Learn about her book and about being Positive. Helen Woo.

Being positive is something that’s contagious. One lady that is always positive is Annette Rochelle Aben, author and Radio Show personality. You might know Annette as being one of  the Global Voices of Social Media: 25 Women Share Stories of Strength, Love and Triumph currently ranked #5 on the Best Seller list but reached #1 in less than a day on Amazon. I bought it and reviewed in on Amazon already. Positivity is all through the book. I met Annette through various ways and was interviewed on one of her radio programs. Yes, one of them. She has two different shows. Actually three.

On Tuesday, February 3 I received my email notice that in 5 minutes her show was coming on and of course I logged in.

Talk about something that just made it all happen. Helen discussed her book Self-Aid: Inspiration to Turn Struggles Into Success. It’s all about the positive. A lot of what she said is exactly what I have been saying here the past few weeks. Of course she has a lot more to say. Check our her site, her book, and everything else she has to offer. Go to her link above and read about her. She’s got a great story to tell.

Get Positive: Sorting Your Junk.

In Preparation for #BeWoW tomorrow I wanted to share the first article that inspired it all.

Ronovan's avatarronovanwrites

People comment often wondering how I stay positive, how I keep doing all I do in the face of what I live with. How can I stay positive through the life I have been given?be positive

Practice. I know that sounds a little odd but as with anything in your life practice needs to happen. I didn’t just wake up and say, I’m good. Okay, perhaps I did, but then I had to do something about it. And by ‘I’m good’ I mean I was not letting my health issues control every aspect of my life.

Deciding to change does have an instant affect. Your view of things does change. You actually begin to see MORE of the negative things of the world. But you have to learn what to do about that view. And that’s where the practice comes in.

You will change but those around you may still be…

Be A #BeWoW Blogger TOMORROW. Blogshare.

#BeWoW blogshare TOMORROW!

BeWoW stands for Be Wonderful on Wednesday. #BeWow is one word. But really you don’t have to wait for Wednesdays. The idea is to post something about Wonderful on Wednesdays, though. It could be a  wonderful experience you had last week, a wonderful memory that came to you, something inspirational or motivational, maybe something encouraging, or just something that brings a feeling of wonderful to you that you want to share.ronovan writes

Each Wednesday a post will show up here on RonovanWrites about something Wonderful for me or maybe a BeWoW Guest Blogger will show up. Post a link to your Wonderful post in the comments to share with everyone.

Write a post and tweet it with the hashtag of #BeWoW and to be 100% positive it does get to me to you can add @RonovanWrites to your Tweet and I’ll RT it. Okay, I’ll RT it when I wake up. 🙂 And other bloggers will be RTing as well.

Make sure it’s a post that is positive, encouraging, uplifting. I think you get the message here. This is not for just a post you want to share. It MUST have the BeWoW message of positivity.

So what do you do?

  1. Create a post or choose one you have that meets the encouraging/positive/wonderful definition.
  2. Share that link from your blog here in the Wednesday #BeWoW post I put out after midnight Wednesday EST. That way others that drop by here can go check you out if they like.
  3. When you share your post on Twitter use the hashtag #BeWoW, all one word, which I have registered and am the administrator of, on Wednesdays. We can all ReTweet what we see and like.
  4. You can include my twitter handle of @RonovanWrites in your Tweet and I will RT everything I see that is positive. Please don’t use this for anything but positive things.
  5. Probably Tweeting is the big part of this for some of you. You don’t HAVE to come to my post and comment, but if you would like to and get some people that don’t do Twitter, then go for it.
  6. If you don’t have Twitter, the original idea for this was for sharing amongst Blog World so drop in here and share.
  7. If you just can’t wait until Wednesday? Post and share later and just make sure to Tweet with the hashtag #BeWow and my handle if you remember and the RT will begin.

ronovan writes copyrightThis is the badge you can use if you like to put in your post and/or your sidebar. My side bar I found that 210×210 pixels is as large as it goes and shows everything. Why is there a copyright in the picture? My son “B” and I took the picture. He did blow the Bubbles while I was on the grown looking up at the sky. He loved popping it and splashing me with the water. Hey, I thought it was a good idea at the time. At least he laughed. And that’s why I chose it as the Wonderful image.

I do hope you join in and #BeWoW every day.

