RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge #46 Think&Fresh

Okay everyone, we’re going to freshen this up a bit. Actually we’re going to try to make this simple for you, the poets. Please read the post to see what changes have been made, or unmade. You’ll get the picture. Basically this has to do with the whole pingback or not thing. If you are a veteran member of the family you can look for the sections that are this color and that will give you an idea of what you need to know. I think there are three sections. Two are numbered and one is below that area.

Speaking of picture, if you’re new here, don’t freak out at the image below. I make a new one each week and this week I kind of was going for a much more complicated image and it was going to take forever. The words this week are Think and Fresh. So below we have a bright idea burning away the cobwebs of old, stale ideas. I like to get a little creative, or whatever you call that below.

Challenge 46

challenge46

I created this challenge to have a place for people to share creativity and gain a little exposure to other readers they might not have otherwise AND of course to enjoy Haiku. We all have different people who visit our blogs, so this way we get to meet new people. Just so you know, this is a community. You will get to know the people here and make several new friends along the way.

First one to submit an entry gets reblogged here on Ronovan Writes. But go for quality, that’s the important part.

First of all, if you don’t know how to write a Haiku in English format, don’t worry, there are links below to articles I’ve written to show you how. Or you can click that link there. They are easier than you think. And to be honest, as for the challenge, I don’t really have rules for people sticking to formats unless it comes down to having to decide between two people for one of the Choices of the week. Choices are the winners, my selections, for one Serious and one Humorous Haiku each week that just gets me. But staying to formats does make you a better writer of Haiku. And with practice, it becomes second nature.

So you write a Haiku, what do you do with it?

  1. You have the Haiku as a post on your blog.
  2. Within that post you can put one of the two links you will find below under “Use One Of These Links in Your Blog”. Just copy and paste and make sure they are active/live. That’s called a pingback for one of them, but not the other. What’s a Pingback? How do you do it? Click here to find out how if you don’t know how.
  3. If you don’t do the real pingback link, which will be called “Pingback Link” below, then make sure to put a link to your post in the comments of this Challenge post so we can all go read your Haiku. Either way is cool with me. Or you can do both.
  4. The Challenge Post is published each Monday at 9 AM Eastern Time, or New York Time for those like me who get confused with all those easterns  and stuff. Don’t know what your time zone is compared to New York Time? Click here for a Time Zone Map showing times as of right this moment.
  5. You have until Noon Eastern New York Time Sunday to submit your Haiku. You may submit as many as you like, even multiple ones within the same post if you like. There is no limit.
  6. Why submit? We have several members of the challenge family and they visit other members, also people visit the challenge specifically to see what people write, and I do a weekly review of each and every Haiku written and put that out Sunday afternoon or Monday morning, depending on how much time it takes. That Review then gets shared on Twitter. I do at times keep tweeting the Review until I have included every Twitter Handle of every Poet who has participated, but I don’t always do that these days as the number is beginning to get big. But sometimes I do anyway.

Note: If you do both a Pingback and a Comment with a link, you will at some point notice the pingback on the Challenge Post here will disappear. I’ll be doing that to make it easier for people to visit each of you and not click on the same person twice not realizing the pingback and comment link are the same person. 🙂 I can tell the difference but when you are casually reading, who wants to bother with that, right? But don’t worry, the link is still active/live in your post.

One easy way to read the Haiku from the Challenge Post comments area is to right click and open the link in a new tab or window. That way you don’t lose your place in the list and you don’t have to keep revisiting my blog. Yes, it would give me a lot more visits but I know all those visits are all of you reading each others Haiku anyway.

People like to try different ways of doing Haiku and below are links to how to do some different kinds if you are interested.

Want to know How to write a Haiku Poem in English Form? Click here for the article. Also here you have an article that shows you a little about Haiku used in Haibun and Tanka as well. Haiku in English is the primary form for the challenge but you can use any of them. This is about being creative and pushing yourself to share a message or image in very few words.

The Prompt Words

Think & Fresh

My Example

Your eyes beamed because

You knew what I was thinking ,

So you called me fresh.

The following is how the sentences should read.

Your eyes beamed because you knew what I was thinking.

You knew what I was thinking, so you called me fresh.

You do not have to include the sentences within your post, but it does help others understand how Haiku works if you do.

Use One of These Links in Your Blog

Non Pingback Link (This link will take a person to the category page for the Haiku Challenges. That page shows the most recent challenge at the top. It will not show as a pingback in the challenge Post. If you use this make certain to also leave a link to your post in the comments of this Challenge post so we can visit you and I can include you in the review.)

Remember you also have to make certain the link is active/live by clicking on the add link button which is next to the right alignment button for WordPress. To me the add link button kind of looks like a diagonal paper clip. It’s the fifth from the right in the WordPress post editor.

For Tips and Guidelines refreshers click here.

DEADLINE: Noon on Sunday New York Time.

There are TWO “CHOICE!” recipients each week. One for Humor and one for something more Serious. The Haiku are quite good each week and I am having to turn to the structure guidelines of a Haiku at times to help determine my selection.

Really each Haiku is a choice of mine, and I’m not just saying that, so I feel a bit odd even having something called A RONOVAN’S CHOICE, but hey, it’s a thing, right? And it does make it kind of fun.

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge 45 Review

challenge45

For those of you wondering, the image above was time pitching love and it bouncing off the walls into the void where the heart is in the figure above the clock.

Missing a lot of our Haiku Family this week. Don’t you love this time of year? Sarcasm much?

Week #45 Haiku Challenge Review of the Words Pitch & Time.

Be aware all links and images if clicked will open in a new window. Links are in blue and usually underlined. I believe they look cleaner and nicer this way rather than having a URL showing on the page.

A piece of advice. Although Ping Back are seen and may be clicked on by visitors to the weekly challenge post, I am seeing that comment links seem receive more visitors, at least for newer members of the challenge.

New This Week

Jane Dougherty of Jane Dougherty Writes: “Finding the time to write has always been the major problem. Children have been the inspiration and the incentive to write. They have also been the main obstacle. Now they are old enough to fend for themselves, and despite the growing numbers of feline and canine time-consumers, I have the luxury of some time to myself.”~From her About Page. The Haiku: Crow Black. OOOO, nice one. Great imagery, even if the painting had not been included. GMCFinal Version lgeExcellent. Not surprising all things considered. She is a published author after all. And I have interviewed her and reviewed one of her books. Visit her Amazon Author page for her books by clicking here. You can read my interview with her and her co-author here which has a link to my review.   Here we are with another one from our new member. Cleansed. Okay, this one is awesome. Loving it. I am not sure why I should be surprised. I said that earlier, I know, but she’s a poet and author of novels. I mean for real. A lot of depth in this one. MUST READ.

Donna of Homemade Naturally: “Life is FUN! Life is a JOURNEY! This is my journey into a more natural healthier life!Journeys are to be shared. To learn from. To enjoy. I am a mature happy, sometimes witty woman with many different journeys under her belt. “~From her About.Me bio.  And we need to thank Ritu for guiding Donna our way. The Haiku: I Cannot Pitch. She made some fans with this one. Some of our Haiku family dropped in and loved it and supported her and some giggled. Yes, they actually typed giggle. I swear it. And as one said “Rules schmules! Fun is more important.” Everyone go read and enjoy! That last part was me not a quote from our or Aran Island Rebel.

Clarence Holm of PrairieChat: “As an avowed couch potato, what little time he has off the pillows is devoted to a few hobbies including, computers, electronics, woodworking and day dreaming. He is married and the father of four daughters all old enough to realize dad doesn’t have all the answers.”~From his About Page. (You know, I bet they wonder why I pick what I do to share here.) The Haiku: Fiery Rain. I had been waiting for this one. I was wondering if someone would use pitch in this manner and awesome!

Al of Al the Author: “This blog will be a record of my writing “journey”, living a life of rhyme, trying to write (and get published…) picture book texts that are fun to share, and make both adults and children smile.”~From his About Page. The Haiku: Love’s Case. Nicely done. I think all will enjoy it. I hope you were helped back up.   Three more from Al this week. Pitchforks at Dawn, Love Begins? and Love denied. Like that last one, Love Denied a lot. And love the title Pitchforks at Dawn.

