*Use the 52 Week Photo Challenge hosted by some of our Haiku Challenge friends in unison with the above prompt words. This week’s photo prompt is Outline. Click HERE to see the full 52 prompts. And yes, EXTRA can be used with the Haiku words, although I didn’t plan it that way this week.

The Guidelines are simple.

  1. Use the two prompt words in a Haiku. I use Haiku in English  as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above gives you more specifics of a Haiku and other forms of Haiku.
  2. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help. I’ve also included the words at the top of the page.
  3. Copy and paste the URL link of your finished haiku post into a comment here on the challenge post. I then know you did one, and we can all go visit your site to see what you have done. You can also do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link from the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). Judy E. Martin, An Author to Know.

Judy Martin at the Laptop!I am thrilled to be here on Ron’s blog to tell you a little about my new book. Firstly, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Judy and I am the blogger behind Edwina’s Episodes. I have only been blogging for just over a year now, but what a year it has been!

Now to back up a bit, I first encountered Ron’s blog through another blogging friend Hugh, who recommended I visit Ron’s blog as it had loads of hints and tips for bloggers, and also he organised this amazing weekly haiku challenge. Now, I didn’t have a clue what a haiku was, but I am always up for a challenge and I loved the ones Hugh submitted, so I popped on over to Ron’s to check it all out.

Well, that was it, once I got my head around the rules (ok I know I break them sometimes), I had a go, and then the inevitable happened and I was hooked on them! Since that first time, I have never missed a week, and in fact, I love it! On a Monday when I get home from work I love, seeing what prompt words he has Judy Martin Authorthought up to torment us with! I don’t know how he finds the time what with helping others improve their own writing, and having just finished writing his own book too! (Book plus not solicited but appreciated!-Ronovan)

As I said, I love a challenge and about two months after I started blogging I took part in NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) which is where, throughout the month of November, those taking part should make sure they write at least one post a day. I completed the challenge, and that set the tone really for me being a prolific poster!

Now, I love mucking around with words, manipulating them and especially making them rhyme. I have done since I was very young, so now and again I would write a poem about whatever took my fancy (I even did an Ode to NaBloPoMo)! I always try to inject a little humour in my poems; having a moan about housework, or bewailing the fact that I don’t have any vices left to give up. I even wrote my own version of Twas the Night before Christmas.’

My blog and my poems are about life in all its glory, warts and all. We all have those rubbish days, events that we want to celebrate, family that mean the world to us, or just times of appreciating the beauty of nature that is all around us: I have a rhyme for each occasion!Rhymes of the Times by Judy E. Martin

I felt it was something others could relate to and enjoy as well, so decided to go ahead and put them all into a book. Chris* designed a fantastic cover for me, vibrant and fun, capturing the tone of my book perfectly.

Why not go and check my book out. It is a wonderful opportunity to take time out, get comfy, have a cuppa and some cake, and really indulge yourself! You never know, you might even have a good old laugh too!

Writers Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – “Romance”

Here is the new challenge I am co-hosting with Colleen on SilverThreading.com. It combines BeWoW and Writer’s Quote Wednesday. We both felt a need to change things up and move forward. Instead of simply stopping all together, we decided to open things up even wider, give people more opportunities to join in and connect. Any kind of talent can be expressed with this challenge. We even include a Theme of the Week if you need inspiration. Or ignore that and do what you like as long as it involves a quote. Join in and have fun! And most of all CREATE!!!

HERE is my entry this week. https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2016/03/09/the-fortunate-one/

First in this week is . . . Lizl Bennefeld. Click through and support her post. For those wondering why she’s showing here as first but not first in the comments . . . I deleted the ping back because she also commented with her link. I like to keep only one link in the comments per entry, that way people are not clicking to the same blog twice. Some get a bit not happy about that and just stop checking out the rest of the entries.

The New #Haiku #Challenge #Review Week 85!

Welcome to the new Haiku Challenge Weekly Review with Ronovan Writes. Brought to you by … The Word of the Week to Live by:

Vitality
plural vi·tal·i·ties
1 a:  the peculiarity distinguishing the living from the nonliving b:  capacity to live and develop; also :  physical or mental vigor especially when highly developed

2 a:  power of enduring b:  lively and animated character

Word of the Week to Live by-Vitality

Narrowing the list down to 10 was a lot more difficult than I imagined. I had it down to about 17, then had to keep going. I think I know why I did all those links for so long.

For all the links, click HERE for the challenge post and the comments. All duplicates have been removed. In other words, if you click one, you won’t visit that same one again as you move through the list. I delete the ping backs of those who leave links in comments for the convenience of readers. The ping backs still work.

“Now, I want to warn you… this is not your typical pirate tale! It’s BETTER!”

The historical descriptions are done smoothly, and flow nicely without being to “teachy”.”

“What I found when I began reading was immediate engrossment in the cleanly written character of Captain Wallace, who is a seafaring man of high rank, with a conscious. That his first person voice is as confessional as it is kept me turning the pages. ”

“I enjoyed meeting the characters, kept turning the pages to see what was happening next …”

Captain Gabriel Wallace is a man with a moral code that is largely unwavering; a confident man who holds himself with pride yet humble. A romantic hero for sure! This is an entirely engaging and enjoyable read!”

