Vacation Recovery Begins Now.

This past weekend and early part of the week was an impromptu vacation for me. It was the first time in 8 years I had been more than an hour and a half from my home.

I intentionally left my laptop and tablet behind. In their place I had a pad of paper and a pen. My phone was the only electronics I had on me and it was used to take some photos…

Beach Aquarium…and phone my parents upon arrival at the hotel. The hotel was great. I think it could’ve slept 10 adults or 5 of me. A Jacuzzi everywhere you looked on the ground floor around the pools. 6 pools, most of those were heated. Full kitchen. The last hotel at the end of the beach before residential areas, across from a golf course, and a yacht club, made for a very nice, quiet time. All at a very great price.

ResortWith that knowledge now in your hands, you may understand that I am a bit behind on some commitments. Maybe not behind according to agreements, but according to my own personal preference. Blogging will be sparse the coming week until I…

  • Read at least one book for Review. (I have several)
  • Proofread and edit a book for a friend of a friend.
  • Proofread and edit at least three articles for a friends business site.
  • Write a short story for a contest. (I’ve only entered one short story contest before and won it, by luck. Maybe this will happen again.)
  • And there is something else that I am forgetting but that nagging feeling at the back of my skull tells me it’s out there waiting to make its presence known.

I’ll be back in the saddle fully soon. Enjoy the challenges and the entries in the comments of each one. If you haven’t been visiting the short stories for the Friday Fiction challenges you are missing out.

Much Respect,

Ronovan

PS-You know I have a book. You know you can click the image in the side bar to go get it. The reviews have been great. 9 five stars and 2 four stars so far. I’ll take that for any book I write ever.

10 Questions for Ronovan Hester

With only being able to reblog once, and having done that with this interview to my author site, I’ve copied and pasted the article here. It isn’t as nicely formatted as author Vashti Quiroz-Vega has it on her site, and I suggest everyone visit the original for the full experience by clicking HERE.

Hello everyone! I have a treat for you today. I’m an avid reader and self proclaimed bookworm and to me as well as others like me it is always fun when a new, intriguing book is released. Do you enjoy fascinating stories about pirates? Well then you’ll love The Razor’s Adventures Pirate Tales by P.S. Bartlett. I have featured P.S. Bartlett and her books on this blog and you can check out that post here.

Today’s focus will be on the wonderful and talented Ronovan Hester since P.S. Bartlett’s recent installment in The Razor’s Adventure series, Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling is co-authored by him. This is not your typical pirate story since Ronovan puts his love of History and his 20+ years of writing experience to use in his debut Historical Adventure set in 1705 England, American Colonies, and Caribbean.

Amber Wake-Ronovan Hester-pirates

Ronovan’s Bio:

Ronovan Hester is a writer living near Athens, Ga, home of his alma mater, The University of Georgia, where he received a B.S.Ed. in History Education. Ronovan puts his love of history and his over 20 years of writing experience to use in his debut Historical Adventure set in 1705 England, American Colonies, and Caribbean co-authored with P.S. Bartlett.

Ronovan’s devotion to history and writing sometimes competes with his love of tacos and fresh fruit. At times, all his favorite things work hand in hand in mouth during long binge writing sessions that have been known to last nonstop for over 24 hours. Rather than see a sleep disorder as a hindrance, he uses the time for creative purposes or watching old TV shows on online.

Ronovan enjoys putting elements of history, if only as nods to the past, in all of his book projects. He currently instills that love of history and learning in his son daily as he helps him through his college prep courses, meaning hours of homework every night, even while not yet a teenager–his son, not Ronovan. Now if he could find a very good mute for that trumpet his son just began learning.

10 Fun Facts About Ronovan

One of your 10 fun facts is that you love to cook. If P.S. Bartlett arrived at your house for dinner what would you make for her?

I would go Southern. I make very good Southern Fried Chicken, biscuits, and I these potato wedges that I batter then fry, then oven bake. It’s something I created, and everyone loves them. I fry them enough to get them brown and slightly crisp, then into the oven to finish cooking over a rack to let the excess oil come out. I cover them with foil so as not to let the brown much more or burn. You end up with a crispy on the outside, completely done on the inside oven fry. You spice the batter how you like it and either make or use your favorite condiment if you want to dip them in something. There would of course be sweet iced tea. For dessert a peach cobbler, since I live in the Peach State.

Another fun fact about you is that you love the sound and feel of the ocean at night. Have you seen the movie ‘JAWS’?

I did. I also saw the Jaws 3D in the movie theaters when it first came out with some older cousins.

One more fun fact about you is that you enjoy eating lunch sitting under a tree while watching and listening to birds. If you could be any bird which would you be?

I think I’m pretty much a Robin if you look at me. I can’t escape that.

Ronovanwrites-The Writer Next Door

10 Questions for Ronovan Hester

1/ Tell me about your book

Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling is a historical adventure beginning in a sailor’s pub in 1705 London and then taking to the seas. Court-martialed due to the events in the pub, Captain Gabriel Wallace of the Royal Navy finds aide with his former crew who mutiny against the Royal Navy, just in time to avoid capture by his enemies. Wallace has more than one mission/objective during his war against the men behind his disgrace but only he is aware of it. This secret causes some problems as the story unfolds and Wallace and his men go after the biggest haul a pirate has ever attempted in the waters of the Caribbean, all in the name of revenge and loyalty.

Reads like a riveting story! And not your typical pirate story.

2/ What inspired you to write this book?

After many conversations with PS Bartlett, the creator of the Ivory Shepard world of pirates, the discussion came around to her thoughts of a sequel to her very first pirate novel, The Blue Diamond: The Razor’s Edge. A book I enjoyed a great deal. I had the idea of her writing a prequel series of books of how her main character became a lady pirate captain, while I wrote the book that would currently be the beginning of the entire series and become known as Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling. By the way, not only does Microsoft Word object to the use of lady in this paragraph, but Ivory Shepard would as well.

Ah, ha, ha. I guess ‘female’ is the word that comes to mind then. The idea of a ‘prequel series’ telling how the main character comes to be, who she is in the original series is quite brilliant.

*Clarification from Ronovan: I should have worded the part about the prequel ideas coming up between PS Bartlett and I about the same time. It was an idea to expand the world she created and bring in more attention to the character of Ivory Shepard. The Blue Diamond was a great book.

3/ Why team up with another writer, instead of writing this book on your own?

I looked at it as a two-fold thing. One, I would be helping PS Bartlett get one more book out in her series. In this book, I could give a different perspective, a different voice than that of Ivory Shepard. There needed to be that different voice. Second, I’m a historian and love research. Thus, I saw this as a challenge of sorts. Just as I challenged myself to write a Southern Romance, completely out of my comfort zone, I did this, which was a new genre for me. I do historical fiction more around WWI and WWII.

