Free Book Alert! This weekend only, The WorldMight is FREE!!!!!

FREE BOOK ALERT! FREE BOOK ALERT!

I GOT MINE!

Hello everyone,

I have some GREAT news. Yeah, it’s a FREE BOOK! The heading up there might have given it away. I love free books.

I know you remember Cyril Bussiere, author of The WorldMight who I interviewed not long ago. Well guess what.

His book is FREE this weekend for download at Amazon! That’s right, I said FREE!! I’m downloading it and as soon as I read it I am going to put in a review of it.

A couple of quick things from Cyril about the book that I didn’t ask him before. Yeah, I did an author interview and I didn’t ask much about the book. We know lots about Cyril though. Yeah, I still hate him . . . smart, plays guitar, and speaks French with the accent.

RW: What genre doecopyright_Cyril_Bussiere_All_Rights_Reserveds The WorldMight fall into?

CYRIL: The WorldMight is a fantasy rich of mysteries, romance, and mysticism that unfold in parallel stories.

RW: Tell our Reader Friends about those parallel story perspectives.

CYRIL: One follows a mysterious prince walking the world in search of a mystical word; a word that has never been said, a word that would free his love from the clutches of a mythical beast. With love as his only fuel and compass, he will go further than humanly possible and overcome countless dangers and obstacles arising both around him and from within.

The WorldMight also follows the story of Aria, the reluctant princess of the Kingdom of Alymphia, her best friend, Cassien, the weapon master apprentice, and her brother, the king-to-be Prince Hobgard, as they get ready for the upcoming Fall Passing Festival. The celebrations are fast approaching and merriment can be felt throughout the kingdom. But events that occurred decades prior are about to come crashing on their lives; events involving terribly powerful beings, the beloved and wise Master Baccus, and Aria’s father, the good King Hedgard.  And once all is said and done, their world will be changed forever.

 ~~~
I want to thank Cyril Bussiere for this quick description of his book The WorldMight that you can’t find on his website or Amazon, just right here.
The WorldMight Cover
Remember July 26-17 you get The WorldMight FREE at Amazon for download. And when you finish reading it, be sure to give an honest review as thanks for the book. No, he didn’t ask me to say that. But hey, wouldn’t you want your friends to give a review?
Nishi's avatarThe Showcase
The Farmers Wife or shall we call her Mrs Farmer was getting dinner ready at home..It was almost midday and the farmer household was quiet. The oldest of Mrs. F’s six was out in the field with Mr. Farmer and the little ones were at different spots all carrying out their allocated chores after they had come back from school. There was absolutely no dearth for work around the house and no one was too young to do their part.
She moved around the kitchen whilst preparing dinner. The Farmers were having meatloaf that evening and as she heard the kitchen timer ding, using her oven mitts she took out her signature dish out of the oven and slowly placed it on the kitchen counter. As the delicious aroma filled her kitchen, she turned to where the carving knives were placed and she could’nt help feeling a tingling sensation pass…
Female Focus Friday: One Q&A from Allison of Long&Luxe.
Yes everyone. You can assume correctly. A full interview is coming with Allison from Long&Luxe. One of her answers was worth an article of its own. Really several were, but I decided to give everyone a look at this one today since it’s Female Focus Friday. Look for her interview next week. You don’t want to miss it. Not because of my questions but because of her answers.
Now for the question and the answer for today.
allison_long_luxe
RW: I mentioned spirituality earlier, many people are hesitant to group spirituality along with sexy, but that’s part of your blog, part of your bio page. How do you connect the two?
ALLISON: I LOVE this question! How cool that you bring this up, Ron. I hope you don’t mind my using this interview as the chance for me to finally say something publicly that I’ve been wanting to say to our society in general for a long time: I am so over your sexy. I am so over a cultural view that distorts our sexuality to the point where we internalize and degrade our very beings as measureable commodities. I am over the nonsense – wherever it comes from– that brainwashes us into thinking that our most sexy goods are body parts. Trust, I dig a good-looking person as much as the next hot blooded 35 year old blogger but we have got to stop the body dimorphic insanity that is crushing spirits the world over.
