If you’re on facebook, you can join our #BeWow Network of Writers group and share your post there. For now, it can be individual posts. In the future it might end up being under a dedicated Update for the given day. I’m still looking at all

the options to make it work the best. Also, if time permits, I’ll even share those updates through my own facebook, blog page. Why if time permits? I’m working on a novel and really want to get it done. I know a lot of you feel my pain there.

Prompt and Suggested Inspiration

Now for a suggestion or prompt of what you can do for a #BeWoW post. My post is titled “A Haiku Perspective-Annette Rochelle Aben”. Okay so this one is a little different. The quote I will be using is a little bit selfish of me to do, it’s from her latest book that came out last week, A Haiku Perspective 2015. The idea for all of you would be to talk about a worth while project you know about that helps people. Perhaps one that is a little lesser known.

Remember I will not only reblogging the first entry, there will also be a reblog of another member of the Haiku Family. Since the Haiku comes out at the same time, some of you don’t get that opportunity to write a Haiku in your sleep. So, I’ve decided to give a person a week, in addition to the first entry, a reblog here on Ronovan Writes. Make certain you check back here on your reblog for comments. They do get them.

The rules are simple.

  • Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com.
  • The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  • Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put a link back to this prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other. A link in your post does give others a chance to find us and join in. Use one of the two below if you like.

First to Offend this Week!

TJ Paris: Cry Out To Me |La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin. Last week TJ brought as three and he does so again. I didn’t put out a Haiku of my own until Wednesday as part of my #BeWoW link share. I waited because I thought TJ had figured out the Haiku I shared just after midnight my time on Mondays was a Haiku for the challenge and thus had the challenge words in it. But what does he do this time? Three again and just as fast. Man, the dude just has the flow. @Roccoco_a_GoGo

Annette Rochelle Aben (Best Selling Author, Radio Show Host): Sunshine | Annette Rochelle Aben. I figure this was either about sunshine or she was talking about herself. Elizabeth: Sunrise | Tea & Paper. The humor of this is I named Annette’s before seeing the name of Liz’s. I think she goes by Liz at times. But I know her as Elizabeth but wanted to share her preference. But anyway, I like how she came up with the image this week, and it is part of her Haiku. How the challenge sets minds to thinking and observing is fun. @teandpaper

Alice: GSimple Gestures | Boomerang Zone. Now from a lady who might bring to mind a a movie title from a 1974 film by Martin Scorsese that saw the lead actress win the Academy award, we have Alice. Fortunately she is doing the opposite of the movie titles name with us. . @Vidocq_CC

Judy: Suit to a T (Shirt) | Edwina’s Episodes. She may not be the one cast as a Frank N. Furter and no she will not be sullying the memory of a classic but this lady makes any color look good. Haiku must Fall in to her lap with as quickly as she writes them. @EdwinasEpisodes

jazzytower: Who’s Carol? | Thoughts and Entanglements. Public Relations says I should cuddle up with this Haiku. Not sure if some would approve of that, but depending on who Carol is, I might be game.

Kat: Three Cheers to Kat! | like mercury colliding. Man Kat can do. All the way from Nepal this former leader of OMRLP now spends her days enjoying words and the world around her. Her commentary of the season of the US national pastime is quite poignant considering the fate of various teams of late.

Liz: That Cheery Call | Quilted Poetry. All the way from the age defying weather of the cryogenic frozen lands of the north, comes a lady of esteem, no not the family of German actors from the early 20th Century, but a brilliant wordsmith in her own right. Her self titled Haiku could have a sub heading of Contrary Calling as well.

Jane Dougherty (Author): Sing, Sing a Song | Jane Dougherty Writes. The three degrees of Jane this week were not written about a popular Australian Trio of singing brothers, although one of their members is named and does sing. I dare say this one hit wonder of a singer has perhaps the longest charted song on record, and does not appear in a prison of the same name as the title may infer.  Check out Jane’s books on Amazon at the Author link above. @MJDougherty33

Mira:(2 links) Cheer Me Up | They, You And Me. I would love to but I’m certain there would be several to protest my attempts. I think we all fell for Mira At First Sight and have enjoyed her presence ever since. As for the Haiku, oh this one touches the heart in a deep way and reaches out to many a member I am certain.  Cheer and Joy | To Wear A Rainbow. Giving others a bit of support I do believe. Such a thoughtful lady. @BediMona