Although not a historian I share your love of research. I’m happy you took this on and wish you continued success.

4/ Which is your favorite character in the book? Why?

I would have to say Gabriel Wallace is my favorite because I put so much of me into him. Some of that’s been taken out because of the collaboration, but I know where I show up. People that know me will know what I wrote and not. The styles mesh but my personal character is different from some of what Wallace ends up as. Gimby, the helmsman is a good one too.

5/ Which character in the book would you not get along with? Why?

That’s a tough one. There are times, due to circumstances a couple of people are difficult to deal with. One is somewhat obvious when you begin reading the book, and the other grows into someone less than a joy to know.

Very diplomatic answer.

6/ Finish these statements:

-If I wasn’t afraid I would move to a better climate part of the world with a beach and a nice ocean view, although I’m not really afraid of much.

Florida awaits!

-Someday, I want to be successful enough at writing to pay the bills and maybe help form some sort of foundation to fight some children’s problem.

7/ You have multiple personalities, describe some of them.

First, I’m not sure how you knew that. Second, I’m a workaholic one minute and a total veg the next. That might be part of some health issues though. I have the funny guy side, then the serious the next. Yes, I’m a Gemini.

I pay attention, Ron.

ronovan-hester-and-the-fish

8/ List 5 adjectives to describe yourself?

  • Hopeful
  • Romantical (My creation of a word.)
  • Caring
  • Idealistic
  • Inquisitive

Yes! I agree with all five. I’ve come to see all of these in you and your writing.

9/ How have your physical problems affected your writing?

That’s a big one. I could make a long list of negative things, but I look to the end result being I use the time I have to write as much as I can, which at times is a lot. If I had normal health I wouldn’t have a book out right now. I see this as one of those things where God took an extreme bad thing and used it for an extreme good in my achieving getting a book published which can show others anything can happen if you work at it.

That’s a very positive and inspiring way to look at a traumatic experience in your life. I love your outlook.

10/ How is Captain Gabriel Wallace like or unlike Captain Jack Sparrow?

The two are about as opposite as you can get. Wallace is a trained captain in the Royal Navy, member of the upper class of society, actually a member of the House of Lords, well educated, and has a certain level of morality that dictates a lot of his actions. He doesn’t mind fun and jokes but his focus is his mission and the well-being of his crew. Wallace is not really a pirate, but more a soldier at war with a given enemy.

Synopsis

The autumn of 1705 brings Royal Navy Captain Gabriel Wallace to face off against an enemy within the ranks of the Admiralty itself that threatens his career, his reputation, his family, and something even more far-reaching in its plot.

Court-martialed and with Admiral Chambers, the mastermind fearfully known as the Chambers of Hell, out for his destruction, Wallace finds he has allies willing to face the might of the mightiest power on earth, with some allies in the most unlikely of places. The crew of his former command, the Majesty’s Venture, mutinies from the Royal Navy. With capture by his enemies close behind, Wallace agrees to become captain once again.

With a ship at his command, Captain Gabriel Wallace sets out to fulfill his mission, the completeness of which only he knows.

Now a pirate by situation, Wallace sets out for the Colonies and the Caribbean. Will his crew remain loyal as they leave the rule of the Royal Navy behind? Will his lifelong friend, Miles Jacobs, follow Wallace blindly without knowing the whole story? Finally, will the young Lieutenant Maddox Carbonale stay under the command of Wallace or have plans to lead instead?

With these questions in his thoughts, Gabriel Wallace wages war on Chambers and goes after the largest haul in the history of the Spanish Main. Whom does Wallace meet along the way? To whom are his loyalties to: vengeance or something more powerful?

If you love tales of adventure, of the sea, of the struggles of men, and nods to history, this is your book. Read Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling and you’ll have a new appreciation for all of The Razor’s Adventures Pirate Tales.

Stressed out

A good post to live by.

FlorenceT's avatarMEANINGS AND MUSINGS

Well I have been a little, and though my intellect, my mind tells me to chill, sometimes the emotions and the body react. I hope I am not alone when I say it is so easy, rather unthinkingly to take the stressed out emotions out on someone else.

That can happen, don’t flay yourself over it. I now watch this with a certain curiosity of ‘why’ and ‘how’. The intention is to pay attention to the triggers, to catch them before the emotions erupt, before relationships become strained, friendships threatened. And sometimes it may be simpler to identify our body’s reaction before recognizing our emotions, like the tense shoulders, the trembling heart, the shaking hands, the jiggling feet… so many of our emotions manifesting in our body if only we would ‘listen’. What does your body do when there is sadness, anger, fear… Perhaps the next time you feel compelled…

My Way From Hell.

The winds fight through memories walls,
Shaking earth and the very foundation falls.
Never does the howling cry release,
The heart relentless to true belief.

Is it the craven mongrel’s hunger,
Seething inside and sounding thunder?
Beating the heart until aching pains,
Thrust through the chambers built for love’s gains.

Phantasms drift through sleeping minds,
Haunting desires of different kinds.
One less stumbling step to take,
Until it’s time for goodness sake.

Pathways higher than others may stand,
Wind blown free from dangerous sand.
Particles of grime to taint the dream,
Will never bring the pure of heart to scream.

Take your wallowed mess of grievous hate,
And keep it for your eternal soul mate.
I have found my way from hell,
Finding love out of my pained shell.

No, it is for the ease of my formatting their next entry in the challenge. It’s a bear to do those. (And maybe there is a little heart felt type thing I have for authors.)

Be still … know … breathe.

I’m tired. It’s been a long year in many ways. Many years ago, I went through a phase like this. At that time, I had a good support system in place. I was heavily involved in ministry. The type ministry and how many types don’t matter.

One night there was a gathering of the church leadership for prayer. We divided into small groups in the sanctuary, and within the group, each one of us had to pray for another person, and pray specifically. My partner was the youth minister and worship leader I had help bring to the church.

My problem was I didn’t know how to say no. I was the young and willing man in the church as well as business. In church if you are in your 30s your consider one of the young folk, that can even extend into the 40s. This inability to say no and wanting to help ended up with a very frazzled and sick Ronovan.

The youth minister prayed for peace to come into my life. The next week I was leading the youth on a concert trip to see Steven Curtis Chapman, arguably the king of contemporary Christian music. He sang a song that night, and I knew it was no coincidence.

Ever sense that night, one of my life verses has been Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

We forget sometimes and worry about things way beyond our control. Stress hits us from every angle. Do you ever think, after the fact, of how insane some of the things we worried about were? Life is too short to worry about everything. What the Psalmist means is to remember God is in control of the ultimate outcome of the world. Bad things happen because of bad people and being in the wrong places at the wrong time. Put your eternal life in his hands. Nothing can take you from the hand of God once you give yourself to Him. When you pass own, you are with God. Nothing here on earth can stop that. Hurt me, harass me, do all types of damage to me, and I will still end up fine because I know God has me.

