The 26th Haiku Prompt Challenge!

Haiku is simple and simply addictive. So be warned now. Once you start it’s difficult to stop. Here are two things to know:

Haiku can be broken into two sentences with the middle line of the three lines being the commonly used part, meaning 1&2 and 2&3 making sentences. That’s Haiku.
Opposite meanings in the first and last sentences. That’s Haiku.

For a full refresher or How to write Haiku in English click here. But you can use whatever Haiku style you want to. As long as you, do a Haiku.

This weeks two words to use in some form, meaning you can use another word that means the same thing are:

Empty&Bedlam

The source of the prompts came as I closed my eyes and basically asked God for words. Nothing came to mind. “Empty”. I typed the word and closed my eyes again. There were noises everywhere and dozens of images bombarding my mind at once. “Bedlam”.

My Example

With an empty bed,

He sleeps little and smiles less,

With bedlam his Mind.

Really each Haiku is a choice of mine, and I’m not just saying that, so I feel a bit odd even having something called A RONOVAN’S CHOICE, but hey, it’s a thing, right? And it does make it kind of fun.

I am seriously excited about this new direction the challenge is taking. Some great people involved have made suggestions and I have listened. I have looked at the great photography of everyone and decided I limited people in what they could do. Then one suggested the name PhotoKu, or at least I think they did. Now one said why not give a verb and a noun as the challenge instead of two nouns. In all honesty I didn’t even realize I had started doing that.

The rules are simple: For how to write a Haiku in English and using the 5/7/5 syllable pattern click here. I know you will be using photography but you need to have the Haiku in words at some point.

I prefer no words or numbers of any kind to appear in the images you use. This includes sign language . . . of any kind. I believe this forces one to be more creative.

Below is my original example of how to do a haiku with images. People have become a lot more creative with using their photography. This is just to show you a basic layout and give you an idea of how things might look. Check out our previous participants to see how it’s really done.

I know, not the best but it was better then the first one I posted.

You create your own PhotoKu before Noon on the Sunday following the posting of this challenge,
Then either post a link in the comments here for everyone that visits to go see and/or ping back (copy the URL for this post into your Haiku post) to this post in your Haiku post.

I will read it and comment on it. Once I comment come get the badge.

24th Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge ReCap!

Two A RONOVAN’S CHOICE! Haiku recipients are chosen each week. One for Humor and one for a more Serious tone. Proper structure may become a big decider at times. By structure I mean the 1&2 and 2&3 verses making sentences. But the message, as you all know is always what is more important to me in this challenge. The problem? There are so many great messages that I have to use something. So now, my job just has become more difficult. Let the games begin. May your days be long but your poems be short.

New this Week!

Caseylove’s: Innocence in Question. I liked this because the photo used sets it up so nicely. I can just imagine this perfectly. From the about.me page–I have recently developed an interest in photography. I don’t know what has sparked this but the interest is there so I’m in pursuit of loving an appreciating this art.
I also have the love for writing although I’m far from perfect and I’m no Stephen King this is my passion as well.–@caseyandjojo

Sue Vincent of Daily Echo: Frosted. A Haiku that takes one a few minutes to think about and come to a meaning for one’s self. I finally came to mine. Sue and I have been Twitter friends for a while now but haven’t really connected and I am so happy she participated this week. Now I must find a way to get one of her books. Being a historian myself, some of the books she has out are very appealing. (Anyone see me asking for an interview soon?) From her About Page-I am a Yorkshire born painter and writer, living in the south of England. I paint the strange things that come as images in dreams and fantasies and write about life as it happens.
I was raised in a spiritually eclectic family in a landscape where myths and legends were woven into the stones, and have always had an intimate relationship with the inner worlds and the understanding that all paths are but spokes on a wheel, leading ultimately to the same centre. Cindy of Dreams in Alaska: Imprisoned by Ironies. Yes, that’s my title for this entry. It’s a message that one can apply to so many different situations of life. This last minute entry makes my decision for Serious Haiku much more difficult. Want to know where Cindy is from? Really? Seriously? I am so not going to answer that. From her About page–I’m a busy worker bee by day, while juggling the responsibilities of being a full-time student and aspiring writer by night. As a recent empty nester, I’m learning to enjoy the sounds of silence as I set my sites on the next chapter of life.–@cindyburrill