Ritu: Gone-A Tonka & Last Orders | But I Smile Anyway. No, I’m sorry for all you field hockey fans, this is not that Ritu. Perhaps after reading that last Haiku I might change my mind and think Ritu is using a fake photo and this IS the field hockey player. Nonetheless, the Tonka involved here is not the toy that brings smiles and cheer to millions of children. @PhantomGiggler

Clarence:(3 this week.) The Victim | PrarieChat. Not sure if he’s already earned his wings but I think he’s been living a wonderful life, and I bet he’s tired of hearing things like that. A story of the evils of life and love and aftermath is provided to us this week. And a second one: Susan Lucci’s Last Goodbye. Ha. Someone has been watching way too much TV this week. A third, Just In Time For Ronovan’ s Cheer and Call

Sue Vincent (Author): Recall | Daily Echo. What can you say about a beautiful woman with red hair and a list of books a mile long to her name that hasn’t already been said? No, seriously, what can you say? Let her know in the comments for her Haiku. Her story told is full of nature and will bring a rosy glow to your cheeks . . . if you hold your device close enough to your face when you read her Haiku that is. Sandra: Orange | Wild Daffodil. To praise our Flower in residence would be like Gilding a Lily, so I’ll move on from here. Daffy left us with a bit of a mystery this week with her photography. Where, what, why, and when were not answered, although normally a forthcoming individual, she was forthawaying this time. See what I mean by Make the Most of Your Post. by visiting this Haiku and noting what all she connects it to.

Steven: Thrush | Ramblings of a Drabbling Mind. Steven has been kind to us. Not only does he continue to provide his experimental Haiku but also a traditional one for those of us who need the in-your-face form.

Greg: Shouts of Joy | Potholes in the Road of Life. Sorry ladies, and perhaps some men, Greg isn’t part of Wolford Fashion so you’ll have to look for those bodysuits elsewhere. The young man brings us a message today, a message of opposing feelings, as he should have, and one that could apply to the Writer’s Quote Wednesday by Colleen. His participation, as explained in the beginning of the post shows what the community that has grown here has truly become. Two words + three lines = many friends. @greg_wolford

Janice: On a Crescent Moon | Ontheland  She may be a HÓU but that just means she’s popular. Don’t know what that means? Ah, then you haven’s snooped like the master snooper has. She’s a Monkey of Fire and all signs point to her being quite a success wherever she may find herself. Her softer side is shown in a very lovely moment shared here. I greatly enjoyed reading about what led to the Haiku being written and the fact the words were on her mind at any given point during this time speaks to me a great deal. It means a lot and is most appreciated. @ontheland1

Jen (JK): SKΆL & SALUT | The Secret Keeper. Some may wonder if JK is secretly a Rowling success in the world of publishing. That would be an affirmative. She publishes several times a week, making her a widely published author read in more countries than many of the supposed top authors of our time. A toast to our friend for her two Haiku that gives us a gander in to a life that lights up and puffs us up with (pride?). @occultguardian

Tessa: The Last Call | Writing is my life. No, not the Canadian hockey player, nor the subject of the Norwegian novel of the same name, well maybe not, I haven’t asked. She is a a writer of fiction though, and has her work on her site in chapter form for your enjoyment and convenience. Her Haiku can be happy or sad, all depending on which subject you focus upon and which formed sentence you are looking at.

Daniel Schwamm: Call on ME | Musing Life’s Mysteries. I don’t believe he Daniel is a mushroom farmer, no matter what some of you may believe to have deduced. Although that would be a tasty venture. And no, not a Kiwi farmer either, (Neither the bird nor fruit.) and I think that rather droll of all of you for assuming that a New Zealander would automatically be such. Ahhh, when I first saw the title of his Haiku it brought to mind the song Lean on Me, and although that is not the title, the message is much the same. The link is to the Bill Withers version from 1972. The image is not he that has been named, but Al Green.

Al: Cheers of the Disturbed One | Al the Author’s Blog. A well preserved sort for an early to mid 20th Century Actor, Writer, Director, and Producer in Hollywood, Al Lane now spends day as a Civil Servant while spending most of his day writing for our enjoyment. Yes, you read that correctly. Some of you will actually get it, and some will hurt me physically for implying you wouldn’t. For some unknown reason the young man decided to write FIVE Haiku on his birthday. Mostly about alcohol even when disguised as something else. 110 Cheers for AL!!! @AlistairLane

Elusive: Law of 22 Prairial | Elusive Trope. Hiding out in the wilds of PA after finding success in leasing out parts of the city with his name across the welcome signs for entertainment purposes, the Elusive one now pleases his visitors with writings and continues to grace our community each week with a Haiku offering. The Haiku is a great terror of an attempt this week. A true life or death of a read. And on his birthday as well.

