Here’s what’s on Top of my Christmas Tree – what’s on Yours?

Below is What’s On Top of My Tree. It’s an angel created by the little Santa’s Helper in the larger photo farther down. It may not be fancy or shiny or be something that could be in a movie but he made it and that’s what’s been on the tree ever since. The tree isn’t coordinated. It’s a combination of everything from every year including handmade from school and church. It all goes on the tree. Including my hand blown glass candies I like so much.

And by posting this, I am helping Angela and Hugh raise up to £250 for charity. And all I am doing is making this post with the title being “Here’s what’s on Top of my Christmas Tree-what’s on Yours?”.

Atop-the-tree

tree

Now, why not show what is on top of your Christmas tree? Post on your blog and help Angela and Hugh at Hugh’s Views & News to contribute to charity.  To find out what to do, go to Angela and Hugh’s post.

Don’t have a Tree but want to help Angela and Hugh with their charity?

For those that do not have a Christmas tree, just write a post about the best thing that happened to you in 2014 and include a photograph if you can. Link it back to Hugh’s post and you’ll be helping Angela and Hugh achieve that £250 target before twelfth night.  To link back, you simply do what I did here and put the link to Hugh’s post in your post. Hugh has it all spelled out on his post if you need it. Or you can simply copy and past the parts of my post you need to into yours, they are are the BOLD typed sections. Also make sure to USE THE SAME TITLE of the post for your post. Here’s what’s on Top of my Christmas Tree-what’s on Yours?

Merry Christmas

Ronovan Ranting

Sometimes you just have to write. It’s 1 AM here in America and I am having a hard time sleeping. This old man goes through that at times. After this past weekend I have even more reasons to keep me from sleep. I might would put a link to that story but WordPress isn’t letting me add links or Media to posts right now. (Was able to now link to “How I Became Cat-Man”)

There are times I can’t sleep because my mind does not shut down. I literally have to just drop to sleep. Recently my mind has been on the whole Ferguson situation as I see the poor handling of it all by the media. Yes, I have a problem with the media at times. If you’ve read my blog long enough you’ve seen mention of how I see them as instigators of many a problem in societies across the world.

I’m not even sure if it’s the legit media that I am angry at right now, but perhaps the pretend media that happens to get picked up by online outlets like Yahoo to fill their spots and to get the most hits from sensationalist headlines.

Personally I understand the protests that are occurring, but not the looting, the burning of property and the like. You’re angry? Okay, who are you angry with? Is it the police, the legal system? Why are the protests not centered around those buildings? Why are they in places that end up keeping people from getting to work and subsequently getting them fired, or so I have heard. That could just be media hype.

You know one thing that makes me mad at the moment? The New York Times printing the street name where that police officer lives. He and his wife had to take off.

Know something else that bugs me? The St. Louis Rams. 5 players did the Hands Up sign in support of the protestors. So far the word is there will be no punishment because they were practicing their right to free speech.

Okay, so using their celebrity and the NFL and networks to continue to fuel a situation is okay. I got it. You fine a man who refuses to answer questions in an interview. I guess that wasn’t his right to free speech. You fine people for wearing Beats by Dr. Dre during press meetings and the like, I guess that’s not free speech.

I’m angry a little bit. Am I a racist person? No. Far from it. I think any of you that know me can attest to that as a fact. For one, you all know I only believe in one race, the human race. I think they should do away with race classifications on everything. Just make it a non issue. The government doesn’t want a racial problem? Then stop asking what race people are.

Will that make a big difference? Not to start with. But it’s a beginning. My son didn’t even know that people with dark skin were called Black until he learned it at school as he got a little older. He would say the girl with the darker skin. Or he would say the boy with the real white skin. To him it was just a skin tone.

Well I could go on and on and really say a lot about what I think about this whole situation but it’s late and I have a doctor’s appointment today. I guess I should sleep some. If I offended anyone . . . these are my opinions and I don’t think I actually said anything against anyone other than those doing damage to property or acting in ways that are foolish.  Protest all you like, just do it peacefully. It works.

You know, if you want my opinions on a subject, leave a comment or fill out the form at the bottom of the post. I’ll then do a post on it. Why not, right?

We can call it Ask Ronovan or Ronovan’s Rants or something like that. I would be more open and direct than I have been here. Any topic is okay with me. I think you all know that by now. I don’t shy away from the sensitive or touchy subjects. So leave a comment or send a message and I’ll write a topic. I may even and  a specific page if the response warrants it. And if you fill out the form on the About page just mention you want your name left out of the post and I’ll leave it out. Otherwise I’ll give you a shout out and link to your own blog if you have one.

Yeah, this was a random rambling thing that ended up with a new post idea. Who knew pain and posting would end up here?

Oh, and a blog tip: When you are labeling your images, go ahead and label them something like st-louis-rams.jpg.jpg Why? Well when SEO looks for it they like to see that jpg or png included in your images. But if you ever notice when you look at your images after loading the jpg or png is not there, so go ahead and add it to the actual name of the image then no extra work once you are in the posting process. Now they already see the jpg in your file name so you don’t HAVE to put it here. it’s up to you. I sometimes do and sometimes don’t.

The first reported case of deviled ham.

It’s early here. Especially early considering it is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. I have a blanket wrapped around my legs, the warmth makes the joints and bones feel decent. Who would have thought at my age I would need to be doing that? But then no one would have ever thought Mr. Human Heater would ever need a blanket.

So what am I thankful for today,

on this National Holiday?

I suppose I need to start with God,

and continue with that I at least still have a bod.

Family must be in the picture,

I hope that cranberry salad is of the right mixture.

Loved ones and smiling faces galore,

or the thoughts that I most adore.

Creativity and my imagination,

are two things needing appreciation.

Of course my friends here and there,

and those most loved everywhere.

You come upon a holiday and wonder what to write about. Do you write about the foods and traditions, which usually are the foods? The favorite deviled eggs. It’s a thanking God day and deviled eggs are one of Southern people’s favorites? Yes, my addled brain finds humor in that. It reminds me of a story my old pastor once told.

