RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Prompt Challenge #1 Rewind

RW Weekly Haiku Challenge

REWIND #1

The prompt words for Challenge #1 were Silent and Loud.

Good results for the first week of the prompt challenge. I am very happy with the results. People are trying something new and stretching their creativity a bit, and they are having fun doing it.

Click the site links to go to each Haiku.

Cyril of well Cyril Bussiere gave us a very nice one that I read one way but was meant another, and isn’t that what poetry does? It gives the person reading a meaning and reveals a little about the self in how you interpret what you read.

Hilary of The Joy of Writing came up with a great use of the prompt this week. I greatly enjoyed it. She even was able to do it and keep with the theme of her blog in a second article. Hilary is becoming a Joy to read as well as a Joy as a Friend. She has been a great find in this blogging world.

Eloise of Thoughts by Mello-Elo brought a surprising Haiku from one so . . . Mellow?

Florence T of Rambling On has found a new talent . . . Haiku. Her result was great and she used a word I was surprised to see.

Thank you to each person that participated. I greatly enjoyed seeing the results. Reading them makes me want to push myself a little more in my own Haiku.

RonovanWrites Weekly Wordless Haiku #1Rewind

I have to say that the First Weekly Wordless Haiku Challenge went fairly well. Those that participated did great jobs. They had a lot more fun with it and actually I believe did a better job than I did with mine. I’ll get better.

I can’t see where I am waiting

The light has gone out of my eyes

The dam breaks into the cavernous hollow

That was once my mind filled with memories of you

Now I don’t know what I am here for

I can’t seem to discover my path back through

The rifts of the time I was in before

Keep me in your thoughts and your heart

Torch marks engrave the image of you

Torn deep into the crevices of my soul

I look for a way to hang onto the pain

The pain of loving you

Thunder pounds into the echoes of madness

Lightning strikes behind my dimmed eyes

Even opened

They still see lightning strike images of you

Cracks formed in the insanity havens

Believed to be the sanctuary holding me bound

But now

Now I can no longer heart beat be found

My Response to the 10 Things Florence T. Wants.

Florence T. paid me a great compliment by doing her own “10 Things” on Friday. After having some fun answering my ‘10 Things I Just Need to Know About . . . Women‘ she came up with her own ‘10 Things I want to know…about men‘.

Here are my answers to those questions. If you want to know the questions then please visit Florence T and her article.

#10

I love to cook so, let me see. Um . . . let’s see men like all balls of all colors. They even like smooth ones or fuzzy ones. If they see them they must have them. They are like a laser pointer to a cat.

FGLaserpointer.gifI said a CAT!

#9

We like to watch other men with balls but we think we know about how to use them better than those who get paid for it.

Men just naturally want it long I guess. They like the way it feels and lays there enticingly.

FGhairwhipfail

(I just had to use this one. It might not be about the question but it is just so . . .  ow.)

#7

I don’t mind a woman in control. She knows, so tell me what to do and where to go otherwise she gets frustrated and then there is no fun for anyone. But I know some men just don’t get it . . . even when told.

Hmm . . . one word . . .sex.

 FGaDogslap

(Yeah, I changed the name of this one to “dog” slap in my files.)

We like it to feel good inside not just look good.

Maybe it has to do with answers to #1 and #2.

#3

It is great four letter word. It’s one of my favorites too. And I am glad you think it’s sexy. I guess some men just think it’s just not a very masculine thing and other men would use it as a sign of weakness when applied.

Whining_Man.jpb

#2

I think you are right about this especially the anger and lust being the man ones. But answer #3 relates to this. If we used it any other way then we would be called that four letter word.

Fear_Lust

#1

Yes. I think we would love to. Just putting it all out there for everyone to see would make everyone better off and make it a healthier world.

There you have it. Now go check out ‘10 things I want to know . . .about men‘ from Florence T.

10 Things I Just Need to Know–About Women

Okay, so I’ve done a few articles and lists about men and our issues. Well today I’m going after the women. That’s right Female Focus Friday is doing just that Focusing on the Females.

Ladies here it is . . .

10 Things I Just Need to Know

(Why do I start sounding like J Lo’s ex every time I say ‘I need to know”? You do know which of her ex’s I mean, right? Just sayin’. And oh yes, I did go there.)

