Sweet Peach Tree.

Run to the sweet peach tree
Run to the sweet peach tree
Oh
You and me
Oh
You and me
Let them see
That it’s you and me
Oh
Run to the sweet peach tree
Oh run to the sweet peach tree
My heart runs and flees
From the broken dream
To your sweet peach tree.

Sweet Peach Tree poem by Ronovan Hester

“Peach blossom – luck
peach fruit – long life, association of immortality, divine fruit of gods
The peach of immortality in Chinese mythology (蟠桃; pántáo) can make people perpetually young.
peach petals – state of intense trance of love
peach tree – longevity
peach wood – ward off evil
The sacred tree of immortality is a peach tree. In Chinese Taoist mythology, the peach of immortality grew in the garden of Hsi wang mu (Chinese: 西王母; pinyin: Xīwángmǔ; “Queen Mother of the West”). When the fruit ripened every 3,000 years, the event was celebrated by a sumptuous banquet attended by the “Eight Immortals”.” Information courtesy of www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/Chinese_Customs/flowers_symbolism.htm

Now you know.

Slippin’ into sideways single again, thinkin’ I know what’s the best thing for my friend.
Never seein’ I’m the one playin’ a fool, keep trippin’ into a funk deeper than a city cesspool.
Do you ever think you want your own time, oh but you keep missin’ when she’s out of your line?
Then you look into her eyes, her heart and you play it off like a chump, thinkin’ you’re so cool.

Love’s not a playground for the child or the immature clown painted on society’s scripted scene.
Expectations of your world can bring you down to your knees and shatter your deepest dreams.
Where do you go from here when all you know is the beaten down lovers lost melody hit machine?
Words rhymed and bought to break your heart and rip your pockets for every cent at the seams?

Fill your heart, feel the steam.
Let it flow,
She’s in your bloodstream,
You’re not alone,
Now you know.

Feel her love, feel her deep,
Intense and low,
You’re denied peace in sleep,
You’re addicted,
And now you know.

Now you know.

Oh. Oh.

Slippin’ sheets across sensations of last nights slumbered distress.
Comin’ to an end of your sweet dreams of silk and a whole lot less.
Is it a wonder you haven’t been in the pop culture extreme obscene?
Lipstick and perfumed skinned is all you need confess.

Tender kisses with restrained passion desires.
Pressin’ into her flesh, flames the fires hotter and hotter.
Openin’ my eyes will send my despair even higher.
Seconds slip by, throat’s so dry, needin’ her lips like life givin’ water.

Fill your heart, feel the steam.
Let it flow,
She’s in your bloodstream.
You’re not alone,
Now you know.

Feel her love, feel her deep,
Intense and low,
You’re denied peace in sleep,
You’re addicted,
And now you know.

Now you know.

Oh. Oh.

Givin’ in to the spin of this need.
Hatin’ the pain to concede,
The passing time, I need to heed,
When this love is so high like the tide,
Of a raging sea.

Fill your heart, feel the steam.
Let it flow,
She’s in your bloodstream.
You’re not alone,
Now you know.

Feel her love, feel her deep,
Intense and low,
You’re denied peace in sleep,
You’re addicted,
And now you know.

Now you know.

Chained by Fate.

My mind keeps breaking, while my heart is anticipating,
The feeling of you.
Do you feel it too?

Sitting here I don’t know if I can ever know more, will I ever say more,
About this feeling for you?
It deepens so true.

Lovers don’t know if they are meant to be, in the way of a melody,
Sung from the heart.
Can you feel it start?

All the cards and stories tell a tale, but we all know the truth is frail,
When words are real.
I can’t sit still.

Love is calling for me from so far away, I want to scream and say,
I’ll be there soon.
Do you hear this tune?

Speaking words from the heart, you know when to start,
But when to end?
Before you say what you cannot mend.

Santa by Moonshine

Santa by Moonshine

by Ronovan Hester

It came upon a Christmas Eve, when Santa was sniffly and blowing into his sleeve.