And if you do like the idea, please feel free to share this post by reblogging or tweeting or facebooking (is that a thing?) Goggle+ing? um, Linkedining? Okay, I’m having too much fun with this now.

Much Love

Haiku: Another day

The First Entry into the Haiku Challenge this week comes from Elizabeth. I think it goes well with my own haiku entry. What do you think? Please click through to her site and like the haiku there and follow her. She’s a great supporter.

Pure and Evergreen.

I wrote you letters on your doorstep in late December
Painted through thoughts pure and evergreen

Never knew they would be so briefly held to matter
Why are they memories that won’t escape me

You don’t want to know me

Do you even care
Are you even aware
Do you ever remember loving me

Does your mind dare
Does it go there
Does it ever remember knowing me

I spelled your name in the sky through my bedroom window
Never will I be able to look that way again

I try to write a letter so you will remember
Tears blur the words until I can’t see

My heart burns so
My chest tightens to know
Please, oh please come crucify me

Loving you is a matter of a contradiction
Do you know what that means

Please, oh please you crucify me

The Beast or The Bean

poetry I had some menacing words this week but I thought about it and decided, yes they are menacing. At what could be more menacing than this? For those who may be looking at the Dead Things Taste Good on the fridge? That means all foods. Not just meat. Someone said vegans might get offended. I actually considered that before I wrote those words. I thought it out. I don’t believe we eat anything that is alive. At least I hope I don’t. coffee haiku cartoon

RonovanWrites Weekly #Haiku #Poetry Prompt Challenge #34 Beast&Day

poetry prompt

Challenge 34

Welcome everyone to the Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge. You may have found your way here through The Daily Post pages, the Reader, Twitter, or however you found us, we’re glad you came. I’m not just saying that. After you have been with us for a time you will realize we aren’t just a place to share a three line poem. We are a community of friends here. That doesn’t mean you have to talk to us. Just visit the various Haiku and click Like if you actually like something.

I created this challenge to have a place for people to share and gain a little exposure to other readers they might not have otherwise. We all have different followers.

Provide your Twitter Handle if you have one. I usually can get it from sharing your Haiku through your Twitter sharing button. If you have a Twitter and don’t  have it linked to your account don’t worry you can still have the share option work with the handle. Click here to find out how to have it show up there. You know. I have a how-to article for just about everything. If not? Ask and I’ll write one.

 Beast & Day

Another moment of “I have no idea where these words came from but I’m sticking with them anyway”.

My Example

When comes the last day,

We All will know for certain,

The Beast lost its hold.

When comes the last day, we all will know for certain.

We all will know for certain the beast lost its hold .

So you’ve written the  Haiku and you’ve created the post. Now what?

  1. You can put a the link of this post in your post and it should, I say should, do a ping back to this post and I and others should see it.
  2. I recommend as well for you to copy the link of your post once it has been published in the comments of this post. That’s a guarantee for it to be seen and I will be certain to include it in the Weekly Review.
  3. Visit other people’s Haiku.
  4. The deadline is Sunday by Noon EST. That’s New York City time.
  5. Shortly after Noon EST the Weekly Review with the names of each blogger, their site names, the name of their Haiku and a link to that Haiku will be published, along with my thoughts, and the Twitter Handle of each person.
  6. The Weekly Review is then Tweeted. The ‘Choices’ are tweeted with the first Tweet. I then continue to tweet the post until every person’s twitter handle has been mentioned.
  7. I also Post the Weekly Review on Google+ with the Twitter Handles and if I am your friend on Google+ I include you there as well.

What’s a Ping Back?

A ping back is when you place the URL from the address bar of this post into the post you write your Haiku on. You also have to make certain the link is actually in there by clicking on the add link button which is next to the right alignment button for WordPress. To me the add link button kind of looks like a paper clip. It’s the fifth from the right in the WordPress post editor. Click here to find out how.

For a full refresher or How to write Haiku in English click here. But you can use whatever Haiku style you want to. As long as you, do a Haiku.

For Tips and Guidelines refreshers click here.

DEADLINE: Noon on Sunday New York Time.

There are TWO “CHOICE!” recipients each week. One for Humor and one for something more Serious. The Haiku are quite good each week and I am having to turn to the structure guidelines of a Haiku at times to help determine my selection.

Really each Haiku is a choice of mine, and I’m not just saying that, so I feel a bit odd even having something called A RONOVAN’S CHOICE, but hey, it’s a thing, right? And it does make it kind of fun.