Here’s my humbly ferocious feeling on this: spirituality IS sexy. And sexiness IS spiritual. Show me a person who is deeply in touch with her soul and her personal goodness; with his authentic power and strength; with her deeply divine-rooted loving potential; and I will stand up and applaud their sex appeal. Doing things from your soul with grit and determination is damn sexy. Watch someone painting lost in the artistic expression of the moment, watch someone dancing with intricate skill, read someone’s clever poetry or soul creations, listen to someone telling the hard but necessary truth without apology, feel your heart race when you listen to the ethereal voice of your favorite singer and tell me that stuff isn’t the definition of sexy.
Sexy is a spark – it’s the spark of daring to own the space where your humanity meets your divinity. It’s visceral, it’s creative, it’s about beauty and emotion and pleasure. “I’m so over your sexy” means you will not make me feel ashamed about myself for wanting to rock out with the beautiful creature I am. It’s who we are. I can be sexy in a swimsuit or a track suit. It’s not up to anyone else. And it’s not measurable in numbers. And if we have to take any more clothing off just to feed the manic media machine we’ll have to start putting up our x-rays. I’m over it. Whew – thanks for letting me get that out!
Remember to look for her interview next week. Some great answers for you all.
And Follow her on Twitter at .
Female Focus Friday: Things Men Need to Know About . . . The When and Why to Shut Up . . . During a Vent
Guys, take it from me, the man who knows . . . Women want us to Shut Up.
Not a major revelation, since I imagine most of us have heard those words, or close to them . . . a few times. But I’m not talking about those times when you . . .
  • Are about to announce the name you’ve picked out for your child that you promised not to mention to anyone.  (This usually is also  accompanied by a bruised shin that occurs from underneath the restaurant table.)
  • Or when you start telling that joke in front of her parents you just know is wrong. (Yes, never tell the mother-in-law the joke about the Secret Service discovering who peed the words The President Sucks in the snow outside the White House. Yes, being OJ Simpson at the time was funny, and yes it being in the First Ladies handwriting was also funny. But still . . .)
  • Or when you are about to tell your mother the truth about what your wife thinks of one of your mother’s specialty meals. (See results of the first type of shut up moment.)
No, I’m talking about the truly important times to shut up. Bruises will heal. Some scarring may occur, depending on the shoes worn or the length of the nails as they dig into your hand if a kick is not available. There are things worse, much . . .  much worse.
So let me give you . . .
Things Men Need to Know About . . . The When and Why to Shut Up . . . During a Vent
lemmon_mcclain
First you need to know that whatever the stage of the relationship, they have to let things out sometimes. If you read all those magazines and watch all those talk shows like Oprah you will know pretty quick that “They are like  Stars” and “We are like a . . .” well it rhymes with Venus. At least that’s how it seems when it comes to handling those talk times. We are insensitive. At least that’s how we’re portrayed. We’re not insensitive. We’re just not trained right.
FGdogsleep WAKE UP! This is important. Pay attention.
You know the talk times I am talking about. She’s had a bad day, and she needs to talk, and you half mindedly listen and give your advice on how to handle the situation. Before long you realize that either 1) you are alone in the room, b) you are being glared at, or the most likely 3rd) you don’t notice a thing and keep talking as you watch the game assuming you have done something amazingly helpful.
Men if you are reading this and you identify with the first two or believe she was happily listening as you spouted wisdom between screams at the coach on TV for his bad play calling and crunches of nachos while still advice spouting then I advise you to keep reading.
The scenario:
You walk into the room and your Significant One does NOT look happy. She doesn’t give you the ‘what the frilly hoohaa have you done this time’ look, so you start breathing again. Now you do the only correct thing of the next several minutes to two hours that you will do. You ask, “What’s wrong honey?”
She will do of two things:
  • She will say nothing is wrong, and you will either stupidly accept that, or you will rightly be sensitive and ask her what is really wrong, knowing you will probably regret it, but you love her and must continue.
  • Or she will immediately begin telling you what is wrong without any further prompting.
Now we enter the ‘Shut Up Zone’. Men, I know it’s difficult, but in time you learn. At times you will forget, but for the majority of the time you will make your life easier. Follow these basic rules of ‘Listening to your Significant One Vent’.
The Reasons you need to Shut Up are . . .
#1
. . . so you can listen. Listening accomplishes a lot of things.
  1. You need to know what is actually going on for the test later. (The test will be unannounced and at any moment within the next 2 days to 55 years.)
  2. Another reason is to know when she is actually speaking specifically to you. If she pauses and stares at you, you best be ready with, an “of course, you’re right”.
