The Guidelines are simple.

  1. Use the two prompt words in a Haiku. I use Haiku in English  as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above gives you more specifics of a Haiku and other forms of Haiku.
  2. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help. I’ve also included the words at the top of the page.
  3. Copy and paste the URL link of your finished haiku post into a comment here on the challenge post. I then know you did one, and we can all go visit your site to see what you have done. You can also do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link from the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). I honestly gain nothing by more people visiting the post. I don’t have ads running I get paid for by your visit.
  4. Use the Tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge. This will help me find you in case you forget to ping back or leave your URL in the comments.

Drinking from the Carton-Father’s Day.

Well, it’s Father’s Day here in the United States. Yes, that day when men all over the country have an excuse to eat as much meat as possible, watch sports, and scratch themselves wherever and whenever they feel like it.

Normally a person takes a moment to speak about their father, but I’m not such a normal person, am I?

However, I am a father, so let’s talk about a person that should be talked about today, my boy “B”.

If you think about it, without him, I would just be a man doing all those things I mentioned at the beginning and be considered an uncouth, animal hating, pig. I thank B for giving me a reason and an excuse for all my man behavior. Picking my teeth in public is a way to keep from getting cavities, scratching deep inside my ear and then staring at the results is a health check, and drinking from the carton of milk is water conservation, energy efficient, and less labor intensive than dish washing.

All those aforementioned things are life lessons as opposed to bad manners. The real reason for writing today is to say B is the reason I live. He’s the reason I found myself wanting to wake up and keep going after my accident. He’s the reason I maintain sanity at times. He’s the reason I remain a reasonable adult when I would rather throw things and say bad words, two things I haven’t done since finding out he was on his way into this world.

I love my boy B. Children are amazing to me. I run across some that I claim as my own at times. I like to try and be an example and a good male figure in their lives. Sometimes I succeed, while other times I fail. In other words, I’m the real thing.

Love to all the children out there that make Father’s Day happen.

Xenia of Whippet Wisdom, yay another dog with blog who lets its owner post sometimes! Fresh Winds Whisper Peace and I believe it with a photo of dogs on a beach. Can’t beat that. Pulling out the puppy card always gets attention.

Srivi, The Piscean me, has Messy Hair! this week. And I do mean messy.

Nato of Chasing Life and Finding Dreams ended up being Always with me this week. I love how she keeps me in her thoughts long after I’m gone. (Sigh.)

Alice the Boomerang Zone queen speaks straight from the headlines of the week with Orlando Massacre. Need I say more?

Judy, the published poetess of Edwina’s Episodes pipes in with Flying Forth. Yes, it’s a weird title for it but I made it up. That happens if  you don’t name ’em. 😛

Bill gives us Renewal. Not sure if I like the haiku or the description of what he was doing at the time of thinking of it better.

Ken from RIVRVLOGR came up with Fresh Wind. OOOoOOOooO all deep and romantical.

Mira who sometimes can be found To Wear A Rainbow wrote for us this week my lover… Another romantical one.

Ritu over at But I Smile Anyway apparently is sending a message that Wind seems to be Awakening her Hayfever. Don’t wonder about it, just click and read.

Oneta of Sweet Aroma wrote Evening’s Peace. Man, I need this to happen. The big boy is dragging as he writes this. Been on the go the last couple of days. Summertime for me means less rest, more fatigue, and being cook and entertainment coordinator for my 11/12 year old son, B. Okay, so he entertains himself mostly but I hate him sitting alone so I stay with him and we do stuff.

Maria at Doodles and Scribbles wrote Ildio, a haiku of inspiration and peace.

Melissa The Aran Artisan gives a cultural lesson with Native sean nós singing on Inise  Mor.

Lizi of Quilted Poetry and Springtime Songs, a nice take on the word wind.

Tolulope from Ruby’s Polaroid wrote Ocean Dreams. Just the name is good enough to be great and I haven’t even read the haiku at this point.

Denis visits from Haiku Hound. Charlie appeared to be enjoying the day more than Denis in this photo of their Windy Memory.

Khor from Project Prose wrote New beginnings, an inspiration for those needing a lift to their lives.

Clarence visits one more time from PrairieChat with Bellicose Boasts. So that’s why we get all those storms in the South that time of year. Hmm.

Scott writes Scents over on TheHouseOfBailey. Yeah, she let him out again. I like the two sentences here. One of somewhat peace if you think of it that way, and the other one instilling a bit of fear.