#10

Ladies why do you look better cross dressing than we do? You put on our dress shirts and . . . okay, I’m not really asking. I just wanted to, you know, okay, never mind, time to move on. (Stop looking at me like that, yes, the ears are burning red now.)

 #9

Ladies, why do you like dope so much? Yes, I said it. Dopamine is the chemical that chocolate releases in the brain. So what’s up with that, ladies?Woman_eating_chocolate

 #8

Why can’t you drink with your eyes open? Every time you take that first drink from a cup of coffee or tea you close your eyes. Is it concern over the contact lenses melting from the steam, or one might pop out and start floating?

Mick_Jagger.jpg

David_Bowie_Ziggy_Stardust.jpg

Hmm?

Okay, Steven Tyler in the 70’s, okay, maybe the 80’s, sure. You hit the 90’s it’s getting close, then the 2000’s, umm. What’s up with the continued fascination with Steven Tyler? Mick Jagger and David Bowie had a love child? That whole Dancing in the Sheets song from Live Aid still has me confused. Wait, that was the song from Footloose . . . hmm . . .

Maybe?

From my understanding lipstick can pull out the pigment in your lips meaning they fade the color, but you use lipstick to give your lips color . . . and then they have the tattoo makeup procedures? I think I see a cycle here. Do any of you?

Skeleton_Kneeling_Begging.jpg

Why do you make men act so stooopid? I mean we fall in love, we get rid of all our friends, forget our mother’s birthdays to go to your friend’s baby shower, and then two weeks after we start dating, you say it’s over? Whipped boy say whut?

 #4

Miley Cyrus? Can you explain her to me, please?

 Miley_Cyrus_Bent_Over_White_Pants.jpg

#3

I get it, high heels make your calves and butt look great, but why in the world put yourself through that? Why is there a big man at my door screaming through the window at me right now?

David Beckham, Hugh Jackman, or Vin Diesel? I gotta know. (Comment below.)

Unskinny Fat-Self Image Insanity

Unskinny Fat. Anorexic. Muscles Me Not Got. I’m not sure what you want to call it, but self image of women, especially the young these days is wearing thin on me. Is that at pun? Not exactly. It’s a fact. I’m ticked at what society has done to generations of females.

A society sitting on its own big derrière tries to dictate to females what they should look like or what the perfect body image is like getting celibacy or relationship tips from a Kardashian. It’s just not worth it.

 ~~~
Unskinny Fat-Self Image Insanity
~~~

Just a quick note: There are no images in this article. Why? Because I don’t promote an ideal image or even humilite someone that is an example of Unskinny Fat or Unfit Skinny. Some people can’t help what they are, some can. I’m not here to judge. Be happy with it. Now on with the article.

First of all, do you know what Unskinny Fat means? Perhaps Unfit Skinny is a better way of putting it? Now you probably are getting on the track of my crazy train mind. You see there are people out there who lose weight to be skinny, duh, right? But how do they do it?

One way is to stop eating or eat next to nothing. Lose weight? Yes. What are they losing? Muscle. So what is left? Fat. So yeah, you’re going to fit into those clothes you want to but you aren’t going to look fit. You’ll me squishy and unhealthy and there is a good chance you will die if you aren’t careful.

Then you have the Unfit Skinny that lose everything and are just bone, anorexic. I’m not going to name any celebrity names because I’m just not like that. But just pay attention and you can see them.

The Unskinny Fat and the Unfit Skinny just don’t look healthy. There are slim/skinny women that look healthy.

Men and women in the fashion magazine world need to put the airbrushes away and get real. The number one sex symbol is still Marilyn Monroe. Get a hint people. Men enjoy women of every size and shape. I want a woman that is healthy and happy not miserable in her own skin.

Do you not what really causes problems in those people that are heavier than those magazine people? Stress. It’s a killer. Why is there stress? Because they are concerned about their weight. There are people in this world that are ‘overweight’ but healthy. I’m not saying go out and be overweight and be happy, I’m saying go out and be healthy not insanely into body image.