I may stress for a moment, but then I center myself, shake the stress off, and get back to my core.

John 16:33 Jesus speaks to the disciples.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus never said life would be easy here on earth. He never said that to his disciples or anyone that ever heard him speak. He said the exact opposite. Christians would be persecuted because of him. “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” Matthew 5:11. As part of the beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount, you know it must be serious.

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I try to take away something good with every situation. My son and I were throwing the baseball a couple of weeks ago, as I am sure some of you saw the picture. Man did it get bad. I never got upset. I thought it was funny. I even looked at it as a learning experience I could use for my writing. I never had a black eye before. I now knew the pain of it, the coloring, and all of the things that goes with having a black eye.

My lack of stress helped with my son handling it as well.

Working on a positivity habit is tough sometimes. Habits take time to acquire. Eventually they take. I’m almost back in my zone now, and can breathe again. Now for the creativity to start up and have fun.

I don’t often speak about my faith here on the site lately. Life’s been busy. I do try to live my faith through what I do on my site. My faith is important to me. It’s important in every aspect of my work I do. Even in books I either plan to or have published, my goal is and was to put out something that has a core to it that will show the humanness of people and the war they wage with life and how sometimes they can’t win alone but need upbringing they have had, lessons they have learned, to turn to that will help them succeed.

Have a great Sunday, week, month, year, life, and eternity.

Don’t Let it Go … Hold on.

Today is a day unlike any in the history of the world. We are existing at a moment that has never taken place before. In these moments we breathe, and think, and love, we exhale the past filled with the air of anxiety, doubt, and confliction.

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a perfect world? Would we know it was perfect if there was nothing to compare? I’m thinking out loud at the moment. I’m not certain how much of this will make it to my clicking on publish, but I like to write out loud. It’s a great time to exist.

One of the first articles I ever shared was about how not to allow others to control you. People took from that, that you shouldn’t let people keep you from your dreams. That’s true on one level. Then there is the internal happiness. One emphasis I’ve had on my blog for quite some time is positivity. With life constantly bombarding us daily with negativity at every turn, especially the media, it’s nice to have a circle of the world that brings you positive influences.

I’ve been fortunate to have a great blog family and group of followers who encourage what I do, support my efforts, even when they come up short of my norm. We all need that. I think if we don’t we end up coloring our world with negativity at every turn.

Taking my deep breaths as one accomplishment has occurred and I set my eyes on the next, I let go of things.

That’s wrong. Letting go is a negative way of looking at things. It’s a form of giving up. Instead of Let It Go, think to “Hold on.”

Hold on to what is important.

Hold on to what you love.

Hold on to what gives you joy.

To what do you hold on?

Moments of Challenge.

As you all know, I don’t participate in may of the various pass it on blog things. You know, as in ‘do this and then have people do the same thing.’ One I don’t mind doing is the Three Quote Challenge. I’ve done it once before and I’ve been asked to do so again.

Susan Langer has asked me to join in this time. Many of you know Susan from her blog Susan’s Personal Blog where she enjoys doing various challenges and offers services to help other bloggers and writers.

I’ll give the rules and such at the end of my run of quotes. If you want to know them right now, click HERE to visit Susan’s post and quote. Do so anyway to support her blog.

My quote today:

My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
    and my portion forever.”-Psalm 73:26
Asaph, Worship Leader for King David.

Lately, life seems to be throwing things my way to challenge me in my writing life.

  • Where is the time for it?
  • Do I take short cuts?
  • Do I resort to the tricks and gimmicks to make things more successful?
  • Do I devote even more time to blogging and writing than I do now?
  • Do I compromise my beliefs and character for gain?

Those moments of challenge may come at you from any direction. Asaph was talking about looking around and see people of less than respectable practices seemingly prospering while those who lived on the straight and narrow path struggled.

Eventually, he figured it out. Although we see a visage of prosperity for a time in this person, in the long run, those who follow the right path, the right decisions will be more satisfied and happier because of how they have achieved what they have, and because of where they end up. We know we have not burned bridges or broken lives along the way. Our conscious and heart are clear.

“The artist produces for the liberation of his soul.” #BeWoW #Quotes

I was led to my author today by a man named Martin Gabel, an award winning stage actor from the mid 20th Century. I’m not positive the quote I went looking for was correct, but I ended up in some great ones anyway.

W. Somerset Maugham was a British writer who wrote in just about every form you could at the time: Plays, Novels, Short Stories. He served in the Red Cross during WWI and was recruited into the British Secret Service in 1916.

The man’s views on writing are solid. Other aspects of life are a bit more fragile. Due to the time he lived in there were secrets he kept and veils he hid behind that could only do damage to the man within. I’m giving you today his thoughts about writing with a few thrown in that influence you as a writer

13 Quotes from W. Somerset Maugham

W. Somerset Maugham Imgatination Quote
It seems that the creative faculty and the critical faculty cannot exist together in their highest perfection.
~*~
The crown of literature is poetry.
~*~
It is unsafe to take your reader for more of a fool than he is.
~*~
The ability to quote is a serviceable substitute for wit.
~*~
The artist produces for the liberation of his soul. It is his nature to create as it is the nature of water to run down the hill.
~*~
When you choose your friends, don’t be short-changed by choosing personality over character.
~*~
There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.
~*~
It’s a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.
~*~
It wasn’t until late in life that I discovered how easy it is to say, ‘I don’t know.’
~*~
Imagination grows by exercise, and contrary to common belief, is more powerful in the mature than in the young.
~*~
People ask for criticism, but they only want praise.
~*~
Writing is the supreme solace.
~*~
Habits in writing as in life are only useful if they are broken as soon as they cease to be advantageous.

RonovanWrites 83rd #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry #Links

Comments are bit skimpy this week. With the book launch of today for Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling now live on Kindle as well as Paperback, I may be able to get back in the swing of things. But after only links last week I felt I needed to get back to a normal review this week. Not that I ever am normal in anything I do.

If an author does not have a comment, as do the entries, that means they did not have an entry this week, but I left their place here. Is it for the benefit of advertising their work? No, it is for the ease of my formatting their next entry in the challenge. It’s a bear to do those. (And maybe there is a little heart felt type thing I have for authors.)

“…the heart explodes into a lifelong dance.”

You discover a quote in the oddest of places. Bret “The Hitman” Hart is a former professional wrestler and author from Canada. He rose to fame in what is now known as the WWE. He was around during and after the time of the likes of Hulk Hogan and Randy “The Macho Man” Savage. He was even chosen by Andre the Giant to wrestle the headline match on a stop of a European tour. This was a sign of respect by the big man.