#2
. . . so you can remember not to give advice. Men, the Significant One does not want your advice. If they wanted advice they would call their mother or their best friend, neither of which you are. Oh, you think you are her best friend?
Men, we like to think that. We may even believe that. But the truth is, once you become the Significant One’s other  there is a change in the dynamic. There are things that can no longer be said or shared for fear of hurting our masculine pride. Don’t believe me? Okay, your significant other is thinking of Johnny Depp while kissing you. And that ‘mmm’ sound, was not meant for you. How do you feel now? Point made.
#3
. . . so you can remember not to try and solve the problem. Men, they don’t need us to solve their problems. In fact if you listen well enough, you may realize there is no problem. We are the ones that created the mythical problem by asking what the problem was. In reality there probably wasn’t a ‘problem’. They just need to vent. If you do not ‘Shut Up’ you will then create a . . .
Wait for it.
. . .  BIGGER problem . . . YOU. As for solving a problem, if they want us to help they will ask us to help. (A secret, they usually don’t need any ‘help’. Yeah, like I said, just shut up.)
#4
. . . so you can tell when the vent is over. Men, you’ve listened well, but have you paid attention. The vent is over and you are sitting there staring at her. This will lead to a couple of dangerous possibilities;
  1. It is assumed you were not paying attention and zoned out,
  2.  Or your opinion may be asked, although only on a rare occasion.
Do not, I repeat, do NOT give an opinion. Agree and say that you totally agree. I REPEAT, DO NOT GIVE AN OPINION!
“But DUDE, she ASKED FOR MY OPINION!”
“DUDE, SHE IS ASKING YOU TO AGREE!!!”
#5
. . . so you cannot ask questions. Men, shut up and just listen. Don’t ask a question because you will do one of two things;
  1. Make her mad that you interrupted
  2. Or you will send her off onto another vent before she comes back to the main vent
I repeat . . . Shut Up.
How will you know the vent is over? I will make this simple for the moment, although this could be an entire article of its own.
  1. Know the Significant One’s body language
  2. Listen to the voice for a change in pitch
  3. Finally notice the vein is no longer protruding wherever it protrudes and the shoulders are no longer up around the ears from tension and the hands have stopped waving
You may ask, “Ronovan, how do you come by these freshwater pearls of wisdom. ”
Oh young grasshopper mint cookie. Though the waters may appear calm, even this tiny grain of sand in the great ocean of the male population irritates. You either become a pearl, or you are spit out.
As for the Significant Ones reading this today, I ask, are there other reasons to add to the “Shut Up” list? Please advise. We really need to know.
The ever Needy and
Much Respectful
Female Focus Friday: Women Rock! Rock out that is.
When you are a young man, boy, or middle grade kid girls are a wonder. They are this fascinating creature that suddenly stirs your blood and sets you on fire. For me it was Friday and or Saturday night roller skating every week. Most of my concentration was focused on hanging onto the railing as I tried not to fall at first and also attempting to keep from breaking an arm as it slipped through the railing as the inevitable did occur.
Back then the hottest girl I knew at the rink was the one that took me there. She was my ‘babysitter’. Men, if you are reading this, you know what I am talking about. Wasn’t your babysitter like the amazing goddess in the tight jeans with that perfect hair? sigh Jeans were made so she could wear them.
Anyway, other than the ‘babysitter’ there were the girls at school who were soft and pretty to look at. But then there were the stars of the radio. Sure there were a lot of great lady singers. My parents were into country, or at least my step dad was. Sorry, but Dolly Parton really didn’t do it for me. this was when her hair was bigger than her breasts. And still I am not fascinated by her at any age.
But who did fascinate me? Two women who could kick every hard rock metal acts . . . tail.
For those of you who don’t know the group let me introduce you to . . .
HEART
heart_ann_nancy_wilson.jpg
I’m not here today for a complete history lesson. I’ll just say that Ann Wilson is one of the greatest Rock voices of all time, and highly underrated. A face with a voice and a body with a guitar, that’s what many in the industry thought of Ann and Nancy Wilson respectively. Rock Goddesses, fantasy of men now as old as well, you name it. Spanning through five decades, the now Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members have done it all and accomplished it all.
Let me give you just a handful of their hits:
“Crazy on You”
“Magic Man”
“Barracuda”, written by Ann Wilson, the elder sister and the face with a voice, after a reporter suggested the sisters were sex partners.