Who’s On First?
Mira of They, You and Me: The Faint Hearted. A great commentary on the world. Very true and very sad. The poem is not a sad poem but once you begin reflecting on it you go places that might bring sadness. A must read to make you think. @BediMona

Ruth of Mad Meandering Me: Peshawar. I support the message of the Haiku this week. It’s difficult to say you like something considering the subject. But things must be felt and let out. A said thing that this poem had a subject to be created.

T.A. Wyatt of Finale to an Entrance: Reality: The Beaten Down Haiku. It’s a shame that this poem is true. Remember to check out this author’s books at Amazon. @finaletoanEntranc

Elizabeth of Tea & Paper: Seasons. Hmm. Oh these reality messages. A couple of interpretations came to mind but I chose to go with the less somber one, well at least I think I did.

Canaf of Faithful Devotionals: Innocence Lost. Another good message. You should go and read the About page, a very interesting story to me. And I like this that I found on the site. “I Get by with a little help from my friends and a lot of help from God.”

Faith Unlocked: Innocence Restored. Very appropriate for the Holiday. Good definition for Innocence. I liked that for sure. Very good staying with theme of blog. @FaithUnlocked

Melissa of This, Right Now: Growth. You must read this one. Not only a great Haiku but visually the way it graduates is excellent. I love it when things turn out like that.

Nato of Chasing Life and Finding Dreams: Innocence of a Child. Hmm. Great structure. Good story. Sad ending. I think I might be depressed now. Things growing dim. Sigh. Wait, I felt like that before reading the Haiku. 🙂 Gotcha. @MichelleLunato

Colleen of Silver Threading: The First Queen. The name says it all. Well, maybe not all, you still need to go read to see exactly what it’s all about. I mean it’s not like the whole play is about a tragic death scene, right? @ColleenChesebro

23rd Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge ReCap!

Another reminder is to follow the members of our little community here on their sites and Twitter. Show and share the love, right? Are you following our friends here? I include links to their sites and Twitters if they have them.

Moving Forward there will be Two A RONOVAN’S CHOICE! Haiku recipients each week. One for Humor and one for more Serious. It was brought to my attention that perhaps if I were giving it to everyone then why even bother. And in truth for those of you who remember I used to choose category recipients early on I suppose this makes sense. Proper structure may become a big decider at times. By structure I mean the 1&2 and 2&3 verses making sentences. But the message, as you all know is always what is more important to me in this challenge. The problem? There are so many great messages that I have to use something. So now, my job just got more difficult. Let the games begin. May your days be long but your poems be short.

Two New this Week!

January’s Dreamer: When Christmas Comes. Nice Haiku with a great image to go with the words. Excellent. From the site About Page–Until that Day of resurrection when Christ Jesus returns,¹ a Christian is called to be as “a letter from Christ . . . written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”²

Like this site, I’m a work-in-progress, but by God’s grace, He’s still editing.

I am a mother of 3 who is having a bit of a crisis in my life with my emotions…thought that I would work though some of my awkwardness here and hopefully have a moment of epiphany. I love to take photos, although I am not a pro, I do feel that they help me in ways I cannot describe.
My family just gave me my first “Real” camera which I must say, aside from my family, is the best gift I have ever received! Bear with me as I learn how to use it and hopefully capture whatever it is that I am searching for. It looks like it’s going to be a fun, enlightening experience! Carolyn of Reviews & Recommendations: CAughT unware. On my LWI site I put out a three things I would buy for Christmas as an Author. On JensPenDen I put out 5 Free things for Authors for Christmas. Carolyn just gave me an idea for another one for the wish list for Authors.