Angie Lin of Muddied Thoughts: Excellent blog title, don’t you think?i am: a second-gen. chinese, a nondenominational christian, angie-lina practicer of mediocrity, a crap singer/not-so-crap pianist, a decent anime artiste, a stubborn optimist, former weeb trash, and an insatiable lover of pie.”~From her About Page. The Haiku: Time Stops. Nice one here, guys. Great structure. Two great images. The first and second could read as one or separate. Well worth a visit to say hi. As for that image of her profile picture. If she drew that, AWESOME! I am jealous. Unfortunately no Twitter Handle for this lady. Bummer that.

Runaway Nuns and Leprechauns: Yes, you read that right. Do we even have to go any further? I mean, can it get cooler than that title? Runaway Nuns and Leprechauns… an odd name for a blog or what? We’d actually prefer it to be known as a peaceful, magical and mystical spot. It’s a spot where you can stop in for a daily dose of love and laughter sprinkled with a bit of chaos, confusion and lunacy. You can get great recipes and cooking tips, as well as drilling and building ideas. Who does that? Who knows their way around the kitchen and around the tool shed?”~From the About Page. (If you have difficulty reading the about page, just hilight it and it’s a lot clearer. Cool information. The Haiku: Pitch. Interesting. I like that use of time. There is a word in there that is cool.

Katsyarina of LifeRaduga: “I am a poetess with poetry in my blood and heart made of rhymes. Here I will write whatever I feel like. My path. My life. Me. My poetry.”~From her About Page. The Haiku: Eyes of the Storm. I like how this one, although with two different sentences could be one and have an emotional element throughout. I think Katsyarina is new to the challenge but I’ve seen her around for so long I am not sure but I’m putting her here just in case.

First to Enter this Week:

Juliet of Battered Wife Seeking Better Life: Finish Line. She made it first this week. And of course this would be the week she doesn’t have it as an individual post that I can reblog!!!!! Grrrr. Say La Vee. La Vee. @BWseekingBL

Edwina of Edwina’s Episodes: Love For Hire. Very nice. I like the way nature is included but with a hint of intrusion of man.

Elizabeth of Tea & Paper: Time Knows. A very well done message in this one. I really like the thought put into this one. The interpretations could really go anywhere as the comments show. @TeandPaper

TJ Paris of La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin: Time Suspended. I am liking the different uses of the words this week. Definite good use of pitch. I liked that one.

Becky G of Becky G? Oh, That’s Me!: In His Time. Good one for a Sunday read for certain.

Annette Rochelle Aben: Perfect Timing Okay, good advice for authors out there or perhaps those asking for a date.

ladyleemanilla: Three this week. Kind of Pitchy Dawg. Had a flashback to American Idol. Sowwy.

Mira of They, You And Me and To Wear a Rainbow blogs: Help. I so don’t believe this one. Impossible. I think it must all be in her mind. Time Will Tell.  Hmm. Well if you would lower your standards a bit. 🙂 @BediMona

Ritu of But I Smile Anyway…:  Horror. You know, if my challenges are that horrifying. Hrmph. That’s all I’m saying. Hrmph.

Greg of Potholes in the Road of Life: The Pitch. I spent many years doing this kind of thing. Did very well. And now here I am at about 3 AM on a Sunday morning doing Haiku Reviews. Hmm. Wonder which one I prefer.   @greg_wolford

E. Rawls of E. Rawls: Author creating stories and art: Sing Your Heart Out and Keep Climbing.  Wonder if Colleen has read this one yet? She would like that first one for sure. Remember another author in the house. I think the best would be to her book page on her weebly site, http://erawls.weebly.com/

Sarah Brentyn of Lemon Shark ReefCheating. Well there is a title to make you wonder. Now to read it. Ah, there are two. Wow, that first one kind of can put a weight on the heart depending on how you read it and the second one is excellent for authors. Cool.

Sarah of tuckedintoacornerTune. An interesting thought. I do suppose it would be odd to stop. Wonder what the reaction would be. Fortunately for our Review this one came in on time. We missed out on her Sources Haiku. You can check that one out while you are visiting her blog for this one. It’s from May 11th under the Poetry category.

Sandra of Wild Daffodil: Pitch, Time and Middle. Two actually. Love the image used. Goes so well with both Haiku. Actually gives a bit more meaning overall to the story told in the two Haiku. Very nice.

Marjorie of Kyrosmagica: 2 This week. One Humor and One Serious. Boot Loot? and Theft. Thievery seems to be the theme here. Never thought of that. That second one is most definitely a serious one. One I never would have thought to put into a Haiku.

Nato of Chasing Life and Finding Dreams:  The Pitch I Should Have Dropped. She was worried about breaking a rule by finishing her story with additional Haiku? Seriously? More Haiku a problem? Oh, Nato, you poor thing. More Haiku the more better.  And don’t forget that Michelle also has something else other than great writing talent going for her. Visit Michelle Lunato Photography. @MichelleLunato

Shida Tahirah of 876LoveR: Some of Your Time. Nice rhyming here. Good structure. Very cool.

Geoff Le Pard of TanGentalComprehension. Hmm, a thought provoking one here. Can be applied to many things. Really like it.  Go to Amazon to get Dead Flies and Sherry Trifle. I don’t know who Sherry is but I mean what’s she doing with the dead flies? But yeah, click here for Amazon UK and here for the US. @geofflepard

SW ysobel of Spunky Wayfarer(Biodegradable hat) and (Happy Camper) I am so not making these names up for these Haiku. But sure does sound like me. Great compliment made to the Haiku family in this post. Very good member. @SpunkyWayfarer

Khor Hui Min of Project Prose:  Perfect. Wonder if a movie was watched before this was written. Think one was just released that may have inspired the use of the word Pitch in the challenge as a prompt word this week. @MinKhor

Claudette of to search and to find happiness in every day: Use by Date. Um, at first I had like two thoughts here at the title. Now I will read and see what happens. OOOO, burn. Someone got told on this one. 🙂 Very nice.

Florence of Meanings and Musings: Sensuous Loving…Memories No, not my title for once. She actually gave this one a name herself. Read it and interpret it for yourself. I’ll leave this one to you guys this week. I have two thoughts on it. Conflicting ones so can’t really grab onto one to share. @FTThum

Dr. KO of KO Rural Mad As Hell Blog: The Devil’s Fork. This woman has one unique mind about things. I gotta say that. Fork it all as she might say.

Colleen of Silver Threading: Lingering Fragments. Kind of a touchy feely one this week. 🙂  @ColleenChesebro  Also remember to drop by the LWI site and read Colleen’s Book Reviews. She is excellent. Click here to see everything she’s written.

Sue Vincent from Daily Echo: Illusion. Very nice. Good use of the prompts. I want to say she challenged herself with her overall word usage and giving us a visual illusion with her line lengths. Sue is one of our resident authors with a LOT of books on Amazon. Click here to check them out. @SCVincent  But Check out her NEW BOOK by clicking the image. Available in Paperback and for Kindle.

Wendy Anne Darling of Silver Lightning: Deadlines. I get the feeling of deadlines from this author. I gave the title to the Haiku based on that feeling. But I think we can all identify with it. Remember Wendy is one of our Authors. Get Silver Lightning Volume One at Amazon by clicking here.

Canaf of Faithful Devotionals: The Pitch.  OOOOO, liked this one. Another one of those in your face dude types. 🙂

Melissa of The Aran Artisan: Okay, the name of the post is In The Middle Of A Pot In The Middle Of The Day but I’m going to call the Haiku itself  Time Out. Why? Well you’ll have to read it and I think you’ll get it. My mind isn’t that warped. Okay, maybe it is but I at least try to make my made up titles make sense. @thearanartisan

Steven Walsky of Simplicity Lane: Words Defy. A pretty cool message in this one. And it is very true.  Simplicity Lane is free, go here for where you can get it.  Through a Stranger’s Eyes here and Résumé for Love for free here.

