Quick Tips: 2 For Basic Blogging

Quick Tips: 2 For Basic Blogging

by: Ronovan

1)      When writing an article and you put in images/media make sure to click Preview on the right of the screen before publishing. Sometime what you see in your editing window is not what you will see in the finished article. Do this even for articles without media, just in case.

2)      If you put links in your article/post make sure to click the “Open link in a new window/tab” when you go to insert the link. You don’t want people to leave your own article even if it’s just to go to another one of your articles.

10 Things Every Writer Needs But Never Thinks About

10 Things Every Writer Needs But Never Thinks About

by: Ronovan

There are things that every writer needs that they never think about and no one will ever advise them on. Well today I will share with you those secret things that only the most experienced and dedicated writers know about and like to keep to themselves. But don’t tell anyone or my life will be endangered. And with that I give to you the first secret need:

A Fluffy Butt CushionBean Bag Chair Huge
All serious writers must use one of these. Have you ever noticed that groove that forms on your middle finger from writing for so many years, I call it my writer’s mark? That comes from the wearing away of tissue from all that writing. Well imagine what all that writing is doing to your butt. For some of us that might be a good thing, but for others . . . well I can tell you there are some that need to hang onto what the good Lord gave them or they’ll fall right through the potty seat.

Clock With Multiple Alarm Settings
Those writers who make words their lives forget about everything else. Now enters the need to schedule everything and set an alarm to it.
• Potty breaks
• Lunch
• Taking a drink of water
• Bathing—If not, then skip the next three
• Sex
• Wedding day—if you actually remember to go on a date
• Dates—Otherwise don’t worry about the previous three
If you are a serious writer then you will also need a portable alarm set for appropriate lengths of time after the Potty Break and Date breaks, and possibly the Wedding Day . . . Honeymoons do not require alarms, as long as they are not over 48 hours long.

NairHairy Back Man
This is for men and women writers. Shaving of anything takes too much time. Nair the hair or go super earthy. Unless you are Alan Moore you will not get away with the Sasquatch look.

See-Through Shower Door

With your imagination you will never come out of the shower for fear of what is on the other side of the curtain.

 Psycho Shower

Shamwows
You’re a writer, you know why you need this and where you need this, and I’m not talking about geographical location. Men admit it you have Butt Sweats, get the Shamwow. Women . . . I read about . . . Chest(?) Sweats today. (Sorry I just could not type the other word.) (Why is it warm in here now? Should I include a fan on this list?)

Canaries
These are just in case either; a) the alarm clock does not work, or b) you ignore the alarm clock when it alerts you to shower time. If the Canary dies, it’s time for a shower. Miners used these things for a reason.

Dog
As a writer you’ll need someone who will love you no matter what. Cats are too smart and independent to love you just because you offer them a three day old piece of left out pizza. Plus if you smell like roadkill they will NOT come near you. A dog will still think you are the greatest thing ever since . . . that piece of pizza. Then of course they will intentionally lick your face lovingly after licking their butt. Dogs are sneaky little guys.

Dead Potted PlantPlastic Flowers

Why? You need an alarm to tell

you to go Potty and have Sex

and you are asking why

Plastic Flowers?

A Clue
See Previous Need.

Ideas
If you are making lists of crazy things such a Canaries and Butt Sweat towels then you really need more ideas to write about.

Thus ends THIS list of the 10 Things Every Writer Needs But Never Thinks About. Keep them secret and take them to heart.

My Youth No More

My Youth No More

by: Ronovan

I was part of the group that had brought him to us. Sure, I had been one of those with some doubts but in the end I thought it would be best for the church as a whole. Little did I know that it would destroy my ministry.

There were a number of years you might have called me that Super Christian. I was of the younger generation in the church and thus willing to volunteer for whatever needed to be done. One such thing was youth ministry. As a high school teacher it was only natural that I was drawn to the youth group. I had watched from afar, and then God stepped in and led me to volunteer to help out only to discover weeks later the Youth Pastor was leaving for seminary school and the duty of leadership fell to me.

Even stranger is the fact this happened twice. I helped hire the next Youth Pastor and then slowly stepped back to let him take over. But then with the coming of the new Pastor to our church that I alluded to earlier, things changed.

I often talk about Following for Inspiration. Writers this photo is what I’m talking about. You know you’ve tried to write of a scene like this before and just couldn’t capture it. A Mother of a Letter

A Mother of a Letter

by: Ronovan

I had no idea how it got there but as I slid to a stop on the trail I could do nothing but stare at the giant M.

Looking around I made sure there were no cameramen lurking about ready to punk me as I bent over, hands on knees and sucked wind from my run. My first thought was college prank, but no university around had an M in it. But it was obviously the letter from a sign.

I stood upright and started walking around the mother of an M. That’s when I saw a tag taped on the side with an address. Would have been great if it had been a phone number, but there was nothing else to do but to phone a friend.

“Al,” I said.

“Sup?”

“Look up an address and give me the number for it,” I said and read the address to him. I stared at the letter with narrowed eyes as he gave me the information and then disconnected.

“You liar,” I said staring at it.

I dialed the number. “Walmart, this is Krista, how may I help you?”

Dearest George,
I must admit a fondness for your brilliance. You shine in the sun with metallic glints. But it makes me wonder though, why you are valued at only 25 cents.

Finding Freedom

Finding Freedom

by: Ronovan

Think about a person you hate. It doesn’t have to be someone you personally know. Seriously think about that person. Now think of the sucking of emotional energy from your body the mere name of that person does to you.