Jesus Restores Two Demon-Possessed Men

Matthew 8:28-34

28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”

30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. 31 The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”

32 He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. 33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.

What does that have to do with Thanksgiving? My old pastor and friend told the story from the Bible and was very serious as he looked out over the congregation in the church that Sunday and followed it up with  “And that is the first known record of Deviled Ham in history.

Yes, I am thankful for that friend who taught me to enjoy the Bible, find humor in life, and have an unshakeable faith.

A post today so random it had to be from me, Ronovan Writes. I write everything after all. But then when being thankful, is it really random if you are sharing what you are thankful for?

I don’t know.

I’m not one that’s known from shying away from topics that are difficult or sensitive.

Ferguson.

I was going to write about this, and I even did a little but then as I looked at the media reports and the hatred being put out there to fan the flames higher and higher, I decided I would rather talk about . . .

In all honesty, I don’t know what to talk about. If I were to say I support the outrage and the protests at the decision  of the jury, then I would be fanning the flames as well. If I said that based on the autopsy reports and the photos of the officers face following the event, that I could see how the jury came to their decision, then it would suddenly become a racial issue.

Even though I am not 100% White.

Some are looking at my photo and wondering what could I be. It doesn’t matter what I could be, it’s what you see that matters. “Love your neighbor as yourself.” In this situation, on both sides, if that phrase had been used and lived by none of this would be a discussion, and that starts with the stealing from the store earlier all the way through today and how protests are destroying property of people not involved.

“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Kirk Cameron’s Merry Christmas to Mothers.

I saw some headlines about Kirk Cameron recently and how he was talking about women should stay home. These comments were made after a less than 1 minute clip was released about Christmas joy and his new movie.

Well you know me, I have to check things out for myself.

I listened to the clip. I had other people, including women listen to it, without my input and asked what they thought. Most of them said it was pretty good, or cool. So I had to ask, was it sexist? They all looked at me funny. Then of course I had to explain.

You see what Kirk Cameron says in his clip is that for those women who are the ones who are responsible for the Joy in their homes to not let others take that Joy from them. You think about it. Anyone who has that holiday pressure on them, especially the Stay At Home Mom can take a beating during the holidays.

Kirk appeared on a news program and was asked about it and this was with four news women and none of them saw the clip as sexist. They had seen the headlines and then saw the clip and were like, say what?

So for those of you out there that haven’t seen the clip:

http://insider.foxnews.com/2014/11/14/kirk-cameron-criticism-christmas-message-moms-duggar-wedding

Go to that link. The first thing you see is the news clip. Scroll down and you see a clip with Kirk in red. Down at the bottom is him in a Santa outfit. I have no idea what that is. Kinda creepy if you ask me. But the first two are the ones you might want to check out if you care to.

Why did I decide to speak on this? I don’t like the media ways of doing things. Listen to things for yourself. Read the real things for yourself.  Take it from  a History Teacher. Thing are skewed by everyone.

You are Worthy.

Ah, Spring is in the air . . . in Australia.

But I’m not in Australia. I’m in coldland. Notice I did not say Iceland, which is green nor Greenland which is ice. Yeah, I know, we all know the reason for the names. And they said my ancestors weren’t very bright. Hey, two sets of my ancestors found America before Columbus went island hopping and missed the big land mass to the west of his island disease spreading sexscapade. I’m good with it.

Today I thought I would discuss a little bit about self worth. You know, for a man who is basically unemployed and virtually disabled, I’m a busy thinking man. No, I can’t work hours and hours straight like a lot of people, but I get some things done as I can with writing. And perhaps none of it is pay worthy, but you know what? I don’t care.

You see we have worth. Some people are told they are not worth anything. Abusive spouses say it to their wives or husbands and abusive parents say it to their children. I have had to be held back from saying things in stores or quickly moved along because of something I have said for peoples fear I may have been over heard when I objected to certain words used toward children.

You know, when you’re a big man, you get away with saying things. When you’re a big man with a concussion and no impulse control over what you say, you can say anything and get away with it and back it up. No, I am not a violent man. I’ve never had to be. Look at me. I can get this really menacing look on my face. But I am actually harmless, just don’t tell anyone.

Some of you reading this know what I am talking about today. You’ve experienced it. You’ve been on the end of the abusive ‘you’re not worth a pile of…’ lecture. That can even be from an employer.

Every life has worth. I could go into my Bible and say that if God thought we were so worth arriving here as Jesus to live out a life susceptible to pain and hardships just like us and then die for our sins, then I will believe I am worth something and agree with God, but I’m not going to go into my Bible thing right now and say all of that. No siree uh uh.

I had an early life where if I had not been able to be taken out of it, I would have possibly been led down a life of believing I was not worthy of a good life. Abuse of various kinds early on, divorced parents, poverty, go on and on. But you know I didn’t know any of that until I was an adult. No one told me as a child I was not worthy, and no one has told me as an adult either.

Trolls can come out now and say what they like, I have my earplugs in due to my sound sensitivity so I won’t hear you. And I will just delete your comments if you have an issue with it. Yeah, Ron O Van don’t play that.

I want everyone to read this next series of sentences placing the emphasis on the all capitalized word each time.

I am worthy of good things.

i AM worthy of good things.

i am WORTHY of good things.

i am worthy OF good things.

i am worthy of GOOD things.

i am worthy of good THINGS.

Whenever you are going through a rough time, repeat that. No, it’s not a secret healing thing but it will remind you of something. I don’t think I need to tell you what that is at this point.

I go through this myself several times each day as I look at my situation and what it has caused, the troubles, the hardships. I know I am not really the cause of these things, but you can’t help feeling it sometimes. So you just have to remind yourself at times.

Positive thinking is not some mantra, guru thing. It’s a real thing. You have a defeatist attitude then you have a defeatist life.  No matter what you have planned for your life, be positive about it.

