  • Copy the link of your finished haiku URL  in a comment so we can all go and visit your site to see what you have done. I will comment on your site. You can do a ping back. What’s a ping back? Put a link back to this prompt page, if you like within your post, as long as it does not take away from your haiku. This is simply a prompt and challenge to encourage people to try Haiku and give some a prompt and a place to share in comments so we can find each other. A link in your post does give others a chance to find us and join in. Use one of the two below if you like.

  • You may copy the badge/image appearing in this post and place it on your site if you wish, most normally use it within their post. I am not saying you need to, but if you would like to do so then go ahead. It is simply my way of saying thank you for participating. I sometimes make custom images for the week, if time and health permits.

The Challenge Words!

Bust & Must

Yes, rhymes this week. I thought we would have some fun…maybe.

My example:

I must weave my words

To create a spell wicked,

I now bust some RHYMES.

The two sentences should read as;

I must weave my words to create a spell wicked.

To create a spell wicked I now bust some rhymes.

Ronovan Writes #Weekly #Haiku Challenge Recap of sorts.

ronovan-writes-haiku-challenge-shadow

As most of you know I’m using a tablet to read, reblog, and tweet since my laptop crashed. Florence of Meanings and Musings fortunately had permissions to my blog and can put out things as I need them done in emergency cases.

Instead of a review or roundup this week I tweeted each entry to the #SundayBlogShare. It’s very popular and hopefully will get everyone a few extra visits. The link below will take you to the challenge post where in the comments are links to each haiku. The duplicates have been deleted so that those wishing to visit will only visit a haiku once.

The fundraising Florence started, without my knowledge, will be ending at the end of Tuesday, at my request. I want to get back to blogging and my friends soon. My laptop is not a game tool for me, it is how a chronic pain sufferer and retroamnesia person with PTSD and issues with crowds since the grade 3 concussion keeps in touch with the world. That’s all of you, my blog friends and family.

Never try to type all of this on tablet with fibromyalgia and arthritis and migraines, it’s a bear.

Much Respect

Ronovan

Healing Wounds

First in is Juliet with Healing Wounds. Stole ,the tablet to do this reblog. Migraine is already spiking from using it. Felt I had to try to do this though as I said I would in the challenge post.

BWSBL's avatarBattered Wife Seeking Better Life

Today’s prompt words made me think of the phrase “Not all wounds are visible.”  Along with my own personal story, there are many others that have been through the same situation.  There are some out there that think because there is not physical violence that they are not in an abusive situation.

This haiku is for all of us.

Haiku Challenge #56

Prompts: Luck & Hope
Time will heal all wounds,
Hopefully that phrase is true,
If so, we’re lucky.

How hard the hard drive crumbles.

Hard drive is about dead on the computer so not sure if there will be a roundup or review for the weekly Haiku. Will see what I can do. My apologies in advance if I am not able to get it done.

Send thoughts and prayers that this guy can find a way to get it fixed.

Much Respect and Appreciation.

You. (A Poem.)

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge Review 54

If you do not see your name below and you did write a Haiku for the challenge, please leave a comment and I will add you to the Review. I may have missed the link in the comments section of the Challenge. I did visit the sites of those who participated last week but may have missed a post.  Thank you for your participation.

If you see Roundup in the Title, that means I just couldn’t do comments this week for everyone due to health issues. Review means comments.

Week #54 Haiku Challenge Review of the Words Free & Think.

Be aware all links and images if clicked will open in a new window. Links are in blue and usually underlined. I believe they look cleaner and nicer this way rather than having a URL showing on the page.

New This Week

Pat B of A season and a time: Some of my current interests besides my family, church, and family history include the following:  browsing thrift shops and antique stores, trying out new recipes as well as coming up with a few of my own, playing the piano, learning about my DNA and my health traits, and doing research on various topics.”~Just a taste of her About Page. The Haiku: The Parent Plunge. My name for her Haiku and one that doesn’t even come close to giving away what the Haiku is about. The photos she used to go along with the Haiku are her own and I have to say WOW. Am I so envious she had this experience.

First to Enter this Week:

TJ Paris of La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin: Temple. Very much like his photography. Not sure where it is that he’s not supposed to be in. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t mention it. 🙂 He also has his own type of Haiku Challenge.