Sincerity & Integrity in Blogging & Life

sincerity-integrity

This is a rather unusual Thought this week. It rambled in my mind over so many areas that I decided to see how it rambled out in words. This will be about Blogging and about Life. For me the two are mostly the same. What dictates what appears on my blog is also what dictates my life.

The Reason

I don’t know about you, but I receive emails asking for tips on how to build a successful blog. They then go on to define successful by how to increase Followers, Likes, people to Comment on their blogs. Well they normally do it through the comment form on my About page but it shows up in my email.

Success is a term that is defined differently by each person. For some reason people think I  have successful blog. I am not exactly sure why. I don’t know really what measures you would look at for that. And in all honesty, I don’t concern myself with it unless I am doing tips. It’s not something I think about every day. People don’t know my numbers so I suppose they have an impression of what they must be. If you have been following me long enough you will have noticed I don’t do Follower milestones any longer. It’s just not a thing. Perhaps I should do Comment milestones but I don’t think WordPress has those.

The Secret

Anyway, here is something people might find surprising that I have done. I don’t look at my stats any longer. Well, I did once this past Thursday because of a recent hashtag movement I started and wanted to see what happened, but that was more out of curiosity than hope or gauging success because the hashtag part is secondary to what I am doing on Wednesday.

How do I know if I am doing okay with my blog in regards to reader visits? I look at ‘Likes‘ and ‘CommentsIF I have a desire to know. And I notice in the notifications if I have people ‘Following‘.

What does this have to do with a Sunday Thought?

“In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.”~Titus2:7-8

How I write and what I write about I do with honesty, sincerity. I don’t do that intentionally most of the time. I write what I think and see what happens. If I have an opinion I write I will go and check some facts before I move on with it.

Sincerity

I can read a post by someone and tell if it’s sincere or not. Or I suppose I should say I can get a feel of sincerity or not.

How? Well there is something you have to consider, does the post match the personality that’s been displayed? There are some great posts out there but when I read them I can’t quite fall in to the grasp of them because it doesn’t fit with the regular content or the actions, or the comments of the person. There is just something missing.

Integrity

Another part mentioned above is integrity. There are just so many ways you can say something about blogging. It’s difficult to be original, however I don’t steal ideas. I experience the things I put out there and then write about them. In fact I intentionally don’t read the experts blog tips because I want to discover things on my own.

And if you really want to know the truth, those experts aren’t so expert at times. I like to give tips the real bloggers can do, not those with nothing but blogging to do in their lives.

I write novels, so I can’t blog all the time. It seems like I am around a lot but I’m not here as much as people think. Also with my health issues I am actually unconscious for more hours than I care to comment on.

Many people can read tips from me and know who wrote them when they are on another person’s blog. Imitation is not the highest form of flattery when it comes to things like that. At least not so much to me.

The Work

Sure, people notice I can write an article in 10 minutes and put out 20 of them in a day with no problem so they don’t think I work at it, the thoughts behind it.

I think all the time. It has taken time to develop my style and voice in my writing and although I don’t say anything to people that copy me, I still am not a big fan of the blatant copying. You know, if you do something, if you copy an idea, if you even copy phrasing, why not put a footnote in the post giving credit? I’ve done that. (Yeah, remember I was a History teacher that graded reports and gave a zero to a kid for taking a book and writing word for word. And yes, it was 40% of his grade.)

I wrote a poem once that was inspired by two other posts I had read. I gave the two bloggers credit and linked back to their blogs right at the beginning.

The Why

Why do people click Like or Comment on my things and perhaps not the copycat’s? Everyone that visits my blog knows that I put every ounce of heart into every sentence. Even if it might make me look bad or it means the reader doesn’t agree with me, they are fine with it because they KNOW I am for real. That’s the only reason I can think of.

Sincerity and Integrity goes a long way in your life. If you follow those two things it’s difficult to be spoken against. We all mess up, but we all should try to get back to the S&I in our lives.