Vashti Quiroz-Vega: Divine Melody. A peek inside her mind while she works on her latest novel?  Get Vashti’s current book, The Basement on Amazon by clicking here.

Mari T. of Overcoming Static: Pitching Time. This one can have some deep meaning depending on where your mind is at. Wow. I am thinking relationships as I read it. Odd, I know, but there you go.

Patty of Strawberries ForeverFear in the Dark A bit frightening, but then it’s supposed to be. And one many people probably will understand, unfortunately.

Rachael Ritchey of Writing Rachael Ritchey: Soul Harmony. Oooo, a thinky one. I like it. 🙂 Make sure to check out her blog for real. I like how she talks about her book signing experience under her Book Related section. Remember to check out her book The Beauty Thief is available on Amazon with great reviews.

My Sunday Thought: The Irish Vote.

I wrote about the vote in Ireland and same sex marriage for my Sunday Thought today and how I don’t agree with it. I let a friend read it and the question was put to me, “Will they read all of it to see what your point is?”

Let’s see what the answer is.

What to write about today? I think I want to talk about what happened in Ireland and their recent vote.

I don’t agree with it.

But why?

Uh oh. People gonna make assumptions. I see it coming already.

If that were here in the US and there was to be a Constitutional Amendment about marriage, I would definitely be against it.

But again, why?

Because I don’t think marriage should be a government thing at all.

Just blew some peoples assumptions.

The government controlling marriage of any kind simply gives them money here and taxation rights and a say over our lives and what is right or wrong. Honestly, I would be going after the businesses instead of after a marriage amendment. Oh wait, the insurance companies are the ones that really make ‘marriage’ an issue.

They dictate who can receive benefits and that depends on who is considered married. You know, the insurance companies could make that simpler. And really, governments should have no say over who is married or not.

You see, if the US wanted to have a marriage amendment for marriage being just man to woman, I wouldn’t vote for it either.

Some say they wouldn’t be voting for gay marriage but for civil rights. I guess some would say it is their civil right to be against same sex marriage. Would a person then vote for that person to have that right without calling them homophobic?

Some people say marriage is based from religion, some say it is from some governmental thing way back when. All based on point of view.

There are a lot of things that the government gets involved in that I think they should stay out of. Then there are the things they should get involved in they seem to ignore totally.

Here in the US each state has the right to have the people vote on marriage. It’s down to the people in the area and not people of other states determining what people thousands of miles away will have to live by. Even then I would still vote against any kind of state amendment regarding any type of marriage.

I’m a Christian. Duh, right? Well, I mean most of you know that already. That means I don’t force anything I believe on anyone. I can tell you about it, but if you don’t like it, that’s fine. I don’t want to pass a law that says everyone has to believe in God as I know Him. Or pass a law that says everyone should use the same translation of the Bible I use. Sorry KJ people, but I need to study in modern English to understand at times.

Oh, and if you run across a person that claims they are a Christian and says you have to believe as they do, don’t take them as an example of a follower of Jesus. Jesus said, as I have mentioned here before, shake the dust of that town off your feet and move on. Meaning, they believe what they want to believe.

Do I have a different solution to the government control over marriage? Sort of, but I need to work on it a little. But even then the government would get involved somehow.

I hope you read this all the way through and see I’m not homophobic. I think I am governmentophobic.

Jesus said give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s. In many aspects of life that is how I look at things. Sorry, but I nor marriage is Caesar’s.

Oh, and if you noticed earlier I said. If that were here in the US and there was to be a Constitutional Amendment about marriage, I would definitely be against it. I didn’t say same sex marriage, I said marriage. I wonder how many of you caught that.

Haiku: pitch and time

Love Connection. A #BeWoW and #1000Speak Poem.

Sometimes you need to lose a connection to find a connection. One you have may not be the one you need. Once that one is lost, or ended, a new one may enter your life. Connections come and go. Don’t dwell on the lost ones. Focus on the ones not yet made, or the one newly made that may have been the reason for your existence.

Always be open and aware of words and actions. Combined they can tell you the truth. If they conflict, so long. If they agree, then awesome.

This is another entry for the #BeWoW and #1000Speak for today dealing with Connecting.

Love-Connection

Tomorrow is #BeWoW Day. How do you Connect?

Tomorrow is #BeWoW Wednesday, my weekly Twitter blogshare of positive posts. But it is also #1000Speak monthly link-up. So this week I thought to make it easy on all of us who do both I would make the topic the same  Talk about how you connect.

Mine is already out. 5 Ways to Connect with Your Children.

An excerpt from my post.

I look at a lot of problems today and I personally believe a lot of them could have been prevented if a good and healthy connection had been established and maintained between the parent and child. Notice I said a “good and healthy” connection.”

ronovan writes copyright

You don’t have to use that as your idea, but if you need an idea, there you have it.

All you need do is write a post, Tweet it with the hashtag of #BeWoW just as it appears there. It stands for Be Wonderful on Wednesday. The post needs to be about positivity, encouragement, motivation, or just something positive. This isn’t a spammer share where you tweet everything you have.

Also I will post my #BeWoW and if you want my Readers to possibly see yours, paste your link in the comments of mine and they might go visit. That will make certain I see them.

You may seem some other  types of tweets in the #BeWoW hashtag but you’ll be able to tell which are which. It’s pretty simple.

Don’t just RT a tweet, and do RT them otherwise why do this, right? But go and visit the post as well. I’ve made some friends and found some surprises.

See you tomorrow. And make sure you are #BeWaTT! Be Wonderfull all The Time!

5 Ways to Connect with Your Children #1000Speak

Connecting with people is something you have to work at. Okay, so it comes naturally for some people. This article is being written with the 1000 voices speak for compassioncurrent 1000 Voices for Compassion theme of Connection in mind. Oddly it goes along with something I’ve been thinking of for some time now and carries over from something I wrote previously in my Let your Kids be them and not you.

I’m not a strong connector these days, and haven’t been for the past couple of years. I was prior to that but now I am more of a recluse. That being said, there are people you can’t and shouldn’t be a recluse from—Your Children.

I look at a lot of problems today and I personally believe a lot of them could have been prevented if a good and healthy connection had been established and maintained between the parent and child. Notice I said a “good and healthy” connection.

My son goes to school before I get up in the mornings. Often times I am asleep when he comes home. Chronic Fatigue is part of my Fibromyalgia so I really have no control over when I will drop off and sleeping problems mess things up as well. Thus, when I am with my son I need to make certain there is that connection. It may be only a look or a couple of words but there needs to be something positive and building going on.

5 Ways Parents Connect To Their Children

  1. Be Less Self: I know you don’t think of yourself as begin selfish but when you consider that very often you are molding your child to be what you want them to be instead of what they should be, you are being selfish. This is in regards to utilization of talents and intellect. We should all try to mold our children into being good people, so don’t even think about going off on me about that.
  2. Listen: Children like to talk, IF they have parents that like to listen. You may not like to listen—Pretend. Listen to your child and respond to them. Acknowledge you have heard what they said. Your child will grow in confidence, social abilities and even vocabulary.
  3. Be Aware: Paying attention to your child will give you ideas and clues about their likes, dislikes, desires, goals, wishes. You will see where they thrive. I know my son. From the time he could stand and throw a ball, and I mean literally just that, he could throw a strike down the hallway to me. I knew then that baseball would be the sport he would thrive at. Did I push him to it? No. I personally wanted him to play football, but through the years I changed my mind. Knowing my son, I see that he likes to know what his assignment is, do his assigned task and still be a part of a team. Also he is not a very aggressive type physically. Football is out. Basketball? He’s tried it and it is mayhem at his age because other kids don’t do their assigned tasks on the team. But baseball? He is the starting outfielder his first year playing. I mean that as in they put him where they know a team hits to most. He is also the clean-up hitter. That means he is their power hitter. His first year playing. I also can pick out a book I know he will like. Why? Because he is like me and I’ve noticed it. He likes non-fiction books and will be watching a documentary on public television he turned to.
  4. Patient: Here is a big one. Patience is a hard thing to be at times. But if you are a screamer, a yeller, you will not connect with your child. And if you are a physical punisher to a bit of the extreme, you will definitely not connect. I know that one personally. Kids do dumb things at times. You will think your kid is mature one moment and then do something completely their age the next and it will make you so mad. Just remember their age and take deep breaths and count to a million.
  5. Affectionate: Here is another tough one, especially for a lot of men. Hug your child, no matter their age. Why? So you can teach them hugging and being affectionate is normal and a hug is a sign of love. Left on their own and without a role model, they will turn elsewhere. Hugging will turn into something not simply meant as a sign of love and affection for someone. Also words are signs of affection. Tell your child you love them. Tell them you are proud of them for random things. Or maybe say “That was awesome” to something random. Don’t reserve those words for good grades or athletic achievements.