You can even believe it’s Spring when it’s really Autumn because it actually is somewhere in the world. But still take a jacket with you when you go out, because it gets a bit chilly, even in Spring.

Much Respect

Proud to be?

Touchy subject time. Hot button issue. Politically Correct Stretch Alert.

Call it what you will but here I go . . .

Straight Talk with Ronovan

I’m not tuned into a lot of things. I don’t study the news. I don’t sit in front of a TV . . . ever. I scan headlines as my email is attempting to log in. Friends send me emails of things they want me to know about. I see the ads for things as my morning devotions load or a funny clip of a cat slowly progresses to the beginning of hilarious leap attempt fails. Slippery surfaces equals face plants felines! Just saying. (I really need to get a video of Spunky using the windshield of the car as a slide . . . intentionally doing so.)

On Twitter I noticed a trending thing. “Proud To Be Gay” Tim Cook . I don’t often click the trends, usually if it has to do with sports I might ‘IF’ it is of someone I have an interest in or if it is something I know a friend of mine might look at. Yes, I do like to attempt to keep up on things my friends like, sometimes, occasionally, okay–at times. So why did I click this one?

I had no idea who Tim Cook was.  I can hear it now, my blogging pal Hugh is like “Oh Ronovan, you had no idea who the Apple of my Apple Eye World was?” For those of you who don’t know who Hugh is, he is into everything Apple. He walks into a store and they already have the purchase ready and he didn’t even know he was planning to buy anything. His favorite celebrity child is Apple from that Coldplay guy and Iron Man’s girlfriend.

That’s pretty much it. I just wanted to see why it was particularly trend worthy why this person over another person announcing they are ‘Proud to be gay’.

Then I see it is the whole CEO of Apple and the millionaire thing. I see how it would be difficult to be open at that point in life what with all the consequences of losing a job and financial security. Yes, a touch of sarcasm there, but bear with me. I know there are friends and family to be concerned about and perhaps some public backlash against Apple to consider. I read why he did it and I admire him for it. He didn’t do it for himself but for others. I don’t think anyone should live in fear from others of what they are.

You are what you are, right? It’s a thing. Your thing. A nice gay person or a heterosexual A-Hole? Who would  you rather sit down to lunch with? I’ve had lunch with both, and lunch with the reverse. I’ll take the nice of whatever every time. And I will likely, and have, told off the pushy A-Hole of either kind when they go to far. And no, I did not use any profanity.

But back to where we began this aside, then I thought of the line workers in factories who are gay and afraid to ‘come out’ because if they do they might lose a livelihood they can’t afford to lose. Proud? Yes. Positioned to do anything about it? Not in their eyes.

I’ve worked with a lot of gay people over the years. I use the word gay because writing homosexual is just a very long word to type for me right now. To me, I like to think of gay as being what it was originally meant to be, happy.

Okay, another rabbit chased and now back on the main trail . . . again. I’ve decided to say what I am Proud of Being.

I am Proud to be a Man who loves God, Humans, The Female Species, Family, Friends, Children, Writing, and Great Foods. (The order varies at times. Sometimes Humans kind of fall down the list depending on the Human I am thinking of. And a great stir fry right about now, yes I am writing this during the morning, would be like better than all of the above, okay better than everything but that first one. Sorry Rhianna. Yeah, she may be weird and freaky at times, but you can’t deny she’s gorgeous. Wow, even I don’t know where that last one came from.)

OOO, I forgot, I love my Cats.

Now, I see no reason people can’t make public announcements of what they are Proud of.

Today, here in the comments, take a moment to say what you are Proud Of.

Because it’s Proud Friday here on RonovanWrites.

Bad Reaction from ‘Breaking Bad’ Boy.

Bad Reaction from Breaking Bad Boy.

Toys “R” Us was selling Breaking Bad action figures, including detachable bags of cash, and get this, bags of meth . . . in the kids section. I don’t think there is a grown up section in Toys “R” Us, but a Florida Mom decided to start a petition to have the figures removed.

The petition reads as follows:

“Toys R Us is well known around the world for their vast selection of toys for children of all ages,” she wrote. “However their decision to sell a Breaking Bad doll, complete with a detachable sack of cash and a bag of meth, alongside children’s toys is a dangerous deviation from their family friendly values.”

The Mom said;

“I thought the show was great,” she said. “It was riveting.”

Her purpose with the petition was to;

“Just to get those taken off the shelf and put them in an appropriate store.”

The petition worked.

Well the stars took to Twitter in response. Bryan Cranston, the star of the show actually responded in a somewhat humorous way;

Florida mom petitions against Toys ‘R Us over Breaking Bad action figures.’ I’m so mad, I’m burning my Florida Mom action figure in protest.

Kind of funny to me. I get the tongue in cheek thing he did there. He obviously, at least to my mind, could almost care less.

Then there was Aaron Paul’s reaction. I’m not going to quote his rants. The other star of the show whose toy got pulled from shelves was not as humorous or mature as Cranston, even referring to the Florida Mom as the ‘B’ word, if perhaps in a sideways manner.

He goes off on Toys “R” Us about violent video games and Barbie then ultimately ends with the ‘B’ word.

Paul, here’s what you don’t get or maybe more accurately don’t care about, games are mostly locked up or at least rated. These action figures were on shelves next to other harmless toys. Sure, it’s a toy, but you know what? Your characters glamorized drug dealing. Sure it didn’t really try to deliver that message but the stars of the show dealt in drugs. So guess what kids think?

Yeah I know it’s not that huge a thing maybe. You got a problem with it, why not petition Toys “R” Us to have a grown up collectors section to sell action figures such as yours where it is monitored to not allow kids in instead of going off on a mom who cares about morals. Yeah, I said morals. Glamorizing drug dealing is amoral. Period.

Toys “R” Us released this statement;

“The products you reference are carried in very limited quantities and the product packaging clearly notes that the items are intended for ages 15 and up. Items from this TV series are located in the adult action figure area of our stores.”

