As most of you know I’m using a tablet to read, reblog, and tweet since my laptop crashed. Florence of Meanings and Musings fortunately had permissions to my blog and can put out things as I need them done in emergency cases.

Instead of a review or roundup this week I tweeted each entry to the #SundayBlogShare. It’s very popular and hopefully will get everyone a few extra visits. The link below will take you to the challenge post where in the comments are links to each haiku. The duplicates have been deleted so that those wishing to visit will only visit a haiku once.

The fundraising Florence started, without my knowledge, will be ending at the end of Tuesday, at my request. I want to get back to blogging and my friends soon. My laptop is not a game tool for me, it is how a chronic pain sufferer and retroamnesia person with PTSD and issues with crowds since the grade 3 concussion keeps in touch with the world. That’s all of you, my blog friends and family.

Never try to type all of this on tablet with fibromyalgia and arthritis and migraines, it’s a bear.

Healing Wounds

First in is Juliet with Healing Wounds. Stole ,the tablet to do this reblog. Migraine is already spiking from using it. Felt I had to try to do this though as I said I would in the challenge post.

Today’s prompt words made me think of the phrase “Not all wounds are visible.”  Along with my own personal story, there are many others that have been through the same situation.  There are some out there that think because there is not physical violence that they are not in an abusive situation.

The Haiku: The Parent Plunge. My name for her Haiku and one that doesn’t even come close to giving away what the Haiku is about. The Haiku Challenge Explained 4: Review and Ronovan’s Choices.

What many people who read the Challenge Post don’t realize is there is a Review or Roundup each Sunday. You see the Challenge runs from 9:00 AM EST Monday until Sunday Noon EST. Shortly after Noon on Sunday I post goes out that includes the names, blog names, and Haiku names and links and Twitter Handles of all those who participated.

If 5 people participate a post goes out, if 50 participate a post goes out.

The difference between a Review and Roundup

A Review includes my comments of either opinions, feelings, or fun teases about the Haiku. I have no shame and enjoy being goofy with this and being very honest and serious as well.

A Roundup does not have the comments due to time or health. Yes, I have health problems that interfere with do all I would like.

The Review Post Structure

First Timers will appear at the top of the post with information from their About Page to introduce them to the community.

First to Enter for the Week and appear in the comment section on the Challenge Post will be right below the New Participants in a prominent manner AND will be reblogged onto my own blog to be shared with my readers and thus my Twitter followers.

From there each person is listed in order of entry.

Authors have it mentioned they are authors and links are provided to their Amazon pages. Etsy Shop pages are linked to as well as any other blogs of the participant like one lady has a photography business.

Ronovan’s Choices

I pick one Serious Haiku and one Humor Haiku each week that grabbed me for some reason. My humor has a broad range and as always with any type of award this is an opinion. Sometimes the choice comes down to proper Haiku structure, it gets that close. And yes, I do at times have ties.

Just as I give an Example Haiku with the Challenge Prompts, I also do a Closing Haiku with them.

Sharing the Review

I then share the Review on Twitter and Google+ on Sunday and Monday.

Courtesy in the Community

Every member of the Challenge should pay a courtesy visit to the other members. I notice some do this. Yes, it takes time, but it is nice to see how others think and to support others with some views, and likes and comments if you do actually like the Haiku and want to comment. Notice I did say SHOULD. You don’t have to visit, but it is nice, and no one knows if you don’t. If you do like it a lot, share it wherever you like to, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, wherever.

The Haiku Challenge Explained 3: Images.

Day three of The Haiku Challenge Explained discusses images.On day one we talked about Ping Backs, Sharing, Comments. and on day two it was Types of Haiku and How.

Many people like to place their Haiku on an image that relates to the message of the poem they have written. These are also good for Pinterest.

Using an image is entirely up to you. Some do, and some don’t use them. I do sometimes and sometimes I don’t. It really depends on how much time I have or the mood I am in.

Images do not influence anything in regards to the Challenge, but sometimes an image is amazing and is just perfect for the Haiku.

There are plenty of sites to get images from. Many people use their own photography. I make my own images using picmonkey.com or/and pixlr.com.

Within the Challenge post there is an image you may include in your post or not. Sometimes it is customized to the weeks Challenge and then sometimes it’s one simply identifying the Challenge.