Tricia of A Creative State of Mind gives us Summer Song. Now, I have to say, some of these things in the image can drive me insane, but those made by a true musical ear can be very nice.

Sri of Naa Prapancham,My World… wrote Afresh. I like how so many people went with fresh outlooks on life. A very positive week.

Dependable R. Todd from A Flash of Fiction showed up with The Promise, with something that should bring some memories of you to many of us. It even gave me a little flash. Which if you know me, you know a flash of memory is a good thing to have. Thanks, dude.

Greg of Nagrij Writes the Hits You Never Knew Existed (Yes, that is the name of his blog.) gives us Oil Spill. So there went the positive outlook on life. 😀 Very descriptive in so few words. Worth the visit and read.

Vashti and The Writer Next Door. The writer that lives next me doesn’t look anything like Vashti. Thank goodness, or I would never end up writing. Anyway, this author writes What If Mother Nature Wanted A Fresh Start?

Rebirth of a Man. #WQWWC

The difference two years can make in a persons life is beyond imagining. Blogging can end up being many things in your life. For me, it was a way to begin having something to do, something to wake up and ‘work’ at. For a man who’d worked his whole adult life, it was unusual to find himself in the land of nothingness, although in truth, I didn’t really know what that meant at the time. Amnesia can do that to you. It’s odd to think about what you do and do not remember.

I never had expectations from blogging. Maybe I wanted people to read my work. Originally this was to be a Christian site. With the first post it became a writer’s site. I still try to keep it along the lines of Christianity in tone and demeanor, but as goes a Christian life astray at times, so goes a blog post as well.

When I first began blogging I wrote some of the darkest poetry I’ve ever put pen to. I couldn’t write like that again if I were paid. It’s not in me. I’m a happy person now. I’m content with most of my life. I think friendship and having people care about me has changed me a lot.

I don’t dwell in the land of self-pity any longer. I don’t check in to depression hotel. I used to have a buy two nights get the third one free deal with the DH. Now, I don’t even get junk mail or spam for specials.

I’m so content that I have a hard time writing poetry at all. That may sound odd, the thinking being that maybe I would be able to write happy poems, but really it’s that I just do ‘think’ about things because they all go well right now. Well, maybe not all. When those things don’t go well now, they are even worse than my old bad days. Now I know what good is like so the bad moments are that much worse. However, I know there is another way of life than sadness.

My rebirth began two years ago, in June. I didn’t know it at the time, but looking back now I can tell it did. Two years later and it’s as though life has taken an even bigger leap into the good zone. By all rights I should be depressed at this moment, but I’m not. Things are good, real good. The outlook on life is good. Confirmations have happened. Affirmations. Other ‘tions’ I’m sure I can’t thing of at the moment.

Love is a wonderful thing to have. Rebirth in almost every way can be seen as the results of love, caring. If you need a new life, look for love. Love’s the best medicine you can find.

With decades of writing behind me and daily learning of how to be a better writer, and by daily, I do mean constant, I wanted to give a way for current friends and future finders of this blog a way to push themselves to improve as well.

Through this challenge my hopes are you will:

  1. Find your voice
  2. Step out of comfort zones to discover a genre where your talent truly lies
  3. Perhaps make connections that will help you become a better writer

DEADLINE IS:

23:59 EST (New York Time) Wednesday. I will then have Thursday to complete reading the entries and compiling the links and such. I do read all entries. You can ask any of my Haiku Challenge family/community members.

I DO ASK THAT YOU:

  • Keep it PG as all ages do follow the blog and may click through and read the entries. (Continue for exceptions.)
  • If you do write a piece of fiction that goes past the PG level, copy the link into the comments of this post and make a note of it being such and give the reasons you think it is, such as violence (See below for clarification.), sexual content, language/profanity.
  • No violence toward children by adults or predatory aspects toward children. I know you may have two kids have a fight. I get that, but I don’t want gratuitous violence such as glorifying bullying. Also I can see you having a kid kicking some bad guy in the face for some reason. I get it.
  • No sexual assault against anyone.