Connecting with your child teaches them to connect with others and that takes care of a lot of things out there. You may not realize it but they are learning all those things you are doing, each of those five things I mentioned above, simply by observing what you are doing. They know you are listening, they know you are being patient.

By modeling for them these characteristics we are helping the future.

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge #45 Pitch&Time

PLEASE READ!

To make it easy for everyone to visit all the  Haiku participants, please only use one of the sharing options of ping back or pasting your link in comments below. I am working on another option. Whatever you use, make sure to mention, if you like, the challenge in your post so others will know where to go in order to join in as well.

If you do a ping back AND comment with a link, that’s okay. No worries. This is just something I’m trying out to make it easier for people to get to everyone to read.

Now to the normal Challenge Post.

All links on this page will open in this window.

Challenge 45

challenge45

Welcome to HaikuFu.

.

Who will be fast as lightning and be the first to post and be reblogged here on RonovanWrites?

Want to know How to write a Haiku Poem in English Form? Click here for the article. Also here you have an article that shows you a little about Haiku used in Haibun and Tanka as well. Haiku in English is the primary form for the challenge but you can use any of them. This is about being creative and pushing yourself to share a message or image in very few words.

Warning: Haiku is Addictive.

Welcome everyone to the Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge. You may have found your way here through The Daily Post pages, the WordPress Reader, Twitter, Google+, or however you found us, we’re glad you came. I’m not just saying that. After you have been with us for a time you will realize we aren’t just a place to share a three line poem. We are a community of friends here. That doesn’t mean you have to talk to us. Just visit the various Haiku and click Like if you actually like something.

I created this challenge to have a place for people to share and gain a little exposure to other readers they might not have otherwise AND of course to enjoy Haiku. We all have different people who visit our blogs.

Provide your Twitter Handle IF you have one. I usually can get it from sharing your Haiku through your Twitter sharing button. If you have a Twitter and don’t  have it linked to your account don’t worry you can still have the share option work with the handle. Click here to find out how to have your Twitter Handle show up in your share option. You know. I have a how-to article for just about everything. If not? Ask and I’ll write one. Also it is helpful if you have Google+ to follow me there by clicking here so I can include you on the Weekly Review when I post it there. I try to post it there but illness has been taking its toll lately, but hopefully you will see it there soon.

Don’t know what I mean by share options? The share options are those little buttons you have on your post where people can click and SHARE your post on Twitter or Google+ or Facebook or wherever else.

About commenting with your link to your post. I advise it. I think more people click the comment links. Yes, do a ping back, but do a comment link if you think about it. Go ahead and put your twitter handle in there. I think it’s a good idea for readers to follow you that are passing through.

Pitch & Time

My Example

I pitch you a curve,

When it’s To my advantage ,

Time will deliver.

I pitch you a curve when it’s to my advantage.

When it’s to my advantage time will deliver.

You do not have to include the sentences within your post, but it does help others understand how Haiku works if you do.

So you’ve written the  Haiku and you’ve created the post. Now what?

  1. You can put a the link of this post in your post and it should, I say should, do a ping back to this post and I and others should see it.
  2. Or you may copy the link of your post, once it has been published, in the comments of this post. That’s a guarantee for it to be seen and I will be certain to include it in the Weekly Review.
  3. Visit other people’s Haiku.
  4. The deadline is Sunday by Noon EST. That’s New York City time.
  5. Shortly after Noon EST the Weekly Review with the names of each blogger, their site names, the name of their Haiku and a link to that Haiku will be published, along with my thoughts, and the Twitter Handle of each person.
  6. The Weekly Review is then Tweeted. The ‘Choices’ are tweeted with the first Tweet. I then continue to tweet, if able, the post until every person’s twitter handle has been mentioned.
  7. I also Post the Weekly Review on Google+ with the Twitter Handles and if I am your friend on Google+ I include you there as well.

What’s a Ping Back?

A ping back is when you place the URL from the address bar of this post into the post you write your Haiku on. It will look something like this,

https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-45-pitch-time/

You also have to make certain the link is actually in there by clicking on the add link button which is next to the right alignment button for WordPress. To me the add link button kind of looks like a diagonal paper clip. It’s the fifth from the right in the WordPress post editor. Click here to find out how.

For a full refresher or How to write Haiku in English click here. But you can use whatever Haiku style you want to. As long as you, do a Haiku.

Let your kids be them and not you.

I haven’t done a Sunday Thought in a  while, in part due to a lack of energy. Okay, so it is all due to lack of energy, but today I figure why not. I’ll take a nap afterwards. 2 hours of sleep in the last 36 hours or so just doesn’t cut it.

So today I wanted to talk about something I care about a lot and that’s the encouragement of children. This won’t be a long one or a revelation one. It’s simple.

We look around today and see all the madness in America involving racial issues, violence, and all sorts of things. Some things are improving but a lot of things are worse or seem to be with the ease of reporting what’s happening now over how it was so many years ago.

I don’t tell my son to go out and treat people a certain way. In fact it rarely comes up. The only time it does is when there are bullies at school. Bullies are a bit silly when it comes to my son. If my son ever really wanted to deal with one in a physical way, the bully would be hurting for a while, but physical isn’t my boy “B”s first thought. Just like it’s never been mine. For me it may be a day later before the slow burn gets to me and I wish I had done this or that, but in truth wouldn’t have anyway.

I’m proud of what my son has accomplished this year in school. He’s one of only two kids in his grade to be recognized and accepted into an academically gifted student talent search program by one of the top universities in the country and the world. He’s 10. He said the other students looked at him kind of strange when he walked down the hall after Honor’s Day and it was announced to the school. I think maybe he just was noticing something that wasn’t there. But I told him to be proud of it.

My focus with my son is on him being him. And the beset whatever him that means. He and I share a lot of the same characteristics and interests but I consciously make an effort not to put my wishes on him. He’s turning out to be better than I was, if not a little more headstrong than I was. Stubborn? Imagine that.

I thought I would share a picture of “B” today. No, not an actual photo but my portrait from a photo taken at Honor’s Day with his ribbon showing his acceptance into the program. I missed the program. The email came out the night before at a time no one checks their email. But the school takes pictures and puts them up for all of us to see. So here you are. Now you sort of know what B looks like.

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge 44 Review

Featured Image -- 91117

For those of you wondering, the character in the center is my creation for the word Lovers. The previous weeks was a Chinese character that meant love or could be lovers, but I chose not to reuse, and created my own instead. No, not a bunny ears thing, that’s a pair of lovers with their heads on the shoulder of the  other and forming a heart of sorts. You can figure out the rest for yourself.

Missing a lot of our Haiku Family this week. Don’t you love this time of year? Sarcasm much?

Week #44 Haiku Challenge Review of the Words Charge & Lovers

Be aware all links and images if clicked will open in a new window. Links are in blue and usually underlined. I believe they look cleaner and nicer this way rather than having a URL showing on the page.

A piece of advice. Although Ping Back are seen and may be clicked on by visitors to the weekly challenge post, I am seeing that comment links seem receive more visitors, at least for newer members of the challenge.