Recently Hart announced he was battling prostate cancer. He’s had a lot of hard knocks over the past decade or two. His brother, Owen, died in the wrestling ring from a, I’ll just go ahead and say it, stupid gimmick stunt used to give the fans a thrill in the WWE. It wasn’t his brother’s idea. Then he suffers a stroke. Now this. In his announcement he said the following.

Mark Helprin wrote: “We are all perfect clocks that Divinity has set to ticking when, even before birth, the heart explodes into a lifelong dance.” I’ve had a great lifelong dance and I’m a survivor of many hard battles.-Bret Hart.

Of course, I had to go find out who Mark Helprin is. He’s a writer born in Manhattan into an entertainment family. Now he lives on a large farm that he actually works himself.

One thing that brought attention to Helprin was his stance on copyrights of an author. Pretty much he believes it should extend as far as Congress can make it go. Apparently, bloggers hit back at him for this. I’m wondering exactly what his wording was, or who these bloggers were. Even I, as a blogger, want my work protected, whatever work there may be.

The quote is a bit out there in some part. It comes from the book Memoir from Antproof Case. A book with a 3.97 rating on Goodreads out of over 2,ooo reviews. The book sounds like it covers every possible experience wrapped up in one man’s life.

It just goes to show you not to stereotype people. Bret Hart delivered this quote to a ton of people. Lots of us grew up watching him. He’s a legend of the wrestling entertainment industry, and not because he had a loud mouth or wild character. He could actually wrestler and do his job.

RonovanWrites 82nd #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry #Poet #Links

Well, you’ll notice the sad state of the Review this week. The reason? A father practicing a rousing game of catch before the upcoming baseball tryouts with his son. A very HARD thrown ball hitting of the glove reaching across the body … from that point onward, it is not certain if the ball went directly into my eye or hit a fence then went into my eye. However, reading is difficult and holding an ice-pack on the eye makes typing difficult. But two awesome things … 1) My son can throw one heck of a fast ball, and 2) All I yelled out was a yell and a Oh Gosh. I was quite proud of myself that my habit of no use of profanity in my language usage came through in that moment. My son was happy too, after he was assured I would survive.

If you haven’t voted about the Review format as of yet, please click HERE and do so.

I thank all of you again, for understanding that I normally save my comments for the review and not always on your blog post. I am attempting to work toward doing both, but I forget sometimes.

A stitch in the eye!

I had intended to enter the Photo Challenge hosted by Daffy and Melissa for Stitch this week, and I am going to use what I planned to. The only thing is, there is an addition and a reason my own Challenge won’t have a detailed review. A bit difficult when you have to keep an ice pack on and your eyesight is a bit blurry. Click the blue words up there for other entries.

Below is the offender.

My son has baseball tryouts next Saturday, and I felt good because of my book being available for pre-order. So I thought I would go outside in the nice fresh air with said son and throw, or actually catch the ball, since he needed to practice throwing. I would underhand toss it high in the air for him to practice. That was easy for me to do. I actually did a good job at catching, until … well …

The offending baseball.

Below is the Offended.

This is the eye about two hours later. I am not showing you the whole area. I thought the color alone of that nice, first black eye in my life, along with that green tinge would be nice to see.

Apparently the ball tipped off my glove and hit a fence behind me, then hit me square in the eye, or round in the eye. But there it is. I yelled in pain once, and said ‘Oh, Gosh!” according to my son. Pretty proud of myself. Goes to show not using profanity or any bad language since the day I found out he was to be born paid off.

The offended.

RonovanWrites 81st #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Review

Sorry for the confusion last week with the posting of the Challenge on Sunday for a few hours. Never blog with very little sleep. I went hunting for those who participated last week and I did not have a link for to check and some had participated and some I could not find an entry for. If you missed out because of the error, and would like to be included in this Review, post a Haiku and I’ll update the Review when I wake up. 🙂 As soon as I saw the post had gone out, I took it down to keep as little confusion out there as possible. Some figured out I had goofed. We still had over 60 responses, even with the foul up.

I wanted all those who participate, my friends and Haikumily, (I know Haikumily sound corny for Haiku family but that’s what it is around here in this growing community.) that as we grow, I know I have not been able to be as personable as I used to be, but don’t let that make you think I don’t appreciate all of your dedication to this thing Y’ALL have made such a huge thing. (For those who don’t speak Southernese, Y’all is Southern American for You All, or All of You.)

New Offenders!

NEWISH! Bill Engleson (Author): Trill Born. These three Haiku are in my comments. Last week there was also an offering by this writer, although at that time I Like a Child to Home by Bill Englesonreferred to him as Den because of his ‘call sign’ of denmaniacs4. Since then I’ve found out more about our mystery poster.  “Bill Engleson was active in the child welfare arena for more than 25 years, most of them as a front-line, journeyman, government protection social worker and a dedicated union activist. … Like a Child to Home is also very much  meant to be a means of paying tribute to the amazingly resilient  young people that he met along the way as well as to the hard working adults who shared that journey… [read more from his Bio].”

HUMOR

Judy: I so pretty. | Edwina’s Episodes. I am shaking my head as I type this. I’m speechless. @EdwinasEpisodes

Sandra: Winter | Wild Daffodil. Um, okay, is this NATURE, MOMENT, LIFE, or HUMOR. I think I’ll go with HUMOR this time, just for the fun of it. See what I did there? HUMOR … Fun … no? Pfft. (I’ve never typed Pfft before. Interesting.) You can find the list of this years photo challenges, from her and Melissa, on Daffy’s blog by clicking here. And information about the challenge in her post.

INSPIRATION

MUST READ 1000hoursleft (Mek): For Pho’s Sake | Work In Progress. This, so far in my doing the review, is my favorite overall read of a post. Mek used words to describe the experience of creating Pho in such a way you could feel, smell, and experience it yourself. I only wish I could taste it. Two Haiku mixed in with the post, added at just the right moments made this a complete post. I placed this in INSPIRATION because it inspires the desire to experience things like this.

LIFE

Alice: The Gift | Boomerang Zone. Ouch, be more careful next time. It’ll still be there at the end. Take your time. @Vidocq_CC

Lizl: Trusted Source | Quilted Poetry. Lizl went slangy this week … and it works. Check it out and see how she used Trill as slang.

Ritu: The Match-A Tanka | But I Smile Anyway. I am sure she watches because she likes the sport. Mhmm. Has nothing to do with the shorts. Mhmm. @PhantomGiggler

Clarence: My Erroneous Trill | PrairieChat. For someone who misread the prompt at first … he made up for it with 5 Haiku.