Annette Rochelle Aben: Mind Your Own. That’s my choice for title of the Haiku and I think it fits. Once you read it I think you might too. First, she’s a published author, and you can visit her Amazon Author page here. One of those books has included as one of the 25 Global Voices of Social Media. She has numerous shows through The Magic Happens radio network, there is The Magic Happens Radio, then Tell Me A Story which is a weekly program. That link will take you to my interview with her. Then she has a daily show as well, PerspectivepowerAnd remember her being a writer for the online magazine The Magic Happens-Humanity Thriving Out Loud. Check out her inclusion in the new just realeased anthology; Indies Unlimited’s 2014 Flash Fiction Anthology here.

Mira of They, You And Me and To Wear a Rainbow blogs: Only…Love… Nice message to the opinionated. And The cage. Hmm. Interesting. Maybe someone liked the house?  @BediMona

Judy of Edwina’s Episodes: Free to be WhatEvEr. Hmm. Sometimes it’s best not to comment. Not that I would say anything bad, but it might come across wrong. Once you read it you’ll see what I mean.

Sue Vincent from Daily Echo: Free. I think of the title The Lie when I read this one. Looking at the photo with the boundaries in the distance give visuals to the words. Very nice. Sue is one of our resident authors with a LOT of books on Amazon. Click here to check them out. @SCVincent  But Check out her NEW BOOK. Available in Paperback and for Kindle.

Hugh Roberts of Hugh’s Views & News: Sauce Junkie. Um, you have to read it to get it. 🙂 And yes, I did come up with the title. Hugh is also a member of the Lit World Interviews team. You may read his contributions by clicking here.

Prakash of Its PH: Clenched in Hyberabad. The other title I thought of was Disturbing. Sometimes I worry about where our friend’s mind goes.

Al of Al the Author: Three Thoughts of Free. Um, yeah, three Haiku about like you know, thoughts, thinking, and free. Some about like being staged, caged or maybe enraged. Not really sure.

Clarence Holm of PrairieChat: Fiscal Expediency. Ew. Just ew. 🙂  And a second one that is not Ew at all, Minnesota Morning.

Olga of Stuff and what if…Miracles. I have several reasons for the title choice. But one is the idea of last two words in that second line. I wonder how often people feel they really can be that. A whole society like that would be a Miracle.

Ruth of Mad Meandering Me: Disappointed. So many interpretations for this one. From the silly to serious.

Eloise of Thoughts by Mell0-Elo: Breaking Boundaries. I think this is somewhat of a Haibun in that there is a short message following it. Short but important. She’s branching out. Prose + Haiku = Haibun. 🙂 Eloise is also one of our Authors. You visit Amazon.com here or Amazon UK here to check out her offerings for both children and adults.

OnTheLand: Our Struggle With Nature. Three for one with a singular message.

Suzanne Miller of Art and Life: Thinking with the heart. Whoa, talk about an informative post. Not just a Haiku here. Read and enjoy.

Ritu of But I Smile Anyway…:  I’m Free. She went Tanka on us this week. 🙂 A very good poem and I get the actual feel of it that she is relaying. And the message is true for us all if we want to follow it.

Nato of Chasing Life and Finding Dreams: Soulmate. A sometimes scary use of the word think. 🙂 Visit Michelle Lunato Photography as well. @MichelleLunato

Jennifer of The Secret Keeper: A Free Wind and Pure Imagination. a very ethereal feel to both Haiku this week.

Shida Tahirah of 876LoveR: Living Free? Wish I could afford the cost of the Haiku. 🙂

Meredith & Martha of Meredith’s Musings Free Thinker and Breakup by Meredith & Freedom and Butterfly by Martha. I think Freedom is really a visual of what Martha is. 🙂

AC Elliott of File Cabinet Ramblings: Corporate Objectives. There is a certain freedom in this but then not. Very good opposing ideas in one. Really like the thinking here. @Elliott_ac

Johnoii of johnorzehowski: Limitation. Very interesting nature Haiku. Something to think about.

clickerwriter of Captured by Aishwarya: The end Spring cleaning maybe? Yard sale? Hmm.

Marjorie of Kyrosmagica: Anxiety and Pet Hugs. Seriousness from our resident Humorist. Definite MUST READ on that Pet Hugs and the reason behind it.