Here are some statistics from the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders:

  1. 95% of all dieters will regain their lost weight within 5 years
  2. The body type portrayed in advertising as the ideal is possessed naturally by only 5% of American females
  3. 69% of girls in 5th-12th grade reported that magazine pictures influenced their idea of a perfect body shape.
  4. 81% of 10 year olds are afraid of being fat
  5. 20% of people suffering from anorexia will prematurely die from complications related to their eating disorder, including suicide and heart problems.

Ladies, let me tell you something. I love you alive. That’s the way I want you. I want you healthy and with strength. Let’s be honest here, I don’t want a weak woman, in any sense of the word. If you have friends that think you need to look a certain way, they’re not your friends.

Oh, you’ve heard that before? Do you think maybe that’s because it’s the truth? Read the statistics up there. Go down the path that leads to death or down the path that leads to a healthy, happy and beautiful you. It’s up to you.

This is not a scare article. This is a I love you article. “But, Ronovan, you don’t know me.” Hey, are you human? Do you have feelings? Then I know you. If you were in front of me with a car coming would I let you die? No. Why, because I love you. I see this train wreck waiting to happen with people with this insane body image thing. I have to speak or it’s just like watching the car hit you.

But you know what? Driving a road with curves is a whole lot more exciting to me than just traveling down a straightaway.

Cross Culture Interview with: Nishi Pal

What happens when a woman from one culture finds herself set down in the middle of another, literally half a world away? Why she ends up doing a Cross Culture Interview with me of course. From The Showcase . . .

Meet Nishi Pal

Nishi Head Shot

Ron Cover ShotRW: First of all for those who haven’t met you yet, tell us a little about where you grew up and where you happen to find yourself living today?

NishiNISHI: My family is from India that is where I was raised and where I went to school and college. I currently live in Salt lake City, Utah, USA

Ron Cover ShotRW: How did you come to move to the US? Was it a difficult decision to move half a world away from your home?

NishiNISHI: It was definitely not an easy decision, however not the most difficult. In spite of the hours I was putting in I was enjoying my work at the bank where I worked. But situations were changing as I had become a first time mum to a beautiful baby girl. She needed me but since I had my family to support me in taking care of her I continued to keep my job. That’s when my husband got the opportunity from work to come to the US on a project and so you could say it was a decision in the best interests of my family.

Ron Cover ShotRW: Nishi, what have you found to be the biggest difference between India and Salt Lake City where you live now?

NishiNISHI: There are so many differences from where I come from – India and here demographics, the people, the culture. India is the land of the ancient Indus Valley civilization and home to 1.2 billion people making it the second largest country in the world. With 29 states and 7 union territories divided into four regions – North, Taj_MahalSouth, East and West we have people speaking over 30 languages and numerous other dialects with Hindi and English considered the language for official communication. India home of the Taj Mahal, is considered a mega diverse country with its widespread and unique bio diversity which makes it a hot tourist destination.

Salt Lake City is a very lovely place very rich in natural beauty. What I  would note as the biggest difference between India and the US would be in the public infrastructure and the medical care system here. India in spite of being such a large country lags behind when it comes to roads. The roads in the US are much wider and public infrastructure is very well managed however, medical care is so much cheaper in India and hassle free.

Ron Cover ShotRW: What do you think of the political atmosphere in the US and how does it compare to that of India?

NishiNISHI: This is not a question that I can answer in a couple of sentences but I’ll start off with the similarities; both the US and India are democracies and in both countries citizens enjoy a lot of freedoms. However, when you have a two party system here . . . in India we have several political parties and small regional parties so the diversity of the nation shows even in its politics.

Ron Cover ShotRW: What was your life like back home as far as how people in the US would find different or unusual than an American would be accustomed to?

NishiNISHI: In India life for me revolved mostly around work and home. When in America people are more accustomed to an 8 hour work schedule, in India we tend to extend the hours to 10 maybe even 12..Its not the rule but it happens. Also in India we have a very close knit family structure and when in America you move out of your parents homes when you are 18, in India  we continue to stay until we get married and even then many people live close by their parents or even take care of them in their old age so you don’t exactly miss out on family time.

But in general Americans would find India crowded and chaotic.

Ron Cover ShotRW: What would you say was the biggest challenge when you first moved to the US?

NishiNISHI: Getting to places on my own used to be a challenge initially. Here I’ve noticed you have the system where places where you shop are far from residential areas so without a driver’s license and a car it was tough to get to places on your own. That was a challenge.