Greg: Her Voice | Potholes in the Road of Life. It ain’t puccinie or pavoratii but there you have it. (And Yes, I  know I didn’t spell them correctly. What’s the fun in being right ALL the time?) @greg_wolford

Meredith & Martha: Opera by Meredith and Peace by Martha | Meredith’s Reveries. I don’t understand why Meredith gave us the one Haiku this week. Oh sure, Martha ran off and left her alone for the sunny environs of the wayward South, but still. Oh, and Meredith, I could have sent you my CPAP machine. @Meredithlbl

Mira: final call | To Wear a Rainbow. And the scene fades. @BediMona

Elusive: The Saxophonist | Elusive Trope. Play that funky music white boy. Actually this one deserves a more serious comment than that. Using trill in this way was inspired and also telling of personal enjoyments. Haiku can be very telling about the writer.

OBA: Dreamland Vibes | The king’s oracle. A bit of a nice rhythm to this one as you read it. @obapathway

Diedre Blake: Sonatas | Toward the Within … Let’s get musical, musical. Let’s get musical.

Mahitha Kasireddi: Charged Thunders | MagyKars. Hmm, a moment of life, a big moment I think.

Ruby Manchada: Wafting Rhymes | Whispering Thoughts. I think someone feels like dancing, dancing the night away.

Jen (JK): Higher | The Secret Keeper. The musicality rises and raises.  @occultguardian

Prakash: Lesson | It’s PH. Learn something new every day. @ItsPhTweet

Neel Anil Panicker: Shrill Till | NeelWritesBlog. I think someone likes rhyming.

MOMENTS

MUST READ Pancake Bunnykins: Last Breath | A Real Messy Beautiful Twisted Sunshine.  I’m putting this in MOMENTS, but it could easily be in LIFE, or NATURE. The word choice and writing allows for such a wide interpretation. Only the image used leads me to be specific in the placement. For those visiting this blog, the like button is to the left of the top image. A little different than the usual theme’s we visit.

Marie: Empty Playground | The Syllabub Sea. I missed typing the letter l in ‘playground’ the first time through, not sure if that is telling of something or not. This one gives me a sad feeling of a devoted teacher’s thoughts. Maybe that says something about me. I get that hollow sad feeling when I think about having once been a teacher but unable to remember.

Olga:  Memories of Childhood | Stuff and what if. See the thrilling transformation of this trilling product of a nun. Say what?

jazzytower (PR): Fun Endings | Thoughts and Entanglements. A bit of a, um, play on words for the title there from me but I like it. A good memory shared. Well nice to have it shared.

R. Todd: Taps… | A Flash of Fiction. Very nice. Not much more you want to say really. Make certain to scroll down to click like or you’ll miss the second one. @psibrone

Nato: Trill of Love | Chasing Life and Finding Dreams. She is such a romantic. @MichelleLunato
Return to Top

NATURE

Kat: On the Wing | like mercury colliding. At first glance of the title I was concerned this might be a recipe. Then of course I read the actual Haiku itself and the interesting fact that went along with it. @kat_myrman

TJ Paris: Sunset |La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin. A feasty boy writes as poem, and his ships come sailing after him. Or is that chips? And what’s that about a prawny tiger? Aussie people have some strange anjimals. Then there was a pelican too? @Roccoco_a_GoGo

Ken G.: Spring’s Herald | RIVRVLOGR. Very nice Haiku and enjoyed the selection of image here. I’m wondering about that one fellow at the top though.

MUST VISIT & SEE Denis: Trilling Seagulls | HaikuHound. Guys, you MUST go and see this. The photography here of Australia at sunset is AWESOME!!! I always love Denis’ photos of his pet and all the birds he comes upon, but the birds are secondary in these. Makes you want to get up and make a trip.

Janice: Evening tweets | Ontheland. I like the tongue in cheek of that title. But the two Haiku are even better. And where else but NATURE would you find Janice? @ontheland1

Kim M. Russell: Evensong | Writing in North Northfolk. You have to like those Haiku that can be read as one sentence or two separate ones. @kim88110

Cathy: Winter Haiku | Rambling in the Garden. I climatic telling of the UK Midlands. It’s nice to see similarities between nations and people in things as simple as the weather. This matches what happened here this past weekend, much to the displeasure of my son.

Al: Sunset  | A Certain Point of View. Interpret this one how you may. How many ways can you? Will you go with the straight forward obvious, or obvious to most, or will you think outside the box? @AlistairLane

MUST READ JustMaria: Earth’s Cry | Doodles and Scribbles. (Why do I use JustMaria? Because we have other women named Maria in the challenge AND I first met Maria as JustMaria. Although there is nothing JUST about her.) When I saw the title in the link, the first thing I thought of was how when the earth begins to tremble for whatever reason, earthquake or some other cataclysmic event, birds let out a call of warning, alarm. They are like the cry of the earth to let other living things know something is happening. Maria came up with another idea and a lot more poetic too.  @ciisalveni

Roz Hill: Hardened Harmony | Small Spaces and the good life with Roz and Phil Hill. After some snowl searching, (It’s an inside joke, inside of me that is.) we have a nice Haiku with a photo that would be good for using in a story. That’s one reason you check out blogs, for reference material.

Janice: Canaries in the Coal Mine | Ontheland. I knew, of course, what this one would be about as soon as I saw the title. Then I read the rest of the post. The post itself had to do with the Writer’s Quote Wednesday hosted by Colleen of SilverThreading.com and the #BeWoW (Be Writing on Wednesday/Be Wonderful on Wednesday) event hosted by me. A good read. @ontheland1

Crow: Poem 20160128 (Forward Thinking) | Caw!.  As always the words are my title contribution. A programmer but I wonder if there is a gardener inside this one. @Crow

Melissa: Snowdrops/Winter Sky. | The Aran Artisan. Some of you may know what her titles mean, and some of you will be completely wrong. Melissa and one of our other Haikumily members, Sandra the Daffy one, helped compile this years list of ‘photo word of the week‘ challenge. @TheAranArtisan

Mira: Free | They, You and Me. Awww, she went NATURE on us. Very nice. Peaceful @BediMona

Lisa Greenbow: Gardens and Haiku | Greenbow. Nice Haiku with nice photography from the other half.

Becky: The Hills are Alive with the … | Becky G? Oh, That’s Me! When you read this one, you know you’ll finish that title.

VronLaCroix: Fence near an Oak | Simply Snapshots. The cool thing about this is what the fence is made of. Here, in America, you would rarely find this. Rarely, I said. I did not say not at all.

STORYTELLING

Simple Girl: Magic | PERFERVIDDREAMS. 3 selections creating a story of magic.

Wesley Hollifield: Broken/Trust | NearlyWes. Well done story even with a not so happy plot. I think my prompt word led to some rhyme to it and thus sent some in some interesting directions.