R. Todd: Mockingjay | A Flash of Fiction. I didn’t want to out our friend, but Lord Todd has been found alive and his passing in 1997 at the age of 89 was an attempt to escape to the glare of public life and slink into the obscurity of the blog life. But he has been found out. My powers of deduction are beyond compare. I have not the slightest what that title for the Haiku nor the Haiku itself means. Do you? It must be some obscure reference to something he’s seen in his past life.

D.B. Mauldin (Author): Early Bird & Nature | mama bear musings. Not sure if it’s too hot, too cold or just right where she is but her Haiku seems to make me think just right. Maybe I should have eaten first before perusing that first one. At least it wasn’t spaghetti. Olga: Political Uproar | Stuff and what if. Does she have a sister or cousin who appeared with Nicholas Cage, or perhaps that relative played someone with the same name as myself? Humor over with now on with the show. Olga shows her rampant political activism she has hidden from us all this time.

Melissa Barker-Simpson (Author): Trick or Treat | M Barker-Simpson. Never knew a game show host and jailed football player had an offspring somehow but here we have the proof. Just remember to have your pets spayed or neutered or you may find some gloves near an uncomfortable scene. I believe the title gives away the Haiku meaning, as it should to some extent. Pat B.: Four Cheers for Pat | A season and a time. Imagine a famous chef Brockett in your neighborhood. Wouldn’t you want to be her neighbor? This week Pat went cheerfully nuts with commentary on the nature of life in various facets.

J Lapis:   Calls to Cheer | DarkLight Harbor. Feeling blue today or precious as a gem? No? No worries, I believe our poet has it covered. Suspense in the later of the two offerings this week. Had us wanting to throw stones from feeling so blue but pulled things out at the last moment.

Claudette: Echoes | to search and to find. Speaking of a real jewel, Claudette returns to us this week.

MAKE YOUR FONTS VISIBLE ON IMAGES.

You have a great piece of writing and a great photo to put it on. You put the words on the image and what happens? You can’t seem to find that happy color of font to show all of your words because a normal photo has a great number of colors in it. Even if your photo is the sky, you have shades of blue ranging from so pale a blue it looks white down to the dark blues to almost dusk. The answer? Overlay images.

A Note: All overlay images were found in the public domain. The actual photo of the building is mine.

Make Your Fonts Visible

One thing to know, this post is not that long, it’s mostly taken up with image examples.

How do you make it work and still see your image? You know you could put a block of color in the sky and put your text in. But that ruins what you’re going for.

I use picmonkey quite often in tandom with pixlr.com, a free photoshop like product online.

Below is a photo from the top of a parking deck on the campus of UGA. You can see the stadium lights to Sanford Stadium over the buildings in the distance. As you can see, my name doesn’t show very well across the building but very well in the sky.

Below you see the menu inside of picmonkey.com after you have loaded your image. The thing to know first is to create the overlay image/shape you want to use and then type your text. You can then manipulate all you like and the text will be to the forefront. Of course you can always do it the other way around as sort of a see through a veil or curtain affect.

A-Points to the Overlay Icon in the shape of a butterfly. The overlay does exactly as it sounds, it overlays something on top of the image already showing. You can even pull in your own image to overlay on top of the image you first loaded.

B- For the purpose of what I want to do with this image and text I’ll chose the Geometric options.

C-I am choosing the rectangular Geometric option because it actually can be manipulated to any height or width. The square, for example, will obviously adjust to remain a square.

D-You are able to make the image height taller or shorter by placing your cursor on the point along the edge and dragging the edge down.

E-You are able to increase or decrease the width by doing the same as the above but along the side edges.

F-By placing your cursor over the small circle over the top of the box and then clicking and holding down your mouse you are then able to rotate or tilt the box however you like. Something to keep in mind is making the text and box lines parallel.

G-Here you see the Editing Box for the Geometric Overlay rectangle I used.

H-There are two boxes, one for the outline of the rectangle, and then below it is the inside of the box, the part we’re concerned with today. The box will start out as black, but you can click on the box signified by “H” here and choose a color. You may first want to use the part signified by the “I” first.