Ron Cover ShotRW: What do you think your American friends find the most surprising about you?

NishiNISHI: American friends find the fact that I had an arranged marriage very surprising. Here I guess the girl and the boy fall in love and then let the parents know but in India majority of the marriages are arranged and fixed by the families of the bride and the groom.Which is not as bad a situation as it seems.. 🙂

Ron Cover ShotRW: We’ve talked about the differences and challenges, what if any are some surprising similarities between your home and the US?

NishiNISHI: The retail experience is similar I think..A by product of globalization no doubt.

Ron Cover ShotRW: What do you miss about home?

NishiNISHI: My Family and friends.

Ron Cover ShotRW: Of course, are there special things such as favorite foods from home you have a difficult time finding in the US?

NishiNISHI: I’ve found there are Indian stores here that sell Indian food and they seem to have everything – the spices, the mixes – everything we need. So not much difficulty there.

Ron Cover ShotRW: Now I want to ask a few questions about your Blogging. Starting a blog can be an impulse but working a blog is more than that. What brought you to create your blog and what keeps you engaging in it?

NishiNISHI: Yes, Ron, you are right, you could say it starts off on an impulse. Writing I feel is for me a highly meditative and therapeutic experience. I was looking at blogging as a creative outlet, a space where I could just write and express myself. With time I realised to make your blogging experience worth the while, to maintain the momentum, was not always so easy you have those phases…where you feel your mind is like fallow uncultivated land land and you look for seeds of inspiration to feel alive again. Not all of us are lucky like you Ron.. 😉

What keeps me engaged would be a sense of commitment to continue and develop what I started…also the positive vibes and the energy that I receive from the comments and feed back of my fellow bloggers and the wisdom and knowledge they share through their blogs.

Ron Cover ShotRW: You don’t often write stories but more often slice of life articles and poems, is there a hidden author inside waiting to escape? If so, what would you like to write?

NishiNISHI: I’m still experimenting and learning, Ron. Serious writing is something I would consider pursuing down the line. Maybe a historical novel . . . I’m not sure. It’s too early to say still.

(Note: I knew Nishi was a writer, I was already following her blog, but then she wrote a piece that jumped out and showed me what she could really do. It was called ‘My Best Friend’.)

Ron Cover ShotRW: What about blogging has been the most surprising to you?

NishiNISHI: What most surprised me is the strong network of bloggers or as I would like to consider them the wonderful new friends I have made here at WordPress. Their varied talents and the rich experiences just take my breath away every time. My friends in blogging have opened my eyes to a lot of new things. Also, I’ve learnt a lot about myself in the process.

Ron Cover ShotRW: Where would you like to see your blog head as far as content and what it represents?

NishiNISHI: I would like to see it grow creatively and with respect to the quality of the work I put out. I would like for it to represent me as the best possible version of me as only then will others benefit from reading what I write and what I have to offer.

Ron Cover ShotRW: Now for a few fun things, what is your favorite scent or smell or aroma and why?

NishiNISHI: I love roses. I’ve always loved the scent of roses also since Roses are associated to my birth month June. But, since we are doing a cross cultural piece one smell that I love and reminds me of my home in India is the smell of jasmines. My mother used to wear a perfume that had the smell of jasmine also we had a couple of jasmine bushes behind our home. It’s the most refreshing smell when you wake up in the morning and step into the backyard . . . the dewy morning air mixed with the scent of fresh jasmine flowers. Divine!

Ron Cover ShotRW: What’s your favorite thing about where you live now?Salt Lake City Mountains

NishiNISHI: I love Salt lake City simply love the place!  My most favorite thing would be the mountains surrounding the place that we live. In the mornings stepping out into the balcony and just looking at them relaxes me.

Ron Cover ShotRW: What is your favorite word and why?

NishiNISHI: I don’t use this word often and I know it sounds funny but I like the word ‘Splendid!’ and how it sounds.. Splendid isn’t it?

Ron Cover ShotRW: Splendid indeed.

I want to thank Nishi for joining us today and agreeing to this interview. I enjoy following her blog The Showcase and I also follow her Tweets. I suggest you all visit her blog and get your enjoy on.

