Thanks, a warning, and Wednesday is Coming.

Howdy Y’all,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I hope not to be doing a ton of book promotion here on my blog site. I do have a responsibility to do everything in my abilities to help make this book successful. When you have a co-author, it isn’t all about you. PS Bartlett and I both agree we do this for the joy of writing and the knowledge that people are reading and enjoying our book. If all we make is the cost of doing the book, okay. (Sure, we want it to be a top seller, but as long as you aren’t losing money on something and doing what you love, you can breathe a little deeper.)

A lot of what I’ll be sharing are blogs I am doing on other sites as a guest. Some of these are How To articles we can all use. I enjoyed doing them because they made me walk through the process and thus see it more clearly myself.

I’ll keep mixing in the usual, and hopefully some unusual. Look for a special interviewer that will be popping in to interview me about the book. Don’t worry, I think you’ll enjoy it. He’s not your everyday ordinary type of interviewer.

I have been getting a good deal of praise for my storytelling and character development from those who have read the book. I’m going to be honest here, I worked hard and I am proud of those words of encouragement in the reviews. One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is how well PS Bartlett did in coming in behind me, once I completed the initial drafts, yes I said drafts, I did so many that I lost count, all in about 5 weeks, but Blonde Bartlett the Sea Siren took what I did and was able to give it her touches, tighten it up where needed, and add the appropriate ship and pirate jargon required while keeping the book a fairly smooth read. Okay, so I did throw in one heck of a storm in there that wasn’t so smooth for poor old Captain Gabriel Wallace, but it served its purpose. So here now I say thank you to Bartlett for depending on and trusting in me to create a story and characters that end up playing such an important part in her world of pirates. I thank you for giving me free rein to do all I wanted to do and more.

If you enjoy the cover of Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling, Bartlett is the creator thereof, and is beginning to work as a book cover creator for other authors. You can contact her through her site if you wish. PSBartlett.me

For those of you have purchased my book, thank you so much. Some of you have mentioned it, only as a way of showing your support. I know you are not mentioning it to point out you purchased it. I can’t think of a single one of the people that speak up, read, or participate here on RW that does anything to gain attention for the self. We are truly a big happy family of bloggers from all over the world.

If you do read the book and like it, please put up a review on Amazon. If you don’t like it, I sincerely ask you to email me submit your opinions and concerns through my Contact Form on my About Page. I may not take your advice, but I will take it into consideration.

Also if you do purchase the book, if you’ll take your photo with it, either up on your Kindle or with the paperback and email the photo to me at ronovanwrites (at) gmail (dot) com, I would like to share it with everyone, maybe on a page of my author site or something like that. If you don’t, don’t worry about it. This is just an idea I got while I was writing this. I am a bit random at times.

Much Respect

BeWoW and Writer's Quote Wednesday

Remember Wednesday is Writer’s Quote Wednesday on SilverThreading.com with Colleen Chesebro and #BeWoW here on RW. I combine the two by coming up with a positive quote or series of quotes to share about a person who has done something good in the world or been a positive influence. #BeWoW stands for Be Writing on Wednesday to Be Wonderful on Wednesday. A day of sharing positivity instead of negativity. Colleen and I each share a post, and all you do is either paste your link in our comments, or link back to our posts. With mine, you tweet with the Hashtag of #BeWoW and people should RT your tweets.

Below is the link back to my post for Wednesday.

Let a moment just be a moment.

I have been suffering a very bad migraine the past couple of days. Early this morning, not able to sleep, I decided to try a little meditation. I actually try various things to bring myself into a more positive mindset. No, I am not part of the mindfulness group. I haven’t done any research on it as of yet, as I am writing my own thoughts about some things first, and would rather they not be influenced at their base level.

As I meditated, my mind drifted. No surprise there. During meditation I was focusing on the breaths and the rising and falling of the body with each one. I focused on simply existing in that moment. That’s when the thought of positive and negative as not existing in the moment of being came to me. A moment does not acquire a label until we assign one to it. And that moment is gone before we can even give it a name.

I thought about why people can be so confused and depressed about things. A chain of moments are made up of what people would call both positive and negative moments. Our minds have difficulty processing what we think of as negative also having positive moments within it. But perhaps it is the labels that are the problem. Perhaps that moment is not a positive but not a negative either. Perhaps the moment simply is.

