BlogShares. They work.

I wanted say thank you to those you participated in the first #BeWoW (Be Wonderful on Wednesday) blogshare of Positivity. I would name names but I am sure I would leave someone out and if the truth be known, I really am positive I don’t want the messages of “what about me” coming in.

Yeah, I know that sounds bad but it happens at times. But over 20 bloggers were involved in Tweeting about #BeWoW or actually participated in the first day of the blogshare by writing posts or retweeting the posts that were shared on Twitter. I call that success for a spur of the thought thing.

There was a lot of positive feedback about the idea of it all and I look forward to the continued future of #BeWoW. Although it is specifically for Wednesdays you can use the hashtag any time and as I see it I will retweet it.

There will also be a dedicated page here on RonovanWrites to the Positivity movement where you will be able to leave a link to a post you wrote that meets that Positive, Encouraging message. Please, don’t be spammy about it. I don’t want to end up deleting things.

Blogshares are a great way to connect to other bloggers you might not ever even meet otherwise. Does it add to your blog traffic? It could depending on how well you promote the movement. Is that why I did it? No. I wanted a day of positivity as opposed to the negative things we see in the news every day.

I hope all of you will join in next week for #BeWow. Remember the hashtag is #BeWow, all one word, no spaces. And to insure your Tweeted post is ReTweeted by me, include my Twitter Handle @RonovanWrites. I noticed some things were not always properly showing up because of one reason or the other in the Hashtag.

You can also join the Hashtag as a member at Twub.com by clicking http://twubs.com/BeWoW.

Don’t  be surprised if you see mention of blogshares in my book in the works about blogging. A book suggested by one of our Poetic Angels some time ago.

A Brand New Day (A Poem)

Poetry

It isn’t really a problem

This thing inside my head

Though others think it’s tragic

I look to it for creativity instead

I’ve learned how to write

About a person who needs love

When I already have friends

When push comes to shove

I’ve learned how to like

Some brand new things

Like cheeseburger pizzas

And BBQ flavored hot wings

But in truth

What it really has done

Has made out of me

A sensitive one

I know what is pain

I know what is loss

I know that things can happen

As quick as a coin toss

And through it all

Things end up okay

Because with each new dawn

I  have a brand new day

Being Positive to See the Positive

Last week in Sorting Your Life’s Junk I talked about how the way to being a positive and wonderful me, well a better me, was how I like to place events and thoughts into  Mental Folders. I called them:

  • Awesome
  • Needs Work
  • So Not Worth It

By doing this, I am able to sort through things quickly and move on. It’s a habit. A reflex, if you want to look at it that way. Just like driving a car. You see  something brake in front of you, you don’t have to think about it, you hit your brakes to stop something bad from happening. This is the same thing. By sorting those events or interactions into folders, those emotional/mental energy vampires/leeches/parasites don’t have a chance to latch on.

But you are probably thinking to yourself there are still things in the folders and you are likely to thumb through those files at some point. Ignoring the negative things doesn’t work. I like the adage or phrase “You got to own it.”

Accept it and Deal With it

Eventually whatever it is must be taken care of. Due to a concussion I’m not allowed to drive at the moment. I’ve driven 7 minutes in the past 18 months. And that was an emergency. Am I happy?

I guess you need to take a look at happy first. Everything that needs to get done in my life gets done. So in the grand scheme of things, not driving is not a major problem for me. I have filed it and dealt with it. I’m okay with it.

Does being okay with it mean I don’t miss the ability to get up and go whenever I want to? No, of course not. But I own the situation, I understand it, and I handle it. It does not get me down.

But what about REAL problems?

I knew you were thinking that. I’ll use my Fibromyalgia. It was discovered that the debilitating pain that I had been having for more than a decade was Fibromyalgia, which runs in my family. Walking is difficult. Sleeping is difficult. Sitting is difficult. Lying down is difficult. Maybe you see where this is headed. Combine that with migraines that are 24/7 and things are bad. By 24/7 I mean they never stop, just vary be intensity.