New This Week

Mari T. of Overcoming Static: “trying all things fiction to overcome the static of life. being a haiku fiend at this time.”~From the About Page. The Haiku: The Full Moon. Nice. Thinking here. Not one that should require me to think a lot. Straight forward but there is something about it that makes the mind wander around it a little bit. I like it.

First to Enter this Week:

Edwina of Edwina’s Episodes: Love For Hire. A bit telling if you think about it. Shame shame shame. The thoughts to come to ones mind when given words. I was thinking of a spark between lovers when I came up with charge. But I have to say, it is fun seeing what people come up with.

Mira of They, You And Me and To Wear a Rainbow blogs: Coming in only 7 minutes after Edwina, man, this must have been an easy pair of words. Lovers. OOOO, she always comes up with some good ones. Queen Bee is Mira’s other blog submission this week. Submission? I just read Ritu’s Haiku and I think she’s influenced my thinking here. This one is kind of sad really. Never thought about it this way before. @BediMona

Sue Vincent from Daily Echo: One. Okay, I think she got thinky on me here. Hmm, but thinking as I do, I shall not give my definition of umm, things stated. Sue is one of our resident authors with a LOT of books on Amazon. Click here to check them out. @SCVincent  But Check out her NEW BOOK by clicking the image. Available in Paperback and for Kindle.

Annette Rochelle Aben: Golden. I might be saying oooo a lot this week. Perhaps I will just go ahead and say assume an oooo from now on and it will save me some typing.

TJ Paris of La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin: Why Charge Lovers?. A good question, with a good reason behind it and of course does give an answer, but one even he doesn’t really like. GRRRR, business!

ladyleemanilla: Three this week. Ahhh, Young “Love”.. Sometimes it’s difficult to come up with a title for these Haiku, but I enjoy it. Three this week and in a way they are all connected.

Serins of Serins Sphere: Blood runs cold. Apparently into vampires. @SerinsSphere

Elizabeth of Tea & Paper: Penny Lost. A bit odd of a name but I came up with it for a reason. It goes with the image and actually with the Haiku as well. @TeandPaper

Alka Girdhar of Magnanimous WordNot Charge Enough. Four this week! I think the prompt words charged her up. 🙂 Her creativity that is. Geesh people. @girally

Meredith of Meredith’s Musings: Nature and Rescue. I’m thinking the second Haiku is in response to her having ventured too close in the first Haiku. 🙂 I a sure there are a lot of rescuers lined up.  @Meredithlbl

Ritu of But I Smile Anyway…: Two this week.  50 Shades and Sentence. ooooo, see I said it and was trying not to. Ritu going all in charge on us in that first one, or is she? Hmm. You have to read to find out. Am I teasing? Okay, far enough with that. And wasn’t even intentional. 🙂 That second was is great.

Martha of Meredith’s Musings: My Need and Hold Your Horses. Ha, I like her question for me at the beginning. Great advice given here. People need to read and learn.  @Meredithlbl

Sandra of Wild Daffodil: Love. So last weeks review of Sandra’s Haiku was a bit odd. I think I didn’t delete something in there and it was confusing. This week, let’s see if I do better. Two Haiku this week. Lot of hand holding going on. That second one works well for sure. The opposite meanings of the two sentence structure really brings out something. Really cool shell art she did.

Marjorie of Kyrosmagica: 2 This week. One Humor and One Serious. Cash Desk Woes and Lover’s Staff. She’s a guilty woman. Um, her words, not mine. Go find out why.

Prakash of It’s PH:   Busted!. I wonder if this is autobiographical? 🙂 Hmm. @itsPhTweet

Greg of Potholes in the Road of Life: To The End. A story of love and end and continuance really.   @greg_wolford

Florence of Meanings and Musings: Sparks I think there is a Haiku but I was a bit taken with the image used. Took me a while to figure out the parts. I must be getting old. Oh, wait, it’s the amnesia. I don’t remember certain things. Oh, the life of a 40 something year old virgin.
@FTThum

Shida Tahirah of 876LoveR: Charging With Hope. At first when I saw this title I thought of credit cards and hope of money to pay them off. Then I read the Haiku. In a way, it still fits. 🙂 Although I don’t believe that is the intent.

Rachael Ritchey of Writing Rachael Ritchey: Through It All. Interesting. Sorry if I’m a little slim on my reviews for the next few poets. This is my first one after about 2 hours sleep. Could be dangerous. I hope you read typonese. Remember to check out her book The Beauty Thief is available on Amazon with great reviews.

SW ysobel of Spunky Wayfarer(oh well) Oooookay. Clicked to hear how the Haiku ‘sounded’. I am now slightly disturbed. Not what I was expecting. Very odd sounding voice. @SpunkyWayfarer

Chennai of Twisted Tales on Life: Three this week. For My Ex Lover. Three this week. Hmm. I think a situation that is probably more common than not if people are willing to admit. Some people are just not willing to give it all and accept it all. Commit or not. That is the question. Just so you know, men have issues. It takes years for some to get it, and some just never understand.

Nato of Chasing Life and Finding Dreams:  Lost Love. Well, you did skip a week of Haiku so I mean I guess  things wane a little. But really, strangers? Come on. After knowing me, how could you ever forget me? And don’t forget that Michelle also has something else other than great writing talent going for her. Visit Michelle Lunato Photography. @MichelleLunato

Colleen of Silver Threading: Dark Lovers. First up, new look to her blog. I like her previous look, I think because of how much of a header you could see and that was entertaining to me. But you have to try new things at times. I’ve thought about doing it, but it can be a pain if the themes are not compatible. Now for the Haiku. Uh oh, say it isn’t so. Ron in the doghouse? Just kidding, we all know that’s not possible. And I mean her Ron, not me Ron. I know, it confuses me at times. @ColleenChesebro  Also remember to drop by the LWI site and read Colleen’s Book Reviews. She is excellent. Click here to see everything she’s written.

Khor Hui Min of Project Prose:  Sweet Embrace. Very nice. I really enjoyed this one. MUST READ. @MinKhor

Vashti Quiroz-Vega: Baby Take Your Time. I got to choose the title this week. As I read the Haiku and then thought, a song lyric came to mind. Below is the song. Get Vashti’s current book, The Basement on Amazon by clicking here.

Skybright1 of from heart to head: Love’s Time. An interesting message. Still thinking about it. Kind of deep for me after so little sleep. I think all should go read and see what you think.

Claudette of to search and to find happiness in every day: Open Hearts. In a way I think she and I had similar takes on this, even with different Haiku. Very nice.

Melissa M of This, right now: Ceasefire. Very interesting imagery here. I can see this one. I like that second line a lot.

Juliet of Battered Wife Seeking Better Life: The Knight & The Damsel. Hmm. Bravely moving forward with love. I got it. @BWseekingBL

Canaf of Faithful Devotionals: Who’s In Charge.  Ah, good message. Very true. Surprised after reading so many but not sure why as was staying with theme of blog.

Marjorie of Kyrosmagica: 2 This week. One Humor and One Serious. Cash Desk Woes. She’s a guilty woman. Um, her words, not mine. Go find out why.

And the Closing Haiku:

Charge the gates of Hell

Searching for that only one,

Lovers are worth time.

The best tip I have to get Blog Traffic.

Thought I would give the biggest and best tip I have about blogging views and traffic today. But you’ll have to wait a moment for it.

I’ve seen so many posts/articles that go on about how if you post like this or that and during these hours and the like you will get a lot more views. To some extent they are correct.

I’ve written articles about where the views come from as in do the source of the clicks to your site come from Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr or whatever.

But here is the honest deal to it all. The more friends you have that know about your site and read your site the more people you have share your articles elsewhere.

I don’t share my work in many places right now. Twitter is pretty much it, and Tumblr by default. Really those two are defaults built into my blog. But I get views from other sources. Facebook is one. I rarely share an article on facebook, yet I get a decent number of views from there, well on average they are okay, but not like stellar. But for not even using facebook for the purpose of sharing my articles, getting views from there is pretty good. Same goes for Reddit.