Image or not, it doesn’t matter. What matters in the Haiku Challenge is a Haiku. That’s it. For some it is just a bit more fun finding that perfect picture to go with it.

The Haiku Challenge Explained 1: Ping Backs, Sharing, Comments.

This week I thought I would take the Haiku Prompt Challenge (Which posts each Monday at 9 AM EST, that’s New York Time.Click here for a current Time and World Map.) and break down the components of it so people might understand it a little better and then join in. So each day will be a new article about a component.

I thought I would begin with the sharing/ping back/comments part of the challenge first. I think that might be the one confusing some people at times and keeping them from joining in. For one reason, it’s changed a couple of times.

There are two ways of letting me and the Haiku family know you’ve participated. And it’s not just those who participate that are clicking the links left through the Challenge post. Some like to read only.

The Haiku Challenge is my most visited post each week. The links left are the most clicked on links each week.

Each post you do on your blog has its own URL. That’s the web address that starts with https at the top.

Sharing Way #1

When I talk about sharing your post with us or doing a ping back, I am talking about using a URL.

To do a ping back, you copy and paste the URL of the challenge prompt post into your own post. Once your post goes live, my post gets a message that says you have linked to it. It’s always good to check my post to make sure your ping back worked, if that’s the only way you want us to know you have participated.

Things that are not ping back URLs are your landing/home page or a category page. It must be the URL of an article/post or another kind of page.

Sharing Way #2

Some people like to simply copy and paste their Haiku post URL into the comments of the Haiku Challenge page. That works as well.

Some people do both a ping back and the copy and paste. It’s up to you what you want to do.

The Purpose of Sharing

Putting the URL for the challenge in your own post gives your readers the opportunity to find the challenge and join in. This is not a must. I’m not trying to have anyone advertise the challenge. To be honest, the challenge is for those participating and does not the enhance my blog, other than have me meet great people.

Some people who put the URL in their post do so by putting in the words Ronovan’s Challenge or Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Challenge. That way it is more appealing than a long URL.

Whatever way you choose, at least choose one so I and all those visiting can read your Haiku.

Sharing also lets me know so I can include your blog in the weekly review of the Challenge.

The Links In the Challenge

In the Challenge post there are URLs in red that I provide each week. This is my way of giving easy copy and paste links for you to use. One link is a Ping Back link to the actual Challenge post. The other is to the Category Page for the Haiku Challenges which will not give me a ping back, but will let your readers know where to go to find the Challenge.

Why are there two URLs to use? Sometimes as you are clicking the different links in comments to read the Haiku of your fellow poets you might end up visiting the same Haiku twice because people will Ping Back and Copy and Paste their URL into the comments. So the Non Ping Back URL can keep that from happening. But I tend to go through and clean things up a little bit so really, it doesn’t matter which one you use.

Challenge #54

The rules are simple.

  • Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and three for the third, but you can use what you like. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com.
  • The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  • Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put a link back to this prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other. A link in your post does give others a chance to find us and join in. Use one of the two below if you like.

I sometimes make custom images for the week, if time and health permits.

I don’t sing no more.
What do you think you’re doing.
I won’t cry no more.
That’s what you bring from me.

Thought about it,
Then I went another way.
Shook about it,
Then I thought another way.

You may think you know me,
You never knew me at all.
You laugh at me and what I be,
Now look at what you lost in the fall.

I don’t sing no more,
What do you think you’re doing.
I won’t cry no more.
That’s what you bring from me.

You wish you could see,
Then you crash on the rocks.
You think you are free,
Then you crash on the rocks.

Think about it,
What do you really know?
Do you want to shout it,
“Please, please let me go”?

By the power of I.
There is a better way.
Give up the big lie,
And you will find a brighter day.

Now it’s time to end,
I’ve never been in so need of a kiss.
I keep healing to mend,
My heart will never forever miss.

By the power of I.
I have a brighter day.

Guide those tongues wisely.

People say things they don’t mean. Okay, maybe they mean them but they don’t intend nor do plan to keep those feelings. In the moment they have a burst of anger and say stupid things. I know, I said the bad word, stupid. At least it’s a bad word in my house.

Maybe it’s the TV my son watches but he does well with not saying things to hurt feelings. Gotta love Classics on Hulu.

Angry young lives should

Be taken seriously,

Guide your tongue wisely.