Dr. KO of KO Rural Mad As Hell Blog: A crazu ideological teenager who still thinks that clear, free, rational thinking can save the world. Not my title. 🙂

Steven Walsky of Simplicity Lane: A mountain gives forth. A Haibun by Steven. Another one of those jealous moments for me.  Check out and get Simplicity Lane free, go here for where you can get it.  Through a Stranger’s Eyes here and Résumé for Love for free here.

R. Todd of R. Todd Writes: Freedom…. It comes with a price.

ladyleemanilla of Lady Lee Manilla’s Photos:  Our Oyster?. What is our oyster? Go find out.

Juliet of Battered Wife Seeking Better Life: Reflections. I think the message in this one will hit a lot of people close to home. @BWseekingBL

Serins of Serins Sphere: The unforgiven. A Haiku and a Tanka. Some may recognize that title. Even if you don’t go check it out. @SerinsSphere

Florence of Meanings and Musings: Seek Your Freedom. A Tanka this week. One most of us can identify with. Florence is also a member of the Lit World Interviews Team. Read her posts here. @FTThum

Greg of Potholes in the Road of Life: I Think. A Haibun. I think this one can be as he intends or for me I think it gives thoughts of maybe my own earlier years. @greg_wolford

Swatiu of imgrowing: Unfettered. Considering the prompt words, I think the title says it all. But what all does it say?

Vashti Quiroz-Vega of The Writer Next Door: Po-Po.. She got them right this week. 🙂 And I think she’s gotten a pass or two in her life. And no, not that kind of pass. Geesh you gutter minded people you. o,O Get Vashti’s current book, The Basement on Amazon by clicking here.

Marigold of Versus Blurb: Thought Security. Yeah, I have no idea where I came up with the title either. I mean, I just sort of at this point in the review am lucky to be able to even think myself. Okay so I know where I came up with it, but you have to go see why. Go purchase Marigold Deidre Dicer’s book The Black Swan Inheritance from Smashwords, Kobo, Barnes and Noble or the iBooks store or purchase it from Amazon on Kindle by clicking here. @MarigoldDicer

Alka Girdhar of Magnanimous WordAn Obedient Feminist. I in no way came up with this title. A very interesting read. @girally

Elusive Trope of Musings of a Photogenic Memory: Freeway Moment. I instantly got that Friday rush-hour-stuck-on-top-of-spaghetti-junction-in-Atlanta-with-no-air-in-summer feeling.

E. Rawls of E. Rawls: Author creating stories and art: My Head in the Clouds and I Think. I think there will be no cloud visits unless you stay free and clear of that second one. Remember another author in the house. I think the best would be to her book page on her weebly site, http://erawls.weebly.com/

Shailzaa of Fewunsaidwords Ego Destroyers. That last sentence kind of made me think a bit.

Claudette of to search and to find happiness in every day: Delusion. Definite true message.

Canaf of Faithful Devotionals: True Freedom. A freedom that is less and less apparent these days. Awesome image!

Skybright1 of from heart to head: Memories. Somewhat romanticalish. 🙂 I made up a word.

Jane Dougherty of Jane Dougherty Writes: Utopia. Love the peacefulness of these two. She is a published author after all. And I have interviewed her and reviewed one of her books. Visit her Amazon Author page for her books by clicking here. You can read my interview with her and her co-author here which has a link to my review.

My Haiku: The greatest opportunity.

The Haiku Challenge Explained 4: Review and Ronovan’s Choices.

What many people who read the Challenge Post don’t realize is there is a Review or Roundup each Sunday. You see the Challenge runs from 9:00 AM EST Monday until Sunday Noon EST. Shortly after Noon on Sunday I post goes out that includes the names, blog names, and Haiku names and links and Twitter Handles of all those who participated.

If 5 people participate a post goes out, if 50 participate a post goes out.

The difference between a Review and Roundup

A Review includes my comments of either opinions, feelings, or fun teases about the Haiku. I have no shame and enjoy being goofy with this and being very honest and serious as well.

A Roundup does not have the comments due to time or health. Yes, I have health problems that interfere with do all I would like.

The Review Post Structure

First Timers will appear at the top of the post with information from their About Page to introduce them to the community.

First to Enter for the Week and appear in the comment section on the Challenge Post will be right below the New Participants in a prominent manner AND will be reblogged onto my own blog to be shared with my readers and thus my Twitter followers.