I’ve messed up over time but I’m good now. I stick to what I am and don’t stray from it, even when people are angry at me for being the who I am now.

lady-leeLady Lee Manila of Lady Lee Manila A Girl in Fringe, Pretty in Red : “Ladyleemanila, a girl in fringe, pretty in red Her brains swirl like that crazy cappucino smile”!From the About Page.  Now the Haiku.  Revolution This is my look it up Haiku this week. Learned some history and so loved it.

alka-gAlka Girdhar of Magnanimous Word: I chose this from her About page-“If words have so much power to change the world, then writers should make sure it is a positive change. Let’s keep our words generous and abundant in giving, forgiving, inspiring and sharing.  And that’s what I will try to do through my blog – by using words that convey truth, humour, sadness, romance, inspiration and much more.” I thought those words said so much. Now for the Haiku. There are actually 5 of them. So I will simply keep to War and Fame. Go read for the details along with explanations. She’s just starting her Twitter up again, so please go and follow her.

First to Enter Thunder Dome this Week:

t_a_wyatt_authorT.A. Wyatt of Finale to an Entrance: War: An Internal Struggle. A good story in a few words. If we all don’t experience this I would be surprised. Remember to go purchase a book on Amazon by clicking hereLinger is only .99 and The Mill of Maisonneuve is 1.99. @FinaletoEntranc

Mira of They, You And Me: Two this week in one. The first I will call Love is Fame. The second, Never Healing@BediMona

Faith Unlocked: War: What Is It Good For?. Okay, did anyone else start singing like Jackie Chan from Rush Hour when they saw that title? Okay, okay, okay, I’ll be good. This could be identifying a country I have heard of, or any country actually. @FaithUnlocked

Meredith and Martha of Meredith’s Musings Hee hee hee, Meredith said Phooey last week. I’m still laughing so I had to include it again.. Gotta love it.  War of Wits, Combat, Fame, and War. The ladies are really getting in to Haiku. ! @Meredithlbl

Sue Vincent from Daily Echo: Midnight. Someone is definitely an author.  Sue is one of our resident Authors. Click here  for her Amazon Author Page and all those books she’s written.  @SCVincent

Serins of Serins Sphere: War and Fame. Something of history.  @SerinsSphere

Nato of Chasing Life and Finding DreamsGoing to War. Two Haiku this week and they both have very good messages. And don’t forget that Michelle also has something else other than great writing talent going for her. Visit Michelle Lunato Photography. @MichelleLunato

SW ysobel of Spunky WayfarerFar Out Fame seriously. It’s out of this world. Need. At first I couldn’t think of a title. Then I sat and thought a while and read it through slowly. Finally it came to me.

Geoff Le Pard of TanGental:  Haiku to you, too.  So really there are two here. Dude is too smart. Seriously. And we have another author to add to our family. Go to Amazon to get Dead Flies and Sherry Trifle. I don’t know who Sherry is but I mean what’s she doing with the dead flies? But yeah, click here for Amazon UK and here for the US. @geofflepard

Buffy of Battered Wife Seeking Better Life: Lines of Infamy. Two Haiku with one title I came up with. It’s nice to know the words I am choosing lately are making people think. I don’t always like to throw out easy ones to do. We do have to stretch our minds and creativity at times. @BWseekingBL

Kimberly of K.S. Fause: Enemies. I always enjoy visiting Kimberly’s Haiku. She always  has a great painting to helps inspire her work and this week is perfect. You MUST go see it. @KSFause

Melissa of The Aran Artisan: Food Wars. Well, I have to say that I am very pleased this worked out. Love the story of how this came together. Who knew a family life would lead to overcoming writer’s block? Loved it. @thearanartisan

Elizabeth of Tea & Paper: Wild Fame. Okay, this one had me scratching my head. Then I read the comments. Whew. I mean it could mean a few things but wow. @TeandPaper

Canaf of Faithful Devotionals – Fame. Makes you think. Always a good thing. Still thinking. Makes sense too.

Marigold of Versus BlurbDeep Malignancy. I can’t even talk about it. Just go and look and read everything with it. Go and purchase Marigold Deidre Dicer’s book The Black Swan Inheritance from Smashwords, Kobo, Barnes and Noble or the iBooks store or purchase it from Amazon on Kindleby clicking here. @MarigoldDicer

Florence of Rambling On Blog: Weary. Sometimes it all just gets to be too much. @FTThum

Ruth of Mad Meandering Me: The Wars of the Roses. She doth return! Awesome, she comes with History in her quill. Doth the feather tickle? Hath I gone mad?

