Closing Haiku
First in this week:
TJ Paris is in first this week from Western Australia. Poor man was waiting for the challenge to come out and found out it was going at a random time today. 🙂

Ronovan’s of Ronovan Writes has offered this week’s prompts of Rise and Save.
One of the most enduring symbolic actions of the French Revolution was the storming of the Bastille. The people of Paris nobly liberating the tragically prisoners trapped in this vile and noisome fortress. So complete was the destruction of this symbol of Royal oppression that not a stone remains. Then in July 1830 the Parisians again got all revolutionary and this column was put on top of the location where the Bastille stood to show the Parisians were revolting (again!).
How I can picture the iron gates of the Bastille being torn down and the poor, wrongly imprisoned scions of the people flooding out in their hundreds while the vile Aristos shuddered (quite rightly) in their gilded palaces.

There will be a recap this week, it’s just taking me some time on this tablet to do something worth putting out.
The challenge on Monday will be out at a random time in order for anyone to be the first to enter. And I thought for this week it would be kind of fun.
The hope is I will have a laptop by next week. In addition to the funds raised two bloggers have been in touch with Florence to make up the difference for a very nice laptop. My last one I took care of and lasted 7 years.
I still don’t know why people are doing this but it is appreciated more than any of you can know.

As most of you know I’m using a tablet to read, reblog, and tweet since my laptop crashed. Florence of Meanings and Musings fortunately had permissions to my blog and can put out things as I need them done in emergency cases.
Instead of a review or roundup this week I tweeted each entry to the #SundayBlogShare. It’s very popular and hopefully will get everyone a few extra visits. The link below will take you to the challenge post where in the comments are links to each haiku. The duplicates have been deleted so that those wishing to visit will only visit a haiku once.
The fundraising Florence started, without my knowledge, will be ending at the end of Tuesday, at my request. I want to get back to blogging and my friends soon. My laptop is not a game tool for me, it is how a chronic pain sufferer and retroamnesia person with PTSD and issues with crowds since the grade 3 concussion keeps in touch with the world. That’s all of you, my blog friends and family.
Never try to type all of this on tablet with fibromyalgia and arthritis and migraines, it’s a bear.

First in is Juliet with Healing Wounds. Stole ,the tablet to do this reblog. Migraine is already spiking from using it. Felt I had to try to do this though as I said I would in the challenge post.
Today’s prompt words made me think of the phrase “Not all wounds are visible.” Along with my own personal story, there are many others that have been through the same situation. There are some out there that think because there is not physical violence that they are not in an abusive situation.
This haiku is for all of us.

Time will heal all wounds,
Hopefully that phrase is true,

What many people who read the Challenge Post don’t realize is there is a Review or Roundup each Sunday. You see the Challenge runs from 9:00 AM EST Monday until Sunday Noon EST. Shortly after Noon on Sunday I post goes out that includes the names, blog names, and Haiku names and links and Twitter Handles of all those who participated.
If 5 people participate a post goes out, if 50 participate a post goes out.
A Review includes my comments of either opinions, feelings, or fun teases about the Haiku. I have no shame and enjoy being goofy with this and being very honest and serious as well.
A Roundup does not have the comments due to time or health. Yes, I have health problems that interfere with do all I would like.
First Timers will appear at the top of the post with information from their About Page to introduce them to the community.
First to Enter for the Week and appear in the comment section on the Challenge Post will be right below the New Participants in a prominent manner AND will be reblogged onto my own blog to be shared with my readers and thus my Twitter followers.
From there each person is listed in order of entry.
Authors have it mentioned they are authors and links are provided to their Amazon pages. Etsy Shop pages are linked to as well as any other blogs of the participant like one lady has a photography business.
I pick one Serious Haiku and one Humor Haiku each week that grabbed me for some reason. My humor has a broad range and as always with any type of award this is an opinion. Sometimes the choice comes down to proper Haiku structure, it gets that close. And yes, I do at times have ties.
Just as I give an Example Haiku with the Challenge Prompts, I also do a Closing Haiku with them.
I then share the Review on Twitter and Google+ on Sunday and Monday.
Every member of the Challenge should pay a courtesy visit to the other members. I notice some do this. Yes, it takes time, but it is nice to see how others think and to support others with some views, and likes and comments if you do actually like the Haiku and want to comment. Notice I did say SHOULD. You don’t have to visit, but it is nice, and no one knows if you don’t. If you do like it a lot, share it wherever you like to, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, wherever.