SECONDLY, if the story is flowing, don’t let the word count stop you; keep writing. THIRDLY, if you are an ACTIVE challenge participant and you just aren’t feeling the prompt, write something and ping back or paste your link.   • Word Count is off! Let’s focus on the theme of the thing. Not many actually stick to the word count anyway. (SUGGESTED-No more than 500 if you want to try that.)
  • Using the prompt of ‘Favorite Song’, WRITE. Use your Favorite Song as inspiration for your fiction. Maybe it’s the title for it or maybe it appears in the story in some way? (REQUIRED)

Rebirth of a Nation. #WQWWC

I generally like to do multiple quotes either as a list or to weave through a commentary on Wednesday to go with the Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge or #WQWWC. This week, what with all that’s happened recently in Orlando, FL here in the US, I stumbled across one quote I felt pretty much sums up how America is.

“You know Americans are obsessed with life and death and rebirth, that’s the American Cycle. You know, awakening, tragic, horrible death and then Phoenix rising from the ashes. That’s the American story, again and again.” Billy Corgan

The sad thing is, the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins is right. But the American story needs to do away with some of those repetitive chapters, and do so soon. It may take some ugly steps to do it, some things most of us will just not like.

I’m someone who has to do things and be on the side of things and told I’m just not right a lot. It’s difficult, but I’m okay with it because I know it’s the right thing.

A Great Life.

You ever have someone make you feel as though you were incapable of doing things, like you were an invalid of sorts?

Having Fibromyalgia, among other things, seems to give people some right to make claims over what I can and cannot do. Yes, I will hurt a lot if I exert myself too much. Does that mean I stop living?

“Never stop fighting until you arrive at your destined place – that is, the unique you. Have an aim in life, continuously acquire knowledge, work hard, and have perseverance to realise the great life.” A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. A career scientist turned politician…(Wikipedia)

I guess one needs to determine what their destined place is. Once determined, then decide what fighting means. One also must come to realize what ‘great life’ means for them. Your great life may not be my great life. In fact, I can guarantee it’s not. How can I be sure?
I already know what great life means for me.
It takes a lot to fight. I call it sticking to my guns. Once you make a decision you must follow through with it. Many things will be thrown in your way. Sometimes they even make a lot of sense. You are momentarily sidetracked, waylaid. The goal, the great life is still ahead and still attainable, but the path is now muddied and rather being in a car you’re on foot.
The thing is, why are you now on foot? It’s because you let it happen. You let doubt and fear get in the way. Fear comes in many forms. You may fear some physical reaction. Maybe it’s a form of emotional abuse that attacks you and attempts to prevent you from arriving at your destination.
Yet, here I am, taking steps to enjoy my life. Just because my life doesn’t match the everyday ordinary vanilla expectations of those around me doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. It doesn’t mean it’s bad. You would be surprised at how little in my life these past few years would have been accomplished if I caved at every turn.
Here I am. Come and take me.

In God’s Sight.

13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Romans 2)

Some might find it odd that Romans is one of my favorite books of the Bible, what with it being so controversial at times. It’s only controversial because of the way people take verses out of context and how a letter has been divided into chapters. Maybe I’m being a bit repetitive with my whole dividing books into chapters thing, but I think it’s worth saying, and saying often.

This verse is the one that came up today for me to study and I thought I would share it with you. Let’s look at all of it, and this is Paul speaking to the early church in Rome.

12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

A lot of people ‘hear’ the words of the Bible. Many people even sit in church two or three times a week hearing the Word of the Lord, yet walk out to the parking lot and immediately do the opposite of what they had just said Amen to.

Some of you may have heard that if a person claims to be a Christian they need to do things called works to show they are Christian. I’m not that flavor of Christian. I do believe you need to show in your way of life that a change has come over you, that you are no longer a person that things a certain way is okay to act. What I’m talking about here is living like what Jesus said we should.

A Gentile is a non-Jew. God reaches people around the world through various means, even dreams. He reaches people through their heart. When you see someone being ill treated, even in a minor way, and it tugs at your heart, that’s the goodness of God that’s written into your DNA. We all have that code to unlock.

It’s a shame when professed Christians do things completely opposite of Christ. I share from time to time good words here on my blog. I like to encourage people. I like to give hope. I like to inspire. I like to show a side of Christianity that is nonjudgmental. The only person I can judge is another Christian when I see them doing something against the Word of God, and even then it’s only to say, “Hey, brother, maybe you should take a step back and think about what you’re doing.” I’ve done lots of things in my life, thus I know I’m far from perfect. That lack of perfection gives me the ability and inclination to speak out at times to others to say, “I changed. If I did all of these things with a decision, so can you.”