If you want to look at being positive as being without negatives, then try simply being. No, it won’t always work out that way, but it will a lot more often than you realize. We label things way too much. A glass breaks, and we get upset. Why? It’s a broken glass. It’s not a broken person. Perhaps it was an antique or had special memories attached to it. Yet, it is a glass. Don’t let a broken glass spiral you into something you can’t get yourself out of.

Sounds a little over the top? How many of you have found someone crying over something broken? You think the person is being a little silly about it, you just don’t quite understand even though you try. But that person labeled moments attached to those items.

Work on simply being, existing in the moment. Let a moment just be a moment.

Much Love, Success, and Respect

The secret to a positive day.

I wanted to do a Throwback Thursday Post, but I have so many I found it difficult to sort through them all to find one to share again. I did find this one in my folders on my computer. I didn’t find it in my posts and thought why not share it now. This is a favorite topic of mine.

How do you start your day? Yeah, I know, we all hit the bathroom first usually, but let’s say everything is set and good to go, what do you do?

More than likely you are beginning your day the wrong way. The way you start your day has an impact on the way you live your day.

“Bull, Ronovan. Other people dictate my day!”

I don’t want to hear it. When I wake up in the morning, I am the one in control of my thoughts and actions. I am actually in control of my reactions the entire day. If I begin with a positive and centered self, a truly focused self, then I can be positive in my interactions for the day and stay positive throughout the day.

If you don’t start out focused then you are simply reacting the rest of the day and often times with negative emotions attached.

“So how do we do this, oh great and wise Ronovan?”

Yes I hear the sarcasm in the voice.

It’s different for everyone.

What get’s you calm and focused?

Here are examples:

Mediation

Prayer or Reading the Bible

Exercise

A cup of coffee and:

  • watching the sun rise
  • reading the newspaper
  • listening to music
  • looking at the birds in the bird feeder
  • reading the next chapter in a book

Listening to podcasts, music, or talk radio

Mentally going through a checklist of your day

Just knowing what you have planned for the day, even if a routine day, makes it easier on you.

Beginning your preparation for the day the night before can help

I like having my clothes ready, and an idea of what my breakfast will be and if I am needing to prepare a lunch or not. I like to think about people I will come into contact with, that I know about, and if I have an appointment and be mentally ready for that.

There are little things we can do to take care of the parts of life that are in our control, so why not do it? If I can start my day off calmly then I am not beginning it running around already hectic and in a bad mood then that’s a great start.

There are numerous ways to become calm and centered for the beginning of your day. The point is to do it.

I have had to take control of my life more lately. Even being in the physical and mental state I am in, my life is hectic with two blogs running and basically life in general. I have felt life crashing lately, with the crashing even seeping into my writing, so I have taken control of it to the extreme for the moment. Do you know what happens to your life if you are not in control of it? If you don’t start yourself off focused? You lose it, and you could lose your friends. Before that happens I decided to refocus, like I once did, every day. I am prioritizing and organizing.

Some people may not understand it, as it’s difficult to explain, but I am fine with that. This is me, the most important person in my life. I am the most important me in the life of the people I know. I want to be here for both them and me for a long time.

Here is a quote from an ancestor of mine.

prepared

Looking at this post I wrote back in September of last year, it seems I need to once again refocus. I’ve lost a lot lately. And I lose more every single day. I received an email, an understanding email from someone, then they stopped following me on Twitter. Not certain I understand that, but I am coming to terms with something. I don’t have to understand everything. The best thing I can do is try to understand me and what I am about to do, whatever that may be at the time.

Preparation. Starting my day off the right way. It’s not only the secret to a positive day, it’s the secret to a positive life, a successful life. A successful life? That’s for another post.

Much Respect

Learn about her book and about being Positive. Helen Woo.

Being positive is something that’s contagious. One lady that is always positive is Annette Rochelle Aben, author and Radio Show personality. You might know Annette as being one of  the Global Voices of Social Media: 25 Women Share Stories of Strength, Love and Triumph currently ranked #5 on the Best Seller list but reached #1 in less than a day on Amazon. I bought it and reviewed in on Amazon already. Positivity is all through the book. I met Annette through various ways and was interviewed on one of her radio programs. Yes, one of them. She has two different shows. Actually three.

On Tuesday, February 3 I received my email notice that in 5 minutes her show was coming on and of course I logged in.