Sarina Jolly Roger | Shining Seeds I thought this title fit considering her mention of it in more than Haiku only. A story almost of pirate lore.  @shiningseeds

Thinky

Tolulope Sanusi: An Exception | Ruby’s Polaroid. This being a THINKY piece, you’ll have to think about it. @rubyr8_soul

RonovanWrites 80th #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Review

Some sites do not have their handle showing in their Twitter share option on their posts. I have to put in the handle from knowing they have one when I share the post on Twitter. How to get your Twitter Handle to show when people Share your blog articles.

If you do not see your Haiku listed below, make certain the ping back or your comment with the link is in the comments of the Challenge Post. This year I won’t be checking for those who may have missed notifying the Challenge Post, in some way, of participation. Unfortunately it takes way too long to complete the review in that manner. My apologies if that offends anyone.

Thank you for so many checking their ping backs.

NEW! Simple Girl: Memories | PERFERVIDDREAMS. Three Haiku with different imagery but with the same result. If you get what I mean.  Read the following and you see where I got her name from. I am a simple girl lost in her thoughts trying to keep a track of those…chasing some dreams and hopeful to achieve them..someone who wants to fly like  a free bird and discover the skies..!!I love to read and write both..For me a day spent reading and writing is not just a day passed but a day Lived well…After reading something you are wiser than you were before you started to read…And so the scope to learn is infinity and beyond. NEW! Mahitha Kasireddi: Trail of Questions | MagyKars. A thinky first entry. “Trying hard to fight my fears and depression. The only way I know to vent out my madness is writing poetry and prose… I’ll keep you posted !”

NEW! Cathy: Vintage Knots | Rambling in the Garden. Very nice first entry. Stuck to her theme, and she participates in the Weekly Photography Challenge with Daffy and Melissa. I really liked the photo used for the Vintage challenge. “I had not intended to write a blog, but was talking to a friend about how, now I had more time,  I wanted amongst other things to keep a better record of the garden and nurture its spiritual aspects, as well as writing poetry more often. She suggested I…[read the rest of the story].”

Roz Hill: Standing up to Time | Small Spaces and the good life with Roz and Phil Hill. No matter the weather, some things keep lasting..

This is one of the great things about Denis’ blog, he brings a great deal of the animal kingdom from Australia into other parts of the world, especially birds. RonovanWrites 79th #Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Review

Silver Lightning by Wendy Anne DarlingWendy Anne Darling (Author): See-through Eyes | Wendy Anne Darling. An odd title I  have? Well, I ended up with two thoughts as I read the Haiku. This title could be a whimsical title or one that has a more negative meaning, not that the poem is negative. Sometimes word combinations send you elsewhere for a moment, and THAT is where inspiration happens.  Wendy’s book Silver Lightning is on Amazon at the Author link above or the image.

The Dark Citadel by Jane DoughertyJane Dougherty (Author): Cat’s in the Dipper | Jane Dougherty Writes. Okay, a humorous type Title for a Lady Jane offering is obviously not always appropriate, however, Take a look at the two Haiku and I believe you will see where I got this one from. She actually dedicated the writings to Branwell this week. Don’t know Branwell? Check out Jane’s books on Amazon at the Author link above. @MJDougherty33

FANTASY

Geetha Balvannanathan: As spring makes its way | Geetha Bavannanathan’s Blog. When Geetha didn’t participate last week, I wondered why. But I should never wonder. If you ever pay attention to her entries, you’ll notice what all she puts into them. They are not a Haiku entry. I don’t think she could do just one. They are stories and filled with sight and sound as well. Never visited a one of Gee’s entries? Just you wait and you’ll see what I’m talking about. (If you see her profile here and no entry, just like with the authors, you try and type her name and then her blog name each new time she joins in. Although I’m getting pretty good at that last name part.) @geethap2007

INSPIRATION

Greg: My Hope | Potholes in the Road of Life. Greg stays with the theme of his blog. I often think some get titles wrong to poems like this. I’m not afraid to say I believe this is one of those times. It is not a hope. It is a promise given. @greg_wolford

Ken G.: Into the Light | RIVRVLOGR. Strangely, this has a link of sorts with Greg’s, if one puts their mind to it.

Lizl: Tomorrow, Hope | Quilted Poetry. I think this should be in INSPIRATION, for I believe people can take something from it and move forward with their lives if they think about this one.

Ritu: Breeding Sunshine | But I Smile Anyway. That almost sounds like a title Ritu would come up with, but it’s mine. A very upbeat Haiku. @PhantomGiggler

Terri: Hope | The BeeSpeak. Good nature Haiku with a good us of the prompt words in their original form. Structure is perfect.

Florence: Seeing the forest for the trees. | Meanings And Musings. A very odd title for this one but I think it fits with the idea I am getting from it. @FTThum

Susan Langer: Clear Crystal Chalice | Susan’s Creative Writing and Poetry.  For a moment you think one thing then you smack yourself in the forehead and have a DOH thing happen. @Susan_Langer1

R. Todd: Faith, Hope, and Love … | A Flash of Fiction. A new lineup for Destiny’s Child? No, a very well thought out sequence in Haiku form. @psibrone

Ruby Manchada: Crystals of Hope | Whispering Thoughts.  A poet that always bring imagery.

Becky: Live in Faith | Becky G? Oh, That’s Me! Straight to the point with her message this week.

Christine R: Ride the wave of hope | Christine R. Be a dear, and think clear.

LIFE

Willow: Crystal Hope | Willowdot21. This is one of those you read a few times before grasping it all. Willow use a syllable numbering all her own this week, well of sorts. Creativity is a huge part of this challenge and community.

Alice: Let’s Dance | Boomerang Zone. A David Bowie tribute. The first of the week, and if enough occur, a section of his own will be added for the challenge. @Vidocq_CC

Teresa Smeigh: Make it Crystal Clear | Always A Writer. Dreams revealed in this one. I have to agree with the destinations. @TeresaSmeigh

Meredith & Martha: Snow/Anniversary by Meredith and Fisherman’s Dream/Purpose by Martha | Meredith’s Reveries. I almost see Martha’s offerings as one, if you see what I mean. And we have a NICK (pet) picture Alert, and boy does he seem happy. NOT! And have you noticed the new title of the site? Not sure when that happened, but I just noticed it with this Haiku. @Meredithlbl

Kat: Crystal Hope | like mercury colliding. Three here that could have gone in another category but I felt over it they each had something to do with life. Good deal of imagery here.

Clarence: Haiku Quintation | PrarieChat. As those who regularly attend our shindig here, you know Clarence comes up with his own title. I have so wanted to do something like this. Here are five Haiku. And the name’s meaning will be obvious as soon as you arrive. If not, I am speechless. Also, has anyone noticed how awesome Clarence’s writing is? I mean I know we all know it is, but from those first days to now? Wow. The man has let his mind go and written his little heart out. Fearless.