So what do I do about that? What do I do because I miss ball games and school events of my son? I deal with it. I have a son and one to be proud of. So I can’t do everything I would like, I am still proud of him and tell him that and show him every chance I get. And he knows it. Does it get me down at times? For a moment, then I shake it off.

It’s Not All Sunshine and Peanut Butter Cups

That’s one thing we have to remember, positive doesn’t happen 100% of the time. It’s just like anything else, it’s what you do with it. I had an old pastor friend say to me once that you can look at a woman and see she’s beautiful, just don’t turn around and watch her walk away, that is where the bad part comes in.

What’s in your folders is the same way. You see it, and you deal with it. Sure, it will hit you and you might have a moment of problem but then move on and don’t look back. It’s done. It’s over.

As time goes by and perhaps the problem comes up again, you will eventually have developed the habit. File, deal, and begone. The most positive people are the ones usually who have gone through the most junk.

The Positive Results of Being Positive

Being positive has its advantages. You begin to see the positive in many situations you never saw before. You see beauty where you only saw ugliness before. And you give words of encouragement when you at one time yelled or ignored.

I’m positive positivity will bring positive things to your life.

For the next in my Positivity Day series, it’s not really a series but just me focusing on being positive, you may want to read The Importance of Being You. It’s kind of neat to see how someone grows and where their thoughts carry them on a subject in order. Do they grow or not?

Join me and several other blogger friends as we start #BeWoW Bloggers. BeWoW means Be Wonderful on Wednesday. Be Positive, Encouraging, Inspiration, and Uplifiting. If you like something positive you read somewhere, or you write something yourself, Tweet it with the hashtag of #BeWoW on Wednesday and we see it and ReTweet it and visit it ourselves to be encouraged. If you don’t like to Tweet, then share the link to that article you have or you found in a comment here so people can find it that might not normally do so.

Much Respect and Much Love to You,

Be A #BeWoW Blogger TOMORROW!!!

#BeWoW blogshare begins TOMORROW!

Write a post and tweet it with the hashtag of #BeWoW and I’ll RT it. Okay, I’ll RT it when I wake up. 🙂 And other bloggers will be RTing as well. Is RTing a word, well I mean like a social media word?

Make sure it’s a post that is positive, encouraging, uplifting. I think you get the message here. This is not for just a post you want to share. It MUST have the BeWoW message of positivity.

So what do you do?

  1. Create a post or choose one you have that meets the encouraging/positive/wonderful definition.
  2. Share that link from your blog here in the Wednesday BeWoW post I put out after midnight Wednesday EST. That way others that drop by here can go check you out if they like.
  3. When you share your post on Twitter use the hashtag #BeWoW, which I have registered and am the administrator of, on Wednesdays. We can all ReTweet what we see and like.
  4. You can include my twitter handle of @RonovanWrites in your Tweet and I will try to RT everything I see that is positive. Please don’t use this for anything but positive things.
  5. Probably Tweeting is the big part of this for some of you. You don’t HAVE to come to my post and comment, but if you would like to and get some people that don’t do Twitter, then go for it.
  6. If you don’t have Twitter, the original idea for this was for sharing amongst Blog World so drop in here and share.
  7. If you just can’t wait until Wednesday? Post and share later and just make sure to Tweet with the hashtag #BeWow and my handle if you remember and the RT will begin.

Here is my original article about it.

BeWoW stands for Be Wonderful on Wednesday. But really you don’t have to wait for Wednesdays. The idea is to post something about Wonderful on Wednesdays, though. It could be a  wonderful experience you had last week, a wonderful memory that came to you, something inspirational or motivational, maybe something encouraging, or just something that brings a feeling of wonderful to you that you want to share.ronovan writes

Each Wednesday a post will show up here on RonovanWrites about something Wonderful for me or maybe a BeWoW Guest Blogger will show up. Post a link to your Wonderful post in the comments to share with everyone.