I guess it’s okay for the 15 year old to play with meth toys. And yes the packaging does say 15 and up. That does not mean it is guaranteed in the adult section. Not really getting that myself about meth okay for a 15 year old. Yeah, I know it’s toy meth. If you go to Amazon you will see the manufactured recommended age says 10 years and up. It doesn’t say anywhere the intended ages that are on the packaging nor is there an image of the packing. Wonder why no action there yet.

Anyone reading this might next go off on selling Iron Man or Tony Stark dolls because he drinks or Captain America because serums/drugs and scientific experiments turned him into the physical aspects of Captain America. Really what those characters show is what is inside that counted and work past there problems and move on. Tony Stark? Sorry, he’s not my favorite and never has been.

Captain America? Steve Rogers is what makes Captain America what he is. The guy who jumped on a grenade as a 98 lb weakling not knowing it was a dummy grenade because he wanted to save his platoon members.

Yeah, I know there is more to Breaking Bad than meth and all of that, but the action figures are not depicting that.

So Aaron Paul what if there were Celebrity Men Who Beat Their Wives action figures on the shelf next to Barbie, would you want a little girl seeing that?

The sad part of this is, some of you might not even know who Aaron Paul is and this is the only thing you know about him. But he’s tarnished himself a bit here. Want to know why?

If you, a celebrity, start calling out a Florida Mom on Twitter to, well I imagine millions of followers, guess what that is. Guess what it is when you start calling her the ‘B’ word to all those people, and then it gets in online entertainment sites followed by millions.  It’s called Bullying.

Aaron Paul and his wife were part of an anti-bullying drive that raised almost $2,ooo,ooo for the non-profit Kind Campaign.

But you know, it won’t matter. This will be swept away while people who do minor things in life are outcasts forever. Good job Aaron Paul. Maybe someone will use you as a poster boy for an anti-bullying campaign against celebrities using their high horse to bully us common people.

celebrity_power_bullying

How can I be allergic to healthy?

I write about some strange things at times.

You ever get sick and just wonder what the heck is going on? I mean, you eat right, you do everything the doctor tells you, and you even take your medications and vitamins and still . . . blah.

There is a food allergy in the house. Well a couple really or more now that I am thinking about it.  But imagine you are doing everything possible to be healthy and you start feeling not healthy. No, not shin splints. Although those are a bear. Ice down, then heat, ice down then heat. Yeah whatever. How do you stop shin splints? Don’t jog! Ha! No that’s not what this article is about.

MSG is a big, humongoso, major allergy in the house. I mean it is Epinephrine autoinjector major. For those of you not aware of what an Epinephrine autoinjector is, it’s one of those pens that you can give yourself an emergency shot with.

“Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It can occur within seconds or minutes of exposure to something you’re allergic to, such as a peanut or the venom from a bee sting.”-mayoclinic.org

Allergen people should keep them with them at all times. It’s really an auto injector that you stab yourself in the thigh with. Then you head to the hospital. There is another common name for it, but it’s an actual brand name so you an click the link to find out what all they are.

I have to make pretty much everything homemade, when I am allowed to cook. No, I am not a bad cook. Fact is I am a great cook, I will admit it freely. It’s just that this past year has taken a toll and I tend to burn my hands because they work right any longer or I forget and do something silly.

Soy is another allergen in the house. It’s actually related to MSG because of being a sort of naturally occurring thing of sorts or like an imitator or MSG, but not quite as bad.

Now think of this; you are low in Vitamin D and you take a popular Multivitamin Suppliment. Guess what the Vitamin D’s raw material contains. Yes, highly refined soy. And guess what that company take a vitamin One A Day says about that refined soy. It is exempt from allergen labeling.

Imagine if the Vitamin had been taken and the allergen was as bad as it is to MSG? What can an allergen cause?

You know being allergic to something can make you sick or die, so I won’t go into that, but here is something you may not know.

Did you know an allergen can cause weight gain?

You eat right, are reasonably active, and you just can’t lose the pounds. You also just don’t feel great. Check your diet. Soy is in everything. I’m not saying it’s bad for everyone. In fact it is good for some people, but if you are allergic to it check everything you eat, or even if you are don’t know you are allergic to it and want to test out things, try cutting out things containing soy.

One thing they evilly put soy in to help thicken it and harden it is . . .  dun dun dun . . . chocolate. Look at your breads. Soy, soy, soy! It’s EVERYWHERE!

Am I soy bashing? No. I am bashing an industry that doesn’t want to put all of the ingredients on the labels. Did you know that some nuts are sprayed with an MSG formula BEFORE being sent to the nut companies? That’s right. The company may not even be aware of that. But it should. Especially in this day.

A bit of an odd post today, but that’s where the head is at. Food allergies can turn your world upside down. You even have to be careful of bagged salads because guess what they spray that with as a preservative?

Your favorite fast food place has MSG and Soy free food you can order. Then someone cross contaminates and you are in the hospital. Or they change the oil they use for something and you end up sick.

Okay, RonovanRants is over.

Straight Talk with Ronovan

I’m white.

You know for some that would be enough about an article with a title about ‘privilege’. But oh no. This is me after all. Have you ever seen me end a post after only five words? Not ever. So that’s how they came up with never. Some Southern person in Southern Britain said n’ever instead of not ever and there you have it.

It’s kind of like monback here in the States. We aren’t talking about some one humped backed man, nah, we’re telling people to come on back as in when they are backing up a car, “How much farther?” “Monback.”

I just proved my whiteness. Yes. If you ever doubted before, that just did it.

Am I about to tip toe through the garden of political correctness? Is PC land the ruler of Blog World? Do I pass by Taco Bell without salivating?

Ah, heck no!

I started this ‘privilege’ run on Obscured Dreamer where I help out. But here I am going to go another route. That’s right. I am taking a detour, the off ramp. I’m going through funky town, down electric avenue. Hey, it’s Friday and I have the 80s on the brain. And yeah, it’s randomness time too. And I am totally unedited right now.