Mira: frozen tear | They, You and Me. Wonder what the hope is in this one? As in I can see it being two different things. @BediMona

Sandra: Happy | Wild Daffodil. She wrote a happy post, with two Haiku about a happy time combined with photography of a Happy theme challenge, and her laptop crashes. Anyone feeling this pain as much as I am? You can find the list of this years photo challenges on Daffy’s blog by clicking here.

Andre Jayaprana: White Sand Beach | andrejayaprana. Very nice photo with this one. Makes me jealous. Last weeks did too. One thing I love about this challenge is seeing how much others get to live and travel and do wonderful things. Andre, you should try the photo challenge that Sandra and Melissa host, they are two of our Haiku members and they combine the photo and Haiku challenge into one post.

Al: Hope’s Return  | A Certain Point of View. Whoa, a single Haiku offering this week. Very sweet as well. @AlistairLane

Ared (anghulinghugotero): I Just Want Her To Be Happy | ANGHULINGHUGOTERO. A nice hope here.

Olga:  Untitled | Stuff and what if. .

Elusive: Spring Fever | Elusive Trope. I say this for an obvious reason, at least obvious to me. It’s a type of fever that isn’t the norm though.

Mira: hopeful | To Wear a Rainbow. Mystical romance. @BediMona

JustMaria: Hope | Doodles and Scribbles. You can get a nature thing going with this or an artist’s technique. BLOG TIP: One thing about Maria’s blog, she chose the perfect profile photo. When you arrive you instantly feel a touch of cheer.  @ciisalveni

Carolyn Injoy: Fractured Focus | Reviews & Recommendations. I love this one. At first one gets an awww factor, then you think about it and you realize what it is saying and as a writer and life liver in general you have to laugh.

Jen (JK): DĒJĀ VU | The Secret Keeper. Mystical moments with the Secret Keeper.  @occultguardian

Marjorie Mallon: The Grotto of Unrequitted Love | KYROSMAGICA. I’m scared to read this one. Well, she shares an awful experience with us. Okay not the awful kind some may think, but a hurtful one. @Marjorie_Mallon

Melissa: If you want to be happy, then be happy. | The Aran Artisan. All need to go an read this post, not only the Haiku, bu the entire post. A very family filled inspiration of happiness. Melissa and one of our other Haikumily members, Sandra the Daffy one, helped compile this years list of ‘photo word of the week‘ challenge. You have the words ahead of time and can plan ahead and have weeks of blog posts ready and set to go. She and Daffy like to combine the photo and the Haiku challenges into one. That spreads the post around to people with different interests. @TheAranArtisan

Colleen Chesebro: First Meeting | SilverThreading. Wish her luck. Be afraid, very afraid. I was going to name this one Beam Me Up Scotty, but she already named it. If any of you know the other person involved in the Haiku, you will know why I would have named it that. @ColleenChesebro

Sarina Flowing Hope | Shining Seeds Things flow, hope, water, all that kind of stuff.  @shiningseeds

1000hoursleft (Mek): Plato’s Cave | Work In Progress. A very interesting thing to learn about. Make certain to give a search after reading the Haiku.

Hugh Roberts: Crystal Tipps and Alistair | Hugh’s Views and News. Who knew the UK and Captain Kangaroo had something in common? @RobertHughes05

Wesley Hollifield: Please… | NearlyWes. I thought it was a theme he had going and it is. A continuation from last week. Make sure to check both out, although both stand alone.

Tolulope Sanusi: Jeweled Despair | Ruby’s Polaroid. I’m seeing greed and desire in the Haiku, but that could just be me. @rubyr8_soul

Juliette: Whatever it Takes | Battered Wife seeking Better Life. The post is called Missing You and includes  two months of Haiku. She’s back, caught up with two months of Haiku, and going strong. I think we should all join in and come up with a new name for her blog. @BWseekingBL

NATURE

TJ Paris: Blue Sky Ennui |La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin. We receive a wise saying in the commentary for this piece. And I agree with it entirely. Would love to have a little cabin there, except for that other little fact that may miss your attention if you aren’t looking for it. @Roccoco_a_GoGo

OBA: Crystal. hopefully | The king’s oracle.  A nice bit of poetry. I think some of our readers will identify with this one. @obapathway

Geetha Balvannanathan: Man and sun conspired. | Geetha Bavannanathan’s Blog. Geetha shows her variety of interests with her range of display here. @geethap2007

jazzytower (PR): First Light | Thoughts and Entanglements. I think the image adds a different spin to this Haiku. You may see ‘clear’ in a new way. It all depends on how murky things have been.

Cheryl-Lynn: Early Spring | Tournesol dans un Jardin. The image makes me think of a Purple Rain at some place like the North Pole. @CherylShares

Pancake Bunnykins: A Hopeful Morning | A Real Messy Beautiful Twisted Sunshine.  The dawning of a new day. For those visiting this blog, the like button is to the left of the top image. A little different than the usual theme’s we visit.

Janice: Frazil ice | Ontheland. A river dreams? Go read and learn. @ontheland1

Suzanne Miller: Early Morning | Art and Life. A Haiku inspired not only by the words but by the photo she took the same day she wrote the Haiku. Very jealous.

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #8 Entries: THE LINKS

The order appearing is the order in which the entry was received.

GL below stands for the reading Grade Level. Harry Potter is a GL of around 5. Tolkien is around GL 6.5.

The Writers with The Links

The Prompt for the Challenge was this famous Boab tree in Western Australia. The various takes on the prompt were surprising and there are some great ones in there. Some are begging for a series to continue the stories and I so hope the authors do decide to pick up the stories with the next prompt.

Boab tree
The Tree of Life
Kim Russell (Writing in Northfolk)
A story of a girl, her mother, and a twist of an ending. 249 Words and GL of 1.5 @kim88110

Recovery From Birth
by Teresa Smeigh (Writing is my Life)
This week Teresa has more excitement going on and drama as well. 880 Words and GL of 2.9. @TeresaSmeigh

Talitha Emerging
Natalia Erehnah (Weaving Gold)
Natalia used the prompt to write a passage for her work in progress, Spinning Stardust. I’d say it worked out quiet well. 230 words and GL of 6.3. @weavinggold

Curled Within
Lady Joyful (The Joyful Soul Creates)
The first installment of a possible series. A great start. Make sure to comment on what you think. I believe she gave just enough, and actually plenty in the 200 words limit she set for herself. 200 Words and GL of 3.3.