How big was Heart at this point in the late 70s? They performed at the very first Texas Jam. Who else played; Aerosmith, Van Halen, Ted Nugent, Journey, and others, that’s who. That tells you how big they were.
heart_nancy_ann_wilson.jpg
Some of you are wondering who Heart is. You’ve heard Ann Wilson even if you don’t realize it. Have you seen the original Footloose? Remember the song Almost Paradise? The lady singing on that, yeah, that was Ann Wilson of Heart.
They hit a slump in the early 80s but then came roaring back. Before I leave you with a song, Ann can still do it, even spanning five decades, the lady has the chops. Oh and what idiot ended up divorced from Nancy Wilson in 2010? Director Cameron Crowe.
I changed my mind about just one song. Take your pick . . . oh, pick both. It would be like pulling a Cameron Crowe to just listen to one.
Barracuda (1977)
How to turn your Readers OFF.
What_The.jpg
What the . . . Pho? I bet you thought I was going to say something else, right? Well maybe not considering this is my blog and you don’t see me using language of that sort. One reason you don’t see me using it is because I don’t use that language in life. First of all, I’m not going to be getting preachy here. That’s not what this is about. I want to help you get more traffic through your blog’s doors.
The ‘What the . . . Pho?’ is actually a noodle restaurant that some friends and I just love the name of because here in America we have naughty minds at times. We can say this and people around us just look at us funny. One of the friends played the organ/keyboard in church and he would look over at me and I would mouth the phrase and he would suddenly bend over in convulsions doing all he could to focus on his music. The other friend was the choir director. He had learned long ago not to look at me. Yes, I tended to be a little mischievous if the time was okay to do so.
“So ‘What the . . . Pho?’ do you know about this and ‘What the . . . Pho?’ does this have to do with blogging?”
I’m glad you asked.
How to turn your Readers OFF
One of the first decisions you need to make when you create a blog or even when you begin writing an article for publishing is . . . “Am I doing this to get more people to read my writing?”
“I write for me. I don’t write to satisfy others!”
We like to say that but that isn’t always true. If you have a blog and want to bring people to it, then . . . yes you are writing for them in a manner of speaking. Here are tips to turn your readers off, depending on the type of blog you have. I am going with a blog type that has the average person who wants a nice, safe place to go for entertainment.
#1
Put Profanity in the Title of Your Article
You probably have never even really thought of doing that, but I’ve seen it and it instantly turns me away. It doesn’t even make me curious about the article. It could be by the Pope and I still wouldn’t read it to see what medications he’s on.
If it happens enough, I stop bothering with that blog at all.
RonNoBeard BW“Ronovan, you’re a prude!”
Ron Cover ShotFar from it my Friend. I enjoy all types of blogs, I just respect intelligently put together content.
#2
Articles Laced with Profanity
Notice I said ‘laced’, meaning filled with it. I’m not a fan of proFANity. Yes I made a pun. I am chuckling on the inside. Seriously. Can’t you tell? You’re screens should be shaking now. Okay, maybe not. I do however understand while reading something real life that words happen. Sometimes a word may fit a situation. I may choose another word while another person chooses a different word. No big deal.
I have a problem with the articles that are laced with it as shock factor. It doesn’t match what I know of the writer. It doesn’t match the piece being presented. It was placed there in an attempt to either shock, evoke humor, or just for no reason at all.
RonNoBeard BW“We can say what we want, stretch our wings, and experiment, you dork!”
Ron Cover ShotVery true, and I experiment as well. I just know myself and what my Friends have come to expect and I will stretch my wings within that boundary and at times it’s more challenging to do so. Write a sensual poem that conveys a lot without saying much in sexually. It’s a fun challenge.
#3
Being Derogatory
I write poetry where I slam bullies and the like. I don’t spend an entire article running down a people, a country, or a system or a mental of physical illness in generalities. Yes, there are times when certain articles need to be written. However, they need to be written in an intelligent and rational manner or the reader tunes out, turns away, and turns the channel.
If you are going to do it, pick your battles so people hear you. Run things into the ground and your words become a blur. That is unless you are targeting that audience who only wants to read about that issue.
RonNoBeard BW“Ronovan, there are certain things that are just clear cut!”
Ron Cover ShotThe issue may be clear cut but the entire story never is.