Cultures are varied but we find they are so much alike in many ways. Our internet world has made it easier to learn about each other. We just need to take advantage of it and maybe we can make this world better and more united. Perhaps we may even rid ourselves of the misconceptions we are fed.

Until the next Cross Culture Feature,

Much Respect

Female Focus Friday: Anne Roiphe Quote

Anne Roiphe Quote

RonovanWrites Female Focused Fridays: Sweet Dreams

I started my Female Focused Fridays last week. Now I’m delving in a little deeper. I know the Eurythmics was  duo but take away Annie Lennox and you have a . . . great producer and song writer, David A. Stewart.

If you don’t know Annie Lennox, you need to look her up. She’s on Rolling Stones’ Top 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. That’s right. You’ve heard her and may not even know it, but you probably do.

Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

It’s a song, but it’s also the magic of the writing and collaboration of Lennox and Stewart. I would dare say it was the voice and showmanship of Lennox that put the act over but in the beginning the two needed each other and perhaps neither would have made it without the other.

The song: What are Sweet Dreams made of? Dreams of of happiness and fulfillment. They are made of where we are and what we are going to do with where we are. Are we going to stay where we are or are we going to do something about it to get to where we want to be? Sweet Dreams are made of everything around us that gets us to where we want to be.

“Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)”

Sweet dreams are made of this

Some of them want to abuse you

Some of them want to be abused

Female Focus Friday: Anaïs Nin Quote

Anais_Nin_Quote

Bus Stop Stories: Margaret and Martin-A Man’s Stomach. She wins? or He Loses?

“I don’t care, I’m not going to like it.” Martin’s arms were firmly crossed in combat formation.

“I know, dear.”

He lifted his hands, shoulders up around his ears. The first crack in his battle formation. “Then why are we going?”

“Because we must. If we don’t, you know what they will say.” Margaret’s head bobbed with every other word.

Martin’s hand slapped down on his gray slacks. He shook his head and stared at the sidewalk. The shaking stopped, and he looked at me. “I will trade with you.”

I held my hands up in defense.

He nodded. “I thought so.” He turned to Margaret. “See, I told you. I doubt I could pay for someone to take my place.” His shoulders sagged, his eyes focused on the reliable cracks in the pavement.

“No one you ask will know what you’re talking about. Besides, if we don’t go then we won’t be able to stop off at Strom’s Deli on the way back.” She leaned forward, as if she were looking for the bus.

The shoulders straightened. Martin’s eyes lifted from the sidewalk. “Well, I guess it would look bad if we were the only ones not there. It’s not like I have any problems with it, it’s just that it’s so far away. But if it will make you happy, then okay.”

Martin stood up as he heard the whine of the bus, that sound only a bus makes. Margaret stood and looked down at me. She winked and put her arm in through the crook of her husband’s.

He helped her up onto the first step of the bus and then followed. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. But so is his weakness.

How to come up with a book idea.

How to Come up with a Book Idea

You want to write a novel, but you don’t know how to come up with an idea. You’re sitting there at your keyboard or notebook and it just isn’t happening. You’ve doodled Mickey Mouse several times and you’ve created som new abstract work of art that might become the next wallpaper design for your computer, but yet, zero, zilch, zippo. Welcome to The Reality World, Novel Limbo.

Yes, that was a slight homage to The Real World, the real one from way back when. Yes I saw the very first one when it was in New York. You know, back when reality TV was not as obnoxious and pardon my saying this ‘silly’. If you have been around you know I can’t say the ‘st**id’ word because I’ve taught my son ‘B’ that it’s a bad word. You never want your kid to accidentally say something just because its part of is vocabulary. Okay parenting thing over with.  I still wonder about that date the girl went on and the guy told her she had wide hips that were good for breeding. What was that about?

But now back to the coming up with a book idea. And actually my digression up there is part of the problem, distractions. Or is it?

Why couldn’t I write a book about the ‘Bad words for Boys’? I just copyrighted that in case anyone is wondering. ChuCHING! I guess that’s how you spell that. Anyway, that’s an example of how to come up with an idea. Just listen to yourself and pay attention to your world. I could have edited the whole part out about my son ‘B’ but I didn’t. I am free flow writing the article and let it happen and there it is. I’m leaving it in as an example.

