If you do not see your Haiku listed below, make certain the ping back or your comment with the link is in the comments of the Challenge Post. This year I won’t be checking for those who may have missed notifying the Challenge Post, in some way, of participation. Unfortunately it takes way too long to complete the review in that manner. I’ve seen different types of pigeons at the bird feeders outside my window but we don’t have this type here, at least I haven’t seen them.

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #9 Entries: THE LINKS

Ronovan Friday Fictions The Writers with The Links , , , , , , , , , , , ,

21 Entries this week and 21 unique entries at that. We have everything from Contemporary to Science-Fiction, and Middle Grade to Adult. I noted two as Must Reads based on either uniqueness or impact of story. All the stories were good and worth reading twice. I say that because I do read each one at least twice. I wouldn’t if the story was bad.

The order appearing is the order in which the entry was received.

GL below stands for the reading Grade Level. Harry Potter is a GL of around 5. Tolkien is around GL 6.5.

Passive Sentence percentage is included as Active Sentences are considered the preferred form of writing by most editors and publishers. Active moves the story along. Passive is not always bad. Sometimes a story works that way, perhaps through the language of a person or the type of story. Even then, keep the percentage low.

I don’t believe in coincidence. Here is a story of fiction based on true places and people, if not the actual people of the story, but those living in the same conditions. This story is in the Philippines. What is strange is how this story mirrors a book I reviewed for my LitWorldInterviews.Com site. In that book is a city and a people living in the exact same conditions as the people in this story, but in Guatemala instead. No coincidences. Two stories coming for some reason. I also interviewed the author of the book and you can read the interview HERE. I don’t normally link to other people’s work in a review but this story hit pretty deep. 1658 Words, 6.8 5.4 GL, and 11% Passive Sentences.

The Guidelines are simple.

  1. Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above has links within it to articles about how to write Haibun, Tanka, and even a new form I created called Freku. You can also do the 3/5/3 form if you likeinstead of the 5/7/5 that I usually use. Write, share, and have fun. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com. (You would be surprised at how many syllables some words actually have.)
  2. The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  3. Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link in the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). Here are five Haiku. And the name’s meaning will be obvious as soon as you arrive. If not, I am speechless. Also, has anyone noticed how awesome Clarence’s writing is? I mean I know we all know it is, but from those first days to now? Wow. The man has let his mind go and written his little heart out. Fearless.

Some are begging for a series to continue the stories and I so hope the authors do decide to pick up the stories with the next prompt.

The Guidelines are simple.

  1. Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above has links within it to articles about how to write Haibun, Tanka, and even a new form I created called Freku. You can also do the 3/5/3 form if you likeinstead of the 5/7/5 that I usually use. Write, share, and have fun. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com. (You would be surprised at how many syllables some words actually have.)
  2. The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  3. Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link in the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). Tessa makes a mad dash to the hospital with a newborn a lot less stressful in a lot of stressful ways. Humor was the goal this week and she accomplished that, even though it wasn’t where she originally intended to go with the 7th installment of her series. 281 words. GL of 5.6.

How not to start the New Year

A great start for our new to the challenge member. I have a bad feeling this was based on fact rather than fiction. Isn’t that where the best humor comes from? At least she can laugh about it, or maybe this was a cathartic endeavor. 283 words and 7.3 GL.

Hooch for the pooch brings about an intoxicating smooch. Kat pulls out all the stops in her Humor piece this week. 255 words. 6.8 GL.

Alka thought there wasn’t much humor here, but she was only being modest. Her style gives a subtle touch to humor and you begin to chuckle because you see what’s coming before she tells you. Very nice. 324 words at a GL of 4.8.

My goal this week was to give fun words with one being a noun and one being a verb, while still being a real challenge. It turns out I gave two words that could be nouns and verbs. If you look at the two words I imagine you will instantly see what my thoughts were. See if you can not go there, that is if you figure out what I was thinking. During the holiday seasons we all do what I was thinking. Either during the holiday or immediately after a time of religious adherence.

An update for some and something totally new for others. The FREE eBook Project, details found at THIS LINK, has a slight change. Amazon may not have the option for an ALWAYS free eBook. It does price match, thus the reason it seems like a book is always free. I am looking at Smashwords which does offer FREE eBook options all the time, and more reader options, including Kindle, PDF, and lots more. The rules are simple.

  • Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com.
  • The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  • Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put a link back to this prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other. A link in your post does give others a chance to find us and join in. Use one of the two below if you like.

Make certain to check out the possible publishing aspect of the Haiku Challenge beginning with this weeks challenge. Only those who fill out the form at the bottom of the page at THIS LINK will be considered. It’s for a possible future FREE ebook on Amazon. Something we can have that’s ours and an experience to share with loved ones maybe. But no form, no usage of your Haiku. Just keep writing as usual. And it isn’t a guarantee it will happen. But I think it will. A great way to learn a lot about the world of publishing. We have at least 20 sign up so far.

Maybe this week isn’t so bad with the words. Cover has so many uses. You can even apply it to types of cover, such as blanket or the like. Color, well that one you an go with in a lot of direction as well. Are they challenging? Slightly, but I do want to make you have to think sometime.

It’s THESAURUS time. No, that’s not a new character in the next Jurassic Park movie. For Crane click HERE and Gold click HERE. You don’t HAVE to use a synonym but if you get stuck, go for it, get wild, get crazy, go out on a crane limb for a pot of gold. And remember, scroll all the way down that page when you go to it, there are words all the way at the bottom to use.

Hope y’all don’t mind the Closing Haiku. It’s been a while since I’ve done one. I’ve tried to stay out of the influencing of moods in the challenges lately. And honestly there does seem to be a bit more variety now that I no longer do an Opening Haiku.
