Here’s a guest post I did on a blog that leans toward enjoying the romantical. Make sure you check it out. Vanessa asked me to provide a post and I read her blog to see what might be of interest, just as I mentioned you should do in another guest post on my blog tour. I thought how I went about, and the thought process behind, the creation of Captain Gabriel Wallace would make a good guest post.

Fellow Bloggers Publish Book
Our friend Nato asked me a few questions for my book blog tour. Check her out. I mean the interview people! Geesh.
What do you get when you mix a handsome virile sailor with the seductively beautiful wife of an admiral? You get an intense barroom brawl that ends in murder, and that’s only the first chapter! What happens in the second chapter? I can’t say. Well, not yet.
That’s because the book, Amber Wake-Gabriel Falling, just came out yesterday. The interesting thing about the book, well outside of the sex, lies and murder, is that it was written by fellow bloggers, P.S. Bartlett and Ronovan Hester.
One of my blog ideas for this year was to expand into doing interviews. And with the publishing of a new book, I knew I needed to start with Ronovan. As a fairly new blogger, I stumbled upon Ronovan’s blog in late 2014. For over 82 weeks now, he has been hosting a weekly Haiku Challenge. I can’t say I had really written many…

Moments of Challenge.
As you all know, I don’t participate in may of the various pass it on blog things. You know, as in ‘do this and then have people do the same thing.’ One I don’t mind doing is the Three Quote Challenge. I’ve done it once before and I’ve been asked to do so again.
Susan Langer has asked me to join in this time. Many of you know Susan from her blog Susan’s Personal Blog where she enjoys doing various challenges and offers services to help other bloggers and writers.

Lately, life seems to be throwing things my way to challenge me in my writing life.
- Where is the time for it?
- Do I take short cuts?
- Do I resort to the tricks and gimmicks to make things more successful?
- Do I devote even more time to blogging and writing than I do now?
- Do I compromise my beliefs and character for gain?
Those moments of challenge may come at you from any direction. Asaph was talking about looking around and see people of less than respectable practices seemingly prospering while those who lived on the straight and narrow path struggled.
Eventually, he figured it out. Although we see a visage of prosperity for a time in this person, in the long run, those who follow the right path, the right decisions will be more satisfied and happier because of how they have achieved what they have, and because of where they end up. We know we have not burned bridges or broken lives along the way. Our conscious and heart are clear.

I was led to my author today by a man named Martin Gabel, an award winning stage actor from the mid 20th Century. I’m not positive the quote I went looking for was correct, but I ended up in some great ones anyway.
W. Somerset Maugham was a British writer who wrote in just about every form you could at the time: Plays, Novels, Short Stories. He served in the Red Cross during WWI and was recruited into the British Secret Service in 1916.
The man’s views on writing are solid. Other aspects of life are a bit more fragile. Due to the time he lived in there were secrets he kept and veils he hid behind that could only do damage to the man within. I’m giving you today his thoughts about writing with a few thrown in that influence you as a writer

Howdy Y’all,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I hope not to be doing a ton of book promotion here on my blog site. I do have a responsibility to do everything in my abilities to help make this book successful. When you have a co-author, it isn’t all about you. PS Bartlett and I both agree we do this for the joy of writing and the knowledge that people are reading and enjoying our book. If all we make is the cost of doing the book, okay. (Sure, we want it to be a top seller, but as long as you aren’t losing money on something and doing what you love, you can breathe a little deeper.)
A lot of what I’ll be sharing are blogs I am doing on other sites as a guest. Some of these are How To articles we can all use. I enjoyed doing them because they made me walk through the process and thus see it more clearly myself.
I’ll keep mixing in the usual, and hopefully some unusual. Look for a special interviewer that will be popping in to interview me about the book. Don’t worry, I think you’ll enjoy it. He’s not your everyday ordinary type of interviewer.
I have been getting a good deal of praise for my storytelling and character development from those who have read the book. I’m going to be honest here, I worked hard and I am proud of those words of encouragement in the reviews. One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is how well PS Bartlett did in coming in behind me, once I completed the initial drafts, yes I said drafts, I did so many that I lost count, all in about 5 weeks, but Blonde Bartlett the Sea Siren took what I did and was able to give it her touches, tighten it up where needed, and add the appropriate ship and pirate jargon required while keeping the book a fairly smooth read. Okay, so I did throw in one heck of a storm in there that wasn’t so smooth for poor old Captain Gabriel Wallace, but it served its purpose. So here now I say thank you to Bartlett for depending on and trusting in me to create a story and characters that end up playing such an important part in her world of pirates. I thank you for giving me free rein to do all I wanted to do and more.