#4
Back to Profanity
If you are going to use a word then wait for it. Build up your reader, hook them in, get their support, and then when you throw the word in, it isn’t AS MUCH of as a turn off. It might still happen, but less likely.
RonNoBeard BW“If I use the words I want at the beginning it grabs their attention!”
Ron Cover ShotDo you want respect as a writer or attention as a shock hack?
I would go for a 5th one just to make it a Top 5 list but that’s pushing it and pushing you to read something weak. So I’m not going to do it. I’ll stop with 4.
Keep your articles clean and professional and only use certain words when you honestly believe they need to be used. I’ve stopped following several blogs of late for multiple headlines using certain words. And if you know me you know I follow lots of people of all types and language use. And there are even a few articles that are laced with profanity that make a point, but it’s rare, and I slowly begin to shy away.
I hope this article proved useful to you. If so, leave me a comment, so I know I’m helping you out. Sure a ‘like’ works as well, but I like to hear from my Friends at times.
If you found this helpful you can also find other tips by clicking here.
Diversity in action . . . I gotta problem.
Diversity in writing is a movement sweeping through the publishing industry. And I have a problem with it.
I want to talk comic books for a moment. No, don’t leave. You’re a writer. Comics aren’t what they used to be  . . . for better or worse. So stay with me on this. You’ll see where I am going momentarily, maybe.
Thor is a Wfemale_thor.jpgoman
“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” says Marvel editor Wil Moss.
sam_wilson_captain_america.jpg
Captain America is African American
“For most of his professional life, Sam has worked as a social worker, so he’s seen the worst of urban society up close, and how crime, poverty, lack of social structure and opportunity can affect the community.”-Editor Tom Brevoort
I’m from the South. What do you think my problem here is?
Take your time, gather your thoughts.
Now toss them out the window.
Yes I intentionally led you down the wrong brain drain. Anyone that knows me and has read my other offerings here on RonovanWrites knows how I feel about all people.
So what’s my deal?
#1 Thor is a Nthor.jpgorse god of mythology, not a goddess. Yeah, I know it’s a comic book, but still. Try it with Muhammad. “Oh, but Muhammad was real.” Give me another point. Jesus was real also. So let’s not get into religion. More than likely this will be a temporary deal. Who knows?
#2 Captain America? He, in the form of Steve Rogers, the original Captaicaptain_america_100,jpgn America is my favorite comic book character of all time . . . seriously. I have Captain America 100 from the 1960s in a frame, his first solo titled gig in the modern era. I even have a small statuette of him. My son has been him twice at Halloween, the first time he had a pacifier. Cute? Of course, how could he not be? Is that the problem I have, that my favorite character isn’t my favorite character inside the suit any longer? Nope.
Do I have a problem with an African American in the uniform? Nope.
It’s Sam Wilson, the Falcon,
sam_wilson_falcon.jpgCaptain America’s off and on partner for a long time, who even shared the banner on the book for a number of years. I got no problem with it. He’s the first person Rogers has hand picked as his successor. He represents the beliefs like Steve Rogers did.And in the mid 1980s he had awesomely cool costume. He’s the first African American hero in comics.
One thing the press release said was that Sam was more in touch with the modern man and the problems of society, that he didn’t grow up in the 1930s like Steve Rogers, who has been aged somehow in the comics. Yeah, Steve grew up in the depression so I guess he doesn’t know anything about the problems of the world today and the economic situation. Yeah, note the sarcasm. Please. When you have people running the show that just don’t get it, you end up with explanations that don’t need to be given.
They say this has maybe been in the making for two years. Okay, I’m good with that. I just don’t like the gimmicks.
I just like Steve Rogers in the role. I didn’t like Bucky Barnes, Cap’s original partner, playing the part either. Is that still the reason I don’t like the change? Nope.
So what’s my problem?
Marvel is making change for money. No, they are not, in my opinion making a statement in regards to society. They are writing to just get in on the diverse market and it is sickening. I know that’s how it works but it still sickens me. It sickens me as bad as when they started allowing swearing in main stream comic books. Yeah, I stopped collecting. I protested it, me, Mr. 100 + books per month.
I don’t take the comic book industry lightly. Where did I learn a large vocabulary at a young age? Why from The Fantastic Four and Reed Richards of course. Comic books teach. And what are they teaching now? Sell out.
the_three_musketeers.jpgI have other classic books in comic book form like The Three Musketeers and the like from the 1960s as well. No I wasn’t born until after the 60s. I just liked comics.
