How do you become a creative and imaginative person? You free your mind. You wipe clean the day’s aggravations, disappointments, and responsibilities. During this time you’re mind will give you those moments of Ah HA and Eureka.

Morihei Ueshiba created the martial art Aikido. For him, it was not only a form of defense, but a spiritual endeavor as well. In fact he gives credit to three moments of enlightenment for the creation of the martial art.
“I felt the universe suddenly quake, and that a golden spirit sprang up from the ground, veiled my body, and changed my body into a golden one. At the same time my body became light. I was able to understand the whispering of the birds, and was clearly aware of the mind of God, the creator of the universe.At that moment I was enlightened: the source of budō [the martial way] is God’s love – the spirit of loving protection for all beings …Budō is not the felling of an opponent by force; nor is it a tool to lead the world to destruction with arms. True Budō is to accept the spirit of the universe, keep the peace of the world, correctly produce, protect and cultivate all beings in nature.”
I don’t know about all of you, but it’s when I let my thoughts go that I end up with the best ideas. There have been times a point in a book I’m writing is giving me problems. I can’t continue until I get that problem fixed. When I finally decide it will come when it comes, that’s when it comes.
You can’t trick yourself into it. You must learn to relax and know when writing, that writing is a matter of time. Not your time, but its time. If you force a plot, it will read as forced. Through time, patience, and practice, you learn how to let go and move on.
Trust me on this, I’m working on letting go at this moment with a Historical Fiction piece I am working on, and part of it came in the middle of the night as I was drifting off to sleep.

An Interesting Fact: In order to be enlisted in the Japanese military in the Russo-Japanese War, Ueshibe tied weights to his legs and stretched his spine a half inch in order to reach the 5’2″ minimum height requirement.
The reason I chose this quote today was because I searched for one to use with my challenge words on my Weekly Haiku Challenge. I searched for vast quotes and this is the one I found and enjoyed. The Haiku I created goes along with this somewhat. Tea Cups.

The Guidelines are simple.
- Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. The link above has links within it to articles about how to write Haibun, Tanka, and even a new form I created called Freku. You can also do the 3/5/3 form if you like. Write, share, and have fun. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com. (You would be surprised at how many syllables some words actually have.)
- The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
- Copy the link of your finished haiku URL in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put the URL link in the address bar of this post, if you like, within your post. Your inclusion of the link encourages others to try the challenges out, be creative, and join a community to find friends and more followers (hopefully). Since so many people participated in the challenge this week, in spite of the Holidays and vacations going on around the world, I decided I could at least take a break from having a nervous breakdown over the final phases of my upcoming debut novel release and do a right proper Review. Wish me luck, and may the force be with you.

If you posted after 11 AM EST Sunday, I unfortunately have a family thing to go to and will update the review with any additions when I return. 5 Things I Take Away From 2015.
I wanted to say thank you to everyone for this past year who made it possible for Ronovan Writes to be the success it has been. For a site that started out as a sort of therapy for myself to battle through a lot of issues, it has not only accomplished that, but much more.
I want to share a few things now.

There will be a proper Haiku Review this week.
I’ve allowed pressures to interfere with properly treating those of you who diligently participate in the Haiku Challenge with proper respect. I know there may not be a great number of extra views that come from it, but everyone does receive a few each week and a great many receive at least double digit extra views because of it, and with my dropping the ball that means some of you miss out on those extra visits.
I may not always be able to promise witty reviews with humor or the nice divisions by category, but I’ll have a review out each week from now on unless medical reasons keep me from it. I’ve only missed one so far, last week. And that is eating away at me for breaking that string. I may do one for that week anyway.

I want to thank all of you who have visited my new Author site and read the first chapter of my novel. The encouragement I’m getting is a blessing and much needed to calm the nerves. I think we all get nervous during big events in our lives. Doing this as a co-author experience is part of the stress I think, because that means I am either partly responsible for a success, or maybe the cause of someone’s lack of success. The kind words and those of you who have stated you love it and are going to purchase it has help calm me at times. Thank you.

The compromise of your ideals is a result of pressure.