Wendy Anne Darling of Silver Lightning: Bound. Poor authors. So fearful of things and that holds them back. Did you know you can get Wendy’s book Silver Lightning at Amazon? You did? Then BUY IT!

Melissa M of This, Right Now: Ruin Porn. At first, with Melissa’s wit, I was expecting something else. Then I got a lesson. This week really brought out a lot of History from people. It’s just amazing.

Colleen of Silver Threading: Anne. More history this week. I suppose war does bring that out. This time there is something very poignant about it. Fame and war do go hand in hand. We would rather that fame never occur. Some fames we truly could have done without but we learned so much. Still wished it never had happened. @ColleenChesebro   ronovan-writes-serious-haiku-badgeMira of They, You And Me: Two this week in one. The first I will call Love is Fame. The second, Never Healing@BediMona Really everyone did great serious this week. But I had to pick one. But if everyone wants to take the serious image, go for it. I so loved this week. It was a great week of Haiku. ronovan writes humor haiku badge Meredith got it this week hands-paws-something down..  War of Wits, Combatr. I really appreciate Meredith every week more than I could ever say. Oh for me to be a few years older, or maybe just a few miles closer. @Meredithlbl   No Haiku from me this week.

And the closing Haiku:

When the war over,

The tragedy is revealed,

That fame is fleeting.

Celebrating Ronovan Writes (No, I didn’t write this.)

I wasn’t going to reblog this because it felt to be self serving. But Wyatt has now been chased off the net by another blogging community. This is who Wyatt is and I am very upset he is leaving. If he reads this I hope he knows he can contact me by email so we may stay in touch, that is if he does leave what he has built.
The reblog shows one the sides of Wyatt that I think we helped him feel comfortable enough to share with us.
You can visit the link below to read why Wyatt is leaving us. I wish there was a way to talk him out of it. I had become fond of our exchanges and enjoyed seeing what that mind came up with for my challenges.
Each week Wyatt’s Amazon link to his books will appear on the Haiku Review moving forward. Along with the images of the covers.

Ronovan Writes Weekend Mick Flick. You Down With Love?

ronovan writes

I suppose you might want to know what a Mick Flick is. Well every man fears, actually dreads two words; Chick Flick. That’s right, we know what it means. Romance, tears and we are deemed as failures either because we are men or because we aren’t the men in that, dare I say it, RomCom.

Instead of Chick Flicks, men need an alternative. And this is something we men need to embrace and women, you should as well and you may find date nights become a whole new experience.

The alternative? Rooster Flicks? No. I don’t even like saying Chick Flicks so giving it some form of relevance by actually calling the alternative as Rooster doesn’t work for me. And with the various possible definitions one could give to Rooster based ones mindset and locale, I am just not going there. No, Male Chick Flick. That’s right, the Mick Flick.

What constitutes a Mick Flick?

  • It needs a touch of humor if it doesn’t have action.
  • It needs to tug the heartstrings in some way, with a message or something.
  • And yeah, an attractive female lead might work out, but it’s not completely necessary. Oh, you don’t believe me on this one? I shall prove you wrong, although attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder. For me it is the eye of the personality. Pretty lady, ugly personality equals scary run the other way. Yeah, NOT attractive.

Today’s Mick Flick is:

Down With Love

down-with-love

Ewan McGregor (Catcher Block)

  Renee Zellweger (Barbara Novak)

David Hyde Pierce (Peter McMannus)

Tony Randall (Theodore Banner)

IMDB 6.3/10 over 30,000 users.

Cromedy this week.

A homage to the Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall movies. Catcher Block is the”ladies’ man, man’s man, man about town’ magazine writer who always gets the scoop but then he is called out in front of all of America by Barbara Novak on national television while discussing her book Down With Love, about how women don’t need men. She names him as the perfect example of ‘The Worst Kind of Man’.

Of course the humor begins when Catcher Block pretends to be an astronaut, Zip Martin to expose her as a fraud when it comes to love and men.

Now time for the BroJo to get going.

Men, why you need to watch this movie.

Comedy. This week it’s comedy and some good old throw back dumb sexist overtones that are so over the top they are funny. By this I mean even women laugh at how dumb the jokes are. Okay, dumb in a good way.

Now to the ranking of the movie:

Good acting: To pull of that old feel of the 1960s and get away with it is great. McGregor and Hyde Pierce nail it. Zellwegger? Well she does okay but she’s no Doris Day. She just doesn’t quite pull it off in my opinion. But I give it an overall Yes.