The world doesn’t become a better place when you become a Christian or if you decide to simply use the words of the Bible as a guide to a good way of living. Actually you see the world with a different pair of eyes. That new world is far worse than you ever knew. You see the problems, you see answers, but you know people think your solutions are just Jesus Freak brainwashing.

A lady from another country commented on a recent post about how her own faith leads to thinking much like my own, and words much like that of the Bible. Gentiles are given God’s words and will in so many ways. Who knows, maybe He spoke to someone and said, “Put this down, tell your people this.” I am not above saying God won’t use anything good to do his will.

Do good. Do what Jesus says. You can’t go wrong. Even Gandhi loved the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew Chapter 5.

KEEP ON LOVING.

1Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. (Hebrews 13)

Beautiful words, aren’t they? Some may even be surprised they come from the Bible. There are people that don’t realize there are two parts of the Bible, a historical half and an application part. I always like to point to the fact the ugly parts of the historical being included as being signs of how true the Bible is. If all those who put the Bible together wanted was a positive point of view without any negative parts for people to point fingers at, they would have left the Old Testament out.

But more about those words up there. I have a friend visiting the south this week. A stranger to this country and especially this part of the world. Southern Hospitality has reined and dispelled some naysayers to how Americans are, and how Southerners might be. I’ll be surprised if she doesn’t get adopted into a family here before she makes it to the airport for her trip back home.

As a Christian, living in the Bible Belt of the nation, I like to think some of the verses above seep into the culture. Even those not attending church, not reading or believing the Bible, are exposed to the behavior of Christians. Some say these characteristics are only basic polite gestures. If so, then why don’t all parts of the world do the same? I’m not saying all parts of the world don’t have nice people, every part of the world does have nice people.

What I’m saying is, here in the South we have this culture of politeness and respect for one another that even the young get eventually. They like to act a certain way in front of their friends but once away from them, they slip into the polite culture. They KNOW how to act.

Or perhaps it’s that they act that way around adults who don’t jump to a conclusion about them. Perhaps it’s to those adults that treat them with respect and pleasantries they will reciprocate. If anyone can find fault in the words above, well, it would be interesting.

Just because we have a loved one in prison does not mean they cease to exist. And as for those suffering, have you not suffered in some way that you cannot empathize?

The scripture at the beginning of this post are the first verses of Hebrews Chapter 13. As some of you who have read me long enough may know, I don’t like the chapter divisions of the Bible.

The end of Hebrews Chapter 12:

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

The above is the paragraph right before the paragraph I started off the post with. I like to show previous verses at times to show context and how one leads into the other.

With decades of writing behind me and daily learning of how to be a better writer, and by daily, I do mean constant, I wanted to give a way for current friends and future finders of this blog a way to push themselves to improve as well.

Through this challenge my hopes are you will:

  1. Find your voice
  2. Step out of comfort zones to discover a genre where your talent truly lies
  3. Perhaps make connections that will help you become a better writer

DEADLINE IS:

23:59 EST (New York Time) Wednesday. I will then have Thursday to complete reading the entries and compiling the links and such. I do read all entries. You can ask any of my Haiku Challenge family/community members.

I DO ASK THAT YOU:

  • Keep it PG as all ages do follow the blog and may click through and read the entries. (Continue for exceptions.)
  • If you do write a piece of fiction that goes past the PG level, copy the link into the comments of this post and make a note of it being such and give the reasons you think it is, such as violence (See below for clarification.), sexual content, language/profanity.
  • No violence toward children by adults or predatory aspects toward children. I know you may have two kids have a fight. I get that, but I don’t want gratuitous violence such as glorifying bullying. Also I can see you having a kid kicking some bad guy in the face for some reason. I get it.
  • No sexual assault against anyone.

SECONDLY, if the story is flowing, don’t let the word count stop you; keep writing. THIRDLY, if you are an ACTIVE challenge participant and you just aren’t feeling the prompt, write something and ping back or paste your link. I’ll still include it in the #Links post the following Friday.

  • Word Count is off! Let’s focus on the theme of the thing. Not many actually stick to the word count anyway. (SUGGESTED-No more than 500 if you want to try that.)

Through this challenge my hopes are you will:

23:59 EST (New York Time) Wednesday. I will then have Thursday to complete reading the entries and compiling the links and such. I do read all entries. You can ask any of my Haiku Challenge family/community members.