Pressure is a bad thing, and a good thing. It all depends on what you do with it and when it happens. With the release date of my debut novel closing in, pressure is building.
Last night it got to the point my blood pressure was elevated to the point of my being threatened with a trip to the hospital. So I shut everything down and let my mind drift.
Here’s the funny part; my mind drifted to writing. I began writing, in my mind, a companion piece for the debut novel. You see, I love to write and create. The problem is loving your work too much.
I am proud of what I’ve written. I’ve created characters people are enjoying as they beta read. So far everyone has loved it, even those who normally are not Historical Adventure readers or Pirate readers. Although my book is not exactly the normal pirate read.
After a little time, my blood pressure went down a little. Pressure can push you to create, but it can also bring about an end to creation. I’ve taken a step back from my pressure so I can focus on the key moments I need to be able to perform. Pressure can make you miss things.
I’ve learned over the past couple of years how to shut down when those pressure moments get bad. I think its helped me get this far and I suppose I’ll keep at it.

I would like to end this year of great challenges with a great big thank you to Ronovan for hosting this challenge which has been the source of so much creativity and wonderful conversations amongst the devotees of haiku.
Ronovan’s recommendations for writing haiku are quite specific and I like this especially as it adds to the mental challenge to adhere to the structure of 5 7 5 syllables and ideally 2 separate sentences formed from lines 1 and 2 combined and 2 and 3 combined.

The Guidelines are simple.
- Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and 5 for the third, but you can use what you like. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com.
- Or you can use the 3/5/3 style instead of 5/7/5.
- What to do a little bit more with your Haiku? Read Haiku, Tanka, and Haibun. It’s all poetry to me. Learn the difference.
- The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
- Copy the link of your finished haiku URL in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put a link back to this prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other. Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling. Ronovan’s new Author Site Launch.
What have I been doing the past few days? You know I haven’t been blogging. Yes, I’ve been doing holidays with my son. He now owns my 13 year old mint condition black Fender acoustic I strummed maybe 12 times when I got it. I then went into serious baby room clearing out and painting getting ready for the aforementioned son.
But I’ve also been working on my NEW author site. It’s not perfect but it’s me.
To celebrate, I have put the first chapter of my debut novel on the site.

Arlene Francis-The first lady of television and charm.

In a recent article I noted Dorothy Kilgallen asked “Why can’t I be the adorable one?”; the adorable one in the situation was Arlene Francis, her co-panelist on the game show ‘What’s My Line?’. It wasn’t a competition or an intentional attempt by Francis to be the charming and personable one; that was how she was.
A great many women are seen as the groundbreakers of Television; the name Arlene Francis doesn’t appear among those names to current generations. Arlene Francis was:
- Hosted ‘Blind Date’ from 1949-1952 on ABC and then NBC, after being the radio host of the same show since 1943.
- A panelist on ‘What’s My Line?’ from 1950 until 1975 on CBS.
- The editor-in-chief and host of ‘Home’ from 1954-57, a one hour morning show that was a show for NBC viewers to compliment the ‘Today’ and ‘Tonight’ shows. She also stepped in for ‘Today’ show hosts as well as guest hosted the Tonight Show.
- In 1954 she hosted the reality show ‘The Comeback Story’ on ABC.
If you read that closely, you see she was on all three networks at the same time.
And all of those were sidelines. She was also a Broadway star, movie actress, radio host, and author.
During the 1950s, Newsweek put her on the cover as the “first lady of television”. You need to remember something very important about this time; Lucille Ball was a big hit with ‘I Love Lucy’.
People naturally loved Arlene. She didn’t try or take herself too seriously to the point of not being able to have fun in front of the camera as herself. Then there was that strength you knew would come out when it needed to.
Her radio career predated television, and her The Arlene Francis Show ran from 1960 to 1984 where she interviewed people from her first guest in Rock Hudson through others such as Frank Sinatra.
Her husband wasn’t the tall, dark and handsome type, although a great Broadway actor. No, he was short, balding, slightly overweight, wore glasses, and an average sort looks wise, but highly intelligent. That was another part of her charm; she went for the real and what she liked, not image. She and Martin Gabel stayed married from 1946 until his death in 1986.
You don’t stay the love of the public for so long without charm. Dorothy Kilgallen was smart, tough, and personable enough, but you could see her trying hard to be something a bit more; she wanted acceptance in a way she wasn’t. On ‘What’s My Line?’, you would see Dorothy and Arlene alternate sitting next to Bennet Cerf, the founder and publisher of Random House. Dorothy would wear on Bennet’s nerves, and you can see him ignore her suggestions. Everyone wanted to sit next to Arlene. She was fun, and not intrusive.
I think Dorothy was never comfortable in her own skin, while Arlene was comfortable anywhere.
For a woman known for knowing so much, her life came to an end in 2001 from cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Santa by Moonshine