The Wish Eating Tree
by Ritu (But I Smile Anyway…)
Hmm, well that was an interesting read. Ritu has one serious imagination. 1848 Words, 4.4 GL. @PhantomGiggler

Melancholy Through a Looking Glass
Nandini Bharadwaj (Pages That Rustle)
Very nice first time entry. I very much want to see where this one might lead. Hoping there is a part two with the next prompt. 641 Words and 5.8 GL.

Larrkardiy
TJ Paris (La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin)
Good story of fiction based on traditional history of the particular tree used in the prompt. I knew when I saw TJ pop up and knowing the tree is located in Western Australia, I figured I might get a good retelling of facts. He also shares some history, myths, and facts following the story itself. 608 Words and 6.0 GL. @Roccoco_a_GoGo

A Night Shift Dreamtime Story
by Kat Myrman (like mercury colliding…)
Another great story. And another one that needs to keep going. Don’t believe me? Check the comments out. 664 Words. 5.3 GL.

Feverish-Part Two
by Melissa Barker-Simpson (Author Blog)
Melissa, or Mel, has jumped into this series of challenges. A two parter has turned into three. Check out the action, mystery, and fantasy now. 1036 words and a 4.0 GL.

Of Finding Oneself
Solveig Werner (Solveig Werner~eclectic, multilingual…)
Oh, what a wishful story this one is. One I believe we all would like to live. Another excellent first entry to the challenge community we’re growing here. (You all need to go check out her awesome glasses.) 548 Words and 5.5 GL.

Under the baobab tree.
Geetha Balvannanathan (Geetha Balvannanthan’s Blog)
An interesting story. I see a good social commentary on a time gone by, and in some parts of the world, still exists. 382 Words and 5.4 GL. @geethap2007

Promises
anghulinghugotero (anghulinghugotero)
A myth, folklore, fantasy, and a feel of scifi all rolled into one. At least it all seems that way to me. A great story. 1885 Words and 5.4 GL.

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes Prompt #7 Entries: THE LINKS

The order appearing is the order in which the entry was received.

GL below stands for the reading Grade Level. Harry Potter is a GL of around 5. Tolkien is around GL 6.5.

The Writers with The Links

The Newborn
by Teresa Smeigh (Writing is my Life)
Tessa makes a mad dash to the hospital with a newborn a lot less stressful in a lot of stressful ways. Humor was the goal this week and she accomplished that, even though it wasn’t where she originally intended to go with the 7th installment of her series. 281 words. GL of 5.6.

How not to start the New Year
by KL Caley (New2Writing)
A great start for our new to the challenge member. I have a bad feeling this was based on fact rather than fiction. Isn’t that where the best humor comes from? At least she can laugh about it, or maybe this was a cathartic endeavor. 283 words and 7.3 GL.

Purple Haze
by Kat Myrman (like mercury colliding…)
Hooch for the pooch brings about an intoxicating smooch. Kat pulls out all the stops in her Humor piece this week. 255 words. 6.8 GL.

Caring For Your Schnauzer by Ima Le’Amature
by Meredith Haynes (Meredith’s Musings)
This week Meredith shares a chapter from a book that’s helped her with Nick all this time. Um, sort of. Chuckles and squeaker toys abound. You know that combination can’t be good … for the owner, not the Schnauzer. 487 words and 5.3 GL.

Stag Don’t
by Ritu (But I Smile Anyway…)
Where does her mind go for these things. The next prompt might be for her to explain what happened in this one. 142 words, 3.2 GL.

Feverish-Part One
by Melissa Barker-Simpson (Author Blog)
Talk about Cats and Dogs. Melissa gives us a sci-fi/fantasy type trip here. And it’s only part one. 1003 words and a 4.6 GL.

Cat’s Rule
by R. Todd (A Flash of Fiction)
Seeing inside the minds of Cats and Dogs. This is evil. And I somehow think it just may be true. 338 words and a 2.8 GL.

The Right and the Wrong Umbrella
by Alka Girdhar (Magnanimous Word)
Alka thought there wasn’t much humor here, but she was only being modest. Her style gives a subtle touch to humor and you begin to chuckle because you see what’s coming before she tells you. Very nice. 324 words at a GL of 4.8.

Fluffy, the Matchmaking Cat
by Michelle ‘Nato’ Lunato (Chasing Life and Finding Dreams)
Seduction, romance, humor, and a cat toy? I enjoyed this one a lot. She’s got some promise. 845 words. GL of 2.4.

The order appearing is the order in which the entry was received.

GL below stands for Grade Level. Harry Potter is a GL of around 5. Tolkien is around GL 6.5.

The Writers with The Links
Digging to China
by Clarence Holm (PrairieChat)
Clarence tells a tale of something we probably all thought of when we were kids. 307 words and a 2.9 GL, this is right on track for being in the perspective of a child.

Not now but soon
by Willow (willowdot21)
A tragic story that is all too real. With emotions and dialogue that is spot on for the story, Willow’s first attempt at flash fiction is more than a success. 410 words and a 4.5 GL make this just the right level for the target audience.

A Beautiful Life
by Geetha Prodhom (Geetha Balvannanathan’s Blog)
A wonderful nonsensical sort of tale about Spinach and a lonely young lady. I wonder if the spinach has anything to do with the lonely part? Although I love spinach, as does my son. 756 words at a GL of 6.4.

Love Me Tender
by Teresa Smeigh (Writing is my Life)
A fast pace hospital room scene. Judy has to protect her husband and her mother from revenge minded gang members. 589 words. GL of 2.7.

It will rain
by Geetha Prodhom (Geetha Balvannanathan’s Blog)
You know, sometimes a story … well you can read this one and probably know where I was going. 209 words. GL of 4.3.

Candle in the Wind
by Kat Myrman (like mercury colliding…)
A story of friendship and hard decisions. If I said much more I would reveal too much. 393 words. 2.8 GL.

The hanging tree
by Sarina (Shining Seeds)
A story about school kids and dealing with a common aspect of life these days. 1409 words. 2.2 GL.

The End or a New Beginning
by Meredith Haynes (Meredith’s Musings)
A couple+A party+Late Again=What? Meredith’s first trip into the challenge. 441 words and 3.2 GL. You would swear from the amount of emotion and storytelling there would be a larger word count.

Strong Enough
by Florence Thum (Meanings and Musings)
Florence chose a poem that is a story at the same time.

Don’t Let Go
by Ritu (But I Smile Anyway…)
We have a story of an event that will haunt a person forever. Good imagery and pace. 287 words, 4.4 GL.

Christmas Stockings
by Greg Wolford (Potholes in the Road of Life)
An interesting story. Know Greg as I do I can see one possible reason for a story like this. It’s still a tough story to put out there. But I think it is a needed one. I believe parents should read them one for sure. 1441 words and 4.7 GL. I think this one read quicker than the word count might imply.