I-To make the box fade to transparent you increase the Fade. I left the color as black here and you can see the letters are still more visible as a whole than before.

J-You are able to do some different Overlay manipulation other than simple fading of a selected color by choosing the Blend Modes option. Simply select the different options within and see what they do. Some are very surprising.

Below you see the final result with the box having been changed to the dark green of the trees in the background to the right of the building. I chose this color by clicking on the black box image, signified by the letter “H” above and choosing the eyedropper. I then clicked on the tree. I could have also let my cursor go over all the colors inside of that letter “H” box and the Faded Geometric rectangle would have changed colors as the cursor passed over each color.

And last we have the copyright in the sky with a red background of a box with the same blue lettering as above. Skies are difficult to have attractive lettering in and this will help you accomplish that. Something to consider with what I did here. I moved the box and text up and then tilted everything back to horizontal. Easy? Maybe for some, but what I did, to make certain the text and the box were in line with each other was drag them both to the bottom and line them up with the bottom edge of the screen. Then I moved them to the top.

You may pull in your own images as overlays by choosing the Your Own at the top of the Overlay options. Following are two examples. One is the UGA G, the image was found in the public domain. The photo is mine. It is followed by the same image with a curtain, found in the public domain, overlay over it.

You may have a lot of fun with this feature. I did have to make the G and the Curtain fit the building image. To do that all I had did was take the corner of the image and drag it to increase the size. Try it, you’ll see how easy it is. The other Overlay image options do the same thing as the Geometric and Your Own.

When you save the image, remember to rename it to something other than the original name of the image. That way you keep your original image in its original form.

You are also able to use these techniques when creating book covers.

Since the Haiku comes out at the same time, some of you don’t get that opportunity to write a Haiku in your sleep. So, I’ve decided to give a person a week, in addition to the first entry, a reblog here on Ronovan Writes. Make certain you check back here on your reblog for comments. They do get them.

The rules are simple.

  • Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com.
  • The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  • Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put a link back to this prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other. A link in your post does give others a chance to find us and join in. Use one of the two below if you like.

Three Haiku this quickly, and I didn’t even put out a Haiku of my own as a hint to what the prompt words might be. The man is insane, but takes a mean photograph. At least there was a cheerful one among the three. 🙂 My goal this week was for uplifting Haiku, or at least to nudge all in that direction.

Why Not Write a Series?

Great advice from my friend, Author Jo Robinson, Goddess Guru of Self-Publishing. I have the rough draft for book two of my Romance trilogy, and part of three as well.

Series is the new black. It seems like everyone is writing them these days. Having a published series of books is a great way to keep readers interest for long enough to have them remember your name, actively seek you out, sign up for your newsletter, or ask to be advised by Amazon when you publish a new book. I’ll be publishing the second and third books in my series at the same time either late December or early January. In retrospect I think that publishing the first book on its own was a mistake, which is why I haven’t tried to sell it so far. The time for readers to buy books in a series is directly after reading one of them, so it’s better to publish three at the same time to begin with. My book one will really only get properly launched with two and three, so…

Perseverance-Or is it love?

I’ve moved away from talking about my health issues in the specifics in recent months. I felt as though my health was becoming me. And honestly I thought I had talked it to death. Well, I wish we could talk our ailments to death. If that were the case I would have been healthy a long time ago. But anyway, I wanted to be more positive in my writing I shared. However, at times I realize one should open up and share to let others know what can be done. Things don’t  HAVE to stop you.

I’ve never given much thought to perseverance as a word to describe myself. It’s been said by others but I’ve always put it off as a kind thing to say. I don’t mean to say they were being dishonest and lying just to make me feel better by saying it, but being kind in how they viewed my situation.

Many don’t know what Fibromyalgia is, but it’s a health situation that umbrellas a great many things including Chronic Pain and Chronic Fatigue. Much more goes in to it than that, but those two cane be easily identifiable with. Combine that with Osteoarthritis throughout the spine, including the neck, herniated discs in the spine and neck, and various other ailments, life can be such a joy at times.

But then you add the concussion I suffered two years ago, a Grade 3 Concussion that led to Retrograde Amnesia, short term memory loss, migraines that never cease, yes I mean I have migraines 24/7, sound and light sensitivity, and something else I can’t remember, and you end up with a very interesting life situation.

I know of the concussion because it is a habit to know now. A journal I kept around that time, barely legible as I was writing with either hand depending on the moment, tells me what was going on. I’ve slowly begun to let it go, the specifics of things, I’m not a dweller. I’ve truly decided to move on and not allow man made guilt hold me back from enjoying life.