The reindeer had done run out of steam, for their feed for flying was chili pepper hot cocoa with cream.

The nine North Pole pundits of spirituous glee—trudged through the briars and more than one snow covered evergreen tree.

Dasher was close to stopping for the day; he was tired of pulling that big toy loaded sleigh.

Santa by Moonshine by Ronovan Hester

Then what to his bleary sleet coated eyes should appear, but a one-room cabin with a 1970 blue Jeep Wagoneer.

Santa knocked on the door of that haven of rest, hoping he looked his jolly good best.

The door opened to reveal a true sight, a bearded main dressed head to toe in glowing bright white.

“Hello, there fellow, my name is Santa; I was wondering if you could give us shelter and some sparkling Grape Fanta?”

The man looked at the jolly old elf, from the top of his head down to his ample red felt covered shelf.

“I believe I may help with your winter wonderland plight, come in come in and I will bring about a true delight.”

A fire was blazing inside of that one big room, and it was quite toasty with eight reindeer and two men with whiskers like from a broom.

“What seems to have brought you to my place out here in such a storm?” The man did not waste time with settling down his ample form.

Santa looked around from his chair by the fire; the man over him wore flannel and denim for his Christmas Eve attire.

“The snow is a bit thick and our radar is full of hacker spam, then my reindeer ran out of juice from their flying dust infused special strawberry jam.”

The tall man nodded, as though this was a common thing. He circled the button on his shirt round and round like a ring.

“Then I am for certain got something you need, but it’s not some fancy special concocted reindeer flying feed.”

Dasher snorted, and sniffed, and nudged up to his weary but comfy boss. Santa listened and stood before old Dasher could give him a firm toss.

“It seems my fine fellows here would be interested to know, what it is you might have that will make them get up and go.”

A smile and wink and the man slipped out the back, Santa looked outside, but the snow covered every track.

He ate another bowl of some kind of stew; he had not asked what was in it, for fear of upsetting his crew.

The door banged open and in walked a snow heap; the white powder fell off after one giant leap.

“Now here is what I have that should help you get going, and you best do it now, because there is an increase in the snowing.”

Santa took the mason jar, and turned it to the side; it was then that he saw a transparent liquid inside.

“You think water will help on a night like this? If you think melted snow will work then I think your idea is a miss.”

Santa set the jar down by his chair next to the fire; the man rushed forward as if something was most dire.

“Put that next to something like a flame, and you’ll not have to worry about deliveries, and for that I don’t want the blame.”

It was then Santa got the hint of a clue; one eyebrow rose then with a knowledge they numbered two.

“Oh, ho, ho, ho, I believe I now see; and if you please let me borrow a spoon we’ll be letting you be.”

“Keep the silver, it’s stainless steel, I got it at a dollar store, it was quite a good deal.”

Santa have each of his antlered engines two big full spoons each, then put the jar far out of harms reach.

Each of the reindeer licked and flicked their tongue; the liquid energy was making their tasters feel a bit numb.

“That stuff will protect them from the cold as well; when they get to going you best hold on or there’ll be another kind of Santa story to tell.”

Outside the cabin, the two men hitched up the sleigh, and with a call of each name, the reindeer shot up and away.

The deliveries were made with time to spare; no one even knew presents were almost not there.

Arriving back home to his place way up north, Santa walked through his home and shouted and called forth.

His wife appeared with a surprised look on her face. “Dear, you’re home so soon, was it some kind of race?”

With a twinkle in his eye, and a jingle of his bells, the lights went out, and Mrs. Claus wondered if her man was under some spells.

A giggle and a tee hee, and off the hat went, and in the moonlight, you could make out the empty mason jar’s glint.

At first sight.

At first sight you were
Covered in feathers not fur.
This sounds peculiar,
But if you knew you’d concur.

My sarcastic wit
Seems to have been a big hit.
The feathers all fell
What a tale to tell.