But let’s get down to other ways of how you actually can do it. I didn’t come up with the idea for ‘Bad word for Boys’ until I started writing this article and actually wrote those words of randomness.

Things to do:

  • Live life-Yes, you should experience life so you have something to draw from. This isn’t to say go out and sky dive. This means live. Exist. Function.
  • Write what you know about-I know it’s an old standard but it’s true. I know about what ‘Bad words for Boys’ are, so I can write about it. I could write about living with various health problems that are out of my control.
  • Sit down and just start writing-Just write whatever comes to mind, journal if you need to, just write and an idea will come. I encourage people to do writing prompts, either from a book of them or even those posted daily through websites. I seriously wrote an article about a need for Pants Vending Machines from a prompt. I never would have come up with it if there hadn’t decided to see what the prompt of the day was, and it was about Vending Machines that were needed. I chose pants.
  • Take a favorite story and twist it 180-Look at the takes on Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and The Wizard of Oz. These are direct twists, but you can even take a story and just twist it and make it its own.
  • Write down your thoughts-Keep a note pad handy or some recorder device to write down what comes to mind even at night. You won’t remember that great idea in the morning. I know I had a great poem idea the other night and I even remember that the lines were perfect, but I don’t remember what they are.

I’ll give you two examples of how ideas can happen. I recently interviewed two authors; Alysha Kaye of The Waiting Room, and Cyril Bussiere of The WorldMight. The books are completely different, worlds apart, but both involve love that is apart. Now let’s look how they came up with those ideas.

Here is Alysha Kaye from our recent interview:

Alysha Kaye Author The Waiting Room

“I had a dream about waiting for my boyfriend after death. I was in a strange room that looked a lot like an airport terminal. I wound up writing him a (very cheesy) poem about it and somehow, that became an entire novel! I couldn’t get it out of my head.”-Alysha Kaye

A dream that ended up as a poem that turned into a The Waiting Room, a published novel. You’ve had those dreams. You just need to write them down as quickly as possible when you wake up while they are fresh. Will those dreams be a book? Not always, but you will have them there to find out.

Now for Cyril Bussiere from a quote in our interview:

cyril.bussiere

“Then an idea came to me while driving a U-haul truck across Texas . . . about a princess trapped in a sleeping beast and her prince trying to free her; and he needs a word that has never been said to wake the beast up and rescue her.”-Cyril Bussiere

See, the monotony of driving a truck across Texas probably led him into this mindless state of wandering thoughts and there it was; his first novel, The WorldMight. It took time before it continued further but it did continue.

If you wanted to you could sit down and force yourself through a regime to develop an idea.

  • Take a topic or subject you like
  • Start researching it
  • Find some fact either known or preferably obscure, and start working with it
  • Then start either by the seat of the pants writing or outlining

I had an idea for a novel but had no idea how to work it. I started researching and things suddenly clicked. Now the book is so in depth that I haven’t finished it because of the complexity of what I want to do with it, but I could make it a lot simpler and just finish it. (By the way, using ‘just’ is a pet peeve of mine. I can’t stand it when I use it.)

But there are these little things you can find during research that will amaze you. If you are amazed then there will be others that are as well.

The real secret? I’ll tell you but you can’t tell anyone else. You have to keep working at it. Don’t give up on it. Writing is easy, writing well is difficult, creating a novel and publishing it is excruciating. That’s not trying to discourage you, that’s just telling you what it can be, it’s keeping it real . . . Real-no, not going to do it again.

So how do you come up with a novel idea? And it truly is a novel idea because you want to be a different to capture the attention of readers. You pay attention and listen to yourself and write. Write down every little dream you have, every thought you think is cool, random, or oddball, journal, just write.

Families Aren’t Born, They’re Made

Adoptive Parents. Foster Parents. Step Parents. Call those non birth nurturers of the young what you will, people have opinions about them, just like every person has a . . . well you know. I’m going to share mine . . . my opinion that is.

First I want to make some things perfectly clear. I KNOW that not all Foster Care parents are great. I KNOW that not all Foster Care situations work out properly. I KNOW there are statistics showing things one way or the other about the impact Foster Care has on a child’s life. THIS is not about THOSE Foster Care parents or situations. If that is the article you are looking for then you may want to move on.