Attractive Female Lead: Well, As you know personality is a big part of attractiveness to me and Zellwegger doesn’t have it. No.

Insane Characters: I think the basic premise of the movie lends itself to insanity with some antics of McGregor and supporting cast members. Yes.

Humor: I’ll just say Yes.

Bodily Harm: I guess you would say there is that mild bodily harm you might expect from a bit of slapstick comedy send off of those old 1960s movies. Yes.

Food Humor: I don’t think so. No.

Action: There is a little throwing of some things. Yes.

Good Message: I think so. Again, this is about love. So there is a love message here. Yes.

Tear Moment: Nah, dude, not gonna do that to you this week. No.

Male Lead is Not Made Out to Be Stupid: I think McGregor looks pretty smart here. Yes.

Cuddle Taco Bonus: Not this week. Not even a nacho chip.

So on the Taco Scale of 10 Tacos being awesome and 1 being like tacos without the meat, cheese or sauce, today’s Mick Flick receives:

 7 out of 10 Tacos.

Not the Feast but grab some bean dip and you’ll be fine and with no Cuddle Taco Bonus eat all the dip you want.

That’s my Cromedy Recommendation for this weekend. What movie can you think of that meets the Mick Flick requirements? I already have future movies in a list so don’t be surprised if you end up seeing your idea in a future post. Leave a comment and let me know your pick.

Much Respect and Much Cuddling for you This Weekend, well, if you leave out the bean dip.

I wanted say thank you to those you participated in the first #BeWoW (Be Wonderful on Wednesday) blogshare of Positivity. I would name names but I am sure I would leave someone out and if the truth be known, I really am positive I don’t want the messages of “what about me” coming in.

Yeah, I know that sounds bad but it happens at times. But over 20 bloggers were involved in Tweeting about #BeWoW or actually participated in the first day of the blogshare by writing posts or retweeting the posts that were shared on Twitter. I call that success for a spur of the thought thing.

There was a lot of positive feedback about the idea of it all and I look forward to the continued future of #BeWoW. Although it is specifically for Wednesdays you can use the hashtag any time and as I see it I will retweet it.

There will also be a dedicated page here on RonovanWrites to the Positivity movement where you will be able to leave a link to a post you wrote that meets that Positive, Encouraging message. Please, don’t be spammy about it. I don’t want to end up deleting things.

Blogshares are a great way to connect to other bloggers you might not ever even meet otherwise. Does it add to your blog traffic? It could depending on how well you promote the movement. Is that why I did it? No. I wanted a day of positivity as opposed to the negative things we see in the news every day.

I hope all of you will join in next week for #BeWow. Remember the hashtag is #BeWow, all one word, no spaces. And to insure your Tweeted post is ReTweeted by me, include my Twitter Handle @RonovanWrites. I noticed some things were not always properly showing up because of one reason or the other in the Hashtag.

You can also join the Hashtag as a member at Twub.com by clicking http://twubs.com/BeWoW.

Don’t  be surprised if you see mention of blogshares in my book in the works about blogging. A book suggested by one of our Poetic Angels some time ago.

The Male Brain vs. The Female Brain. Boxed in, out or just plain Boxed?

ronovanwrites

Mark Gungor is a man who speaks around the nation about of all things . . . marriage. Yes, after you watch this, he still does continue to speak on the subject and in all honesty I think it’s because he’s dead right and not afraid to say it.

You may find some things he says to be stereotyping but guess what? There is a reason they have those weird laws in your town like, don’t tie your giraffe to a lamp post in Atlanta, GA, or in Idaho you cannot fish from the back of a camel.

It’s because it’s happened. Stereotyping man and woman has been in the millennia in the making. Sit back, click, and enjoy without any guilt the truth that is the male brain and the female brain.

What are some things you’ve noticed are different between the male and female brain?

cakeLast night Mark, my son, asked me if I didn’t think I’d like to be 100, if only to say that I look old. Truthfully I have no expectations or goals; neither do I have any fears.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” Matthew 6:34 MSG

The day began like any other day until I pressed the switch on the computer. Then the shower began. First Gogglebirthday12-thp opened up with an array of cakes to spell their appellation, and as I passed the mouse over it, a personal greeting. I felt so special. Then my phone began chirping it’s signal for texts and posts. I’m blessed by family and friends who remember and celebrate with me.