You know why there is even a discussion about ‘white privilege’ in the U.S. of A. these days? I got two reasons for you. If I have more and it still says two here, that means I just got creative along the way and I didn’t make it back to change the number.

Okay, the reasons:

  • The Generational Responsibility-You see this is how I see it.

And before I begin, remember I have some of my own unique ideas about things. Don’t judge my thoughts based on what you think I must be coming from. Word!

  • Okay back to  the GR thing-Before you think I mean that everyone in a generation is to be included in this . . . no. Stop, recognize and listen. You see what I am saying is that some people in a family teach the next generation there is either ‘privilege’ or perhaps ‘limitations’. Oh, yes. I went there. And guess what, people. It goes for every skin tone. “Oh, you can’t make it. Just don’t even try. You just follow up in the same way that I do. No one is going to give you a chance.” Say what? This is the U.S. of A., you got a chance if you make a chance. This country is so big that you can go anywhere and become anything. You are not tied down because of where you are from or who you are related to. oooooo I can hear it now. “Oh no he di’nt.” Oh yes I di’id. People in the U.S. of A. have a problem at times if you say they have a chance, especially if they have not ‘made it’ yet. In your face time-You ain’t makin’ it where you at, then move somewhere else. “Where am I going to get the money to go somewhere else?” Heck if I know. I just know people do it all the time. But you know one problem? People let themselves get so deep that they find it impossible to get out. Uh huh, I said it. We keep digging our hole and then we are so deep in it that we can’t climb out.
  • So another reason for the whole ‘white privilege’ discussion is dun dun dun politics-Yep, the politicos like to say the black problem or we need to work on black this or women’s that.Knock Knock, excuse me. Why don’t you just like freaking do stuff instead of talking about stuff and just generating even more divisions, huh? Seriously, dudes. Yeah, politics. You know the guys that live and die by divisions cause they can’t see their commonalities for their vocal differences.

“Ronovan’s on a rampage today. Watch out folks, please call 911 we think he hasn’t taken all of his medications or perhaps he’s taken too many.”

Nah, I’m good. As good as I get. Scary thought there, huh? But seriously, politicians like to make divisions because divide and concur. If they keep people apart then they keep people from realizing there are a lot more similarities than differences. If you are reading this and you have some type of skin tone issue, or a ‘we’re being held down’ issue, get the freak over it and help yourself and the next generation by getting your head straight.

“This educated white man is talking crazy”

This educated white man had to live with his grandmother in the projects behind the school in Mississippi. This educated white man used be taken to bars as a small child and put on pool tables to shoot pool as entertainment while his dreamer singer of a bio-father was on stage.

This educated white man was the first educated in his family . . . period. HELLO! Do you know why? Do you really want to know why? Because my mother and step father didn’t hold me to a generation thing. They wanted better for me, and you know what. Guess who paid for his own college education, at a major university? This educated white man. After busting his tail unloading trucks for several years and developing some of the physical problems that haunt him today.

Yeah, I’m straight talking today.  So if you have an issue with what I say, comment. I’m good with it. I like hearing other sides. It’s how we learn. But one thing to remember, these are my opinions.

Much Respect

I am tired.

I am tired.

And I am not just talking about my Chronic Fatigue as part of my Fibromyalgia. For that I just instantly shutdown the laptop and lie down.

No I am tired of other things.

I am tired of not knowing for certain if I say the right things at times.

I am tired of things I say maybe being interpreted the wrong way because that’s how everyone else means it.

I am tired of worrying about a 10 year old’s Home Work and Test grades because of whatever reasons. (My son has good grades, just to clarify.)

I am tired of not having time to write my books.

I am tired of worrying if my next post is going to come across as negative or as a downer.

I am tired of worrying if I am going to lose another friend for an unknown reason.

I am tired of worrying if I am going to lose a friend because of just not saying things the right way.

And yes . . .

I am tired of having migraines every second of my life now.

I am tired of the pain through my back, neck, arms and hands every time I type or even breathe.

I am tired of every time I walk past a TV all I see or hear is something negative and another death or another threat.

I am tired of politicians without . . . well I was going to say a bit of crudeness but instead I will say . . . without a back bone to actually say what needs to be said and stand up and do what needs to be done.

I am tired of the US of A trying to take care of the world when it can’t take care of itself.

I am tired of people judging people.

I am tired.

I am tired of my mind thinking of the dread.

A dread of what will come, what is ahead.

What is ahead is something I have no control.

A control that I lack and is slowly taking its toll.

What are you tired of?

What Social Media Really Can Cost a Person

I don’t normally just link to an article, but keeping in tradition with my Female Focused Friday, which I neglected last week because I didn’t want to put out garbage just to have it be something remotely female instead of quality female, read this article about Anne Hathaway and Hathahaters and what it cost her. I didn’t really have an opinion of her before, other than talented and a nice young lady, but after this I realized she’s just like everyone else as well.  A very short and to the point article.

anne_hathaway_wallpaper

The outlook of the future. Hmm . . . I think those words are almost the same.

As we are in a new month and a new season it’s time for a change. As you may have noticed, ever so slightly, my content is slowly changing. Moving forward I’ve decided that unless it is something I truly like you will not be seeing it. I always thought I was doing that and maybe I was. But my personal standards are higher now. With that being said, you might visit me and not see a brand new post for that day. I have plenty of posts for you to see, almost 700 now. To make it easier I might put the tag cloud back out so you might find things you could be interested in if you wish.

Sometimes people think they see a theme in my writing, my posts. There isn’t any. I like to write about love. I think that’s kind of cool really. I hear a song, just a few bars and the beat or something then clicks with me and I write a poem. Don’t worry, folks, Ronovan is okay. Until he’s dead, he’s doing fine. I have a firmer grasp on things than a lot of people in this world.

I hope you keep visiting even if the pickings become a little slimmer, but no more fluff. I consider some of what I have put out to be that. And as for my lists on Fridays, some of them have been pretty sad and the results have shown that, but then again, the ones I really felt passionate about got no results. Well, passionate and enjoying is what I am going to be about. So, hope you keep visiting and enjoy my offerings.