I’ve been wanting to do a Wonderful Blogger Award but awards are very time consuming and are difficult for me, but writing about Wonderful is a lot easier. And I could even write about Wonderful Bloggers I’ve discovered as I’ve wandered Blog World.

Write a poem, a post, or pretty much anything that is Wonderful to you and share it. Look for the Post Wednesday just after midnight EST. That’s New York City time for people like me that don’t know. And if there aren’t many that post, or no one at all, my post about Wonderful will still be here. Regardless, Tweet your post with the hashtag #BeWoW and as soon as I wake up, I will start RT everything positive I see. You do the same. Share!

ronovan writes copyrightThis is the badge you can use if you like to put in your post and/or your sidebar. My side bar I found that 210×210 pixels is as large as it goes and shows everything. Why is there a copyright in the picture? My son “B” and I took the picture. He did blew the Bubbles while I was on the grown looking up at the sky. He loved popping it and splashing me with the water. Hey, I thought it was a good idea at the time. At least he laughed. And that’ why I chose it as the Wonderful image.

So what do you do?

  1. Create a post or choose one you have that meets the encouraging/positive/wonderful definition.

And if you do like the idea, please feel free to share this post by reblogging or tweeting or facebooking (is that a thing?) Goggle+ing? um, Linkedining? Okay, I’m having too much fun with this now.

Much Love

Get Positive: Sorting Your Junk.

People comment often wondering how I stay positive, how I keep doing all I do in the face of what I live with. How can I stay positive through the life I have been given?

Practice. I know that sounds a little odd but as with anything in your life practice needs to happen. I didn’t just wake up and say, I’m good. Okay, perhaps I did, but then I had to do something about it. And by ‘I’m good’ I mean I was not letting my health issues control every aspect of my life.

Deciding to change does have an instant affect. Your view of things does change. You actually begin to see MORE of the negative things of the world. But you have to learn what to do about that view. And that’s where the practice comes in.

You will change but those around you may still be those negative and less than wonderful thinking people. Therefore you need to strengthen your positive muscle.

To begin with you as you go through your day you file things into mental folders.

  • Awesome
  • Needs Work
  • So Not Worth It

You can add as many folders as you need to, but those are three that are useful. Awesome and Needs Work are fairly simple to be positive through. But how about the So Not Worth It moments? This SNWI mental folder is where you put those things that happen that are basically useless uses of oxygen. Unfortunately. most of what you experience each day will fall in to that folder. At least it will until you realize you can do something about those moments.

You will instantly recognize them and not dwell on them. They might be insults at you or your favorite celebrity. But insults are words that people use who have nothing else going for them. Insecurities are a bear to live with. And bears lash out at times.

Just let it flow. Let it flow past you, let it flow in to that mental So Not Worth It folder. You have better things to do with your mental energy.

And let me tell you, mental energy exists. Don’t believe me? Think of the first crush you had and the devastation after your heart was broken. How exhausted were you? Were you so tired you thought you had the flu? That’s mental/emotional energy that is drained from you by these positivity vampires. That drain can get you down and keep you down. Avoid it at all cost.

Once you recognize things for what they really are you can then keep them from affecting you.

Start today by being positive with yourself and not LET others affect you. Is it easy? No. Will you achieve it in one day? No. Is that being positive? Yes. I’m positive you won’t be 100% positive in your first day of trying. Humor? No.

I can tell you what helps me, but you need to find what helps you. You need that go to that place in your mind that will make things okay for you. Is it a vacation spot, a favorite book, a TV show? Are you writing a book? Work on that in your mind each time something comes up. When that negative hits, think of that positive place. Eventually you will be able to process the negativity and turn it around. But that’s for a future discussion. For today, find that positive place for yourself and practice going there. Don’t ALLOW other people to CONTROL YOU.

The road to positivity begins today.

Share and Reblog if you wish.

You are Worthy.

Ah, Spring is in the air . . . in Australia.