Time continues on
But you are far from a crone.
Unless I suspect
Your wish might be to protect.
Here I stand fully erect.
Of all of you I respect.

NEW FORM of Haiku & Poetry.

What do you get when you combine Free Verse Poetry with Haiku? A new form of poetry I call Freku. I’ve looked around and haven’t found this concept anywhere, but there is always that possibility of it being an old idea.

Instructions:

  • Write a poem with stanzas four lines each.
  • The first two stanzas should rhyme.
  • The next two stanzas should rhyme.
  • Continue in this manner for each stanza until completed with poem.
  • Close with a Haiku of 5/7/5 or 3/5/3 syllable structure that is basically the prose piece in three lines.

By taking a standard poem (And I do mean a normal poem, regardless of my example I did.) and then attempting to sum that poem up in the three lines of a Haiku, you have quite a challenge. It is almost like developing a proverb of the poem.

I attempted my first one for a post this past Monday titled Gasps for Breath. Originally the beginning poem was a standard rhyming free verse piece. Then I decided to challenge myself and cut each line down to form Haiku like stanzas. (I only include this to explain MY FREKU, not what you would do if you wanted to try it.)

5 Syllables
7 Syllables
5 Syllables
7 Syllables

5 Syllables
7 Syllables
5 Syllables
7 Syllables

5 Syllables
7 Syllables
5 Syllables
7 Syllables
7 Syllables
7 Syllables

Then the Haiku.
5 Syllables
7 Syllables
5 Syllables

Every two lines rhyme. That is how I did it. Call it my daily awareness of entries into the Fiction Challenge where I look for those pesky adverbs and dialogue tags, or my glutton for punishment, but I enjoyed cutting out the fat of the poem I created, maintaining rhymes, and maybe ending with a better poem.

After I created the idea of the poem and haiku combination, I went looking for other possible similar creations. I found the Chōka, a form Japaense poetry, or Waka. Waka means Japanese poem.

The Chōka is, or was, a narrative Waka in the 5-7-5-7-5-7-5-7-7 form during the Nara period. Think of this as an extended Tanka (5-7-5-7-7). The Chōka died out as a poetic form by the 10th Century (the beginning of the Heian period), and was replaced by the Tanka.

My inaugural piece, Gasps for Breath, was created initially as a free form poem with no aim at anything but expression. Somewhere along the way I decided to sum it up in a Haiku using the challenge words from my weekly haiku challenge. That led me to the creation of the Freku. It took longer to develop the name than the actual poem piece. I chose several names but all were taken for either poetry forms or some very inappropriate things. I’m still not completely happy with the name but it does give some clue to what type of poetry it is.

It has been pointed out to me that this is similar to a Haibun, which combines prose in the various forms with a closing/summary Haiku. For my purpose of this exercise I intend to stick to poetry without any forms of prose outside of poetry.

The Freku is not  a new challenge prompt idea. Some have linked to it with their own versions, and that is somewhat humbling to think people liked the idea that much. If you want to do a Freku and share it, you can always link it to the Weekly Haiku Challenge, and I’ll include the link in the review. It doesn’t have to relate to the challenge prompts. It would be the least I could do for anyone taking something I came up with and trying it out.

Freku, a new form of poetry.

Gasps for Breath.

Pain of life one leads,
Does not wither but exceeds.
Given winds of change,
My mind turns and twists, derange.

Torn ‘tween will and want,
What is it I can’t, I don’t?
Cowed by maddened, dim lit eyes,
Failure I despise.

I yearn arms embrace,
But fate voids every trace.
Feelings remain deep,
I spurn my foe, night thief sleep.
To the sun promise may rise,
Reason for these tear filled eyes.

My love is a lump,
A cause for heart’s gasps for breath,
Consumes all my thoughts.

Heart's Gasps by Ronovan Hester

Hello everyone. Today I’m introducing something I believe is new. A normal poem followed by a Haiku that sums up the poem. I am calling this a Freku at this time. Write a normal poem, if you wish, followed by a Haiku that sums up the poem. Free verse plus Haiku equals Freku.