Overprotective or Just Aware of Reality

Should you worry about your children getting hurt? Do I?

I know it will happen. Heaven knows my son comes home with things all the time. One day he even came home after some older kid hit him in the face with a base from the baseball field. Kid just picked it up and slammed ‘B’ in the face.

The kid was fortunate. You see the kid is a little taller, but ‘B’ is one strong kid, and his first instinct is not to come out swinging . . . yet. His first thought is, “Why in the world did you do that, you idiot?” He has a reputation that is such the other kid was in serious trouble even though no teacher saw it. Yeah, it’s a school where a teacher has to witness things, but not this time. It was a bit obvious what had happened, and my son isn’t known to be a liar about things like this. He actually never complains.

Am I overprotective?

I’m the kind of dad that says to his 10 year old son, okay he was 9 at the time, “Okay, get on your bike and ride as fast as you can off the end of the porch.” I figure if he falls, he’ll be fine and he’ll see it is just a fall. Okay, so it isn’t but like a foot off the ground, but he thought it was like huge. He was always worried about falling on his bike because of the whole protective mother thing. Having been a boy and knowing that even running into a tree with my bike didn’t kill me, I am of the mind to let the boy go and fall and get back up and have fun. In fact they have more fun then because they can take a little more of a chance knowing that a fall is just a fall. This past summer was great for ‘B’. Bikes, chopping through vines to clear away Grandma’s hedges, climbing ladders. Oh, the ladder? I’ll get to that ladder, I mean later. (Anyone want to shuck some corn, cause I got lots more where that came from.)

So what’s my deal with ‘B’ and football?

I put out an article yesterday about my son not playing football and included information about concussions and a certain football team and the actions of the coach and trainers. Well, here is the problem I have with the way football is, it’s the coaching and the staff I have a problem with. I got hurt playing football, baseball, and basketball. I got hurt riding my skateboard. I got hurt picking a book up off my bed. Okay so that last one was in my 30s, I think, and I already had back problems, but you get where I am coming from here.

Hurts happen, but there are degrees of things that can be avoided if a coaching staff does their job properly. The quarterback should not have been allowed to continue the game. He was in a condition where he could have been hit again and permanently damaged. That’s the problem I have. A fully aware quarterback has a difficult enough time as it is avoiding 300 pound monsters, a badly shaken up, glassy eyed one could end up in the hospital.

Concussion

My college football team is UGA, The University of Georgia Bulldogs. Last year we had a great quarterback, broke all kinds of records. What did he do to end his time at UGA as a member of the team with no more than like 3 games left? He tore an ACL and didn’t leave the game. He kept playing one or two more plays. That wasn’t the coaching staff  because all he did was limp. The quarterback had this mindset that can come into play in some competitive sports. UGA isn’t one of those ‘push the player while they are hurt’ schools. I’ve taught the Head Coach’s kids. My son interacts with another coach’s kids. In other words I know the products of the people behind the scenes.

Am I overprotective?

I don’t mind my son getting hurt. It happens. I even let him climb a ladder to get his ball off the edge of the roof, of course with me below him and holding him. He thought that was the coolest thing ever. And yeah, I had to stop him from trying to climb on the roof. He’s crazy like that at times. And he has learned to hit the brakes on his bike and slide it around, he calls it drifting. Thank you The Fast and The Furious. Wait, he hasn’t seen that. Maybe it was Cars. Disney us evil. I am the one the encourages taking the calculated risks.

So, am I overprotective?

I am a ‘protect my child from a bad situation if I can help it’ dad. I have a great kid who has obviously been brought up nicely. Great grades, very courteous and respectful to his teachers, knows reality versus fake, and is just really very mature in many ways and also very much a kid in many ways. He can play for hours with various toys he has. Awesome kid, so I guess something is being done right. I am most proud of him at church during his Sunday School class or when they have children’s time during service he stays quiet, letting everyone else have a chance. Then either one of two things happens, if no one is giving a right answer the person will then look at ‘B’ and say, “Tell us, ‘B’.” And he gives the answer. Or if time is running short they will just go straight to him.

Are other sports safer?

I was going to mention other sports yesterday but instead I stuck with football to make the article short and to the point. A little league kid was hit in the chest with a fast ball pitch while up to bat. The pitch hit right over his heart and stopped it. He died. Pitches also have line drives hit back at them to the head. Basketball has ACL problems, broken noses, and all sorts of things going on. Golfing has back problems and shoulder problems. A man died in a short dirt track race not long ago when he was run over. He had been smoking marijuana prior to the race and then got out of his car to confront the other racer who was actually still driving around the track. Another driver’s father died several years ago in a crash. Divers hit there heads on the side of the pool or the bottom or even the platforms or boards.

I could go on and on but I think you see that I know about other sports.

One of my favorites sports I played in college was racquet ball. I don’t know if you’ve ever played the game but it is not an easy sport. There are these things called walls that tend to want to stop a body running stupidly after a bouncing rubber ball.

Oh and I have to tell you this one, it’s funny, in a way, but maybe it explains a few things about me. I guess I was in High ron_ballpark - CopySchool when this happened or just after. I went golfing with my Dad. He was showing me aTiger Woods few things and said, “Stand right there and watch what I do.” He actually put me in a spot to watch from. Either his arms were longer or his club was longer than he thought. His follow through ended up with the flat part of the club, fortunately it was a driver, square in the center of my forehead. We could not have rehearsed it better. I simply gave it no thought, although he freaked out big time. I think mostly because he was afraid I was gonna tell my Momma on him. (Tiger can’t believe my Dad did that to me.)

My son starts basketball in a few weeks, and then baseball in the spring.

So my question to you is this:

Am I overprotective or just taking into consideration what things are like for real?

My son and Football. Will it happen?

The question comes up here in the United States about my son his school of “Is he gonna play football?” This is the American type of football.