You see, your focus should be on writing great content and making great friends. Doing that means you end up with a great blog. Those great friends share your work with their friends. Is that why you make those great friends? No. It is a side effect of doing what you are supposed to do on your blog-Write Great Content.

What is great content? That’s all dependent upon the writer. Do I have great content? I’m not sure. I write from the heart and mind and leave it at that. I don’t make the effort to weave a tapestry of words that will enthrall people. This article, for example, is all stream of thought and won’t be edited. This is it, how I think and how I write.

The content you come up with may end up being a poem, a short story, a blog tip or a challenge of some type. But the truth is, if you are writing those just to get traffic on your blog then people will know it. Thus, it’s not great content.

When I get a lot of traffic on my blog, it’s an accident. I don’t really post at the best times or anything. I post at midnight sometimes which is an awful time to do so and I get hit by 200+ clicks for that article.

You want lots of views to your site, lots of traffic? Write and make friends. Forget all the headaches of research. Yeah, read the advice, but don’t get caught up in all of it too much. Focus on those two things I mentioned and you’ll end up just fine.

Haiku, Tanka, and Haibun. It’s all poetry to me. Learn the difference.

Some of you may have run across two strange words while reading the Haiku offerings in the Haiku Challenge each week.

Those words are Tanka and Haibun. Both look a lot like Haiku. There is a reason for that.

Starting with Haibun.

Haibun is a Haiku but is more prose related than poetry related. A great deal of what many of you write is a Haibun as opposed to a Haiku.

What you do is write the prose part and then write a Haiku related to it. A lot of you do that and I love it. The content can be autobiographical, non-fiction, or fictional. Write your prose in a paragraph or two, and often with a little more flare than a normal paragraph, if you choose to do it that way, or simply write a couple of paragraphs the normal way. Then follow that with your Haiku that sums up what you said in a Haiku of the 5/7/5 syllable structure but is more one long sentence made up of the three lines instead of the usually Haiku in English of two sentences made up using the second line as a common part of each sentence.

You will be at ease
Once trying this new method
Of writing your life.

That’s a Haibun type Haiku. I wrote a paragraph about something, and then the Haiku summed it up.

Normally in Haiku in English, it would be something like,

You will be at ease
Once you try this new method,
Write your life with ease.

Here you have that second line being the end of a sentence.
You will be at easy once you try this new method.

And then it is the beginning of a second sentence.
Once you try this new method write your life with ease.

Now let’s look at Tanka , also at times may be called a Waka.

This one is pretty simple as well.
You have the syllable structure of 5/7/5/7/7.

You have the upper phrase of the 5/7/5.
And you have the lower phrase of the 7/7.

The upper phrase would be your traditional Haiku in English style. The lower phrase then is connected by that third line.

I learned of some new
Styles of poetry today,
Made up of many
I could spend all of my days
Writing each poetry style.

You can see how line three connects with the lower phrase. (Bold above is only for this article, not to be included in actual Tanka.)
Made up of many, I could spend all of my days writing each poetry style.

I know my examples here aren’t the greatest, but I wanted to give you the idea of what the styles are like. If you are doing the Haiku Challenges, it’s fine to try the Haibun and Tanka out instead. Stretch your creativity and expand your experience.

Your Ordinary is My Extraordinary. #BeWoW

Ordinary and extraordinary, two words with different meanings and words that kind of confuse me at times. I see a lot of saying this is an ordinary this or an extraordinary that. Perhaps even I say those things at times, but for real, what is the deal?

Do you want to be extra ordinary, which basically means remarkable, exceptional, or special? What? So being ordinary is sort of being remarkable?

Now we come to what I want to talk about. What really is meant by ordinary? I see people say this about a poem or a book or a picture they drew and to me whatever it is seems awesome.

None of us should ever sell ourselves short on whatever we do. At that moment in time that is what you are doing and can do. “But I could have done better.” Maybe so but at that moment you did what you did and can’t change it so why dwell on it? Like I’ve said many times in my writings, dwelling is a house made of wood or brick, not a place to live in made of your past mistakes or missed opportunities.

Ordinary to you may be extraordinary to me. By changing how you look at what you do perhaps you will change how you do. Just consider every moment as your best moment. No matter what it is, it is the best at that moment you can have. And then that moment is replaced by the next best moment.

I don’t dwell in the past, I can’t. I know some of you may be thinking since Ronovan has amnesia it’s kind of a given that I can’t dwell there. But I don’t dwell on what I miss. I can’t. If I do then I miss out on what is happening now, what can happen and what may make me better as a person and maybe one day make everything come back to me. If I dwell on the negatives and the stress of life I will never accomplish anything.

I am working on cartooning right now. With my hands, body, and mind it is probably one of the worst things I could be doing, but it is something I WANT. I could tell myself it is impossible so give up and lie in bed all day and stop doing anything. But I don’t. I push and push until I get to where I want to be or at least continue on that path.

Today realize your ordinary is extraordinary. The foundation of exceptional is based in your everyday life. Keep moving forward and fill your life with special.

Much Respect

Haiku Challenge procedure change. Please Read. (Edited)

It’s come to my attention that having both a pingback and a comment showing in the comment section of the Haiku Challenge post is making it a little difficult for some to actually be able to read everyone’s Haiku.

People are clicking on the pingback and then go and click on the comment link and are at the same Haiku.

I know you can look at both and usually tell who they are as in looking at the pingback and the comment and telling they are from the same person but at times you can’t. Some names of blogs don’t make the URL name of the blog. Very confusing at times.

Thus from now on:

Please only do one or the other.

Either do a pingback or a link in the comment section of the Haiku Challenge post.

Which is best?

I think people interact with the comment more and are more likely to click it.

The pingback is a way for your readers to find my blog and the challenge post. But you can always put the link in your post and just make sure it isn’t active. That way they can copy and paste. That is if that’s something you want to do. It’s all up to you. You guys are how people are finding the challenge.

I appreciate what all of you do to help this Haikumily grow.

Edit: A couple of people have suggested I use a linky type thing where people can put their link in and all people have to do is click a button on my post and see all the links. I already have  a inlinkz account and I may try this out next time.

Tomorrow is #BeWoW Day. Ordinary or Extraordinary?

Tomorrow is #BeWoW Wednesday, my weekly Twitter blogshare of positive posts. This week the suggested topic is to write about  Talk about what being ordinary and extraordinary means to you or describe some event or accomplishment in your life that matches those words.

Mine will be about the current racial problems here in the US.

An excerpt from my post.

None of us should ever sell ourselves short on whatever we do. At that moment in time that is what you are doing and can do. “But I could have done better.” Maybe so but at that moment you did what you did and can’t change it so why dwell on it? Like I’ve said many times in my writings, dwelling is a house made of wood or brick, not a place to live in made of your past mistakes or missed opportunities.”

ronovan writes copyright

Ardent Nights. My Haiku for my Challenge this Week.

Ardent-Nights

A New Life Awaits

Life is all about having your moments. Moments that sweeps you off your feet. Moments that take you by surprise. Moments that make you feel proud as an individual. One of my life changing moments happened some months ago when I was offered an opportunity to move abroad. I took my time, made an informed decision and took the opportunity. Now, a new chapter of my life will commence.

As a child, the United States fascinated me as a nation. There was a prepossessing quality about it. Right from the landscape to the people to the culture to the expansion and advancement, I just loved it all. When I grew into a young woman, I loved the sitcoms. In fact I’m a diehard fan of a lot of shows broadcasted on networks like CBS, ABC, and NBC etc.  My current favorite is Louie. However, I never knew working with these networks and making it big would be in my future. Writing about it today makes me so happy.

Moving to a new place is always exciting. When the relocation takes place across hundreds of miles in not only a new country but also on a new continent, it becomes even more thrilling. I am someone who is a lover of travelling. More than travelling, I’m a lover of solo travel. I, my bag pack and my travel journal make an excellent combo. Exploring new places and wayfaring through different cultures is magical. Travel transforms a person. Travel offers an individual endless opportunity. It adds a new perspective in one’s life. It makes a person responsible. Most importantly, travelling makes a person a little more of who he/she really is.