Can you take a poem and then sum it up in three lines of Haiku? Or perhaps the other way around? Look for an article (NEW FORM of Haiku & Poetry) coming soon to explain in more detail but I think this section covers it.

For mine I attempted a 5-7-5-7 for the first stanza, repeat for the next two, but at the end I include two more 7-7. And to wrap it all up I created a Haiku that sums up the poem.

I wrote a normal poem first then worked it down to the 5-7-5-7 patterns. That was as a challenge to myself.

Drifting: in Love and Happiness.

My Guest Poetry on Meanings and Musings, Florence T’s, of our Haiku Challenge, blog.

Ronovan's avatarMEANINGS AND MUSINGS

Drifting In Love and Happiness. A Poem.

Time drifts into a path of mayhem without a destination.

Setting my course on the waters of peace and calm.

I turn my fate toward that which holds my compass true.

There is no turning back once truth has been found.

Does your life fear reality in all it’s frayed tapestry?

Do your hours run past you without meaning?

Does your heart beat faster without a purpose?

Do you know where you are going?

Embrace the obvious when it embraces you in its warmth.

Allow your mind to drift along and ride over the waves of madness.

You will find gentle slopes on the other side, bringing thrills to your heart,

And enliven a life with the missing part that was never found till now.

Peace, calm, floating, drifting, feelings of air beneath your body.

Feelings of pure love and happiness permeating your mind, body, and soul.

Bag O’bones-Biddle

black cat transparent

Ticky tocky ricky rocky
The cat hummed its favorite tune
Watching from overhead
All snug in its rafter bedLarge-Cat-Paw-Transparent-left-down
It knew dinner would be coming soon.

Pebbles rittled and rattled
Night mice skittled and skedaddled
The man skipped to the beat of his head
Though the house up ahead was in gloomLarge-Cat-Paw-Transparent-right-down
And the beaten head needed a bed.

Bag O’bones-Biddle
Watched the skipping man’s skediddle
A smile spread across his big shroom
He turned to stoke the cooling fire
And swept up ashes with a broom.
 Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-left-down
“Greetings  my good dear friend,”
The man said to O’Bones-Biddle as if kin.
“Might I partake of a spare piece of floor?
As the night has come on quickly
And I find myself without safety of a door.”
 Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-right-down
The answer was yes,
O’bones-Biddle was quick to confess.
“Pardon the house it’s not as I wish.
My keeper has all but left.
But he makes a delicious dish.”

The night’s dinner was thin
“Too much is a sin.”
The skipping man said in fun.
“Or so the saying goes”Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-left-down
O’bones-Biddle nodded. “It’s a good one.”

“I wonder this night,
If by chance you just might,
Help an old man such as me?”
Bag’s spoke in a voice
To bring pity upon one such as he.
 Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-right-down
“Of course I may,
Anything you might say,
Of this grateful stranger.”
The man did smile
Not the least aware his danger.

“I hope it’s not much trouble.
With two we may carry double,
And the fire will be stocked up as could be.”
Bag O’bones-Biddle went out the door.Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-left-down
The man belched, sated and hunger free.

“Pardon me, your dinner was divine,
It was the best I’ve had in quite some time.”
“Thank you, kind sir. It was the last in my larder.”
But to fill it once again,
I need not look much farther or harder.”
 Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-right-down
Ticky tocky ricky rocky
The cat hummed its favorite tune
Watching from overhead
From its rafter bed
Shaking its head at the buffoon.

First one load then two
Back and forth the men flew.
Wood stacking up higher.
“What all of this
You could build a bonfire.”
 Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-left-down
“Oh no, dear me,
I am no one for a party.
But I like to be prepared for a dish.”
Bag O’bones-Biddle took up is fiddle,
“I’ll play whatever you wish.”

“Oh, I don’t think so.
It’s time for bed, you know.”
And the man looked about for a way.
O’bones-Biddle, ignored the denialLarge-Cat-Paw-Transparent-right-down
And with a drawing he began to play.