Day three of The Haiku Challenge Explained discusses images.On day one we talked about Ping Backs, Sharing, Comments. and on day two it was Types of Haiku and How.
Many people like to place their Haiku on an image that relates to the message of the poem they have written. These are also good for Pinterest.
Using an image is entirely up to you. Some do, and some don’t use them. I do sometimes and sometimes I don’t. It really depends on how much time I have or the mood I am in.
Images do not influence anything in regards to the Challenge, but sometimes an image is amazing and is just perfect for the Haiku.
There are plenty of sites to get images from. Many people use their own photography. I make my own images using picmonkey.com or/and pixlr.com.
Within the Challenge post there is an image you may include in your post or not. Sometimes it is customized to the weeks Challenge and then sometimes it’s one simply identifying the Challenge.
Image or not, it doesn’t matter. What matters in the Haiku Challenge is a Haiku. That’s it. For some it is just a bit more fun finding that perfect picture to go with it.

Today I continue to my series on explaining the weekly Haiku challenge that’s been here on Ronovan Writes for just over a year now. The challenge is more than just poetry, it’s community as well. Friends have been made, very good friends.
To make it easy for people to join in and make these great friends I wanted to make writing Haiku easy. I’ve written “How To” articles before but let’s see if it can be even simpler.
There are three styles of Haiku I have mentioned here on Ronovan Writes, all three include the Haiku in English form of three lines. The first line is 5 syllables long, the second is 7, and the third is again 5.
Traditionally one would have the second line of 7 syllables be such as to complete a sentence with the first line, and begin a sentence with the second.
Waves lap at my feet
As my thoughts drift towards you,
Peace comes with your love.
The first sentence formed with the second line of 7 syllables as the end would be, “Waves lat at my feet as my thoughts drift towards you.”
The second line of 7 syllables then continues on to begin the second completed sentence, “As my thoughts drift towards you, peace come with your love.”
Now you know how to write a Haiku. Often times, and in traditional ways the Haiku is about nature and the two sentences would contrast each other or oppose each other. For poetic sake this these rules are often broken. The purpose of the Haiku is to relay a thought, a feeling, an emotion that one might otherwise write in a full letter perhaps.
The Haibun is an a relatively newer form of, or use of, Haiku that many of our members of the Haiku Challenge like to use. And no, you don’t even have to change how you write the Haiku. All you do is write a story of perhaps a memory and then at the end you reduce that down to the very bare, basic emotions, and meaning in the form of a Haiku. These are often my favorites.
The Tanka is an old Haiku form consisting of 5 lines of poetry. The syllable structure is 5 syllables, then 7, 5, and then 7, and 7. The Tanka is something I think I want to participate in more. The subject and manner of a Tanka involves first an object in the first three lines. Think of it as if you are describing the object. Then by using the third line as the link you create the emotional response the object gives you.
Waves lap at my feet
Driving forever onward
With intensity
I long for them to carry me
Finally into your arms.
By doing the basic Haiku, which is what most of our poets do, and by reading the previous article, The Haiku Challenge Explained: Ping Backs, Sharing, Comments. you are now ready to participate. There are more articles to come, but these two are the only ones you really need to get started. Don’t let the title of the previous article concern anyone. There is a link to an article that explains what a ping back is in detail, and they are not even necessary to participate.
Links you may need in writing a Haiku:
Thesaurus.com for synonyms of my challenge prompt words. I enjoy seeing how people use the words for their own purposes.
HowManySyllables.com for making certain you have the right number of syllables for a word. I’ve been wrong a few times, thus whenever I am not 100% positive, I check and if the word I have is too many or too few syllables, I then go to Thesaurus.com to find an alternative.

Last night before falling asleep, I felt a Haiku welling up inside. My tablet was in my hands. I wrote down the verse, and with some minor edits the Haiku appeared: “History Repeats.” It is the PING presently above. It seems my reaction to Ronovan’s words Rise and Save had an extremely visceral reaction within me. All three Haiku I wrote in this Challenge came from dreams and a necessity to record what came to me. TY Ronovan for your majorly creative and inspirational choices of words.