Moving to United States will be an experience of a life time. I can vouch for it. Every experience counts – the good and the bad.  Each experience will be a bit of a teaching moment. Every time I think of landing there, an innocent but subtle smile shows on my face. I do have some friends and folks there but there is a huge difference between listening to people’s experiences and having experiences of your own. There is just so much to learn, so much to sink in. Moving out to another country is moving right out of your comfort zone and into a world that is strange but inviting.

My job profile demands me to spend the majority of my time in California. That is where I will be based. California is one of my favourite states in the USA. The others being New York, Florida, and Massachusetts. I am sure I will keep adding more places to this list. California allures me, and not just now but always. Cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose , San Diego etc. make it such a happening place. Top notch universities like Stanford, UCB and Caltech make it one of the finest hubs of education too. Not only is California the hub of the entertainment industry in the world but also the home to ‘Silicon Valley’.’ Not to forget, it is one of the most liberal states

Can’t wait to catch a plane and land there. I guess, my first weekend will be spent taking a tour of the city I’ll live in – San Diego. Oh the lovely city of San Diego along the coast of the majestic and beautiful Pacific Ocean with its delightful beaches.  I have been reading some journals on the place and am extremely happy to know that it has one of the best climates in United States. San Diego remains pleasant throughout the year. I come from a place in India that shares this feature so I feel comfortable. A combination of good weather and good landscape is pure bliss. As a kid I always wanted to be a part of the crowd watching dolphins performing some impressive aerial acts at Sea World. Back then I had no idea that one day I will be in that crowd.

After San Diego, Tinsel Town  – Hollywood is what I’d love to visit.  My first step in Los Angeles might give me goose bumps. That is my level of excitement. Walking on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, visiting all the studios which are world famous, taking a tour of the eclectic Hollywood Museum , all of these activities are on my ’To-do-list.’ Just writing about all this right now makes me so elated. Only God knows what will happen when I am  there in person.

Living on your own is a profound learning experience. Managing the smallest chore at your house to making last minute arrangements for a board meeting is all a part of that experience. Meeting new people every day with diverse ethnicities is exciting. Getting to know the most professional people and seeing them work is inspiring. They say, “If you’re the smartest person in a room, you’re in the wrong room.” I believe this is to be true. Seeing people much more established than you makes you want to move up in life too. Performance is the only key to step up that ladder of life. The more the challenges, the more is the growth in an individual. It does get difficult at times but I’ve always held the view that difficulties are like training camps. Every difficulty, every struggle makes you stronger and a little cut above the rest.

Being away from home, away from the people I love, away from my food, away from everything comforting is scary. But taking a giant leap of faith and trying something out of your comfort zone is always worth it. It refines you. It really does. My people will be missed but I know they are comforted to see me making it on my own. They are proud I am pursuing what I wanted to. I feel grateful that I have parents that have supported me like a solid rock all this while. I come from a family where empowering daughters is a priority. Growing up I didn’t really realize the importance of having a liberal family. But today, I can’t thank them enough.

Not everything will be perfect but I will hang in there getting exposed to new facets of life every single day. I will grow. I will evolve and I will adapt. I have always ‘Lived it real.’ I will continue to be this way even in a foreign land. This is my moment and I’ve waited for it for a very long time. Now it’s time to step out from one home to another.

Episode 323: Love For Hire. by @Edwinasepisodes For My Haiku Challenge.

First in, EDWINA! Um, perhaps I should rephrase that. I am not sure if the Haiku is humorous or she’s heard this pick up line a few times too often. I have a feeling there are a lot of black eyes where she lives. Oh, the Haiku that will be coming from these prompt words this week. What have I done?

Judy E Martin's avatarEdwina's Episodes

Its time for Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenge again and the words to incorporate this time are ‘charge’ and ‘lovers’. I like the sound of these!

Here is my attempt.

Love For Hire

“How much do you charge,

I’m in need of a lover?

Please say you are cheap! ”

Challenge 44

haiku-44

Welcome to Haiku Fu.

Last week for the Haiku Badge/Image I used the Chinese character for Love. It also can be used for Lovers. Afterwards I found I had actually made the calligraphy character. I wish I had known that at the beginning, it wouldn’t have taken so long to make. However I don’t like to repeat ,use;f when I create thus for Lovers this week I created my own character of sorts.

Who will be fast as lightning and be the first to post and be reblogged here on RonovanWrites?

Want to know How to write a Haiku Poem in English Form? Click here for the article.

About commenting with your link to your post. I advise it. I think more people click the comment links. Yes, do a ping back, but do a comment link if you think about it. Go ahead and put your twitter handle in there. I think it’s a good idea for readers to follow you that are passing through.

Charge & Lovers

My Example

Ardent nights give charge,

In ways morals fear admit,

Lovers freely give.

Ardent nights give charge in ways morals fear admit.

In ways morals fear admit lovers freely give.

You do not have to include the sentences within your post, but it does help others understand how Haiku works if you do.

So you’ve written the  Haiku and you’ve created the post. Now what?

  1. You can put a the link of this post in your post and it should, I say should, do a ping back to this post and I and others should see it.
  2. I recommend as well for you to copy the link of your post once it has been published in the comments of this post.
I then continue to tweet the post until every person’s twitter handle has been mentioned.
  7. I also Post the Weekly Review on Google+ with the Twitter Handles and if I am your friend on Google+ I include you there as well.

What’s a Ping Back?

A ping back is when you place the URL from the address bar of this post into the post you write your Haiku on. It will look something like this,

https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/05/11/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-44-charge-lovers/

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge 43 Review

source-shadow-borderFor those of you wondering, the character in the center is the Chinese character for love or lovers, depending on context. For the challenge I used it in relation to my example Haiku and the source being love.

Week #43 Haiku Challenge Review of the Words Want & Tatters

Be aware all links and images if clicked will open in a new window. Links are in blue and usually underlined. I believe they look cleaner and nicer this way rather than having a URL showing on the page.

A piece of advice. Although Ping Back are seen and may be clicked on by visitors to the weekly challenge post, I am seeing that comment links seem receive more visitors, at least for newer members of the challenge.

New This Week

Oliana of Traces of the Soul: “Hello and Welcome to Traces of the Soul where I try to Whisper Insights.  This is a place to let ideas, thoughts, reflections and insights flow.  Some posts may be my sharing events in my life and other times just reflections…an idea stirring and has to get out.  I use a pseudonym here so I can freely write whatever crosses my mind.  I have another blog where I am the “public me” but that comes with restrictions that do not bind me at Traces of the Soul.”~From her Welcome page. I’m putting her in our New This Week because I am a touched confused about things. I think she has participated but you guyes know me. So playing it safe.  Source of JoyA very good and timely one for this time.

Becky G of Becky G? Oh, That’s Me!: “How I wish that this world, could be a beautiful and safe passageway for us all.”~From her About page. A WHOLE LOT MORE there but I liked that one line best. The Haiku: Stuck. I think that title and the Haiku pretty much matches us all.

First to Enter this Week:

TJ Paris of La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vinWestminster. Perhaps an odd choice for a title for a Haiku, but it’s the name on the post, although it think it has more to do with the post than the Haiku, but I am using it anyway. I enjoyed the Haiku, the photography and the story attached to it. A good addition to our group. I think we will all enjoy his enthusiasm for all things ancient. So sayeth the Historian.

Edwina of Edwina’s Episodes: Panic. The first up to comment on the meanness of my challenge. Okay, she didn’t say meanness, she said monster. Every now and then I like to throw something in to challenge all of us, including myself. I interpret her as the panic I as the “____” source.