THIS article is about the positive situations I have seen, and the POSITIVE OUTCOMES of GOOD Foster Care and Adoptive Parents.

You may ask, “Ronovan, what do you KNOW about THIS subject?” Have you ever heard the phrase “treat someone like a red-headed step-child?” Well that’s ME. I’m one, been one for about 40 years now. Yep, he’s my Dad, my mi papa. If I go any farther with that I’ll just end up in trouble because I think I might be mixing languages, call it Latinglish.

But does that make me an expert on the Foster and Adoptive Parent part, of course not. “Then, Ronovan, how can you speak about something you don’t know about?”

Why, I am so happy you asked me. It’s time to get serious, because I’m mad. Let  us discuss a thought of mine . . .

Families Aren’t Born, They’re Made

Let’s just get right down to it. For a time I was the head of a young group that took care of Foster Children while all the Foster Parents met for a required monthly meeting. It was a joy to do so and while doing so I learned a lot about the children. No two were alike. No two came from the same emotional mindset, not even siblings. With my teaching background, certification, being a parent of a young child and background checks I was of course a natural choice as leader, and I had teenagers to become human playground equipment. What more could an association ask for?

We were even invited to their Easter Egg Hunts and Picnic Get-a-ways. It was a great learning and growing experience for my young people as much as it was for me and those young children. We all learned about a different kind of love.

You would look at a sweet little face and the next thing you know they were freaking out because of some random thing, not very often, but sometimes. Or you look at a sweet face and they just want to be held, but you can’t because of the laws.

For me that was a heart breaker. I’m the cuddly guy, the ‘love the little kiddies’ guy, especially the little girls who you just want to be the Daddy of. They come at me with those pretty little eyes and sad faces and I just want to die. I want to hug them so bad and make them smile, even the ones that would come at me and headbutt me in the stomach because they liked me.

I’ve had experiences with two Foster Families. They have both adopted the children they were Foster Parents for. I know, that’s not a lot, but it’s something to comment on. Both are good ones too. I know there are some bad ones out there but there are also some good ones. Perhaps there needs to be a better and more in depth Foster Parent selection and screening progress. No . . . there DOES need to be one.

The children are growing up, well adjusted, as well as they can be as some recover from difficulties they had in the past. Some may have to go to therapy because of their previous family situation but they will be okay with the continued love and support they are receiving. This isn’t saying that all Foster/Adoption children have some type of issue, they don’t but some do.

The fact is parents that adopt a foster child know what they are getting into. I couldn’t do it. One family I am close to just blows my mind how they have taken children in as Foster Parents and they loved them so much they adopted them, and they have turned their worlds . . . and yes, for some it includes therapy.

These people don’t have to do it. But this family KNEW the issues before hand and still wanted these wonderful kids. Not just one, but all of the siblings so they could be together instead of separate Foster Homes. Personally, I would go crazy. One child is enough for me.

Did you know that some Foster and Adoptive Parents get attacked and harassed and even basically bad mouthed all over the place because they loved so much they did what their hearts told them to do? Do you know how many good people see this and then decide not to become Foster Parents because of it, and thus the system ends up with the REAL kind of people that some should be talking about?

Not every parent of a child that ends up in Foster Care wants their child to be there. I hope none of them do. But some end up in situations that require it. Some people might ask, “Well what if they find they are out of that situation someday?” Then if the child is in Foster Care there might be a chance of their return.

But if adopted, then no, there will be no return. I know not every situation is perfect and some Foster situations in some areas go wrong, but the ones I know of went right. I can’t think of those children having stayed in their previous family environment for one more and then another more chance while they slowly edged closer to being so emotionally scarred that they were permanently damaged.

People don’t think about that. At least I don’t guess they do. All they see is a broken up home. If I had just been with my biological father I would have begged to be in a Foster Home if I had known what it was back then. But I was lucky, I had a mother then a step-father. And yes, I made sure people knew what my father had done to me. I was 6 years old. Does that tell you how aware a young child can be of what is WRONG?

But some children won’t say anything. Just because the child doesn’t tell certain adults things doesn’t mean their lives are perfect . . . or maybe it’s that the certain adults just aren’t listening. There’s a thought, hmm?

