK. You don’t have to leave the sidebar to watch or listen to it. Click the play symbol in the center and you’ve got it.

I won’t be doing a post each week about the video I show. Instead, it will be there on the sidebar for you to click and watch if you like. I intend to keep them as short as possible. This weeks is longer than the ones I will like to normally use of no more than 2:00.

Let me say a little about this weeks LAUGH of the WEEK.

At 4:55 it is worth it to see Tim Conway attempt to make Carol Burnett break character during a skit where four characters are playing Password. Tim has just said Elephant, which is wrong, in response to Carol’s clue. All Carol has to do is get Vicki Lawrence, Mama in this skit, to begin her part by giving a clue to guest star Dick Van Dyke. But Carol has to be able to speak in order to do it.

A little backstory to this segment. There were rehearsals earlier in the day. Even then, Carol was having a difficult time keeping a straight face. The director came through during makeup and told Vicki Lawrence, of Mama’s Family fame, actually the youngest member of the cast who played Mama the one in glasses and the grey wig, that the Elephant story had changed and to be prepared for anything.

Vicki knew it would be trouble trying to get through the skit with a straight face. Her husband, the makeup man on the show, told her to get Tim Conway for a change because Tim was always trying to crack people up, even making Harvey Korman, who some may know from Blazing Saddles, pee in his pants during the famous Dentist skit. Vicki had a difficult time in the past doing anything off script because she was so young and felt she shouldn’t. Her attempt to ‘get’ Tim has a word in it that I don’t use. Watch and see what happens.

Here is the URL for the challenge!

Haiku Poetry Prompt Writing Challenge Useful Links.
Thesaurus: Trill, Final.

Thesaurus.com

Just so people know why I was sharing the stats from last year for the challenge, I wanted all of you to know what this community has accomplished.

Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge Image 2016

Challenge #81

  4. You may copy one of the badges/images appearing in this post below or above and place it on your site if you wish, most normally use it within their post. I am not saying you need to, but if you would like to do so then go ahead. It is simply my way of saying thank you for participating. I sometimes make custom images for the week, if time and health permits.
  5. The Challenge currently BEGINS at 8 AM EST (New York City time) on Mondays. And a DEADLINE is Noon EST (New York City time) on the Sunday following the Challenge Post release.
  6. Are you interested in having your Haiku entry included in our FREE eBook Project? Click HERE to find out more.