The Guidelines are simple.
- Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above has links within it to articles about how to write Haibun, Tanka, and even a new form I created called Freku. You can also do the 3/5/3 form if you likeinstead of the 5/7/5 that I usually use. Write, share, and have fun. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com. (You would be surprised at how many syllables some words actually have.)
- The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
- Use the Tag of Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge. This will help me find you in case you forget to ping back or leave your URL in the comments.
- Copy the link of your finished haiku URL in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). The Why
Why did I co-author a Historical Adventure novel as my first published novel? I’m insane, okay, only a little. All the tests aren’t back. Those that really know me know how close to true those previous sentences are.
After I readThe Blue Diamond: The Razor’s Edgeby PS Bartlett, she and I began to talk a lot about writing and book promotion. In my opinion her book was not receiving the push it deserved, but not every book does. The idea for a sequel came up and then prequel’s to generate more interest for The Blue Diamond, a fantastic book or I wouldn’t be here talking to you right now. There was one character we decided needed his own story before the sequel, and he would be great for me to write.

FRIDAY FICTION with RONOVAN WRITES
With decades of writing behind me and daily learning of how to be a better writer, and by daily, I do mean constant, I wanted to give a way for current friends and future finders of this blog a way to push themselves to improve as well.
Through this challenge my hopes are you will:
- Find your voice
- Step out of comfort zones to discover a genre where your talent truly lies
- Perhaps make connections that will help you become a better writer
DEADLINE IS:
23:59 EST (New York Time) Wednesday. I will then have Thursday to complete reading the entries and compiling the links and such. I do read all entries. You can ask any of my Haiku Challenge family/community members.
I DO ASK THAT YOU:
- Keep it PG as all ages do follow the blog and may click through and read the entries. (C0ntinue for exceptions.)
- If you do write a piece of fiction that goes past the PG level, copy the link into the comments of this post and make a note of it being such and give the reasons you think it is, such as violence, sexual content, language/profanity.
- No violence toward children by adults or predatory aspects toward children. I know you may have two kids have a fight. I get that, but I don’t want gratuitous violence such as glorifying bullying. Also I can see you having a kid kicking some bad guy in the face for some reason. I get it.
- No sexual assault against anyone.

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #12 Entries: THE #LINKS
Thank you to those who do participate and appreciate those of us who put the effort in each week to come up with prompts, read them all, comment, collect links, and post them to share with our readers and friends.
A Must Read designation does NOT mean an entry is necessarily better than the other entries. It means that entry clicked with me in some way in that moment I read it.
The order appearing is the order in which the entry was received.
GL below stands for the reading Grade Level. Harry Potter is a GL of around 5. Tolkien is around GL 6.5. Passive Sentence percentage is included as Active Sentences are considered the preferred form of writing by most editors and publishers. Active moves the story along. Passive is not always bad. Sometimes a story works that way, perhaps through the language of a person or the type of story. Even then, keep the percentage low.
The Prompt for the Challenge was:
February 5th is National Wear Red Day, or Shower With a Friend Day. There are much more serious International Days the 5th is set aside for, but the challenge at this point in its growth is not a place to explore those quite yet. Although I’m not stopping anyone. If you know of another National/International Day you want to write about this week, go for it.

- Some great stories were written last week. Continue those stories this week! (SUGGESTED)

You discover a quote in the oddest of places. Bret “The Hitman” Hart is a former professional wrestler and author from Canada. He rose to fame in what is now known as the WWE. He was around during and after the time of the likes of Hulk Hogan and Randy “The Macho Man” Savage. He was even chosen by Andre the Giant to wrestle the headline match on a stop of a European tour. This was a sign of respect by the big man.
Recently Hart announced he was battling prostate cancer. He’s had a lot of hard knocks over the past decade or two. His brother, Owen, died in the wrestling ring from a, I’ll just go ahead and say it, stupid gimmick stunt used to give the fans a thrill in the WWE. It wasn’t his brother’s idea. Then he suffers a stroke. Now this. In his announcement he said the following.
Mark Helprin wrote: “We are all perfect clocks that Divinity has set to ticking when, even before birth, the heart explodes into a lifelong dance.” I’ve had a great lifelong dance and I’m a survivor of many hard battles.-Bret Hart.
Of course, I had to go find out who Mark Helprin is. He’s a writer born in Manhattan into an entertainment family. Now he lives on a large farm that he actually works himself.
One thing that brought attention to Helprin was his stance on copyrights of an author. Pretty much he believes it should extend as far as Congress can make it go. Apparently, bloggers hit back at him for this. I’m wondering exactly what his wording was, or who these bloggers were. Even I, as a blogger, want my work protected, whatever work there may be.
The quote is a bit out there in some part. It comes from the book Memoir from Antproof Case. A book with a 3.97 rating on Goodreads out of over 2,ooo reviews. The book sounds like it covers every possible experience wrapped up in one man’s life.
It just goes to show you not to stereotype people. Bret Hart delivered this quote to a ton of people. Lots of us grew up watching him. He’s a legend of the wrestling entertainment industry, and not because he had a loud mouth or wild character. He could actually wrestler and do his job.