It’s similar to that feeling of falling in love in high school or even now really, and aching for the person and then it not happening. You feel like you have the flu you are so drained. Every part of you aches and you have no energy left.

Losing your mind of memories takes that away. As to how I know about how it feels . . . I’ve been writing for 20 years. I have a lot of notes and novels to look back through on that draining feeling. And . . . well . . . I go through it every day. Not the hate part though.

There is a blessing in having a Lost Mind…you have Lost Hate. I literally hate no one.

After losing my mind of memories a great many things became clear to me. I know that sounds a bit odd but having a mind clear of preconceived ideas was and still is something . . . liberating. Just think for a moment of that person from earlier. Do you have it yet . . . that feeling inside?

Now . . . imagine that name has no meaning to you. Imagine there is no emotional history attached to it.

The sad part is that I am reminded of what people are to me, or what they have done to me in the past. That information doesn’t go in my notebook. You may remember that I have a notebook where all the important memories go. I leave out the bad things and immediately begin to think of something else as soon as I can . . . kittens, puppies, hula dancers.

When you lose something you often think negatively. For me the initial loss was negative but even out of something that bad has come something good. I lost my memories but I found a freedom few people will ever be able to find. I found the freedom to live each day knowing people as they are and not how I think they should be.

Spikes and Smiles

Dull railroad spikes through the cracks

Driven constantly as if driven by insanity

Days go by in countless fogs of phantoms

Drifting in and out of vague humanity

Ever wanting to continue onward in smiles

Enters pressing of matter into the prickling race

Even the muscles of effort to upturn lips

Engraves lines of pain on tender skinned face

Writer’s Digest: Self-Publishing to Success to Book Deal

Writer’s Digest has many great articles to read. I’ve been saving their articles for years. Being in a community of people who want to publish some type of work, be it writing or photography, I thought this article would be a good read for those who have the time.

How Hugh Howey Turned His Self-Published Story “Wool” Into A Success (& A Book Deal)

Dear Mr Landlord

I just knew by the name of this one that Amanda had something to say. When does she not, right? She really goes off this time. At least there’s a Happy Meal included. Just saying. Click it and read it. She’s on vacation so check out her stories and follower her here and on Twitter as a surprise when she gets back. @AmandaLyle86 She hasn’t been on Twitter long but is really getting into it.

The Curious Case Of The Man Flu

Yes, I greatly dislike it when she’s right. I almost didn’t share this one with everyone, but grrr…..why am I so honest sometimes? And she makes me LAUGH!!!!! Men don’t take away my man card for sharing this one.  Remember to follow her on Twitter as well

@AmandaLyle86

Click to help Megan’s Author page.

I don’t ask things for myself but we have an author in our community that has books coming out before long and sheneeds some people to click LIKE on her author page on facebook. I did it, and I even favorited it with my own page.
Most of you probably know Megan Elizabeth Morales and have enjoyed her work here on her site. Now go to her facebook page Author Megan E. Morales and support her there with a simple click.

I had the opportunity to speak with her and she is a wonderful young lady and if just half her blog followers liked her on facebook that would be a good start.

Writing Tip: A Writing Method

Writing Tip: A Writing Method

by: Ronovan

Try the way Stephen King writes. No, do it the Nicholas Sparks way! Nope, James Patterson does it best.

Writers want to be successful and often times they will copy another person’s method of writing because they want to have that person’s success. Let me tell you a secret; the reason their method works for them is because it’s THEIR method.

“But others use it too.”

Others may use a similar method but they tweak it to make it their own at some point. Today I want to share a method I developed.

I slipped my VW Beetle onto the onramp to the express way and headed toward the city. The lights in the distance always took my breath as I thought of big city lights and movie stars. My phone rang.

“Hello,” I said.

“Phil, I need you to head over to the Peachtree office as quick as you can,” said Mike.

I rested my elbow on the door and sagged. “I’m headed home, Mike. This traffic is awful. It would take an hour at least.”

“Has to be done. We have a shipment of cable coming in and I need you there to make sure they do it right this time.”

“You owe me for this,” I said and hung up.

This is a very basic scene any of us could write from experience either our own or someone we know, but now it’s time to twist it.

I slipped my single capacity transporter into the draft tube for the express lanes and headed toward the metro center. The lights in the distance lit up the sky and I thought of just how big the metro area was, and how much a vid screen show set it looked like. The comm screen blinked at me.

“Yeah,” I said.

“Phil, I need you over at the Peachtree loading station as quick as you can,” said Mike, his face smiling at me.

I rested my elbow on the frame of the transport, hand covering my mouth, my body visibly sagging. “Mike, I’m headed home and you know it. The traffic is crazy out and the haulers are backing us up. I don’t know why they choose this time of the day to move those big transports through the most packed part of the metro. It would take me at least an hour to get there.”

“You know if it could be done by anyone else it would be,” he said. He leaned forward, his face closer to the screen. “I need to make sure this gets done right. There is a shipment of Dipthonian Lining coming in and it cannot be messed up like before.” There was begging in his eyes.

“Fine, you owe me big. Off.” The screen went blank.

With practice it gets better. But I use the reality based scene to create a believable SciFi or Fantasy based scene. The only differences in the genres really are a few words and the descriptions of the settings and props. People still have conversations and have emotions. You’re not trying to reinvent those things, so don’t try.

If you really think about it you can take the scene in Star Wars where Han Solo is in the cantina and shoots the other character at the table. It was much like you would see in a western. Everything about it could be translated over to an old western or even a Casablanca type scene with very few changes.

I just thought I would share my writing method. It’s not perfect for everyone. It won’t work for everyone. And if you use it you will tweak it to work for you.

What methods do you use?
