Why my poetry reads like it does.

Art imitates life. Well, usually that’s the other way around but for me and this blog… So, I thought I would give everyone a little bit of an explanation about how weird some of my poetry is lately. If you’ve been following the blog long enough you know that I pretty much write what’s going on, for the most part. Sometimes it could just be inspired by a song or the beat of a song. Lately it’s about life.

One thing I love about haiku is that with so few words you can have so many meanings. For me, the meaning of my poetry is pretty simple, but when I read them again I can see how they can be interpreted them other ways. I mean I like writing a poem that is so clear to me but can be something else to others and completely opposite to anything I thought of at first.

Life is crazy at the moment for me. I am having to exist to keep my mother eating and moving and living while at the same time trying to do the same for me who has been isolated from the world for almost nine years. I drive now, for the first time in that long. I do everything. Not complaining, although I really am complaining but I can because I know all of the stuff.

So, I say all of that to explain that my poetry starts out to be a positive and moving forward thing but may end up sounding a little negative. It’s just word selection and how I use those words. I like to throw a twist in there.

Expect some attempts at funny and randomness. I loved writing that way back when I started the blog. Expect some poetry that reads like songs. I can hear the beat even if you can’t, although I try to write the words in such a way that you might figure it out.

What Now? – a poem

What Now?

The ideal, the divine, the wish, the want … for some out of reach.

Once reached, life is forever changed …  in danger of collapse.

Where once was elation and clarity … the future now void and vague.

Nonetheless

Defined by the moment… raised high beyond life’s normal plane.

The delicate arc of form… revealing celestial gifts.

Thankful misery in this… given to an unworthy beast.

Uncharted – a poem

Uncharted

Yielding to complacency … the end no longer defined.

Having spied the horizon …  as though pulled from the mind’s eye.

Make the best of the moment … traveling a future’s path now unlined.

Destination? – a poem

Destination?

My heart’s desire fades across time and space, racing the waves.

Yet, no matter the path traveled, my passion remains full and bright.

But should desire be fuel for the attainable or the denied?

Unavoidable: a Sijo poem.

Unavoidable

Time passes with twists and turns; a relentless force.

One day the scent of life’s wind is sweet, the next sour with despair.

Will the next season be rancid or rejoiceful?

Hail the King – A poem.

Hail the King

The king… found to be innocent.
Not one shred of evidence found.
The poor man mocked into the ground.
His death by greed, no accident.
The man besieged begins descent,
no sleep, no love, no calls he’s true,
but rather of he’s down, he’s through.
Forced to flee to distant lands,
led to death by charlatan hands.
Too late justice , what does it do?

Thrills of Life – a poem.

Thrills of Life

nature thrills at life

none but man thrills at sadness

of natures lost life

https://www.worldwildlife.org/ (At one time I was a supervisor for the company that took membership calls for the World Wildlife Fund WWF which is what this is. The wrestling organization of WWF, now WWE, was sued to stop using the WWF moniker. Oddly we also sold the wrestling company’s merchandise. I had to take over a call and pretend to be the Macho Man Randy Savage by imitating his voice, which I wasn’t allowed to do but it was a Saturday and it was for a small child.)

I’m not endorsing an organization but the above is one place to start, although I can’t say where the donation money goes.

There are two documentaries on Netflix in America right now and they are both great: (I have a soft spot for gorillas and elephants.)

VIRUNGA is about a UN World Heritage park in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo whose rangers fight to protect1/3 of the world’s wild mountain gorilla population.  Not only poachers are a problem but war and natural resource corporations want inside the park. This is unlike other documentaries on poaching I’ve seen.

GARDENERS OF EDEN is about a an orphan elephant rescue and wildlife rehabilitation program in Kenya. It was founded in 1977 by Dame Daphne Sheldrick to honor her late husband, David Sheldrick. It’s graphic and you see two sides of the elephant poaching story or rather three sides. The Sheldrick side, the vicious poacher side, and the local people side.