Elizabeth of Tea & Paper: Nightmare. I am beginning to develop a complex now. I seem to be the source of panic and nightmares. Hmm. Must make challenge more difficult. 🙂 @TeandPaper

Mira of They, You And Me and To Wear a Rainbow blogs: Baby, Baby ,Baby. Um, not sure where that came from, but go check out Mira’s Haiku and you might figure it out. And she called it a difficult prompt. Hrmph. And Mira’s second one. What? You thought there would only be one? Misery. Really? My prompt words inspired misery? @BediMona

Greg of Potholes in the Road of Life: The Source of Wisdom. Well, he got the source right. 🙂 And no, it wasn’t me. Although I am a fount of knowledge and youth.   @greg_wolford

Alyssa of Battered Wife Seeking Better Life: Kismet. OOOOOOO. Who knew Fonzi was making a comeback. 🙂 I mean, first, last, you know. It is what it is. Or is it Chachi? @BWseekingBL

Sue Vincent from Daily Echo: Thought. Who didn’t like this one this week? Geesh. I haven’t seen that many likes since, well, okay I don’t get that many likes so now I am depressed. Going to the garden to eat some worms. Sue is one of our resident authors with a LOT of books on Amazon. Click here to check them out. @SCVincent  But Check out her NEW BOOK by clicking the image. Available in Paperback and for Kindle.

Rachael Ritchey of Writing Rachael Ritchey: Full Spectrum of Love. Awww, but I do. 🙂 I now have, “I Run So Far Away” going through my mind. You know, when you have amnesia and a song starts going through your mind you have to google it go nuts thinking that you are actually going nuts because some of these songs just don’t make sense. Remember to check out her book The Beauty Thief is available on Amazon with great reviews.

Rajani of THOTPURGE: Source.  Okay, had to read it a couple of times to get it. Nice use of words, different words than we normally see in everyday language. I liked that. Very nice. MUST READ.

Ritu of But I Smile Anyway…: Two this week.  It and Child. People gonna love that second one!!!!

Sandra of Wild Daffodil: Sky. Hmm. Next week photo challenge for a prompt she does is LOVE. Interesting. Also she liked my image I created. I think she should like win all the choices this week. I can stop now.

Ruth of Mad Meandering Me: Worrier  Excellent. Love the form. The message is great. Identifiable by everyone. MUST READ

Marjorie of Kyrosmagica: 2 This week. One Humor and One Serious. Balloons and Butterflies. Okay, so I began to read the last one first and knowing the first is the humor, I began to worry about Marjorie a great deal. Even to my disturbed and mentally exhausted mind this was most certainly not a humor Haiku. Thankfully I noticed. Her humor one, well, the contents of that one I’m allergic to. Very traumatic experience all the way around. And here it’s after Midnight my Monday morning and I’m doing this review and being scarred even more for life than I am already. Fortunately, with my memory I will hopefully forget it by the end of the summer.

Khor Hui Min of Project Prose:  A Mystery. WooooOOoooOOOo. Does that make you wonder what it’s about? I liked the story the began the post. I love reading about everyone’s life and learning about stuff and throw in a nice photo of something I haven’t seen that is only in that one place and awesome sauce. I typed awesome sauce? I typed it twice and haven’t deleted it. Notice I rarely delete things. I’m cool with being crazy. @MinKhor

Shida Tahirah of 876LoveRNah Leff Yah. I am very happy to hear this. Hmm. An interesting source, but I get it. Someday though. 🙂 I want to visit this source. Also we learn words!!!!

SW ysobel of Spunky WayfarerSecret Yarn Have I ever told y’all that every time I come to this particular poet I get this odd feeling my cat Spunky has learned to use the computer? I wouldn’t be surprised. Imagine for a moment that you arrive home at night and see this white image floating across the roof. Yes, that’s Spunky. He likes to get on the roof of the house, well in cool weather and chill. Kind of spooky. Ghostly even. Do I sound child-like? Go read the Haiku and you might see why I was inspired to be as such. @SpunkyWayfarer

Dr. KO of KO Rural Mad As Hell Blog: Erm, Umm, Dr. KO In the House. Those that have been around and have read the good doctor’s work will understand my choice of title. Especially if they’ve read the Haiku this week. I get it, but how do you come up with a title for that. I thought about Boa Cat, but well why not. Good as any. The Haiku is Boa Cat, you’ll see why when you go check it out.

Geoff Le Pard of TanGental:  2 of them things dis week.  Bird Stew and Gossip Take Care. Quite interesting ones. That first one takes a sharp turn and whams you in the face. Surprises you it does. But it’s Geoff. Why am I surprised? Go to Amazon to get Dead Flies and Sherry Trifle. I don’t know who Sherry is but I mean what’s she doing with the dead flies? But yeah, click here for Amazon UK and here for the US. @geofflepard

Annette Rochelle Aben: Smiles: A Self Portrait. Okay, so it’s my title. Whatever, right? And why do I call it that? Hmm. Do you wonder?

Canaf of Faithful Devotionals: MOVE IT!!!!.  Okay so the real title is OUT OF MY WAY. Awesome use of the photo.

clickerwriter of Captured by Aishwarya: Origin of Life Another great and timely Haiku. Hadn’t thought of this possibility for the prompts and two were along the same lines even if not exactly of the same thoughts. Cool, right?

Serins of Serins Sphere: Solution. Computers, smart phones, software, or my Haiku image design. Seems to apply wherever you go. @SerinsSphere

Rose of Bohemian Nerd: Peace. Very true one here. Two words with different meanings that some don’t realize. Very nice. Sandra of Wild Daffodil called it Meaning-FULL.

Florence of Meanings and Musings: Be GONE! No, not her. Some of you people are soooo literal. That’s the title of her Haiku. I wish it were possible. Wait. It is. I’ve been there and done that.
@FTThum

ladyleemanilla: Three this week. Thinking. Yeah, I know this is the same title I gave the last entry for our Lady Lee but it still applies. Thinky person much? Hmm.

Vashti Quiroz-Vega: Heartache. She wrote three. Okay, she done been talking about my business. I have been whatever that word is when you follow the restraining order. Why she done gone and aired out my laundry? Get Vashti’s current book, The Basement on Amazon by clicking here.

Prakash of It’s PH:   Thinky. Man got thinky and tongue twisty again. Why he do that so much? :). @itsPhTweet

Melissa of The Aran ArtisanUnclouded Thinking. Philosophy of sorts from our Aran Island Girl. I may speak to the subject of the post myself at some point. As always, my views may be predictable or may not. I am an odd one at times. I think it all depends on exactly how you think and view situations. Now people will read what Melissa has to say, then think of what I said, and make an assumption. Don’t you love it when that happens? @thearanartisan

Sarah Brentyn of Lemon Shark ReefPostpartum. There are two Haiku and that second one has great structure. Could be one sentence or two. Very nice.

Josue Mapagdalita (pen name: Sueju Takeshi) of Takeshi’s Flight: The Heart Releases the Truest Kind of Magic. I like to call it The Heart Releases. I don’t know the Potter words that I could have applied. Would have been fun though. Go check it out.

Melissa M of This, right now: The Thinker. Very true. Very true in so many situations.

Marigold of Versus Blurb: Reflection. Glad to be so helpful in your studies. Go purchase Marigold Deidre Dicer’s book The Black Swan Inheritance from Smashwords, Kobo, Barnes and Noble or the iBooks store or purchase it from Amazon on Kindle by clicking here. @MarigoldDicer

Evolving Ruminations: Broken.  Whoa, like some seriously deep broken-ness going on there. Go give a hug. I hope it’s like all just poetic license and not for real.

Claudette of to search and to find happiness in every day: Autumn. C00l. I like how this one flows. Very nice. Imagery is great.

E. Rawls of E. Rawls: Author creating stories and art: Keep Away From Bees and Never Alone  Yep, two of them. Now what is the likelihood of having two people use the word bees in one week for the challenge? Whoa. OOOOO, that second one, nice. Remember another author in the house. I think the best would be to her book page on her weebly site, http://erawls.weebly.com/

Canaf of Faithful Devotionals: MOVE IT!!!!.  Okay so the real title is OUT OF MY WAY. Awesome use of the photo.

And the Closing Haiku:

Think and remember,

My ill from weeks far removed,

The source has returned.