My Way From Hell.

The winds fight through memories walls,
Shaking earth and the very foundation falls.
Never does the howling cry release,
The heart relentless to true belief.

Is it the craven mongrel’s hunger,
Seething inside and sounding thunder?
Beating the heart until aching pains,
Thrust through the chambers built for love’s gains.

Phantasms drift through sleeping minds,
Haunting desires of different kinds.
One less stumbling step to take,
Until it’s time for goodness sake.

Pathways higher than others may stand,
Wind blown free from dangerous sand.
Particles of grime to taint the dream,
Will never bring the pure of heart to scream.

Take your wallowed mess of grievous hate,
And keep it for your eternal soul mate.
I have found my way from hell,
Finding love out of my pained shell.

Haiku – The Tight Rope by @Roccoco_a_GoGo

TJ Paris beats out Annette by 3 minutes to be first this week.

tjparis's avatarLife is too short to drink bad wine

numbers on wall (Large) This is a picture of a wall in the now closed Fremantle Prison. Prisoners would be made to line up next to the numbers. The hand painted numbers in the bright summer light had a strangely human quality lacking in the austere buildings that made up this disquieting place.

Stretched like a tight rope

Life, like sun drenched stepping stones

Too warm for comfort

  • Please use the tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge with your posts, if you can remember. That way if links/ping backs don’t work I can find you. I saw about 5 or 6 people used the tag this past week. Unfortunately, they were not the ones that missed linking back to us.
  • Check your links you are using in your posts. Some are not working. If you are like me and like to copy a post from the previous week and just change what’s needed, check the link you may be using that’s built in.

The Guidelines are simple.

  1. Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above has links within it to articles about how to write Haibun, Tanka, and even a new form I created called Freku. You can also do the 3/5/3 form if you likeinstead of the 5/7/5 that I usually use. Write, share, and have fun. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com. (You would be surprised at how many syllables some words actually have.)
  2. The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  3. Use the Tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge. This will help me find you in case you forget to ping back or leave your URL in the comments.
  4. Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link in the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). I honestly gain nothing by more people visiting the post. I don’t have ads running I get paid for by your visit. Click HERE for a detailed article on Ping Backs.
  5. You may copy one of the badges/images appearing in this post below or above and place it on your site if you wish, most normally use it within their post. I am not saying you need to, but if you would like to do so then go ahead. It is simply my way of saying thank you for participating. I sometimes make custom images for the week, if time and health permits.
  6. The Challenge currently BEGINS at 8 AM EST (New York City time) on Mondays. And a DEADLINE is Noon EST (New York City time) on the Sunday following the Challenge Post release.
  7. Are you interested in having your Haiku entry included in our FREE eBook Project? Click HERE to find out more.

Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge Image 2016

RonovanWrites 83rd #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry #Links

Comments are bit skimpy this week. With the book launch of today for Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling now live on Kindle as well as Paperback, I may be able to get back in the swing of things. But after only links last week I felt I needed to get back to a normal review this week. Not that I ever am normal in anything I do.

If an author does not have a comment, as do the entries, that means they did not have an entry this week, but I left their place here. Is it for the benefit of advertising their work? No, it is for the ease of my formatting their next entry in the challenge. It’s a bear to do those. (And maybe there is a little heart felt type thing I have for authors.)

Well, you’ll notice the sad state of the Review this week. The reason? A father practicing a rousing game of catch before the upcoming baseball tryouts with his son. A very HARD thrown ball hitting of the glove reaching across the body … from that point onward, it is not certain if the ball went directly into my eye or hit a fence then went into my eye. However, reading is difficult and holding an ice-pack on the eye makes typing difficult. But two awesome things … 1) My son can throw one heck of a fast ball, and 2) All I yelled out was a yell and a Oh Gosh. I was quite proud of myself that my habit of no use of profanity in my language usage came through in that moment. My son was happy too, after he was assured I would survive.

I thank all of you again, for understanding that I normally save my comments for the review and not always on your blog post. I am attempting to work toward doing both, but I forget sometimes.

To the Stars-Robots on the Loose! #Photography

Not long ago I was doing some photo shooting of a sight that occurs in my Southern Romance. I wanted some pictures I could use to capture the true imagery of the place. I love old tin toys that really do work. So does my son. He passed this one up because he had a specific toy in mind he wanted on this trip. I was going to enter this in a photo challenge of one of my friends but I was a bit too late. Instead I think it fits well for Throw Back Thursday type post.

Tin Toys of the type I’m talking about came into being around the middle of the 1800s from Germany. Original Tin Robots are some of the most sought after. Obviously this is not one of those. Click HERE for a great article about the history of Tin Toys on a site I found.

The photo was taken with my little LG phone.

If this guy is around the next time I make it through there, I think he’ll be coming home with me.

The stars the limit,

When you are wound up too tight,

Children push buttons.