Now for the people who are, pardon my saying it this way, real jerks about giving people a hard time for adopting kids who need to be adopted just because they disagree and THINK they know something and then start getting up in the adoptive parents’ business and start bad mouthing them to everyone they can think of . . . you need to buy a vowel, phone a friend, use a life line, basically get a clue and shut up about what you don’t know about. And I don’t care WHO you are.

I’ll repeat; not every Foster Parent or Adoptive Parent works out or is a good idea, but for the ones I personally know, they are incredible. Why do I say this? Because of this family the children are receiving a very good education and all of the various extra help they need either in their education or emotional areas. Their creative outlets are encouraged and their social activities are quality ones with good people. In fact the children have grown in so many ways that it is astounding.

There will be people that may comment on this in a negative or possibly hostile manner. I say this to you now; I’ll not engage in a debate or tolerate any badmouthing. Be civil and you may speak your piece. I read all comments on my articles. I don’t moderate them before they are allowed onto the site. But I will tell you this; start something and I delete your comment and ban you from commenting again. And you are not allowed to use any of the comments in this article in any manner at all. All rights are reserved by me. Don’t reblog it if you are going to use it in a manner of hate. Don’t ping back or link back to me for the same reason.

Remember, I said at the beginning this was a positive article about my own personal experiences with a family.

Personally I think those who love children enough to take them in, knowing they come from possibly bad situations, and still want them and even want them to the point of adopting them, is an amazing and admirable thing. I know when you are in the middle of it the situation is difficult to see from a different point of view, but there is another view. I don’t expect those involved to ever see both sides of it. Emotions run deep and it’s just a hard situation.

To all those good people who become Foster Parents and Adoptive Parents for the right reasons, I commend you. For those who do it to get money for taking care of the kids and don’t do jack for the kids, basically . . . you suck.

Give Me a Photo Please!

Photos of women kissing men, draped over men, attacking men in sexual ways, or basically giving to the man. It doesn’t matter what type of photo I want to find on the internet, I’m going to come across photos 95% of the time that are men centric.

I’m sick of it.

Screaming Man

 Give Me a Photo Please!

“Oh, Ronovan, you know you like looking at those pictures.”

Don’t confuse me with the men in your life and men don’t confuse me with the filth in your minds. And no, I know not all men enjoy it.

To be honest, give me a photo of a woman from the shoulders up with beautiful eyes and smile and I am a very happy man.

I wrote a poem where I simply wanted an image where it was the man passionately kissing the woman. I wanted clothing on, and it being a deep romantic kiss. Romance and passion apparently mean naked and the woman doing the kissing of anything and everything.

I also wrote a poem where the man was being sensual to the woman. How many photos out of thousands do you think I found where the man was doing the sensualizing?

And man doesn’t kiss the woman passionately or romantically. I had to settle for a picture that was almost close. Nothing was close.

This goes along with a lot of how I see society today, man centric. Okay, so here is my take on the way it should be. Now hold onto your hats, seats or what your Momma gave you, because some of you won’t like it.

I’m about to go Amen on you.

God looked around after Adam named the animals. Remember that? Not a companion could be found for old Adam, well young Adam I suppose. So what did God do? God created woman.

Now here is my take on that creation. In the Bible you have to read around and see a few things to realize how beautiful the Garden in Eden was. God then created something that man would find more amazing and more beautiful and more desirable than anything else on earth. Yep, woman.

Some of you that read my various writings know my opinions about women. Now maybe you can understand it on another level. I admire women. I admire their beauty and their intellect. I especially admire those women with strength. If they have all three, a truly rare combination, The Triple Threat, I become speechless and am in awe.

AwwwwAww

No, awe! Grrr, anyway, now it doesn’t matter if I put in coffee cup I am going to find an image pop up that’s of a woman with the coffee cup, hopefully, placed in a strategic location. Trust me men, I love the female form as much as, if not more than the next guy, but I don’t like exploitation. Even in the photos I use I darken them and crop them to attempt an avoidance of such an act on my part.

No wonder the young girls, teens, twenties on up of the females have an image problem. And no wonder the same aged on the male side are turning into pigs and dogs at a younger and younger age.

Rant over.