From there each person is listed in order of entry.

Authors have it mentioned they are authors and links are provided to their Amazon pages. Etsy Shop pages are linked to as well as any other blogs of the participant like one lady has a photography business.

Ronovan’s Choices

I pick one Serious Haiku and one Humor Haiku each week that grabbed me for some reason. My humor has a broad range and as always with any type of award this is an opinion. Sometimes the choice comes down to proper Haiku structure, it gets that close. And yes, I do at times have ties.

My Closing Haiku

Just as I give an Example Haiku with the Challenge Prompts, I also do a Closing Haiku with them.

Sharing the Review

I then share the Review on Twitter and Google+ on Sunday and Monday.

Courtesy in the Community

Every member of the Challenge should pay a courtesy visit to the other members. I notice some do this. Yes, it takes time, but it is nice to see how others think and to support others with some views, and likes and comments if you do actually like the Haiku and want to comment. Notice I did say SHOULD. You don’t have to visit, but it is nice, and no one knows if you don’t. If you do like it a lot, share it wherever you like to, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, wherever.

Much Love, Success, and Respect

The Haiku Challenge Explained 3: Images.

Day three of The Haiku Challenge Explained discusses images. On day one we talked about Ping Backs, Sharing, Comments. and on day two it was Types of Haiku and How.

Many people like to place their Haiku on an image that relates to the message of the poem they have written. These are also good for Pinterest.

Using an image is entirely up to you. Some do, and some don’t use them. I do sometimes and sometimes I don’t. It really depends on how much time I have or the mood I am in.

Images do not influence anything in regards to the Challenge, but sometimes an image is amazing and is just perfect for the Haiku.

There are plenty of sites to get images from. Many people use their own photography. I make my own images using picmonkey.com or/and pixlr.com.

Within the Challenge post there is an image you may include in your post or not. Sometimes it is customized to the weeks Challenge and then sometimes it’s one simply identifying the Challenge.

Image or not, it doesn’t matter. What matters in the Haiku Challenge is a Haiku. That’s it. For some it is just a bit more fun finding that perfect picture to go with it.

Thanks to Ronovan for his ongoing inspiration and also for the time and effort that he puts into the challenge. Thanks also for the wonderful and inspiring Haikuists out there who show what can be done with this deceptively simple form.

I have made a compilation of some of the Haiku I have written as part of “TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge” below if you would like to read some more haiku based on prompts from household objects. You can find this week’s prompt by clicking HERE .

The Haiku Challenge Explained 1: Ping Backs, Sharing, Comments.

This week I thought I would take the Haiku Prompt Challenge (Which posts each Monday at 9 AM EST, that’s New York Time.Click here for a current Time and World Map.) and break down the components of it so people might understand it a little better and then join in. So each day will be a new article about a component.

I thought I would begin with the sharing/ping back/comments part of the challenge first. I think that might be the one confusing some people at times and keeping them from joining in. For one reason, it’s changed a couple of times.

There are two ways of letting me and the Haiku family know you’ve participated. And it’s not just those who participate that are clicking the links left through the Challenge post. Some like to read only.

The Haiku Challenge is my most visited post each week. The links left are the most clicked on links each week.

Each post you do on your blog has its own URL. That’s the web address that starts with https at the top.

Sharing Way #1

When I talk about sharing your post with us or doing a ping back, I am talking about using a URL.

To do a ping back, you copy and paste the URL of the challenge prompt post into your own post. Once your post goes live, my post gets a message that says you have linked to it. It’s always good to check my post to make sure your ping back worked, if that’s the only way you want us to know you have participated.

I have an article with details about how to do a ping back: Blog Tip: How To Do A Ping Back.

Things that are not ping back URLs are your landing/home page or a category page. It must be the URL of an article/post or another kind of page.

Sharing Way #2

Some people like to simply copy and paste their Haiku post URL into the comments of the Haiku Challenge page. That works as well.

Some people do both a ping back and the copy and paste. It’s up to you what you want to do.

The Purpose of Sharing

Putting the URL for the challenge in your own post gives your readers the opportunity to find the challenge and join in. This is not a must. I’m not trying to have anyone advertise the challenge. To be honest, the challenge is for those participating and does not the enhance my blog, other than have me meet great people.

Some people who put the URL in their post do so by putting in the words Ronovan’s Challenge or Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Challenge. That way it is more appealing than a long URL.