It’s obvious and obnoxious to me. Yeah, I wanted to be a comic book writer at one point, and still would like to. I would even like it at Marvel, but hey, blogger boy gotta speak his blogger mind on his blog. So if Marvel is reading, I understand if you turn anything down I might send your way some day. And yeah, oddly I had a diverse book idea for you.
But you don’t take a real social issue and then do this with it. You have diverse characters aplenty at Marvel. Just putluke_cage.jpg your money in them and your support. Power Man (Luke Cage) and Iron Fist were two of the coolest characters. Power Man was African American and look what you did with his character the last time I was around. You turned him into a book that kids couldn’t read.
You want to give books to kids with diversity in it? Don’t switch the characters in the safe books. Instead make the characters you already have safe. But then . . . comic books aren’t for kids are they?
That’s my Opinion
RonovanWrites Blog site changes and additions.
If you’re observant you may have noticed a bit of redecorating around the old homestead. The first thing that might catch your eye is the big ugly brute in the top right corner hiding in the dark.
The big ugly brute is gone. It was freaking people out. Apparently he looked just to weird to some. You can still see him as my Twitter cover photo. If you are on Twitter then you don’t scare easy.
I decided I was hanging my head in pain, shame, or prayer, or the many other things people had suggested to me over time. Instead you now have only yourselves to blame for the results. To be honest I am a bit proud of the simplicity of it. But then I have been called a simpleton. Perhaps this fits.
Next you will notice that with the addition of my mug above, the About.Me photo is not there to the right. One of me is more than enough for anyone. You can still click on the About.Me to go to that page and see my lovely self in all my black and white glory.
With the brute gone from the Header I returned the About.Me photo. Duct tape works well covering him up.
I think everyone knows about the Haiku Challenges Guidelines Page. A bit self explanationary don’t you think? Yes, I made the word up. Don’t hate because you didn’t creatiate.
Finally we come to the Most Liked Post And Pages section on the  side bar over there on the right. I like to experiment with the features and thought why not give it a try.  I think I will have more fun with it than anyone. Just to see what makes it into the Top 10.
There will be other things coming up. A surprise here or there, but that is down the line. Never tell too far ahead or your brilliant idea will end up dead.
That’s it for me, myself, and the one eye I have barely open.
I’ll see who is paying attention here. If you are American and living in another country now and have been for a reasonable amount of time, please either comment below, DM me in Twitter, or even send a message through that big thingy in the About Me page.  Comments are good but can get lost in the hecticocity of my being. BOOM, I did it again. Word master.
As I pass on I leave you with this bit of wisdom;
Life may include what comes to you, it may even be in part what you make of it, but it will always be what you leave behind as you make your way through it that people will remember . . . for good or ill.-Ronovan
Quick reminders:
3 Lines of poetry with the first line having 5 syllables, the second 7, and the third 5. If you get stuck, visit the Haiku Challenges Guidelines page. You need to insert words such as ‘the’ where they fit. Keep the syllables in mind.
Post your Decipher in the comments. You can guess as many times as you like, but please don’t look at the other guesses if you are going to make additional guesses. That just wouldn’t be fair, now would it?
Enjoy And Happy Picture Hunting
Inside the Life of . . . Amanda Lyle, Blogger extraordinaire.
Must read blogs are rare. We all have blogs we like to read, but then there are the cannot miss blogs. What websites or blogs keep me coming back for more? Sites with entertaining content that give real life moments in humorous ways at times, but can surprise with a bit of the serious and the deep of the  heart. There are a few of those out there but one that I find very entertaining, primarily due to the personality that breaks through every paragraph is Insidethelifeofmoi. Now to introduce the star . . .
Meet Amanda Lyle
Ron Cover ShotRW: Amanda your bio says that along with your blog you also have three bambinos and a husband? I didn’t know you were Italian.  How do you manage all that and a blog?
Twitter_Amanda_Lyle_copyrightAMANDA: I feel like I’m in the ‘cirque du life’. I’m juggling fire, I have a few plates spinning, and all whilst walking a tight rope. It’s difficult to keep those plates spinning. It’s almost impossible to juggle fire without getting burned. When I started blogging I was writing a lot more, 3 or 4 times a week, in fact. As my blog grew in popularity, it meant I had to devote more of my time, time as a mum, I didn’t really have. The way I managed things, was to reduce my posts to twice a week. My number one priority is obviously my children…and my husband! (he might be reading this!) I generally write in the evenings when my husband is watching the football, or some gangster, too-much-shooting-and-dying-for-my-liking, film. So, to answer your question, it is very difficult, but I find it equally rewarding.