But I’m not in Australia. I’m in coldland. Notice I did not say Iceland, which is green nor Greenland which is ice. Yeah, I know, we all know the reason for the names. And they said my ancestors weren’t very bright. Hey, two sets of my ancestors found America before Columbus went island hopping and missed the big land mass to the west of his island disease spreading sexscapade. I’m good with it.

Today I thought I would discuss a little bit about self worth. You know, for a man who is basically unemployed and virtually disabled, I’m a busy thinking man. No, I can’t work hours and hours straight like a lot of people, but I get some things done as I can with writing. And perhaps none of it is pay worthy, but you know what? I don’t care.

You see we have worth. Some people are told they are not worth anything. Abusive spouses say it to their wives or husbands and abusive parents say it to their children. I have had to be held back from saying things in stores or quickly moved along because of something I have said for peoples fear I may have been over heard when I objected to certain words used toward children.

You know, when you’re a big man, you get away with saying things. When you’re a big man with a concussion and no impulse control over what you say, you can say anything and get away with it and back it up. No, I am not a violent man. I’ve never had to be. Look at me. I can get this really menacing look on my face. But I am actually harmless, just don’t tell anyone.

Some of you reading this know what I am talking about today. You’ve experienced it. You’ve been on the end of the abusive ‘you’re not worth a pile of…’ lecture. That can even be from an employer.

Every life has worth. I could go into my Bible and say that if God thought we were so worth arriving here as Jesus to live out a life susceptible to pain and hardships just like us and then die for our sins, then I will believe I am worth something and agree with God, but I’m not going to go into my Bible thing right now and say all of that. No siree uh uh.

I had an early life where if I had not been able to be taken out of it, I would have possibly been led down a life of believing I was not worthy of a good life. Abuse of various kinds early on, divorced parents, poverty, go on and on. But you know I didn’t know any of that until I was an adult. No one told me as a child I was not worthy, and no one has told me as an adult either.

Trolls can come out now and say what they like, I have my earplugs in due to my sound sensitivity so I won’t hear you. And I will just delete your comments if you have an issue with it. Yeah, Ron O Van don’t play that.

I want everyone to read this next series of sentences placing the emphasis on the all capitalized word each time.

I am worthy of good things.

i AM worthy of good things.

i am WORTHY of good things.

i am worthy OF good things.

i am worthy of GOOD things.

i am worthy of good THINGS.

Whenever you are going through a rough time, repeat that. No, it’s not a secret healing thing but it will remind you of something. I don’t think I need to tell you what that is at this point.

I go through this myself several times each day as I look at my situation and what it has caused, the troubles, the hardships. I know I am not really the cause of these things, but you can’t help feeling it sometimes. So you just have to remind yourself at times.

Positive thinking is not some mantra, guru thing. It’s a real thing. You have a defeatist attitude then you have a defeatist life.  No matter what you have planned for your life, be positive about it.

You can even believe it’s Spring when it’s really Autumn because it actually is somewhere in the world. But still take a jacket with you when you go out, because it gets a bit chilly, even in Spring.

Much Respect

Ron_LWI

I’m the Patron Saint of…? The Daily Post Prompt

“In 300 years, if you were to be named the patron saint of X, what would you like X to be? Places, activities, objects — all are fair game.”

Prompt from The Daily Post.

Those who come after you normally declare what you are the saint of depending on what your life message was. But I suppose I would like to be known as the Patron Saint of Encouragement. Encouragement is something we can give without it costing anything. Although it may cost in emotional energy, but I am okay with that.

Encouragement Post

I think in many cases a person works most in areas that they don’t have themselves. Oh, sure I have encouragement but is there ever too much encouragement? I mean honest encouragement, not the token encouragement. I don’t encourage people in a talent or a situation unless I honestly believe in it. I don’t like to mislead or give false hope or impressions. I let my yes mean yes and my no mean no.

A bit boring I know but it’s what I could come up with. But I really think it’s up to those who know you to determine what you would be. People could say that I am the Patron Saint of (Insert Polite Words Here Please).