If you have time, watch the video and then continue onward. If not you can skip the video, but to get a good idea of where I am going with this you will want to see it. You don’t even need the sound.

My son is 10 and almost 5 feet tall, broad shoulders, athletic. To be downright personal, his shoulders were so broad he was delivered by C-section. His school is in the state playoffs, think championship tournament, each year, even making it to the actual championship game one of those times and the football program is not even 10 years old.

The school has the children of elite athletes including former professional quarterbacks, think the guy who passes/throws the ball down the field to his teammates. One of the coaches helping out was the winning quarterback in a Super Bowl. In other words, football is huge for the school.

He’s not playing football, or at least that is the intent. Why? If you watched the clip above you know why. Concussions are common in football. More common than anyone ever knew, because before they were kept quiet or the players didn’t say anything.  A key player out of a game could actually cost a coach his job.

If you watched the video then you know it was obvious the quarterback should have been out of the game. Who should have known? Anyone watching.  Some might say the coach didn’t talk to him on the sidelines, that a trainer or someone did. The trainers are actually the ones that can say yes or no to a player playing. Notice the quarterback never took his helmet off. He wasn’t thoroughly checked out. And then, in he goes.

Look at the kid’s eyes.

Michigan QB

Some people outside of the United States don’t think football is all that much. That we wear these protective pads. Okay. Imagine your soccer players being hit straight on by a 300 pound 6’5″ man running almost at Olympic level speeds. Hitting the player in the head as they are moving forward passing the ball, defenseless.

One of my high school friends learned how to drive a van last year. I’m 44 and so is he. It took that long for him to get enough control and get the right van to drive. You see his neck broke during a game in high school. A game that should have been stopped because we were losing so badly there was no way to win. A game that even the opposing team’s coach wanted to stop, but our coach said no.

My friend uses one of those breathing things to operate his chair with at times, and he has just enough control with his hands to be able to drive a specially modified van.

I always wanted my son to play football. But I would rather have my son.

The coach of the team in the video said basically that he had no idea and that if the kid wanted to come out he would have. Bull! The quarterback position is a competitive spot. No quarterback wants to come out, no matter what. And then you have the kid obviously banged up.

I love college football. It’s really the only football I even keep up with, the only sport for that matter. I used to be a huge tennis fan, but that was long ago. But I am slowly losing interest as time passes and the ethics of the coaches are revealed. The coach said he didn’t know. Yes the boy had a hurt leg from earlier, but what college guy is going to hang on to another player in front of thousands of people and hold his hand? The kid got nailed!

Will my son play football?

No.

My rant is over.

A walk through time. It’s a Friday Flashback.

Is there a better decade than the 80s?  That’s not really a question. It’s one of those rhetorical things. You know, like asking which is better, Coke or Pepsi. We all know it’s Coke. Yes, I stand before you . . . I sit before you a child of . . . a teen of the 80s. (Hey, I was fetus in 69.)

It’s time for a walk down memory lane. I made a funny there. tee hee hee. Okay now on with the show and just a bit of nostalgia time. I literally have no idea where this is headed so let’s see what I come up with.

MTVThat’s right everyone MTV. You think you guys are so cool with all your music and things. Well my generation made it happen. That’s right. I wanted my MTV first. Yeah, Music Television. Not sure what it is now. Okay enough of that gif, I think I might get sick. Before MTV there was Friday Night Videos and when I say night I mean NIGHT. It was so night it was actually Saturday when they came on. Before MTV I had no idea what She Bop meant. Thank you Cyndi Lauper. I know, some of you just asked “Who’s Cyndi Lauper?”

madonna1

This is not Cyndi Lauper.

And if you mention MTV you have to mention Madonna. Oh yeah, back when she actually looked good for real. Miley Cyrus and all you other wannabes, this is the originator of controversy and she did it for real, not for being an adolescent trash bag. Yeah, I said it. Mean much? Yeah, I can be. Just disappointed in what could have been an awesome talent. I wonder if Madonna knows what She Bop means.

aha

The most awesome video ever Aha’s Take On Me. I still geek out whenever I come across this on the internet. If for some reason you haven’t seen it, you need to look it up. This is consistently voted one of the top music videos of all time. From my understanding the guy didn’t even speak English, he just learned to sing the song in English. Well if that’s so, then he did a rockin’ job.

maxheadroom

Max Headroom, stop laughing. How many almost computer animated characters had their own show in the 80s? Yeah, that’s him. A show ahead of its time and that’s probably why it got away with some of the cheesy looks, but it was cool.

backtothefutureamp

That is some serious major ampage there dude.

backtothefuturemarty

Oh, it’s Marty. Back to the Future. What happened?

backtothefuture

Oops, my bad, I forgot to tell it was broken, Marty.

Now it’s time for a commercial break.

ernest

What, you don’t know who that guy is, was? Something like that. Wow, fer rizzle my frizzles? Dude, my high school football coach had a cardboard mask of this guy with a rubber band on it. And yes, the coach taught History. Imagine that in the South, right? Well in class he ducked down and came up wearing it. We all just sat there like nothing happened. Practice wasn’t great that day.