Stop my Mind from Wandering. It means what you make of it.
Do y’all ever wonder if you’re wrong or right? Or maybe if your right where you belong? Do ever get the lyrics to a song wrong? Yes you do. Admit it.
The classic is Iron Butterfly’s Ina-Gadda-Da-Vida. It is 17 minutes long in its original form and is the entire second side of the album by the same name. It went on to be the first album to receive Platinum status. What do you think it says? In A Garden of Eden? In The Garden of Eden? In A Garden of Evil?
I’m not here to talk about Iron Butterfly or misunderstood lyrics. Instead, today I want to talk about lyrics and what they mean to the listener. One of my favorite songs is about a leaking manhole and crazy fans. Doesn’t sound like a very good reason to like a song, does it? And especially not a good reason to be reading an article.
For me the song takes on another meaning entirely. The song was recorded by the Beatles in 1967, written by Paul McCartney. It appears on the album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. An album with many reasons to be written about and one of which I will delve into one day for y’all.
I’m formatting my ebook into a paperback using the cover creator in CreateSpace, and I can’t decide on the colours.
The covers are in the same order as the questions.
My Writing: The What, the Why, the How, and one other thing I forget . . .
Participating in a Blog Hop is something you can’t turn down. I guess you can, but when . . .
 Jenna Willett of Jen’s Pen Den
Jenna_Willett
@JensPenDen
. . . asked if I would participate, how could I say no? I doubt she hears no very often. She’s a great source of a lot of writing advice. She finds the articles and then posts them with her own comments from writing experience and links back to the articles she’s found. She’s not just a sharer, she’s a liver of it, and a doer of it. She’s living in our world of writing. Definitely click the Link above the top photo for her answer to the questions I’m about to answer. I mean, she’s sold a book to a studio?
Now to me. I know . . . but it’s part of the deal. Over time answers change to the same questions of life. It all depends on where you are in whatever aspect of life is being asked about. The longer I write and blog the more the answers change and mature.
1)      What am I working on?
I am a varied book of writing ideas. I continue to try and work on a YA novel revise and edit. That SHOULD be at the forefront of my priorities, followed by my New Adult/Adult Romance, then my Blog. However, with the thoughts that keep rushing to my head, my absence of impulse control and lack of filter due to a concussion the Blog tends to lead the way and is quite enjoyable.
The YA book is about siblings that find themselves in predicaments. I really can’t say much more than that. I believe it to be a fairly original idea. Perhaps it is no overly original but I like to think it is a good idea.
The Romance is actually the second in a series of a Romance trilogy I was working on. The first I began revising to put more of my voice into it, but recently realized the second is actually the better overall and that I could really throw myself into it. The main character is a man with heart and great love for the love of his life and I think I can put myself into that character and connect with him more.
2)      How does my work differ from other genres?
I’ll take this by threes again. My Blog is more than a hodgepodge. If it comes into my mind it comes out of my fingertips. I’ve learned that no matter what we share on a blog that someone will find it and connect with it. It may not be a hit with everyone, but one connection is all the satisfaction one needs sometimes. My site is called RonovanWrites and that’s exactly what I do. I write . . . anything and everything . . . tastefully so or at least I hope so.
In my YA writing I try to give the young characters more depth than perhaps people realize is there. There are more layers to young people than we think. Having been a teacher and then especially having been involved in Youth Ministry I really paid attention to and WANTED to understand what those layers were. I never assumed that ‘what you see is what you get’ with a student. You can say the same about a reader.
My Romance writing is, well . . . in this second book which I want to become the main book, I do more than just give you the man’s view I give you his everything. It’s a very different sort of love story, I believe in how I handle it. It is very much how I feel about love.
3)      Why do I write what I do?
On the Blog it’s a creative outlet that actually helps me with my novel writing. I’ve discovered that through all of the articles I’ve written that I have a certain voice and style that I have had trouble finding as a writer of novels. Also it allows me to release a lot of internal things that occur due to pain from illnesses and other emotional experiences.
