Holiday Train – a poem

The night is dry, and the lights glow with cheer,

As the train rolls through to announce the Holiday is here.

The pretty blue tree, an elf singing with the band,

makes the clouds festive, while in the cold we stand.

Cheeks are happily frozen, slight relief from hot cocoa cups,

a time it’s okay to make kids out of grownups.

Rushing our way home to find comfort in warm beds,

Jobs are tomorrow, tonight joyful dreams play in our heads.

Tree Hanger – a poem

Monday‘s captioned truth,

I see the first light ending,

gasp, “Mom’s fringed bottom!”

the Self or the Whole – a poem

Through My Eyes – a poem

through simian eyes

she can almost see freedom

from behind cold bars

from behind cold bars

kind voices spur her dreams      hope

pony her language

pony her language

for true insight to open

effort must happen

effort must happen

to bring quality of trust

be shepherds of life

The definition of PONY here isa literal translation of a foreign language text. For example, Robert Pinsky is reported to have used a literal translation in preparing his translation of Dante‘s Inferno (1994), as he does not know Italian. Similarly, Richard Pevear worked from literal translations provided by his wife, Larissa Volokhonsky, in their translations of several Russian novels.

This poem uses the Haiku form with a repeating pattern of the 3rd line of one stanza being the 1st line of the next. I started this pattern during a previous post. Give it a try if you like.

I composed this in response to Jibber Jabber with Sue’s poetry prompt of QUALITY, Pensitivity’s Three Things Challenge of PONY, ALMOST, and FROM. and my Haiku Poetry Challenge words CHIMPANZEE and KISS. Click the links to go to the challenges.

The Quenching Cup – a poem

her name called       moves her,

from the summer’s scorching heat,

clouds teasing relief

clouds teasing relief,

give hope of a friendly pool,

to cool the burning

to cool the burning

she crawls to the edge to drink

from this lake of fate

from this lake of fate

the point        a quenching rebirth

she may soar         again

This poem uses the Haiku form with a repeating pattern of the 3rd line of one stanza to be the 1st line of the next. I am not aware of a Haiku form using this pattern, not that it matters. Give it a try if you like. I composed this in response to Jibber Jabber with Sue’s poetry prompt of FRIENDLY and Pensitivity’s Three Things Challenge of NAME, EDGE, and POINT. Advice to the Paid – a poem

Any advice or thought,

brief each one set to carouse,

or they’ll loose their pay.

I thought I would do a few challenges in one today. And I did mean to spell the word as “loose.” I chose  four this week. Jibber Jabber with Sue’s – Advice, One Daily Prompt’s – Carouse, Pensitivity’s Three Things Challenge, and my own Haiku Challenge – Intent&Thought.

A Poem of Challenges…

a voice from on high

raining down over blind hearts

 the shared truth triumphs

The mind plus the heart makes for change.

A whisper of placation will do,

as will just praying from your pew.

Groupthink who buys that…will derange.

Those aware are bound to outrange.

Fools who hate, fear, and deny,

why degenerate, prove your why?

He’s in his fortress, while you fight?

Him or the blood, you know which’s right.

For him, no grace, a nation’s cry.