“Ticky Tocky Ricky Rocky
That was what me Mum sung.
Ticky Tocky Ricky Rocky
Until the day she was hung.”
Bag O’bones-Biddle played and hummed.

The man danced and danced,
Though the music was un-balanced.
“What are you doing to me, you’re mad?
I can’t do this much more,
Or me heart will burst and I’ll be had.”
 Large-Cat-Paw-Transparent-left-down
Bag O’bones Biddle stepped to the man,
His hands fiddled as fast as a fan.
The man backed his back away,
Toward the rolling boil,
Whose fire had helped stoke to stay.

The cat sat and it watched through the pane.
Seeing nothing as wrong but all for its gain.
For it knew it would not be too long,
Once the fiddle began,
And heard Bag O’bones-Biddles’ mum’s song.

Luminosity is Bliss

Luminosity

Is something achieved through bliss

Reiterated?

Sometimes you look at what you have and count yourself very fortunate and blessed. But have you ever had a person in your life, or known a person that liked to remind a person just how great something is or how lucky they are? You almost want to reach over and smack ’em. Almost. Then you think about it and realize the other person in the scenario is old enough to know what’s going on and either likes it, doesn’t care, or will deal with it at some point.

Do you like to harp on things for the sake of your own glory? Especially things that are so clear to the one you are united with? Harp to the point of them no longer perhaps feeling so luminous about your presence in their life? Maybe that wonderful thing they loved then becomes something they just can’t stand.

for the someone

for the someone poem by Ronovan

I reckon I can find a way
A way to say it
But don’t betray it
Cause I don’t know if my heart can take it

Playing with a somber tempo
Baby I used to solo
Not sure about this
But I’ll give it all I’ve got to . . . know

Why am I so jaded
Has my love line faded
Do you know what I’m hopin’
Keep the windows open
Shine those rays over
Taking me slower
To the extreme

Kisses are splendid
Broken dreams are mended
Our senses are blended
When we are of one

My walls are forming
Memories are storming
Time for performing
Why do I turn and run

My knees are bruising
So sore from overusing
Tumbling from confusing
Please give me something to hold on . . . to

Slippin’ on pages
Filled with rages
Somehow never engages
Now fighting for someone

Tell me your staying
No more delaying
Baby I’m praying
For you the one

Why am I so jaded
Has my love line faded
Do you know what I’m hopin’
Keep those windows open
Shine those rays over
Taking me slower
To the extreme

for the someone

Here-A Haiku and a message added. Please Read.

Oh for peace to be

Here among the clamoring,

I find loneliness.

Here a Haiku by Ronovan

Do you hear what he’s saying?

This was written because of National Suicide Prevention Month. Thousands who die don’t die alone, they die around us. They call for help but we don’t know their language. Why? Because they’ve been made to feel as though there is something socially wrong and almost illegal about themselves. If they say they are depressed what happens to them? What happens at work? How does their family treat them or look at them? Do people ignore them with a “It’ll be alright.”?

For some of us we are lucky and have that one moment of clarity, that image that comes to our mind that pulls us back just in time. Not everyone has a boy “B”. Not everyone can be strong enough or maybe has fought for themselves hard enough to make it through. The above poem and image may not get the full effect I was going for, I may try again, but it tells you how we feel. All of the world around us, so close, so loud, but we feel all alone…and we don’t know why.

For some of you reading this, just think that you would never have met some great people if not for this blog. Perhaps a person has become very important to you that you met through a post or a challenge you found here.

Share this so people have an idea. We’re not crazy. But we are just out of step with something that will make us understand what is going on inside of us. And we call for help in different ways. Try to look, try to know your family, your friend. Know their language, in words, emotions, body. And when that language changes, find out why.

Heat.

She was born too heat,

Melting the coldest of cores,

She starts earth to burn.

A Haiku called Heat

Passion? Nature? Life? Love? What is it about? Is the image coloring your impression?