WeirdScience

Oh look, it’s Iron Teen, I mean Weird Science guy. That’s right, meet Iron Man in his first movie role in the movie Weird Science. Ugly Guy wasn’t he.

johnnydeppfirstrole

Oh and look, Captain Jack Sparrow in his first role in the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie. It’s a brief part, just sayin’. If you’re squeamish, don’t watch a clip of it. Blood everywhere. Really hurl worthy, I tell you.

walkman

I wonder if he lost his iPod during that scene. Oh, this isn’t an iPod? Walkman? Oh yeah, I think mine is still somewhere at my parents house. I tell you they really bit the big one if you tried to listen to it and cut grass at the same time. Wonder if it’s next to my 8 Track of Elvis singing Blue Hawaii?

neverendingstory

Ah a kinder gentler moment with the Never Ending Story. Big fluffy dog dragon thingy and hmm I wonder where the rock thingy that road the rock bicycle is these days.

ghostbusterszapped

Okay guys, the dog dragon thingy didn’t do anything to you and he wasn’t a ghost. Yep. Ghostbusters. Now who you gonna call? I wonder if it is politically correct to call them ghosts these days or is there another name they prefer. Do you think they have some sort of advocacy group or lobby group in Washington? Do you think they are going to sue Bill Murray?

valkilmerrealgenius

Dude, the Ghostbusters put Ice Man in the upside down position. That took Real Genius. Yeah, that’s the name of the movie. This was his second movie role after Top Secret! No I’m not excited, there was an exclamation on the end of the title. Anyone remember that movie? I looked it up. I don’t think it was my amnesia making it hard to remember.

karatekid

There we go, we need some peace and quiet, a master to teach us the ways of the force. Wait, the ways of the whooping cough. No the crane, yes the crane. Do you guys remember who this is and what movie it is? And better still, what show was he in before this that made him famous?

standbyme

Stand By Me. That’s River Phoenix on our right. Would be one of the big guys today but he was one of the first of a generation to die of drugs. Things started snowballing after that it seemed.

indianajones

And we had other classic movies and series start in the 80s.

ferrisbuellersings

And look at that. Bueller . . . Bueller . . . Bueller.

outsiderssodapop

Yep, Sodapop Curtis. Or you might know him as Rob Lowe. What, you didn’t know that was his name? Yeah, he was a Greaser too. He felt like an Outsider in his younger days. Yep, this was his big screen debut.

prettyinpinkducky

Isn’t that just Duckie?  Yep, before Two and a Half Men Jon Cryer was after Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink. This may have been his third movie appearance but this is the one that made him and he stole the movie from everyone. Annie Potts was in it as well, yes the woman from Designing Women. Oh hush, I know you know that show.

And one of the greatest movies of the 80s if not the best movie ever representing the various groups of high school in an honest way. The Breakfast Club.

My Loves: A Man’s Testimony of Heart

What kind of love do men feel? I considered searching for opinions and comparing them to what I come up with, but then I decided that since I am writing this from a man’s perspective, specifically mine, that I would just go with my own thoughts. After all, I’ve been told in the past there isn’t a doubt about my being a man. I’ve always taken that as a compliment.

shattered_heart.jpg

What love does a man feel? I could go into the various loves of sports and foods but I’m not doing that today. Instead I wanted to discuss the real things that pull, pound, and pulverize the heart. The kinds of love that when they don’t go right, leave you feeling like you have the worst flu any man can ever have.

This is about loves for a woman. This is about the loves that men don’t talk about. This about the loves men deny that have to their friends. But if you are a man and you say you’ve never had one of these loves, then . . . count yourself blessed or else have an exam done because you are in denial.

Men get those loves. Is there a level order of love? Men think much of order in things like this. I’m not sure why and I don’t really care to delve into the why. At this moment my heart is on loves. I often wonder when it isn’t.

I see no reason to not just say I as I write this. Why not say man or men? I’m speaking from what I know. I am sure other men feel or have felt what I might talk about, but this is me. As I begin this I have no plan. What you read will be whatever comes out of me as I go. Think of this as an open heart letter unedited.

My Loves: A Man’s Testimony of Heart

by: Ronovan

Love from afar. I know her but she’s out of reach. The thought of her for a moment makes the world lighter than air but then the aching heart begins. My mind quickly tells me the truth. I fight it. I don’t want to know the truth, I just want those moments of happiness, even if they are illusions and delusions. They only harm me. Why can I not enjoy them for a moment?

#IfIWokeUpWithAmnesia a contest?

There is a contest out, announced by Ryan Seacrest #IfIWokeUpWithAmnesia. You know, I am sure there is more to it than I know. Maybe I’ve just forgotten.

cropped-cropped-cropped-cropped-cropped-ronovan-moving-forward112.jpg

What I do know is that it is part of a contest to meet some boy band group called 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS). This is the first I’ve heard of the group that I know of.

You know as a writer I get writing prompts to get your creative juices flowing, but a contest like this somewhat bothers me. There are a lot of people out there that might just wake up not remembering one morning. Alzheimer’s patients could be one, accident victims another. No, I’m not being over sensitive about this. I know it’s a childish, immature, insensitive idea for a contest to tweet a response to this. You also have to follow on of Ryan Seacrest’s  Twitter accounts to enter.

Could you imagine a person suffering from amnesia logs into Twitter to stay connected to friends in the attempt to hang on to those people the best they could and see that hashtag trending, they go to it thinking maybe there was some awareness for what they suffer from, and they find it is a boy band contest by a face that says, and they next contest is?

Just imagine that person woke up not knowing their parents, their spouse, their name, how to write, how to speak. Imagine that person a year later who only remembers the people through what they have told and forgets those things as well. Names and memories come in a burst and disappear the next day, frustrating the person and others. Imagine.

I bet they would feel sick at their stomach and want to lash out in anger. Or perhaps they would want to tweet about their hurt at it. But then maybe, just maybe, they would log into their blog that they use to keep track of their lives because they suffer from both long term and short term memory loss and decide write about it so they would be reminded of the insensitivity of Ryan Seacrest, who they had thought of as a decent guy, who actually went to the same University as they did and possibly at the same time.

Yes, they know it’s a contest with no harm intended but it still hurts. So yeah, I’m talking about myself. I don’t remember my life growing up except what I have written down over the years as a writer. I don’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday. If I sleep for too long I forget what happened the hours before I fell asleep. I have a list of names of people in Blog World I don’t want to forget and I annoy some of them with Tweet DMs and emails and FB messages to keep in contact with them. They don’t know I do it to have that personal connection so I have a better chance of not forgetting them.

Well my rant is done. If you are a fan of 5SOS, it’s not their idea for this particular contest I am sure, so don’t blame them. It might not even by Ryan Seacrest’s idea, but he did approve it.

Much Respect & Hope to remember you tomorrow, or later today if I take a nap