I DO ASK THAT YOU:

  • Keep it PG as all ages do follow the blog and may click through and read the entries. (Continue for exceptions.)
  • If you do write a piece of fiction that goes past the PG level, copy the link into the comments of this post and make a note of it being such and give the reasons you think it is, such as violence (See below for clarification.), sexual content, language/profanity.
  • No violence toward children by adults or predatory aspects toward children. I know you may have two kids have a fight. I get that, but I don’t want gratuitous violence such as glorifying bullying. Also I can see you having a kid kicking some bad guy in the face for some reason. I get it.
  • No sexual assault against anyone.

Quotes of Connection. Inspire.

Sometimes when I put together a post for some sort of challenge, I just include a list of quotes or try to link them together in some form. The form this time is simple. I’m not going to express how certain quotes are about writing or one subject.

You ever see a quote and it speaks to you? As I was putting together a group of quotes this week for my other site I ran across several that did just that, spoke to me, in different ways. All talk about Inspiration.

“Being a father has been, without a doubt, my greatest source of achievement, pride and inspiration. Fatherhood has taught me about unconditional love, reinforced the importance of giving back and taught me how to be a better person.” Naveen Jain (Founder and former CEO of InfoSpace.)

This quote is so true to me. Becoming a parent, you decide you want to set an example, and during that time you realize how bad an example you really are. If you are the right kind of parent, and yes I do believe there is a right kind of parent, then you change and do so in a sincere way. You don’t play the part only when the child is looking.
 

“Inspiration comes from within yourself. One has to be positive. When you’re positive, good things happen.” Deep Roy (Indian Actor born in Kenya)

Anyone that knows me knows this quote could have come from me. For the longest time I’ve talked about the power of being positive. When you are being negative, have you ever felt that physical drain on your body? The opposite happens when you focus on being positive. You see the positive things happening instead of focusing on the petty little things that really aren’t important at all.
“My inspiration are the woman, friendship, and loneliness.” Enrique Iglesias (Spanish singer, songwriter, and actor.)
Here is a surprise source for a quote that speaks to me. But he pretty much sums things up quite nicely when it comes to what inspires me in my writing.

“Cease trying to work everything out with your minds. It will get you nowhere. Live by intuition and inspiration and let your whole life be Revelation.” Eileen Caddy (Spiritual teacher and new age author.)

I don’t know what her intent was when she said this, but as with all things spoken, one takes from it what they wish. For me this goes along with positivity and for me, my faith. On both sides of the faith line people are all about proving something. The Christian wishes to prove the existence of God and Creation, the Atheist wishes to prove there is no God and that some other process occurred that brought everything into being in some way. Both side has scientist that study things for the advancement of the human race. For those, I say awesome, for the others who only do things to fight, I say, chill. Debates rarely if ever changes minds or hearts. Doing the work for a positive reason will be a reward.

“To what greater inspiration and counsel can we turn than to the imperishable truth to be found in this treasure house, the Bible?” Queen Elizabeth II (Queen of the United Kingdom since 1952.)

This is the quote that made me want to write this post in the first place. Notice what the Queen says here. “To what greater inspiration and counsel…” I think so many people forget what the Bible was given to us for. Yes, we are to believe what it says. But one thing above all, we are supposed to use it as a way to lead a life. Imagine if we all took the New Testament, in context, and lived that way. Wow. Live as Jesus taught. Live through his counsel. Do I care what other people believe about the Bible and God? Yep. I would be lying if I said no. Does it matter to me that some of my friends don’t believe in God as I do? Yep. Again a truth, not fighting words. Do I wish they would use the New Testament as a source of inspiration and advice? Yep. Do they have to believe it to use it? Nope.
Gotcha with that last one, didn’t I? Hey, if the Sermon on the Mount was good enough for Gandhi, then it’s good enough for anyone else. Gandhi’s interest in Jesus began early in his life. In England, sent to learn law in l888, the young Hindu was persuaded to read the Bible even before he had studied the Bhagavad Gita and other Indian classics. The Sermon on the Mount, he said, “went straight to my heart”: “When I read in the Sermon on the Mount such passages as…’whoever smiteth thee on thy cheek turn to him the other also’ I was simply overjoyed.”(a)
Gandhi is one of the greats that inspires me about Jesus, on par with Billy Graham. Do I consider Billy Graham to be as important to the world as Gandhi? I guess it all depends on the specific reason to be looking at each person. Gandhi inspires me because of who and what he was and how much stock he put into the Sermon on the Mount. I’ll be doing a post about Gandhi and his thoughts about that text. One thing about the Hindu that I like is they take from whatever and utilize the best of them. At least some do. I’m sure some take the worsts if they so wish. Just like people of every other religion will take what they want from them what they want for themselves. Gandhi took the best of the entire Bible and put it to work, and practiced it. Graham faced the modern world, all the many facets of the West and still went out on faith in God. I wonder if their names beginning with G has anything to do with it, also same number of letters. Weird.