It’s…

A Brand New Day (A Poem)

Poetry

It isn’t really a problem

This thing inside my head

Though others think it’s tragic

I look to it for creativity instead

I’ve learned how to write

About a person who needs love

When I already have friends

When push comes to shove

I’ve learned how to like

Some brand new things

Like cheeseburger pizzas

And BBQ flavored hot wings

But in truth

What it really has done

Has made out of me

A sensitive one

I know what is pain

I know what is loss

I know that things can happen

As quick as a coin toss

And through it all

Things end up okay

Because with each new dawn

I  have a brand new day

Being Positive to See the Positive

Last week in Sorting Your Life’s Junk I talked about how the way to being a positive and wonderful me, well a better me, was how I like to place events and thoughts into  Mental Folders. I called them:

  • Awesome
  • Needs Work
  • So Not Worth It

By doing this, I am able to sort through things quickly and move on. It’s a habit. A reflex, if you want to look at it that way. Just like driving a car. You see  something brake in front of you, you don’t have to think about it, you hit your brakes to stop something bad from happening. This is the same thing. By sorting those events or interactions into folders, those emotional/mental energy vampires/leeches/parasites don’t have a chance to latch on.

But you are probably thinking to yourself there are still things in the folders and you are likely to thumb through those files at some point. Ignoring the negative things doesn’t work. I like the adage or phrase “You got to own it.”

Accept it and Deal With it

Eventually whatever it is must be taken care of. Due to a concussion I’m not allowed to drive at the moment. I’ve driven 7 minutes in the past 18 months. And that was an emergency. Am I happy?

I guess you need to take a look at happy first. Everything that needs to get done in my life gets done. So in the grand scheme of things, not driving is not a major problem for me. I have filed it and dealt with it. I’m okay with it.

Does being okay with it mean I don’t miss the ability to get up and go whenever I want to? No, of course not. But I own the situation, I understand it, and I handle it. It does not get me down.

But what about REAL problems?

I knew you were thinking that. I’ll use my Fibromyalgia. It was discovered that the debilitating pain that I had been having for more than a decade was Fibromyalgia, which runs in my family. Walking is difficult. Sleeping is difficult. Sitting is difficult. Lying down is difficult. Maybe you see where this is headed. Combine that with migraines that are 24/7 and things are bad. By 24/7 I mean they never stop, just vary be intensity.

So what do I do about that? What do I do because I miss ball games and school events of my son? I deal with it. I have a son and one to be proud of. So I can’t do everything I would like, I am still proud of him and tell him that and show him every chance I get. And he knows it. Does it get me down at times? For a moment, then I shake it off.

It’s Not All Sunshine and Peanut Butter Cups

That’s one thing we have to remember, positive doesn’t happen 100% of the time. It’s just like anything else, it’s what you do with it. I had an old pastor friend say to me once that you can look at a woman and see she’s beautiful, just don’t turn around and watch her walk away, that is where the bad part comes in.

What’s in your folders is the same way. You see it, and you deal with it. Sure, it will hit you and you might have a moment of problem but then move on and don’t look back. It’s done. It’s over.

As time goes by and perhaps the problem comes up again, you will eventually have developed the habit. File, deal, and begone. The most positive people are the ones usually who have gone through the most junk.

The Positive Results of Being Positive

Being positive has its advantages. You begin to see the positive in many situations you never saw before. You see beauty where you only saw ugliness before. And you give words of encouragement when you at one time yelled or ignored.

I’m positive positivity will bring positive things to your life.

For the next in my Positivity Day series, it’s not really a series but just me focusing on being positive, you may want to read The Importance of Being You. It’s kind of neat to see how someone grows and where their thoughts carry them on a subject in order. Do they grow or not?

Join me and several other blogger friends as we start #BeWoW Bloggers. BeWoW means Be Wonderful on Wednesday. Be Positive, Encouraging, Inspiration, and Uplifiting. If you like something positive you read somewhere, or you write something yourself, Tweet it with the hashtag of #BeWoW on Wednesday and we see it and ReTweet it and visit it ourselves to be encouraged. If you don’t like to Tweet, then share the link to that article you have or you found in a comment here so people can find it that might not normally do so.

Much Respect and Much Love to You,

Ronovan