Whatever way you choose, at least choose one so I and all those visiting can read your Haiku.

Sharing also lets me know so I can include your blog in the weekly review of the Challenge.

The Links In the Challenge

In the Challenge post there are URLs in red that I provide each week. This is my way of giving easy copy and paste links for you to use. One link is a Ping Back link to the actual Challenge post. The other is to the Category Page for the Haiku Challenges which will not give me a ping back, but will let your readers know where to go to find the Challenge.

Why are there two URLs to use? Sometimes as you are clicking the different links in comments to read the Haiku of your fellow poets you might end up visiting the same Haiku twice because people will Ping Back and Copy and Paste their URL into the comments. So the Non Ping Back URL can keep that from happening. But I tend to go through and clean things up a little bit so really, it doesn’t matter which one you use.

Much Love, Success, and Respect

Challenge #54

The rules are simple.

  • Take the two words and write a Haiku. I use Haiku in English as my style, which is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second, and three for the third, but you can use what you like. For syllable help visit HowManySyllables.com.
  • The two words can be used as you like. Words have different definitions and you can use the definitions you like. You can even use a synonym word as long as it does not change the meaning. Go to Thesaurus.com for Synonym help.
  • Ping back Link https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-54-free-think/

Free & Think

My example:

Sharing honest thoughts,

Is a sign of your courage,

Hiding your thinking?

As you can see I changed the words but kept their meanings. Enjoy the challenge and I look forward to seeing your Haiku.

Much Love, Success, and Respect

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge Roundup 53

If you do not see your name below and you did write a Haiku for the challenge, please leave a comment and I will add you to the Review. I may have missed the link in the comments section of the Challenge. I did visit the sites of those who participated last week but may have missed a post.  Thank you for your participation.

If you see Roundup in the Title, that means I just couldn’t do comments this week for everyone due to health issues. Review means comments.

poetry haikuWeek #53 Haiku Challenge Review of the Words Guide & Mad.

Be aware all links and images if clicked will open in a new window. Links are in blue and usually underlined. I believe they look cleaner and nicer this way rather than having a URL showing on the page.

New This Week

Elusive Trope of Musings of a Photogenic Memory: Gotta like that title. “I use what I call my “stage name” Elusive Trope in many of my presences on the web. In the past I have hid behind my stage name as a way to keep secret my real identity. I did, in part, because the non-profit for which I worked was apolitical and what I blogged and commented upon was usually political in nature. I slowly started to come out of the virtual closet and now I am just going to come entirely out of the closet.”~From the About Page of the Elusive Trope. Bet you want to know the real identity, right? Well go find out. Muhahahahaha. The Haiku: Tribulation. I think the Elusive one and I have some things in common. Check out the About page. Even though we don’t share all the same things we end up with some same results.

By the fate of I–A Brighter day. (Poetry)

I don’t sing no more.
What do you think you’re doing.
I won’t cry no more.
That’s what you bring from me.

Thought about it,
Then I went another way.
Shook about it,
Then I thought another way.

You may think you know me,
You never knew me at all.
You laugh at me and what I be,
Now look at what you lost in the fall.

I don’t sing no more,
What do you think you’re doing.
I won’t cry no more.
That’s what you bring from me.

You wish you could see,
Then you crash on the rocks.
You think you are free,
Then you crash on the rocks.

Think about it,
What do you really know?
Do you want to shout it,
“Please, please let me go”?

By the power of I.
There is a better way.
Give up the big lie,
And you will find a brighter day.

Now it’s time to end,
I’ve never been in so need of a kiss.
I keep healing to mend,
My heart will never forever miss.

By the power of I.
I have a brighter day.

Stream of conscious poem/lyric poem today. Just wrote this so if it doesn’t make sense, blame the MRI and no editing.

Much Love, Success, and Respect

Guide those tongues wisely.

People say things they don’t mean. Okay, maybe they mean them but they don’t intend nor do plan to keep those feelings. In the moment they have a burst of anger and say stupid things. I know, I said the bad word, stupid. At least it’s a bad word in my house.

Maybe it’s the TV my son watches but he does well with not saying things to hurt feelings. Gotta love Classics on Hulu.

Angry young lives should

Be taken seriously,

Guide your tongue wisely.

Much Love, Success, and Respect