It came upon a Christmas Eve, when Santa was sniffly and blowing into his sleeve.
The reindeer had done run out of steam, for their feed for flying was chili pepper hot cocoa with cream.
The nine North Pole pundits of spirituous glee—trudged through the briars and more than one snow covered evergreen tree.
Dasher was close to stopping for the day; he was tired of pulling that big toy loaded sleigh.
Then what to his bleary sleet coated eyes should appear, but a one-room cabin with a 1970 blue Jeep Wagoneer.
Santa knocked on the door of that haven of rest, hoping he looked his jolly good best.
The door opened to reveal a true sight, a bearded main dressed head to toe in glowing bright white.
“Hello, there fellow, my name is Santa; I was wondering if you could give us shelter and some sparkling Grape Fanta?”
The man looked at the jolly old elf, from the top of his head down to his ample red felt covered shelf.
“I believe I may help with your winter wonderland plight, come in come in and I will bring about a true delight.”
A fire was blazing inside of that one big room, and it was quite toasty with eight reindeer and two men with whiskers like from a broom.
“What seems to have brought you to my place out here in such a storm?” The man did not waste time with settling down his ample form.
Santa looked around from his chair by the fire; the man over him wore flannel and denim for his Christmas Eve attire.
“The snow is a bit thick and our radar is full of hacker spam, then my reindeer ran out of juice from their flying dust infused special strawberry jam.”
The tall man nodded, as though this was a common thing. He circled the button on his shirt round and round like a ring.
“Then I am for certain got something you need, but it’s not some fancy special concocted reindeer flying feed.”
Dasher snorted, and sniffed, and nudged up to his weary but comfy boss. Santa listened and stood before old Dasher could give him a firm toss.
“It seems my fine fellows here would be interested to know, what it is you might have that will make them get up and go.”
A smile and wink and the man slipped out the back, Santa looked outside, but the snow covered every track.
He ate another bowl of some kind of stew; he had not asked what was in it, for fear of upsetting his crew.
The door banged open and in walked a snow heap; the white powder fell off after one giant leap.
“Now here is what I have that should help you get going, and you best do it now, because there is an increase in the snowing.”
Santa took the mason jar, and turned it to the side; it was then that he saw a transparent liquid inside.
“You think water will help on a night like this? If you think melted snow will work then I think your idea is a miss.”
Santa set the jar down by his chair next to the fire; the man rushed forward as if something was most dire.
“Put that next to something like a flame, and you’ll not have to worry about deliveries, and for that I don’t want the blame.”
It was then Santa got the hint of a clue; one eyebrow rose then with a knowledge they numbered two.
“Oh, ho, ho, ho, I believe I now see; and if you please let me borrow a spoon we’ll be letting you be.”
“Keep the silver, it’s stainless steel, I got it at a dollar store, it was quite a good deal.”
Santa have each of his antlered engines two big full spoons each, then put the jar far out of harms reach.
Each of the reindeer licked and flicked their tongue; the liquid energy was making their tasters feel a bit numb.
“That stuff will protect them from the cold as well; when they get to going you best hold on or there’ll be another kind of Santa story to tell.”
Outside the cabin, the two men hitched up the sleigh, and with a call of each name, the reindeer shot up and away.
The deliveries were made with time to spare; no one even knew presents were almost not there.
Arriving back home to his place way up north, Santa walked through his home and shouted and called forth.
His wife appeared with a surprised look on her face. “Dear, you’re home so soon, was it some kind of race?”
With a twinkle in his eye, and a jingle of his bells, the lights went out, and Mrs. Claus wondered if her man was under some spells.
A giggle and a tee hee, and off the hat went, and in the moonlight, you could make out the empty mason jar’s glint.