Why tell all of this?

I have a book tentatively set to come out in December. A second book in the final draft stage before proofing and editing, that will then be shopped around to agents/publishers. I have a fairly successful blog, a group of online friends, and much more.

No, I don’t remember my family. I remember my son. I make an effort to remember history of my life as I am told in order to fit in, or at least act as though I am normal enough in my son’s eyes so he an have a normal father. I don’t wear my sunglasses like I should, nor my earplugs to avoid looking like an oddity around him. Seeing me put into an ambulance and then following it, only to see it disappear was upsetting enough for him not to have to be reminded of it every time he looks at me.

With the very odd life I have, I still push forward. I never gave it thought as being perseverance. I wanted to write a book and have my son something in the world to say, “My Daddy did that.”

People write a book for a lot of reasons. Yes, I love writing, but I mainly want something left behind for my son to be able to hold up and always look to. I want to be able to contribute to his life in many ways.

Maybe what I’m talking about isn’t perseverance. Maybe it’s simply being a father. Maybe it’s love. Whatever it is, it has brought me this far, and I intend to keep going.

I still have to write that book he helped come up with.

The past few weeks I have drifted and I have been pushed farther away from my blogging world that I am comfortable. I felt the distance growing as days turned into weeks and it was all I could do to eek out a post or two. I was behind in reading all of my favorite blogs. Photographs taken for upcoming photo challenges sat unused in their folders on my desktop. Post ideas fell by the wayside. I was not happy with the direction things were heading but I felt helpless.

I can give you all the excuses- I was preparing my house for my oldest son along with his family to move in indefinitely. I was needed to watch the baby. I had to attend my other two kids’ college family weekends. I had meetings. My best friend moved within days of my oldest son moving in. The list goes…

#BookReview of Levant Mirage by @OliverFChase

Levant Mirage by Oliver F. Chase

You all know I don’t often cross my two sites over with each other. LitWorldInterviews is its own beast. I could count on one hand the times I recall having shared a book review here on RW, as it’s known behind the scenes. Today I wanted to share this one that I wrote for Levant Mirage by Oliver F. Chase. Why? Read on and you’ll see.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review and I’m glad I did. After having read it, I almost want to send him a check.

Levant Mirage takes snapshots from the headlines of the past few years to build a character and combines it with frighteningly realistic levant miragepossibilities to give a story you pray never happens.

35 year old U.S. Army Major Adam Michaels is no James Bond, nor did he ever set out to be. What is he? He’s a man who rejects the easy path that being the heir to a shipping empire gives him in order to join the military, serve his country, and be a father. Right, no money other than what he makes as a Major in the Army. You don’t see jet flying, limousine riding, womanizing and all of that. I would trade in the 10 year old Corolla for something a little better though. Tap into the trust fund already.

Finding himself used as a scapegoat for a foreign relations nightmare, Michaels works out his days in the Pentagon pushing papers, and paying alimony, child support and the mortgage on his rising political star ex-wife’s house. You see the everyday life to some extent leading up to the changes in life the military can throw at you. You don’t control you in the Army. And there are times when that twists the guts out of Michaels.

Michaels is of a dubious parentage, with his father not being who he thought he was, but upon finding out explains a great deal. This in part leads to his choice of path in life. He wants to be his own man. He doesn’t want to be identified with a past that isn’t really what he thought it was.

But part of that past comes back in one night and changes a quiet world into a search to find the defense against a missile guidance system he created that is now in the hands of terrorists. Which terrorists? Who is the enemy? You won’t believe it. Or you will believe it but be surprised.

The believability of Levant Mirage is what makes it so freakin’ scary at times. Perhaps the guidance system isn’t real, or I hope it’s not. But I’m sure there is something like it out there. The enemy Michaels must fight against is out of this world. If he fails, billions die. If he succeeds?

Chase writes with detail and a knowledge base that gives the story realism. You are able to submerse yourself into Levant Mirage and you don’t get pulled out by oddities and unbelievable scenes. Some scenes are high energy and amped up, but still possible.

Being honest, the amount of detail is incredible at times and I could have done with a little less of the technological speak, but it doesn’t take away from the story. In truth, it adds the believability—you don’t have these leaps from action to intellect in the span of a few seconds. Okay, maybe you do but for a whole different reason, but I’m not giving those parts away. Ah, that does remind me of one scene that did cause me pause and have to reread in order to get it clear. In part, that was due to the surprise of those involved.