I love young people so the YA is something I truly enjoy. I connect with young people and I really love them. There needs to be books that are better for them to read than a lot that are out there right now.
Romance and New Adult or Adult focused material is obviously something I can really get into, and this particular novel is just truly something I can become a part of because it’s already a part of me.
4)      How does my writing process work?
For the Blog I’ll be having a conversation and it starts me to thinking about an article, or just a word will lead me to a poem. Even the mistreatment of my friends begins a creation. Normally whatever comes out the fingertips is what ends up being put out there. I edit very little. I give my Friends, as I call those who read my blog, my honesty.
For YA I get a general idea of what I want and then start free writing. If it’s going well then I know I have something. Sometimes I’ll end up a sketch outline over future chapters, more like quick ‘To Remember’ things. I actually keep a word document up called ‘(Title of WIP) To Remember) and quickly make note of an idea or even of something that I am writing that might change something that happened previously, and also any research that I want to do.
Romance is a bit similar to YA but I let the heart lead the way. Outlining isn’t as much on the plate. I know you might be able to do some type of rough sketch outline of a general place you want to go, but I just think that, for me using the heart in this one, I can’t outline or tell it where to go. You can’t tell your heart what to feel and you can’t tell it where to go . . . it just goes where it wants to.
After I write a manuscript I then try to walk away for a bit. Recently I even had the YA novel read by a mother and teen daughter to get their thoughts. The daughter is the target audience and the mother of course is someone who might approve the purchase or even make it on her own.
The first draft went fairly well but as I said there are a few areas I need to work on and some of those areas I discovered in conversations with the woman and her daughter. They didn’t even realize they were telling me what I needed to know at this point but it was even better than the notes that I had been given, because the book just came up in conversation and wasn’t a main thought. I was able to get what they remembered and enjoyed.
I think going back and talking to readers a deal of time after they’ve read a book is actually a great way to determine if you wrote a great story, or at least what were the great parts.
Now I am taking what I learned and revising. It’s been a few months since I’ve touched the book. It’s time.
Again I want to thank Jenna for asking me to be a part of this Writing Blog Hop. Everyone, really go check out Jen’s Pen Den and you’ll find articles with great info with links to great information as well.
RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge #2
RW Weekly Haiku Challenge
#2
Welcome to this weeks Haiku prompt challenge.
If you want to refresh yourselves on a bit of Haiku in English, although you do not have to stick to that particular style of Haiku, it’s just my particular style to use, click here.
For Tips and Guidelines refreshers click here.
This weeks two words to use in some form, meaning you can use another word that means the same thing are:
Turtle & Snail
Here is my example just to give you something to spark the thoughts if need be.
Swimming Turtle glides
Across the far finish line
The snail finishes.
Two contrasting creatures in speed, both finish, one is seen as the winner, but the snail finishes and does not give up, winning as well.
Be sure to put a link to your Haiku in the comments below so we can all go check them out. I’ll comment and also choose the ones that knock me down for one reason or the other and link back to them in my Weekly Rewind telling people how great they were and why I picked them. Eventually these will turn into categories.
Much respect
Ronovan Writes Weekly Wordless Haiku Challenge #2
Wordless Haiku ChallengeI first want to thank DazzlingWhimsy for creating this badge for the challenge.
Welcome to the Weekly Wordless Haiku Challenge #2.
The rules are simple: For how to write a Haiku in English and using the 5/7/5 syllable pattern click here.
No words or numbers of any kind can appear in the images you use. This includes sign language . . . of any kind.
Moon Shadow of a Woman Tango DancersHeartbeat Stumbling Sign Man Falling Men Going in a BuildingHands in Shape of Heart Two arms with infinity tattoos
This is an example of one I created last week.
The Haiku was:
Moon Shadow Dancers
Heartbeats Stumble, falling in
Love Infinity
I know, not the best but it was better then the first one I posted.
Here’s the challenge; You created your own wordless Haiku for Wednesday or any day really, then either post a link in the comments here for everyone that visits to go see and/or ping back (or copy the URL for this post into your Haiku post) to this post in your Haiku post.
I will read it and comment on it. Once I comment come get the badge.
If some of you would like a theme to prompt you what to begin thinking of you can perhaps use. . .
Mountains & Valleys
What do the words mean to you, and how can you connect the two words through that second line? You do not have to do the prompt, it is just a prompt to make you start thinking of things.