Talk about something that just made it all happen. Helen discussed her book Self-Aid: Inspiration to Turn Struggles Into Success. It’s all about the positive. A lot of what she said is exactly what I have been saying here the past few weeks. Of course she has a lot more to say. Check our her site, her book, and everything else she has to offer. Go to her link above and read about her. She’s got a great story to tell.

Get Positive: Sorting Your Junk.

People comment often wondering how I stay positive, how I keep doing all I do in the face of what I live with. How can I stay positive through the life I have been given?

Practice. I know that sounds a little odd but as with anything in your life practice needs to happen. I didn’t just wake up and say, I’m good. Okay, perhaps I did, but then I had to do something about it. And by ‘I’m good’ I mean I was not letting my health issues control every aspect of my life.

Deciding to change does have an instant affect. Your view of things does change. You actually begin to see MORE of the negative things of the world. But you have to learn what to do about that view. And that’s where the practice comes in.

You will change but those around you may still be those negative and less than wonderful thinking people. Therefore you need to strengthen your positive muscle.

To begin with you as you go through your day you file things into mental folders.

  • Awesome
  • Needs Work
  • So Not Worth It

You can add as many folders as you need to, but those are three that are useful. Awesome and Needs Work are fairly simple to be positive through. But how about the So Not Worth It moments? This SNWI mental folder is where you put those things that happen that are basically useless uses of oxygen. Unfortunately. most of what you experience each day will fall in to that folder. At least it will until you realize you can do something about those moments.

You will instantly recognize them and not dwell on them. They might be insults at you or your favorite celebrity. But insults are words that people use who have nothing else going for them. Insecurities are a bear to live with. And bears lash out at times.

Just let it flow. Let it flow past you, let it flow in to that mental So Not Worth It folder. You have better things to do with your mental energy.

And let me tell you, mental energy exists. Don’t believe me? Think of the first crush you had and the devastation after your heart was broken. How exhausted were you? Were you so tired you thought you had the flu? That’s mental/emotional energy that is drained from you by these positivity vampires. That drain can get you down and keep you down. Avoid it at all cost.

Once you recognize things for what they really are you can then keep them from affecting you.

Start today by being positive with yourself and not LET others affect you. Is it easy? No. Will you achieve it in one day? No. Is that being positive? Yes. I’m positive you won’t be 100% positive in your first day of trying. Humor? No.

I can tell you what helps me, but you need to find what helps you. You need that go to that place in your mind that will make things okay for you. Is it a vacation spot, a favorite book, a TV show? Are you writing a book? Work on that in your mind each time something comes up. When that negative hits, think of that positive place. Eventually you will be able to process the negativity and turn it around. But that’s for a future discussion. For today, find that positive place for yourself and practice going there. Don’t ALLOW other people to CONTROL YOU.

The road to positivity begins today.

Share and Reblog if you wish.

My Sunday Thought: Why Worry?

I wrote a long post for today about Depression. I even listed all of my medical problems to help people understand reasons why things can get the way they do for me at times. I created an image for it. Put about 15 links to other sites in it and scheduled it.

It’s in the Trash folder now.

Yes, it would have been useful for some. People need to know that other people go through the same things and come out the other side just fine. Look at me, right? Mr. Positive. I have been called that more times than I can count on one finger. Okay, so yeah, I’ve been called that a lot.

But you know what? Why not be Positive? Life can throw you a big old load of Suck sometimes. Wallow in it for a while and then jump out and move on. Yeah, I said wallow in it. Acknowledge that it is there. Don’t deny it to yourself. Sure, deny it to everyone else. But admit it to yourself. I have a saying about when I am in a bout of depression, “As long as I know I am depressed then I’m okay, it’s when I don’t know that I am depressed that people should start to worry.”

How do I stay positive through all the crap life throws my way?

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”~Philippians 4:4-7

Yeah, it doesn’t say there is an exception to the rule, does it? Nope. You’ve heard ‘Give it to God’ before. Well there you go and there it is. But take all of his passage in. “And the peace of God . . . will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” But you need to remember that. Don’t just read it, but remember it and live it.

I hope each of you have a great week ahead of you. No matter what comes your way think of these verses. For some of you out there you are probably thinking, “But, Ronovan, I don’t believe in God.” Well, let me ask you this, what good does it do for you to be anxious about things all the time, to worry all the time?

I may post the other Sunday Thought another day, but for today, be positive.

Be seeing y’all around,