Claudette of to search and find happiness in every day: Filter. Very good message. I am still surprised where the ideas take people with the prompts. I always think it is telling of the type of soul a person has.

The rules are simple: For how to write a Haiku in English and using the 5/7/5 syllable pattern click here. I know you will be using photography but you need to have the Haiku in words at some point.

I prefer no words or numbers of any kind to appear in the images you use. This includes sign language . . . of any kind. I believe this forces one to be more creative.

The 22nd Haiku Prompt Challenge!

Badge provided by Me for this season.

Haiku is simple and simply addictive. So be warned now. Once you start it’s difficult to stop. Here are two things to know:

Haiku can be broken into two sentences with the middle line of the three lines being the commonly used part, meaning 1&2 and 2&3 making sentences
Opposite meanings in the first and last sentences.

For a full refresher or How to write Haiku in English click here. But you can use whatever Haiku style you want to. As long as you, do a Haiku.

This weeks two words to use in some form, meaning you can use another word that means the same thing are:

There are TWO “A RONOVAN’S CHOICE!” recipients each week. One for Humor and one for something more Serious. The Haiku are quite good each week and I am having to turn to the structure guidelines of a Haiku at times to help determine my selection.

Really each Haiku is a choice of mine, and I’m not just saying that, so I feel a bit odd even having something called A RONOVAN’S CHOICE, but hey, it’s a thing, right? And it does make it kind of fun.

You all know me, I can’t just have one thought about anything. I’ll say this but I want you all to go read, when broken down into two sentences as a Haiku should be, meaning lines 1&2 and then 2&3, this is actually a very positive outlook of a Haiku. Very impressive. This last minute entry makes for a much more difficult decision. @BWseekingBL

Two Haiku had similar messages but when it came down to it there was just something about my interpretation of the two sentences formed by the Haiku For My Beautiful Cousin from Battered Wife seeking Better Life that hit me in many ways. A very powerful Haiku in my opinion.

There is a third A RONOVAN’S CHOICE this week and that’s for Inspirational. Faith Unlocked with Grace’s POV.

I of course gave my own offering up this week, a last minute one that I had wanted to be a romantic one but as often happens with me turned out something else. My Revenge.

Something to keep in mind about a Haiku. Usually it is elemental in nature, but I don’t stick to that. There are two things I do like to see and they are; 1) Haiku that can be broken into two sentences with the middle line of the three lines being the commonly used part and 2) Opposite meanings in the first and last sentences.

Before you start!

I have links that will help you out. Remember for Haiku in English the total syllables are 5 for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the last. I don’t really hold people to that for this but if you want to do it in the 5/7/5 manner, the traditional way, then try that. One link I have for you is . . . howmanysyllables.com. Simply type in the word and find out how many syllables it has. Also for synonyms and antonyms go to thesaurus.com, I find it useful for finding a word to fit the meaning when syllables are not working out right.

This weeks two words to use in some form, meaning you can use another word that means the same thing are:

You might notice the new badge I created for A RONOVAN’S CHOICE! Haiku recipients. For those selected they can add this to their Haiku post if they like. It’s entirely up to them but I saw someone had created something to let people know they had received that selection and thought I should at least put forth the effort. I just never thought anyone would think that much of it.

I of course gave my own offering up this week. Although I put forth an example each week with the challenge I feel as though I need to also put out another, this one I called Truth buried deep within. This was more of a series of Haiku in story form. It is called Renga. I haven’t delved into a challenge for that but you can use that if you wish for the Haiku Prompt Challenge.

I prefer no words or numbers of any kind to appear in the images you use. This includes sign language . . . of any kind. I believe this forces one to be more creative.

Heartbeats Stumble, falling in

Love Infinity

I know, not the best but it was better then the first one I posted.