I enjoyed the handling of the terrorists. As you read you’ll develop ideas but never get to comfortable, you never know what is going to happen next, who is going to happen, or what the truth is until it’s almost too late. But there are clues along the way.

RECOMMENDATION

I would recommend Levant Mirage to those who like believable action thrillers. Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt and other NUMA series books come to mind, but not that fantastical or off the charts. Where Cussler takes you over the edge of believability at times, Chase keeps you here on earth and scares the life out of you with reality you can find in your neighbors living room.

If you’re on facebook, you can join our #BeWow Network of Writers group and share your post there. For now, it can be individual posts. In the future it might end up being under a dedicated Update for the given day. I’m still looking at all

the options to make it work the best. Also, if time permits, I’ll even share those updates through my own facebook, blog page. Why if time permits? I’m working on a novel and really want to get it done. I know a lot of you feel my pain there.

First, make certain to come back and visit those Haiku that are submitted later in the week. We all tend to have our certain times to publish, don’t miss out supporting your other Haiku community members.

Can you go nature this week with your Haiku? Not a must, but it could be a challenge. Click HERE for the synonyms for Grief. And HERE for Pine. Be sure to scan down the entire page for each as you may be surprised at what you may find. My original thought of Pine doesn’t even appear till the very end.

Remember I will not only reblogging the first entry, there will also be a reblog of another member of the Haiku Family. Since the Haiku comes out at the same time, some of you don’t get that opportunity to write a Haiku in your sleep. So, I’ve decided to give a person a week, in addition to the first entry, a reblog here on Ronovan Writes. Make certain you check back here on your reblog for comments. They do get them.

The rules are simple.

  • Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com.
  • The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  • Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put a link back to this prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other. A link in your post does give others a chance to find us and join in. Use one of the two below if you like.

Life’s Plan-Life’s Purpose.

I have a lot of ideas. Too many of them actually. It’s very difficult for me to stay on one path to the goal of completion. The reasons are partly medical and partly a need to grab hold of that next big idea I have in my mind before it slips away.

We do a lot of planning. Perhaps years or even decades are put in to a plan but then the plan comes to an end. The bad part about the end is that we didn’t have that in our plan. Although it isn’t  always a bad thing when your personal plan comes to an end.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
    but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

The many plans we make are not always for our best. We travel along, sometimes staring out the window at the monotony of life passing us by and are mesmerized into complacency and routine. We believe what is may perhaps be all there is.

I have moments of indecision. I don’t mean indecision of the mind, but of the heart. No, not about love, I am certain of those parts of my life. But there is indecision about creations and taking the right step that tear at my heart. My mind does a good job with decisions and filing them away properly. It knows what to do, but the heart is the part that throws plans into chaos.

Fortunately a verse came to me today, a verse of the day, the one above. Those plans in my heart that tear at me? I need to learn to let them go. God knows the best plan. He even tells me the plan, I just don’t either always know the language/manner he’s speaking in, or am just not hearing it.

A great many things have happened in my life. One is about a young man I played football with. He was a star athlete, super intelligent. He had it all. Then one rainy game he tackled a player and with the wet uniforms, field and everything else, his neck broke.

The young man was a leader in many ways. People looked up to him. There was a bright future ahead for him. He was also a Christian.

Our team was losing badly, it was late in the game, and the other coach had asked our coach if he wanted to call the game and end it early. Our coach said no. It almost would appear that things were working against my friend from fulfilling his purpose for God and for life.

He has graduated from college, is now driving his own van, still paralyzed from the neck down, and travels to do speaking engagement to sports groups and FCA groups. That’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He doesn’t drive himself to those events, just wanted to make that clear. He’s my age and just recently was able to get a van and go through everything to be able to drive.

But God has a purpose and he uses indecision, and attempts to take away a bright and shining star to make them even brighter, IF that star chooses to move forward and upward with the purpose and the plan. My friend could have went through life in his wheelchair and no one would have said anything about it. But he had a support group, his parents, and all those who knew him to encourage and be God’s language in my friend’s ear.

I didn’t know where this was going when I first began writing. I thought it would be about my efforts to write novels. Then I put the scripture in. After that the part about my friend came to mind. He leads a more enriched life than most of us do and he is a benefit to more people than all but a handful of us will ever have the opportunity to. Well, that is unless we realize what the purpose for us is.