Prompt for Challenge

FIRST OF ALL: Please remember, this is NOT a race. Take your time. Friday is only a part of the title, not a deadline. SECONDLY, if the story is flowing, don’t let the word count stop you; keep writing. THIRDLY, if you are an ACTIVE challenge participant and you just aren’t feeling the prompt, write something and ping back or paste your link. I’ll still include it in the #Links post the following Friday.

  • Word Count is off! Let’s focus on the theme of the thing. Not many actually stick to the word count anyway. (SUGGESTED-No more than 500 if you want to try that.)
  • Using the prompt of ‘Use 3 of the following in your writing: Cheese, Ladder, Wart, Bottle, Flower’, WRITE. Enjoy. (REQUIRED)

For proofreading of your work you might check out Grammarly.com. They have a free option to download for Word or that will even work right here in the WordPress Post Editor. It also works in the comments of sites. An additional feature is you can turn Grammarly off and own for each site you visit.

How to do a Ping Back.

What does a Ping Back mean?

For our purposes a Ping is when one website speaks to another website.

How does that conversation take place?

You take the URL from one Blog Post and place within the content of the Blog Post of the other website and make sure it is active/live/working.

What ways can you do a Ping Back?

  1. Make the actual URL active within the post.
  2. Place the URL within a word of a sentence of the content of the post.
  3. Place the URL within an Image of the post.

Numbers 1 and 2 are done the same way.

  1. You highlight whatever it is that you want the reader to click on in order to go to the other post.
  2. You then click on the Insert/edit link Icon.
  3. You place the URL within the Paste URL or type to search field of the pop up box.
  4. You then click the blue box with the white arrow within it.
  5. You are done.
  6. Extra-If you want your link to open in new tab click the Gear next to the blue box with the white arrow and check the box that says Open link in new tab then click Add Link. (Why do this? You don’t really want people to leave your site. So if the link opens in a new tab, they still have your site up and you have a good chance of the reader checking out other things on your site.)

You click the image and then repeat steps 2-5 above.

Why do a Ping Back in the first place?

The Ping Back will appear in the comments of the Post of the other site, letting the owner as well as any other readers aware that you have participated or made some type of comment regarding the post. This will encourage Traffic to your blog.

I ask for people to do a Ping Back in the various challenges I host on my blog. Some blogs receive hundreds of extra visits each year because of doing Ping Backs.

There are URLs that won’t send a real Ping Back to the original Blog.

If you were to use the URL of my Blog’s Home Page or the Category Page of one of my challenges, the reader of your post would be able to click the link and visit me, but I would not receive a Ping Back. If you think about it, it makes sense. There isn’t a comments section on a Category Page nor a normal Home Page.

*Use the 52 Week Photo Challenge hosted by some of our Haiku Challenge friends in unison with the above prompt words. This week’s photo prompt is Check, which works well with our prompt word of ‘Rein’. Click HERE to see the full 52 prompts. And yes, EXTRA can be used with the Haiku words, although I didn’t plan it that way this week.

The Guidelines are simple.

  1. Use the two prompt words in a Haiku. I use Haiku in English  as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above gives you more specifics of a Haiku and other forms of Haiku.
  2. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help. I’ve also included the words at the top of the page.
  3. Copy and paste the URL link of your finished haiku post into a comment here on the challenge post. I then know you did one, and we can all go visit your site to see what you have done. You can also do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link from the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). I honestly gain nothing by more people visiting the post. I don’t have ads running I get paid for by your visit.
  4. Use the Tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge. This will help me find you in case you forget to ping back or leave your URL in the comments.
  5. The Challenge currently BEGINS at 8 AM EST (New York City time) on Mondays. And a DEADLINE is Noon EST (New York City time) on the Sunday following the Challenge Post release.
